  • Let's take a look at the Eufy Video Doorbell and if it’s worthy of consideration. Of all of the video doorbells available today, how does subscription-free sound for a doorbell security camera? Much like the EufyCam E, Eufy is really on to something with their security smart home devices. How does it hold up against the Ring Video Doorbell 2, Nest Doorbell, and others?

    I found a cost effective way to get a 24V line for my smart doorbell (a Ring) was to just go and buy the cheapest doorbell at Home Depot. That includes the 24V power supply you need, which is hard to get on its own.

    Have watched several reviews for this device, but this one put it over the top. Just ordered one. This video does a great job of explaining integration (or lack thereof) of this device. I am keeping all my data local. Just ordered one of the adapters shown. I'll have the doorbell today, but without the adapter it would be staring mostly at the porch ceiling - one more reason I hesitated buying a video doorbell. Hoping the adapter arrives soon.
    I'll be buying some security cameras and maybe even putting a security system into place as I did w my other homes. This channel looks like a good source for information. Have now subscribed.

There is one small bug in either the firmware or app (not sure which)...the timestamp live video feed overlay, shown in the upper right-hand corner is six hours out or sync with real-time, when using the IOS app. Eufy has confirmed the bug a says a IOS app update will be released soon.

      im a home automation installer, i always have issues when intalling near highly condensed apartments or consumer mesh networks due to high 2.4 ghz pollution. I am always recommending my sales team to do a 2.4 ghz wifi scan before selling the doorbell. You can download the app on google play store "wifi analyzer" (good luck iphone users) to scan your 2.4 pollution. Eero, tp link have been highly interfering with the doorbells, creating high latency or errors viewing the cameras. My solution is utilizing their router wifi to set to a specific channel, one that is less polluted, and keeping the doorbell of the mesh networks or buying managed access points/mesh wich can turn off unnecessary 2.4 broadcasting. Many consumer mesh dont have the option to turn off 2.4 or manually change channels.

Bought my Nest from CEX for £140 delivered. Opened box, but never used. Very happy with it. My three biggest complaints with the Eufy Video doorbell are it's inability to ring my internal door chime (my Nest Hello can), lack of ability to tie into the Eufy HomeBase if you have one, and lack of RTSP support to just stream to a NAS or network share, this would allow for the possibility of having 24/7 recording like I have on my Nest Hello. I still haven't filled the 4gb of internal storage after the month of having it installed, but it would still be nice. Hopefully most of those features can be added in a future firmware.

    I don't know why everyone gives these great reviews. There's tons of
    missed notifications, sometimes up to a minute lag, lots of false
    positives, you can only have one super tiny ignore zone, no homekit or IFTTT, no RTSP and because
    they 100% rely on the cloud for authentication so when their servers
    down or they go out of business you're SOL. I'm returning mine.

    Hello Matt. I started looking at Eufy video doorbell because of local storage and high resolution. The modest price was a nice plus. Your discussion of response times and reliability are also key determinants. Had it performed as you describe the Ring i would not purchase it and would stick with my current traditional doorbell. The absent integration features are of no importance to me at this time. Your review was excellent and was just what i needed to convince me to move to purchase. Thanks.

    First; I sincerely appreciate this info. I received my battery Eufy yesterday. The box includes only a quick start guide and it is a very nice quick start guide but there is no more comprehensive manual of instructions in the box. I will be calling Eufy tomorrow for help. But, there is no guide as to accessing the area of the bell location for adjusting the area that the camera should sense a visitor. Then I found the sensitivity adjustment with the sliding adjuster and it wouldn't respond to my trying to adjust via my iPhone screen and the same issue with the volume adjustment but overall I am disappointed with the lack of detailed instructions for every element of the system. It is not intuitive in the least. But, I trust that I will be able to get the info as to how to do everything that I want.
    I am confident that I have purchased the best video doorbell available with thanks to Matt Ferrell.

    excellent video. I was a very early adopter of the Ring products, growing my "Ring of Security" to include a doorbell Pro, multiple Spotlight Cams, and multiple Stick up Cams, including their home security package for doors, windows, and motion. I'm at the point of being unimpressed and frankly, a little drained with this system. I've had more than enough issues and spent hundreds of dollars to "fix my slow WiFi" to appease the Ring support engineers I've worked with, that I've been looking elsewhere.
    (And don't get me started on SkyNet----I mean Amazon buying them)
    I enjoyed your Eufy E review, and that led me to look at them more seriously, after seeing this video, and knowing my integrations are 0, I will be purchasing this door bell and the Eufy AI cams.

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 года назад

      I haven’t had wifi issues with Ring, but they’ve been making some concerning choices since the Amazon purchase. I also have a Ring Spotlight cam that I’m looking at replacements for now too. If you dive into Eufy gear, let me know how it goes. The EufyCam (not the EufyCam E I reviewed) have AI detection on them, so if that’s a feature you’re looking at make sure it’s the non-E hub kit you get. You can mix and match the cameras on the hub, but the AI smarts are specific to the hub ... not the camera. I am super impressed with the Eufy Doorbell.

    Hi Matt... long time viewer, first time commenter. Love the channel and this video! I have a Ring Pro and it’s just OK, curious how this doorbell allows for remote app viewing of footage since you are storing locally. Does the doorbell spin up a web server? Sorry if I missed that in the video. Thanks again!

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 года назад +3

      Thanks for watching, Ryan! I probably should have covered some details on how it works in the video. The videos are stored and encrypted locally, but you can stream them remotely from the app. Even though your videos aren’t stored in the cloud, Eufy’s app is providing cloud access to the doorbell directly (essentially your doorbell is acting like a mini server when you watch a stream and Eufy is pointing the app to the right IP for that stream). What I find interesting is that if you log into the Eufy Security website, which is where you’d go if you subscribed to their cloud service, you can’t view anything there. Their servers don’t have the encryption keys to your recordings, so there’s no way to watch it. Those keys only exists between your app and doorbell. It’s pretty slick.

    I am presently using the Arlo Doorbell with an Arlo base and 2 camera system. I love the integration and I backup to a USB drive; I have found there too be a bit of a lag for notifications and push to talk. Like the Eufy there isn't presently any support for platform integration. I do use IFTT and virtual switches to trigger home automation integration. I love the local hosting and quality you have shown with the Eufy camera's and doorbell. I switched from Wink to Hubitat in February and haven't looked back. I will definitely move to the Eufy platform when it adds support for Hubitat. Until I am holding off expanding my Arlo system which at this point doesn't seem to be looking to provide open integration.

      @UndecidedMF  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching and sharing your experience with Arlo. It's a good system, but I've really gotten on the privacy/security/local bandwagon. So I'm looking at all of this stuff through that lens now. If/when Eufy opens up integrations a bit more, it's really going to make it extremely compelling to a lot of people. How's Hubitat been working for you? I've found it to be rock solid so far.

    Great review and promising product, the only downside for me is the lack of integrations and slowness with the Google hub. I have 25+ smart home devices and a few different hubs, for me some sort of integration is a must

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 года назад

      Yeah, that’s a big knock against it. An update just came out for it a couple of days ago that’s made the notifications even snappier. Not sure if it’s related but the response time of the hub it faster now too. Still not instant, but it’s improved. I’ve also noticed that it’s slowest when the Google Hub is trying to wake up the doorbell when nothing is happening outside. Once a connection has been made, it’s faster. Seems like something they can continue to refine and improve with software updates.
      And really hoping they bring third party integrations out soon. Homekit and IFTTT may be in the cards.

    This Eufy doorbell would've been a great option for us since our original Ring doorbell would miss a lot of motion and also pick up motion we didn't want, and I like the sound of subscription free with local data. Our wireless router was getting maxed out in the 2.4GHz band, so our Ring was also starting to have problems connecting. Unfortunately, the Eufy doorbell isn't dual band compatible so we opted for the Ring Pro doorbell which is, and was on sale during the pre-Amazon Prime Day for only $169 including a free Echo Dot (which we haven't set up). We connected the Ring Pro using the 5GHz band and so far, it is so much better than the original Ring. Better video quality, no missed motions, and no unwanted motion videos. It also captures a few seconds of video prior to the motion event. We did have to buy a new, higher voltage transformer to satisfy the Ring Pro's thirst for power and pay for the basic subscription service, but I think it's worth it.

    • @UndecidedMF
      @UndecidedMF  4 года назад +1

      Only having 2.4 GHz wifi is kind of a limitation for Eufy. It’s more than fast enough and has better range than 5 GHz, but your scenario is a great example why it’s a limitation. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Ring Pro! Sounds like it fit the bill.

    This meets almost everything I would want in a doorbell. The only lacking features would be local storage to a nas or security program and POE. I prefer hardwired Ethernet over WiFi for many reasons and POE to power would also be a plus. Yes many will not want or need this but I think it would be a nice option or add on that can clip on the back. I would easily pay double if I could get these features in a doorbell cam

    • @UndecidedMF

    I'm from Cape Town, South Africa so virtually most of these video doorbells available today, I'd have to order from Amazon and ship via a courier forwarding service. Due to this hassle, I really need to make the right decision when going for the right video doorbell for me. Ring 2 is at the top of my list and the Eufy was so close to being that one when I realised that there is no Home Assistant support and the fact that the video takes so long to appear on the Google Home Hub as per your video. Would be great to know how long it takes on the Amazon Echo Show / Show 5. As I dive deeper into these video doorbells, there just doesn't seem to be the one that ticks all the boxes. The Eufy's camera recording / motion detection is outstanding based on your review and it is kinda disappointing that on the Ring side, they chose to use infrared instead of the camera for motion detection. You see, Elon is right! :) Thankfully, I'm not in a rush to buy a video doorbell as yet so I have time to really keep my finger on the pulse on all the options over time until the day I pull the trigger to get one. I am a home automation installer, I always have issues when installing near highly condensed apartments or near consumer mesh networks due to high 2.4 ghz pollution. I am always recommending my sales team to do a 2.4 ghz wifi scan before selling the doorbell. You can download the app on google play store "wifi analyzer" (good luck iphone users) to scan your 2.4 pollution, eero, tp link, xfinity pods, google mesh, have high interference with the doorbells, creating high latency or errors viewing the cameras. My solution is disconnecting from mesh and connect to the customer's router wifi to set to a specific channel, one that is less polluted. I also recommend buying managed access points/mesh wich can turn off unnecessary 2.4 broadcasting.
