Got a 1750 Tbi Ti three weeks ago, absolutely love it, black 2010, it's been well looked after with a full Alfa service history, it's also been re-mapped to 240bhp so goes very well, gearbox is fine, going to change the oil anyway. Going to treat it to a Ragazzon exhaust next year (only £1000 ouch), but it's worth it, it's gorgeous.
Great choice mate - the best version of the 159 I reckon, especially with a remap! Those will increase in value in a few years with that engine - you should have a modern classic on your hands!
Chris, respect to you, your channel and all things Alfa. I see you've done a few videos on the 159/Brera and this video is even titled "Is This The Best Alfa 159?", yet you've not driven the 159 3.2 Q4. Even the Brera you drove was a woosy 2.2lt! The 3.2 Q4 is a totally different car to the diesels and four cylinders you've tested thus far and I strongly believe that you should drive one of these to round out your the 159-ness of your personality.
The exact model and age of mine - absolutely LOVE it, drives beautifully, handles amazingly, looks fantastic when she's all polished up. Haven't remapped her yet - that's on the list. Have to agree that they can be expensive to run. Goes through a lot of diesel quite quickly as the turbo kicks in so often. I go through tyres like they are no tomorrow and as they are big wheels, that ain't cheap - but generally the maintenance isn't too bad. Considering you can pick these up pretty cheaply now, definitely worth a look in BUT make sure you get all the details and drive it before you commit, have heard many horror stories
Only 2 things would make it even better: the rosso competizione color (but this rosso alfa is also very nice) and it being a sportwagon. Those ti-wheels are so gorgeous!
Hi Chris I am in Australia my name is Sam. I currently own 3 x159 two of them are v6 auto and one 2.2l manual. I love the way the car looks fills, and drives especially the v6 q4.all I need to know is two things how many q4 v6 3.2l were made each year sedans, and station wagons in v6 form, and I believe they got 159 in q4 also in diesel 2.4. 5 cylinders.
Hi Sam, wow you must REALLY love the 159 to have three! I'm sorry not sure about the production stats but you can find most useful info in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_159 Enjoy your Alfas mate!
The Alfa Nut Me too! Happy with my Giulietta now though. Incidentally if you ever get the chance to drive one it would be lovely to get your take on the 1750tbi powered Brera or Spider. Pretty rare cars. Thanks again
I have 2, and recently got a manual 156 sportwagon. I'm selling my E36 to make space, but keeping my tank of an E39. The e39 trumps the 156 in build quality, but the 156 is a very pretty car with a more stylish interior.
Great video mate I have the TBI 159 in black and the engine is great only a GTV V6 I had in the past shades it for performance ,although for a 1.75 cc the TBI punches well above its weight and I enjoy the drive experience.
3 years ago I bought a 159 Sportwagon 2.4 JTDM 20V Q4 built in 2010 which I chose mainly for the four-wheel drive (I live in a hilly region where it snows in the winter). I am happy with the looks, the engine and the behaviour on the road. I would have loved a 1750 tbi Q4 which unfortunately Alfa Romeo did not make. The 1750 tbi engine is 150 kg lighter than the 2.4 JTDM so that, in spite of its slightly smaller power, the power to weight ratio of the car is better. So yes, I agree that the 1750 tbi is the best engine the 159 came with, except that it was offered only with front-wheel drive. Similarly, Alfa did not make a GT Q4, a Giulietta Q4, a Giulia SW and a Giulia Quadrifoglio Q4, all models I would have liked. I believe the 159 was discontinued too soon, shortly after at last it received an interesting petrol engine, which could have been exploited more also by pairing it with Q4.
..Great video Chris!👍👍...I think Alfa got it just right with the 159 1750 tbi..it's like the way 156 should have been..I got exactly that color on mine as well..with yellow leather seats and the Alfa logo in red!💃👌...since were in Corona times I'm going to repaint my brakecalipers and put on new Alfa stickers before the clear goes on...also looking to change my exahust system to a more sporty one from Novatech..who said it had to be boring to be socialdistancing right!?😊..anyway I'm babling on as usual...😁..keep up the good work and looking foreward to the next one...Mito QV perhaps?....
Hi John, thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it! Yes, this is a time for improving cars that's for sure. We have no excuse eh? This engine NEEDS a louder exhaust, so you are doing the right thing! I may do a Mito and a Giulietta Veloce / QV video soon if I can. Cheers!
Great video! We never got the 159 here in US. So glad the Giulia and Stelvio are being sold here now! And every once in a while I see (& hear!) a 4C on the road!
Hey Glenn, thanks a lot for watching, yes you guys have missed out on quite a few nice Alfas sadly. The US is a huge market and I don’t really undrstand why Alfa didn’t import some models. You’ll be able to legally import some of the ‘90’s cars now though I think? Isn’t your import law based on 25 year old cars?
@@TheAlfaNut Yes! I'm not sure why, but importing a 25+ year old car is much easier. My friend bought a 10 year old Isuzu Carry (cute little mini truck!) imported from Japan. Took months and hundreds of dollars in legal fees to finally get a title in our home state of Ohio! (Part of the problem was the original title was in Japanese!) Looking forward to seeing some older Alfas!
I ended up buying a mint 2009 2.2JTS Ti because i could not find a TBi Ti. Tried the 3.2 V6 but it was too heavy at the front under breaking and too expensive for fuel. Now i want one of these again and cant find one.
Again a very nice video Chris 👍 Shame that the 1750 didn’t stay for too long on the 159 and the Brera. I believe that they should have keep the production going on for at least a couple of years more especially after the 1750 engine introduction.
Hi Chris, thinks in Cyprus are quite good now. Only a handfull of new covid cases every day so we just got out of quarantine. This situation helpedmy Integrale project to move fast: Respray and upholstery is done. Now it’s only the assembly and the car will be ready. Stay Safe man and keep up the good work
Thanks for the Video. I drive the 159 TBI and never love a car so much like this, design by Gugiardo. Expect of the demagerable on board electronics the 159 is an absolutely reliable car. I have to point out that if you drive the 159 TBI you get specific emotions? Don't think so. The Alfa 159 is like a Diva: wonderfull with only a few of troubles...but you always still love the diva
Hi Moss - no, that shouldn't be "normal". Could be a number of things but most likely either a DPF issue, a worn turbo / actuator or possibly an air leak somewhere in the intake. Is it high mileage?
Great video. The Alfa Romeo 159 is beautiful from any angle inside or out. Loved the first shape of the 156 and this is a worthy replacement. No other car makes you feel like an Alfa Romeo.
I'd value your advice, I'd love another Alfa Romeo especially a Brera, are they troublesome or should I buy another 166 series 2_ I do very little driving and regret parting with my 166 for a BMW E65 730d ? Love the videos and advice. People love to knock Alfa Romeo and most haven't owned or driven one.
I’ve only driven one Brera - the 2.2 Prodrive version and was quite impressed with it but they are heavy and most other versions are not as good so I’m told. Depends what you need a car to do really. A 166 is probably quite a bit bigger inside too.
Nice videos mate, enjoying them! I see you dont have any videos on Alfa 166 and 75, i own both of them with V6 engines, maybe some reviews on them anytime soon?
Hi mate, thanks for watching! I like the 166 but haven't driven a 75 yet. I'd like to feature one as the last rear wheel drive Alfas until the Giulia appeared.
This is the best car Alfa made from a regular driver's perspective and it still did not sell very well, which says much about having a brilliant car does not mean it would be a success and vice versa. Also from a passionate driver's perspective this is a good car, brilliant car if we compare it with all the civil versions of much more successful BMW and Audi with both of those being watered down and not so good looking.
I have a 2.4 Ti and whilst it's a terrific car, it's so thirsty around town! If I get 20 mpg I'm doing well. In every other respect I think it's excellent, but the fuel consumption is a bit of a glaring issue. If I could get the same performance or better with good fuel economy from a Tbi then I'd buy it like a shot. Unfortunately 1750 Tbis are rarer than hen's teeth here in France. I've been looking for over a year and have only ever seen one come up in the small ads. And the guy was asking silly money for it :(
@@riczito I got a 159 tbi..had it for about two months now...also been looking forever for one...it's the best car I've had..👌..hope you find one in great condition!☺
The best engine for this Beauty is the 1750 TBI, petrol of course....but it came too late, 2009.... I drive since 2006 a SW 2.2 jts, not bad, 133.000km by now, no problems at all since then
Hi Ed, thanks for watching! I use a Gopro Hero 7 black at 2.7k and a 2nd cheapo actioncam for the in-car shots and for the other stuff a Canon 80D with a standard kit zoom lens mostly. I have a professional photography background which probably helps but most of the editing / post production is what takes the time. I am a bit self-critical and picky which slows down my workflow a lot! 😉
Hi Dave, thanks for watching. Ironically, the Alfa will probably be just as reliable as the BMW, PROVIDED that it has been serviced and looked after properly. The 159 is the most German-like Alfa yet! Happy choosing.
Things you wanna check on the tbi -plastic black cover of the timing belt not cracked (avarage fix if you decide to cut one bolt off) -oil in the spark plug wells (very hard fix) -wiring loom plastic covers cracked (easy fix tbh) -subframe corrosion -leaking camshaft guidence seals (see oil in spark plug wells)
In my corner of the Far East there are very few Alfas. Nonetheless, I often see this chap driving the other way in a blue 159. We salute each other every time we pass one another. I like Alfa people.
Hi Arisaga, thanks for watching and for commenting. I love hearing about other peoples lives - its very interesting. Alfas are popular in Malaysia and Japan I know but there are not many cars available. Where do you live? 🙂
@@TheAlfaNut Wasn’t expecting a reply, wow, thanks! I live in central Japan. Funny story: just this morning we had the first break in the weather for about 6 weeks (rainy season, don’t ask) so I took the Giulietta up the mountain to the dam for a little photo shoot. Arrive at location, camera in one hand, towel in the other to wipe off the bugs, and this new Honda civic comes across. The chap inside clearly knows what’s going on, huge grin and thumbs up from him. Good day out.
About 10 years ago I bought a 350 bhp JDM Subaru Legacy estate from an importer which still had the Fukushima dealer sticker on. Japanese imported cars are very popular in the UK because they are so well looked after. I hear that the “Shaken” test is very hard on car owners?
@@TheAlfaNut I had to look up “dogging”, and if it means what the search engine suggests, then, ahem, yes, it can and does happen - I was in an internet cafe once as my printer was down, and in the next booth... well... As for “shaken”, the equivalent is what I would know as the “warrant of fitness”, it tends to come around every three years, and yes, bare minimum for an import car you are looking at 1500 quid. Lots of people round here cycle their car purchases around “shaken” as dealers are required to renew them. All sounds like a big rort to me, but I love my Giulietta and she’s worth keeping. Cheers.
@@TheAlfaNut I await your proof. Many people say that the 1.75 tbi is more sporty, that although it has less hp, it weighs less and it is easier to remap. I would like to know how much the all-wheel drive influences. it would be a nice comparison
I used to have an Alfa MiTo, but it was written off after the spare key was stolen and the locksmith clowns blew up the CPU. I really miss this car 😢 Are you going to review one any time soon?
Great video. You are always so creative! I like very much the 159 Ti. I know this engine as I have it on my Giulietta Veloce. It's powerful and very pleasant, but not as sporty as it is in a 4C as the weight of the Giulietta or the 159 are not the same. It doesn't drink so much in my opinion (so much less than the 2.5 V6).
Hi Stanislas - thanks very much for watching! Glad you enjoyed it. I have a 156 2.5 V6 and yes - that is very thirsty!! I will make a video about the Giuietta Veloce soon I hope. I think this is a very under valued car and should be more appreciated.
Something about the rear of the 159 is too upright, and ruins the design, imo. The big issue is how the rear bumper connects to the rear quarter panels at the sides. The completely vertical line, it compromises an otherwise beautiful car. Picked up my 05 Alfa Romeo 156 sportwagon manual in red (tan/black interior) last night. It is so beautiful.
@@juvenchan105 I think between these two I would choose the 3.2 personally, as the 2.2 JTS is not as reliable as the V6. The 3.2 has 4WD and fuel consumption is high but its comfortable and looks cool!
Hi Alfa Nut. Just found your channel and its fantastic! One request from someone who sadly does not have the hips to drive a manual anymore, could you perhaps review an Automatic or to make it totally Alfa, a Selespeed! I would love to know your thoughts on the Selespeed in particular. Cheers and keep up the good work! Tom
Hi Tom, thanks very much for the kind words, I’m glad that you enjoy the channel. I’ve been a bit preoccupied during the lockdown but am working on a couple of new ideas as we speak! Regarding autos, I have never actually driven an auto or aSelespeed Alfa but I can say that the Selespeed has some advantages and disadvantages: it changes gear very quickly and is easy to use, it also blips the throttle automatically when you downshift which is a lovely touch. Downsides are reliability (naturally!) as it has a tendency to go haywire sometimes and parts are not that easy to find. Like most Alfa mechanicals though, if they are serviced properly and respected, they are perfectly reliable. If I was buying a Selespeed Alfa, I would probably go for a Japanese imported 147 GTA or similar, as they are more common over there and normally very well cared for and no salt on the roads means much less chance of rust! Cheers Chris 👍🏻
I’m thinking about one myself , as I’m getting older a gentlemen’s cruiser seems a better and better idea.... I’m torn between the sedan, and the SW, as I kayak the SW seems the better choice , it would have to be a TI in either version, and engine wise anything but the 2.2 JTS is “ acceptable “ but preference in order would be ... 1) 1750 2) 3.2 3)2.4 jtdm 4)1.9 or 2.0 jtdm I’d remap all of them of course..😏 and go Koni coilovers and eibach anti roll bars...👍
Hi Jon, I’m based near Exeter and Celtic Tuning (Newquay) have a good reputation and are growing in size. They have agreed for me to feature their services in an upcoming video but who knows when we’ll be able to do that?
Ok.. Beside the Guilia which is out of my price range at the moment.. The 159's are awesome. The 2.4 diesel is the best value for money.. I love them, would mind a 159/Brera 3.2 V6 as well..its one of the best looking estates in my opinion. I found the 2.4 diesel very reliable and a pleasure to own.. I'm on my second one.
Hi Gavin, yeah I think the 2.4 would definitely be my other choice of engine and having owned several remapped diesels in the past I know they are beasts! The reason why I liked the 1750 so much is because it feels very light compared to the diesels and the 3.2 and for me that makes it the best all-rounder.
Yep this is the one. It may be controversial but i still love my 156 selespeed , takes about 3 months of driving to master it but once you get your head round the box its fun as long as you don`t try and put it in auto. should never have been an option!
Hi mate, thanks for watching! I only drove the 1.9 which seemed underpowered but it turned out that the car may have had an ecu problem. The 2.0 jtdm certainly seems reliable and gutsy though from what I’m told. 👍🏻
Hi, as an Alfa Romeo 156 owner, I love your content, tho, I have a question, have you ever thinked about making a discord server about alfas? There is one, but, completely dead. You're the one who might be able to bring us, the alfisti together on that platform where we can share our impressions and advices
@@TheAlfaNut sorry for the late reply, worked all the week on my 156 lol. Well, Discord is not really a forum, is more like a platform similar to Skype which is very popular. There is already an Alfa Romeo server but, well, it's verry inactive I would say. You can learn more about discord here : discord.com/
I'm told that the least reliable seem to be the JTS engines, with the best being the 1750 tbi and the 1.9jtdm. I haven't any personal experience of this, so just what I have been told.
If any1 wants to trade I'm willing to one redesigned red alfa 147 3 door, for alfa 159 1.8 or maybe 2.4 with payment ... 159 or brera 1.8tbi are my dream cars, hopefully one day ill upgrade my beautiful 147 to any of these
I've got 255bhp and 400Nm in my 159 SW 1750tbi. But i want to tune it to 300bhp and 500Nm. But first i have to install a stage 3 clutch kit. And convert the Gen1 M32 to a Gen2 M32 and with a helical LSD. Then i'm gonna change the rear shaft seal. Fit a ko4 turbo. And full sportbrakes all round. But on the outside it looks like a 1.8mpi cause i debagded it. Ultimate sleeper
I am searxhing for a 159 for 2 month now. I first of all cant choose between the 2.4 diesel and the 3.2 petrol and then i dont know what price is „fair“ i rly want to get one of those i am tired of german cars. As stupid as it sounds i would like to feel some „magic“ while driving without spending 100k on a car
I would say the 159s looks have a nod at the ront to the SZ. I have had a 159 for 3 yrs now I bought it as a cheap runner as I needed a new car and didn't have the time to spend looking. Scarlet is now a. Family member and I have no intention in getting rid of her. I cannot think of a car that will give me the same fuzz not had that in a car since I had a 166
Hi Alfa Nut! I have an opportunity to buy an Alfa 159 with 1.9 JTS engine with 23 thousand kilometres...Yes, 23 :) Moreover, not buy but I can maybe give my Renault for it. Is this a good buy? I drive approx. 7-9000 km per year, some year even not that much. I would go with LPG conversion because I have installation ready in my 156 which is rusting away... Should I do it or not? It has decent trim in it, heated seats, little spoiler at the back, nothing fancy
As much as I love Alfas and I own a cobalt blue 939 Spider atm, Scarlett is a goddess and Emma is fab too. A 3 some in jelly is something you could experience and then die happy. You went a little bit too far ranking the car above the ladies mate ;) Only just tripped over your channel and looking forward to seeing more ;)
Beautiful! I've always had a weak spot for these since they came out. My dad used to own a 1.9 JTDm TI Q-Tronic between 2012-2018. He traded it in with 367.000km, but honestly it could've done another 367.000, very solid and reliable car it was. Tempted to get a 2.4 myself, but possible Euro 4 diesel bans in Europe holding me back 😒
I frequently have to travel in the bigger cities for work. They haven't gotten round it yet over here in the Netherlands....but I wouldn't be surprised if they would after the whole coronacrisis. Euro 1-3 diesels have already been banned, I had to sell my faithful Marea 2.4 JTD because of that 😔 still hurts to this day
Sold mine 159 Rosso 1750 TBi TI two months ago after four wonderful years...it was 2011. with alcantara seats and carbon interior...still miss her :( But, it is time for Giulia Veloce, maybe Veloce TI...thanks for the video ;)
Hi Max, thanks for watching and commenting. I have driven a Giulia Veloce and I thought it was amazingly good! I'd have one in a heartbeat as a daily driver.
I don't agree that 159 is the best Alfa. I owned the 33, 159, and 166 jtd. All of the Alfas were "Klapperkiste" (a noise box- noises from dashboard, glove compartment, seats and everywhere else). The best (also least noisy) was the 166 (actually owned 3 of them) - excellent interior, very good on mileage (6l/100km!!), fully loaded, and absolutely no repairs to 200 000km- change oil and filters regularly, pump diesel and that was it. Still sorry they don't make them any more.
I personally think the 159 has the best ever headlight design on any car.

Hi John, yes agreed - homework before buying is very important!
I have a 1.9 JTDm 2010. Total black. Lovely
Hi Gianluke - yes the 159 looks great in black. Gangster!
Even in pink with yellow dots, that car would always be a beauty
Only 2 things would make it even better: the rosso competizione color (but this rosso alfa is also very nice) and it being a sportwagon. Those ti-wheels are so gorgeous!
Good call!
Miss mine :( Thanks for reminding me how wonderful she was.
Thanks for watching Ben - sorry you don't have yours any more :0(
The Alfa Nut Me too! Happy with my Giulietta now though. Incidentally if you ever get the chance to drive one it would be lovely to get your take on the 1750tbi powered Brera or Spider. Pretty rare cars. Thanks again
I love my 159. I would be bored stiff in a German car.
Hi Mark, hope you are ok? Thanks for watching mate
@@TheAlfaNut I just can't get enough. New Alfa's or old Alfa's. New GTA abit out my price league tho.
@@MarkLsixtyseven Haha yeah me too - probably bout £110k for the GTAm model!
I have 2, and recently got a manual 156 sportwagon. I'm selling my E36 to make space, but keeping my tank of an E39. The e39 trumps the 156 in build quality, but the 156 is a very pretty car with a more stylish interior.
I always fancied an E39 M5. That was a genuinely great saloon.
Great video mate I have the TBI 159 in black and the engine is great only a GTV V6 I had in the past shades it for performance ,although for a 1.75 cc the TBI punches well above its weight and I enjoy the drive experience.
Thanks for watching Jason - a really under rated Alfa I feel. 👍🏻
Absolutely a beautiful auto. I own a 4c and adore it
Hi and thanks for watching, I loved the 4C too - drove a lovely yellow version last year.
Hi Guido, yes I know - Alfa have made some strange choices with their cars but we still love them! 😉
If this car was rear wheel drive it would genuinely be perfect
Hi Willem - we have the same surname! Are you in the UK?
..Great video Chris!👍👍...I think Alfa got it just right with the 159 1750 tbi..it's like the way 156 should have been..I got exactly that color on mine as well..with yellow leather seats and the Alfa logo in red!💃👌...since were in Corona times I'm going to repaint my brakecalipers and put on new Alfa stickers before the clear goes on...also looking to change my exahust system to a more sporty one from Novatech..who said it had to be boring to be socialdistancing right!?😊..anyway I'm babling on as usual...😁..keep up the good work and looking foreward to the next one...Mito QV perhaps?....
Such a stunning car. Inside and out. 🍀
Hi Lucy, thanks for watching. Agreed, it is lovely
I ended up buying a mint 2009 2.2JTS Ti because i could not find a TBi Ti. Tried the 3.2 V6 but it was too heavy at the front under breaking and too expensive for fuel. Now i want one of these again and cant find one.
Hi Vince, thanks for watching. Yeah not may of these around unfortunately. It's deffo my favourite.
Again a very nice video Chris 👍 Shame that the 1750 didn’t stay for too long on the 159 and the Brera. I believe that they should have keep the production going on for at least a couple of years more especially after the 1750 engine introduction.
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Yes, the 1750 is quite rare in the UK and to me, feels like it was the best version. Hope all is well in Cyprus?
Hi Chris, thinks in Cyprus are quite good now. Only a handfull of new covid cases every day so we just got out of quarantine. This situation helpedmy Integrale project to move fast: Respray and upholstery is done. Now it’s only the assembly and the car will be ready. Stay Safe man and keep up the good work
Alfisti who likes Marshall amplification....my brother from another mother😊 cheers from Poland mate!
Czesc Krzysztof! You have the same name as me too! I am a guitar player since the age of 7 🤘🏻. Keep rocking.
Hi Claudius, thanks for watching! If I was buying a 159, it would have to be the 1750 tbi. 🙂💪🏼🍀
Great video....like my 159 TBi with hybrid turbo free flow exhust....310 hp and 450 nm of torque....
Hi mate, thanks for watching. Now your car sounds like real fun!
Do you know what is limit for the internals( pistons, etc. ) of the TBi?
@@ionutpascalau I think somewhere + - 400hp and 460 -470 nm of torque...
My 159 2.4 JTD has a MASSIVE flatspot up to 1800 rpm. Is this common?
Hi Moss - no, that shouldn't be "normal". Could be a number of things but most likely either a DPF issue, a worn turbo / actuator or possibly an air leak somewhere in the intake. Is it high mileage?
"Giulietta" (116) was VERY beautiful... ;)
Hmmm.....🤔😄
Great video. The Alfa Romeo 159 is beautiful from any angle inside or out. Loved the first shape of the 156 and this is a worthy replacement. No other car makes you feel like an Alfa Romeo.
Hi Eugene - thanks for watching! Yes agreed - its hard to explain to people who havent owned an Alfa isn’t it?
I'd value your advice, I'd love another Alfa Romeo especially a Brera, are they troublesome or should I buy another 166 series 2_ I do very little driving and regret parting with my 166 for a BMW E65 730d ? Love the videos and advice. People love to knock Alfa Romeo and most haven't owned or driven one.
I’ve only driven one Brera - the 2.2 Prodrive version and was quite impressed with it but they are heavy and most other versions are not as good so I’m told. Depends what you need a car to do really. A 166 is probably quite a bit bigger inside too.
Always liked the seats in the 159 Ti. Much nicer than my 156 2.0TS
Hi Roberto, thanks for watching. Yes they are really comfy too!
Thanks for watching Bojan! 👍🏻

Would't the 3.2 TI be the best one? Or the 2.4 jtdm if one needs something more sensible?
I drive since 2006 a SW 2.2 jts, not bad, 133.000km by now, no problems at all since then
Not in my opinion - the 3.2 is too heavy and not quick despite its power.
@@michelecasano2537 I agree Michele - my 2nd choice would be the 2.4
Good day to you! Really loved your video! I was curious what camera you are using to film because the footage looks awesome!
1750 TBI and the 2.4 JTDm are the best choices for the 159
Hi mate, yes I agree completely - these are the only 2 engines I would choose. 👍🏻
Alfa Brera is the best hatchback, no hesitation with that!
Yes you might be right!
So torn. Found a 2012 159 TBI with only 38000kms. That or a 325i bmw. I want reliability. Will the Alfa give me that?
Hi Dave, thanks for watching. Ironically, the Alfa will probably be just as reliable as the BMW, PROVIDED that it has been serviced and looked after properly. The 159 is the most German-like Alfa yet! Happy choosing.
Things you wanna check on the tbi
-plastic black cover of the timing belt not cracked (avarage fix if you decide to cut one bolt off)
-oil in the spark plug wells (very hard fix)
-wiring loom plastic covers cracked (easy fix tbh)
-subframe corrosion
-leaking camshaft guidence seals (see oil in spark plug wells)
This is my dream-first car. I really hope I can buy one for one day. I don't need a fancy house or anything I just want this car :D
Good luck with buying one mate! 👍🏻
Lovely very attractive car you don’t see many of them know.
Hi Michael, I think that quite a few have been reduced to parts or scrapped now - typical Alfa value curve!
Haha, that could have been awkward! Is “dogging” popular in Japan? 😉
Cheers.
Excellent informative. I can’t afford a 4c so the 159 will be my next choice grazie ciao
Cheers James - good luck finding a good one!
It's definitely a beautiful car.

can alfa 159 sedan fold rear seats?
I’m not sure - perhaps it was an option?
Mine can. But some dont, do think it was an option so always check if you need it

I await your proof. Many people say that the 1.75 tbi is more sporty, that although it has less hp, it weighs less and it is easier to remap.

Hi Carlos, this is a long job and I wouldn't advise doing it yourself if you don't have experience. Ask on www.alfaowner.com for advice?
Without doubt, the 159 has held its age better than most mid-2000 vehicles. And the good news is that they are now going at bargain basement prices...
True Leonardo - they are a great buy at the moment. Covid-19 will push all car prices lower still....🙁
I used to have an Alfa MiTo, but it was written off after the spare key was stolen and the locksmith clowns blew up the CPU.
I really miss this car 😢
Are you going to review one any time soon?
Hi Christian, yes a Mito review is high on my list but at the speed the lockdown is being released it may take a while!
@@TheAlfaNut It's true that some Alfa Romeos are under valued.

Sorry to hear that - so no dealers in Malaysia at all?
@@TheAlfaNut no dealer at all. I am stucked with my old 146 ti
Would there be any chance that you could test a 2.4 JTDm ?
Hi Sean, yes I’d like to but I’ll have to find someone who isn’t scared of Coronavirus to lend me their car!
The 156 was pretty flawless from any angle if you ask me, although I am a bit biased! ;0)
May I ask how is the 3.2 engine? Im considering to buy a 159 in my local market, so far i have seen most sellers selling the 3.2 version
Hi Juven, the 3.2 is heavier and doesn't handle so well because of the weight. The engine is great and smooth but not that powerful.
Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately here in my country Alfa only sold 159 with either 2.2 petrol or 3.2, which would you recommend?
@@juvenchan105 2.2 but manual only ,selespeed transmission is faulty
@@juvenchan105 I think between these two I would choose the 3.2 personally, as the 2.2 JTS is not as reliable as the V6. The 3.2 has 4WD and fuel consumption is high but its comfortable and looks cool!
@@TheAlfaNut good to know, thanks for your advice
What about 1.9jtd, it seems I can only find 1.9jtd and most of them are +200.000 km, would you still recommend?
Hi there, if you get a 170 bhp 1.9 jtdm, then that is a good engine. Reliable too.
Spot on as usual
Hi Mark, many thanks for watching - glad you enjoyed it.
1) 1750
2) 3.2
3)2.4 jtdm
4)1.9 or 2.0 jtdm
I’d remap all of them of course..😏 and go Koni coilovers and eibach anti roll bars...👍
Those mods don’t sound very “Gentlemans cruiser” to me! 😉
Relatively new to the channel, where abouts are you based? Any word on Celtic Tuning, they're local so worth the punt for me I think.
Hi Jon, I’m based near Exeter and Celtic Tuning (Newquay) have a good reputation and are growing in size. They have agreed for me to feature their services in an upcoming video but who knows when we’ll be able to do that?

Very true! 👍🏻
Hi Carlo, thanks for watching!
You need to try a 2.4 ti remapped at 280 and see if you still rate 1.750 as the top dog 159 enjoy
Sounds like a good combination and the 156 is a lot lighter than the 159 too!
Will you do a review on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta(the new ones)?
Hi Denis, I’d love to feature a Giulietta - just need to get over this social distancing nonsense!
Yep this is the one. It may be controversial but i still love my 156 selespeed , takes about 3 months of driving to master it but once you get your head round the box its fun as long as you don`t try and put it in auto. should never have been an option!
Hi Alan, I love my 156 too but have never tried a Selespeed. I like the fact that it blips on the downshift though!
@@TheAlfaNut Awesome at high revs change down at about 4000 rpm just for the noises it makes. Addictive!

Nice video man! What do you think about the 2.0 jtdm (170hp) version? Cheers
Hi mate, thanks for watching! I only drove the 1.9 which seemed underpowered but it turned out that the car may have had an ecu problem. The 2.0 jtdm certainly seems reliable and gutsy though from what I’m told. 👍🏻

Hi Amir - If you can just swap then yes, it sounds like a great idea! Are you sure that the km’s are correct? 😉🤔
@@TheAlfaNut Well...never mind, the car was sold today, I was too late! :( It looked like s good catch...
😥
What about the V6 ?
Yes I would like to try the V6 too compare it also 👍🏻
As much as I love Alfas and I own a cobalt blue 939 Spider atm, Scarlett is a goddess and Emma is fab too. A 3 some in jelly is something you could experience and then die happy. You went a little bit too far ranking the car above the ladies mate ;) Only just tripped over your channel and looking forward to seeing more ;)
Hi Mike, thanks for watching mate! Yeah I know which I’d choose in the real world too! 🙂 Hope you get the chance to get your Spiders top down soon. 👍🏻
I want one as well
Beautiful! I've always had a weak spot for these since they came out. My dad used to own a 1.9 JTDm TI Q-Tronic between 2012-2018. He traded it in with 367.000km, but honestly it could've done another 367.000, very solid and reliable car it was. Tempted to get a 2.4 myself, but possible Euro 4 diesel bans in Europe holding me back 😒
Hi Louis, thanks for watching! Depends if you live in a big city or not I guess? London has a city centre ban on older diesels already 🙁
I frequently have to travel in the bigger cities for work. They haven't gotten round it yet over here in the Netherlands....but I wouldn't be surprised if they would after the whole coronacrisis. Euro 1-3 diesels have already been banned, I had to sell my faithful Marea 2.4 JTD because of that 😔 still hurts to this day
Tu peux avec 1.9 jtd 170 ch 2012 c une crit air 2 sinon autre solution vote Zemmour
Sold mine 159 Rosso 1750 TBi TI two months ago after four wonderful years...it was 2011. with alcantara seats and carbon interior...still miss her :(
But, it is time for Giulia Veloce, maybe Veloce TI...thanks for the video ;)
Hi Max, thanks for watching and commenting. I have driven a Giulia Veloce and I thought it was amazingly good! I'd have one in a heartbeat as a daily driver.
tidløs darling
I don't know what that means! :0)
Thanks for watching Mitja - the later Alfas were much better inside I agree. 👍🏻
I love Alfa-Romeo, ti amo Alfa-Romeo 😍😍😍.
Ciao Lorenzo! 👍🏻
@@TheAlfaNut Ciao, number one 😉💪.
Alfa Romeo 159/Brera Only 1.75 TBI or 2.4 JTDm other engines for this models are just or Opel/GM or to low power for that weight.
If only the 1750tbi had arrived earlier...The petrol engines at the launch were simply not worthy for Alfa Romeo. Especially the 1,8 GM
Hi Dimitar, thanks for watching. Yes I thought the 1750 is a great engine and like you say, a shame it arrived late.
Fellow Alfa nut just subscribed. Bow going looking for GTA videos if you have any :)
Hi again, got a couple of GTA vids so far - the father & sone 147 and 156 and then a feature on the 147 in a later vid. 👍🏻
I've owned a 159 for 10 years and I'm worried about the day she might have to go... because anything I can move on to will feel like a downgrade.
Hi Nic, thanks for watching! So when you do eventually change, what do you think you would replace her with? 🤔
@@TheAlfaNut That is the big question, the only other car I'm somewhat interested in currently in production is te Giulia.
Yes, agreed. I was planning to change my daily to a Giulia Veloce or a used Quadrifoglio just before the lockdown! 😩
