    Hello all, and thank you so much for watching this week's special video.
    We at PlanesWeekly are very fascinated about KLM and indeed their 747's. We've had the awesome opportunity to be able to fly on the KLM 747 a couple of times this year. Today you see something even more special as today, Friday October 28th, will be the last day the iconic KLM 747 is operating to and from St. Maarten. We were so lucky to be able to not just see the 747 there, but also fly back on it back to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
    In this video you see the beautiful "Jumbo Jet" pushback, taxi and takeoff followed by a sharp right turn to clear the mountain at the very end of the runway.
    This was shot on October 16th making it the 6th last KLM Boeing 747 takeoff from St. Maarten. We believe that this is valuable footage to share as this is not likely to happen again anytime soon.
    We would like to thank KLM and the nice crew they always have on board for some truly amazing experiences with them on their 747 and any other aircraft.
    We really hope that you enjoy the video, and as always stay tuned for a new video coming up every week!

      the miracle: the plane is only a quarter or half tanked with kerosine because the runway is too short for an fully tanked 747 or similiar. so the planes have to land in aruba or curacao where the runway is longer to fill up the tank full and then it goes straight to europe or US or somewhere. i read it in wikipedia. so now it make sense why the 747 is so fast and rotate so fast 😂

    You know, I'd like to see a (tiny but UHD) wide-angle camera mounted to the wing tips; one on each side. It'd be immense to see the main body of the aircraft during take-offs, landings etc. :)

      @@tazdevl2000 Offe course. Lightly loaded, F20 flaps for shorter ground run and liftoff speed, actually not a fast takeoff as a fully loaded if we talk Vspeed as the lighter you get the lower the V figures are. SO we could argue that a fully loaded take-off is "faster" than a lighthly loaded one. If we talk time time spend rolling then the correct expression is quick vs lenghty.

    I'll never understand people who close their window shade right after boarding... Like, you have these monstrous engines that are about to blast you - and the giant metal tube you're sitting in - 30.000 feet into the sky at 900 km/h. How exciting is your life, that this miracle of engineering isn't worth your attention? (I know it's probably me, the avgeek, who is the weird one, but still it just blows my mind)

    I was British Airways Concorde Captain for ten years and I must say this KLM B747 take off and immediate turn was extremely ‘tame’ compared with Concorde’s take offs from runway 31L at New York’s JFK. TAKE OFF AND IMMEDIATE 25 DEGREE BANK LEFTHAND TURN OVER JAMAICA BAY. Now that was worth seeing especially if a train was crossing the bridge in the bay!
    What a pity you won’t see that again

    • @lesposen
      @lesposen 5 лет назад

      Keith Barton hey, Keith, there’s a wonderful 2 hour flight deck view of the manoeuvre you mentioned plus the crossing back to LHR. Crew explain in detail path, noise abatement procedures, etc., in laymen terms . I recall leaving JFK for LAX on a UA 777 years ago and watching Concord takeoff on 31L. Ah, those were the days. It was an Aussie BA CEO who pulled the plug.

  • @joecarpenter4522
    @joecarpenter4522 7 лет назад +1

    Rotation speed is calculated based on airplane weight and weather conditions. In other words, the pilot flying doesn't randomly select when they will rotate. So there's no such thing as an early or late rotation unless there's pilot error. The "immediate" turn is par for the course when launching out of Julianna. There's some high terrain fairly close to the departure end that it would be wise to avoid. But that wing wasn't even close to hitting the ground.

    Simply breathtaking aircraft and so is the Ariel view of the sea ..747 is my personal favourite since this machine has been in service since 1960’s nd still rule the skies with the latest model having fresh engines for greater fuel economy nd greener emissions whereas on the other hand the awesome peice of engineering Airbus A380 is already looking at the end of life of production though is a mammoth in the sky ..emirates giving a recent jolt in cancelling the order of A380’s and in turn taking up A350’s

    Must be an optical illusion but that one engine looks like it is pointed towards the ground at 1:24. Do they announce that the plane will make an immediate right turn? I am sure it would make some people nervous if they did not know in advance.

    • @PlanesWeekly
      @PlanesWeekly  7 лет назад +1

      Steve Ward That is an optical illusion probably caused by the wide angle of the camera lens.
      The captain did tell the passengers about the special flight path when departing St. Maarten, but we were on the plane for that very reason. However, they usually gain more altitude before turning, so the immediate right turn took us by surprise.

      Sad, but true mate, airlines are now working with the wide body family, as the 767-787 and i think the 777 with boeing, and with aribus the A330 and probably the A340-200/300

      And maybe the (beautiful) A350 soon in St Marten too. A Qatar airlines A350 just flew over my head today. :-)

    Is there a reduced passenger limit on the 747's at St. Maarten? Such quick takeoff's.

    That 747 had to be almost empty to get in the air so quickly! Wish I was on that flight! Very cool.

    Every time I see a Dutch K.L.M. 747 I cannot help think about March 27, 1977. Tenerife, Canary Islands. When the most experienced pilot in the K.L.M. service. Capitan Jacob Van Zanten flight 4805, took off without A.T.C clearence in the fog. Because, of the stupid K.L.M. regulations required of flight crews, he slammed into a Pan Am 747 on the ground killing 583 people. Including all of his 270 passengers. Worst airliner disaster in history.

    I know that it is not the same aircraft. "City of Lima" was sometimes "City of Johannesburg". Notwithstanding that, I enjoyed it very much and great footage!

    Early rotation - No typical rotation for TNCM Take off. But otherwise cool video but I hate missleading video titles ;)

      @spiritspride46 7 лет назад +7

      Quit getting all triggered my friendly little keyboard warrior. Yes, this was early rotation ~ the reason why the plane jolted on takeoff. It was intentional that the pilot wanted to get off quit and turn. (And the title isn't considered misleading just because it doesn't fit your personal criteria of what you expected.)

      Lol what a bullshit talk. When it is planned it is not early rotation. It was classic take off for 747 at TNCM nothing more. Although it is beautiful take off like every take off from TNCM it was not early rotation. It is classic SID which has to be followed by every civil airliner. That it's what it is. So don't behave like this was something rare. Back to you little keyboard warrior.

    • @spiritspride46
      @spiritspride46 7 лет назад +1

      There's many other 747s that were closer to the ridge because their takeoff wasy *PLANNED* to be different. Planned or not has nothing to do with early and late, considering it is based off of what the other takeoffs for the same aircraft have been like. You know you're pathetic, unoriginal, and wrong when you try to use "Keyboard warrior" against me lol like considering I said it first, all you're proving to me is your insolence. I'm not surprised you didn't bring up the part where I talked about your "misleading" bullshit. So yeah, just reply to this comment if you agree that you're wrong.
