This is a necessity for us caregivers who must monitor our parents who suffer from Alzheimer disease, automatic light control and an alarm for when one may stray from their bed at night.

We’ve only had the cameras up and running for a short time. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxOXxsTZ3ptV_Pk0fFl8bNZvVqeoqBQFwe So far we love them! I got the outdoor mounting kit for them and they were easy to install. Once you download the app, it walks you through the very easy set up. The clarity, and range is awesome. I am thinking seriously about adding another camera or two to my 3 camera system. The price is lower than a lot of comparable systems.

My idea for this product would be to keep it on my fridge (it gets left open more than I'm willing to admit) and the motion sensor would work great tucked into the corner of my front porch so I know when the mail comes or a packed has arrived. Keep up the great content!

    • @jacked_geek

don't most fridge already have loud beeping sound if left open for more than a certain period? A doorbell with like ring or nest hello might be more appropriate for your porch so you can also see if it is truly the mail man. IMO. great use case though

I would use this on the pool gate to know when my daughter is going swimming unsupervised. Could also use on the spa cover. I like the garage door and mailbox ideas as well. I placed one in my doorbell chime. The electromagnet in the doorbell chime triggers the magnetic reed switch in the sensor making a cheap limited feature smart doorbell. I then used that event to trigger the front door camera to record.
I took my second one and opened it up and removed the magnetic reed switch and replaced it with 2 wires. I then placed it under my kitchen sink and taped the wires to the bottom. If the sink leaks the water completes the circuit and notifies me of a leak.

Just watched your video for the very first time. If I had one, I would install a sensor on the garage door to notify me when it open/closed or to verify that I closed after driving away from home. Another idea, it would be in my backyard so that it would turn the lights on if an animal or person walked to my backyard. Finally I would install one on my storage shed. I only keep yardwork tools but they are valuable to me. Good luck to everyone and thank you for making this videos.

Use motion detection to notice when you walk into an office/study and use it to get a smart assistant to read your reminders or tasks. Alternatively, you could place it my a letterbox to get notified when post falls through. A contact sensor could be used to notify when a car door is opened to stop a robberies

For the snack cabinet sensor, I'd put it on the inside for aesthetics; although, you probably put it on the outside for the purpose of this video.
With the contact sensor in an office or more formal area, I'd put it on a bathroom door - if the door is open, then the bathroom is available. If closed, do a second check with the motion sensor to check the last movement sensed. Bonus: use IFTTT to turn on or off a light bulb or sign in the common area where people are sitting to let them know at a quick glance if a bathroom is available.

I have some IFTTT compatible light switches; they essentially replace normal light switches and but let me control those lights with my google assistant.
Whoever design my home put the bathroom light switch in a really inconvenient spot and I can never seem to find it when its dark and I am drowsy at night.
I want the bathroom lights to turn on whenever I open the bathroom door.
I'd love to get a set of contact sensors so I can use these because I missed the pre-order beta :/

My home is very automated. I have a smart things hub. I have a konnected security system that works with the smart things hub. All five exterior doors have hardwired sensors that go to the security system. The windows have hardwired sensors. We have nest thermostats and nest smoke detectors. When my wife and I leave our house the security system is automatically armed. When we get within a two block radius the alarm system is disarmed. We have a light in the garage that shines when the alarm is armed so that if we arrive and for some reason the alarm system did not get disarmed, And we can see that the alarm is still set. But in my bathrooms I use this: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0076KNP4K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is an occupancy switch. When I enter the bathroom the lights turn on and when I exit the lights turn off. And I use vacancy switches in the kitchen. If there is no movement in the kitchen for five minutes then the lights turn off. And in the kitchen over the sink I use an occupancy switch. When we walk in the kitchen at night the light over the sink turns on and when we leave it turns off. The hardwired switches for occupancy and vacancy just work and work instantly. I think they would serve you better in the bathroom with the light switch that is difficult to access. And I might use one that has a dimmer instead of just a simple switch. When I walk in the bathroom in the middle of the night I can press the dimmer down and have a more subdued light. Good luck.

Having sensors like this will help with whole home automation. Due to the distance to mailbox, a “door” sensor would be great and be able to link to the outside camera to make sure no thievery is taking place. Motion sensors would be great to make sure dogs going in/out the dog door are not strangers! That would be interesting with the colder season. Either way, these sensors look to hit the mark on making outstanding ways to increase quality of life. - side note: would be nice if Wyze makes other home sensors like the competitors. Such as a water sensor, A fire/co2 sensor, glass break detection sensor.

One of these is going on the garage door for an open/close warning at night. I think another will go on the basement door. If the kids leave that open the cats get in there and make a mess.
I'm thinking this could also be used for a simple basement sump alarm. Magnet on the float, sensor at the top of the sump. When it's closed the pump isn't working and the basement is going to flood.
For the motion sensor I might couple one with a Pan cam that watches the yard so that it can turn and look behind it if something moves where it isn't looking.

Great Video. and perfect for people who want to start playing around with automation. however i do have to add that for a true feeling of automation one must start with a hub that can handle all different types of sensors and one that will bring them all together for a unified solution. I started my home with 1 or 2 zwave switches and a smartthings hub and now i think i have a little over 60 or 70 smart devices all linked and working in harmony. sorry for long post. I just think that most people dont know if you get 1 brand and its brand specific then your stuck with that brand. I like to be able to use different smart devices from different vendors for different tasks, Well thats what i do for my clients and friends. just my 2 cents :) - keep up the great videos

Easy to setup but after running for a few days the camera motion detector stop working and bridge disconnects from most motion sensors and door contacts. Since our back door has no door bell at this time and I have not only a light set up outside, it would be nice to set up the sensor so I can receive an alert that some one is at our back door and the light to turn on for me when I come home at night, as we seldom use the front door to come in. I also have the only phone that can access the lights when outside so this would be nice for my wife and mother in law to be able to come home in the evening and allow them to be able to just have the light come on. Not to mention that it would be nice to know the doors are opened from my phone when we are away from the house.

Don't have to clog up WIFI space for something so simple either

I would use them to watch the workers remodeling my kitchen... My contractor said he stopped by every day but I noticed from my garage camera but that's not the case. So it would be nice to see from the front door view into the kitchen.

This would be perfect to install on a garage door. You would never have to worry wondering if you closed the garage or not.

you can download the free garage door opener app from the manufacturer of opener, as long as your opener is able to sync to wifi. a MUCH more useful app than just being told, OR you can buy a remote garage door button which displays if your doors are open or closed. I mention it more in another review above.
and its cheaper than the WYZE stuff and more useful

@@mikejohnson1228 I'll look into this. My garage opener is not WiFi compatible so a third party solution is definitely needed.

Using your IFTTT time tutorial i would have a door sensor activate different activities at different times of the day, the morning as i exit my room i will make it turn off the lights and heater from my automated wake up routine (sunrise on Yeelight bulbs, fitbit wrist vibration, then finished off with a morning breakdown from google), at night time i would have it activate the stair lighting to allow easy access though the house without needing to find a lightswitch and in the evening set it up to prepare my room for bed.

i use my sense with the bulb, so if someone walks up to the motion it turns on the light and records :)!, long term tho. the bridge gets funky and needs to be unplugged from time to time. when its really cold its sorta affected.

Hey, brother; great video. Unrelated question... where did you get those two lamps, in the background, for your colored LED bulbs? In particular, the short upward-facing one. Thanks in advance.

I would love to get one of those starter kits!!! The options are and less I can put one on my bedroom door to remember if I closed it or not and I could put them on my cookie jar in my room to see if my brother took any lol and I might be able to rake one up to a mouse trap so I know when it goes off because sometimes it’ll go off when I’m not home and I won’t figure it out for like a week because I don’t check them every day and it starts to make my room stink so it would be really cool to rig it up to a mouse trap!!

I think I would love to put a contact sensor on the doggy door so we know when they come and go. I would also use the motion sensor to keep an eye on my carport, as we have had theft issues lately.

i just wish there was a way to use a sensor without a hub in between. I was using philips hue sensor and light combo for the bathroom. for those wonderful midnight old man bathroom breaks. but i noticed it was not always picking me up when i had the shower water running. when the light went off. it was either time to get out, or finish in the dark

I will set up one of the contact sensor to monitor the garage door. But I still not quite sure if there is a wyze cam pointing at the garage door already, why do you need an additional sensor to monitor the garage door? Your backdoor scenario makes more sense since the sensor detects if the door is left open just with enough gap. I can't find Wyze selling this kit any more. Why can people buy these now? Thanks.

A camera will not send you an alert letting you know the garage door has been left open, the sensors will.

I would use it to make sure I get out of the house on time by having my google home send me a message to remind me its time to leave. also to remind me when I left the garage door open and use a DIY sonoff to close the garage if the door sensor is open and there is no motion in the garage.

is there such thing as a smart alarm siren that can be triggered when you leave the house? i want the Wyze setup, but the Ring offering includes an alarm to scare off the burglar.
I would figure out how to make an IFTT that makes the Google Home speakers play a siren MP3 when one of these sensors I triggered when I'm "away" from the house.

Have a sensor on the garage door and if you and your partner are showing as away (eg Life360 app) and the door is still open, then close door and send confirmation SMS that door is down.
