Hideki Naganuma may be known nowadays for his goofy Twitter persona, but people forget he's a god-tier musician. And he hasn't lost his touch - the work he did for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk was seriously great.
Legit I wish those other two songs he did for the game were on Spotify, or at the very least Bandcamp. Jack Da Funk is good but Good Enuf and Da People are both incredible.
@@SirLightsOut99 I misread the comment and thought the comment above was talking about the OSTs for Sonic Rush and Jet Set Radio, which were on spotify but were later removed, my bad
This game got one of the most openly corrupt and insane police forces in fiction. They pull out attack helicopters and Tanks to stop teenagers with spray cans on rollerblades. It's Lunacy.
If you love the Jet Set Radio soundtrack, you will love Future and Bomb rush Cyberfunk!!! Future is literally an evolved and more chill version of the Jet soundtrack in my opinion!
Some of the samples used by Naganuma come from very obscure sources. The main female vocal sample of 'Let Mom Sleep' is from an episode of 'Hancock's Half Hour', a black & white Britsh sitcom from the 1950s!
Hancock's Half Hour is not obscure within the UK, most people above a certain age know what it is. It was a radio drama before it was a TV show, and I'm pretty sure that's what the sample is from. But yeah a lot of the other samples come from pretty odd sources
(10:40) If you're wondering, Naganuma got the samples from public domain sample CDs that were especially common amoung Japanese composers in the 90s. The soundtrack to Ollie King (which you should definitely check out it's stellar) implements rapping lyrics also from sample CDs, as Hideki Naganuma also made that OST.
To clarify: samples on paid CDs are usually royalty-free, not public domain. Public domain content is entirely free for everyone to use and share without restrictions, but royalty-free libraries typically allow you to use the samples in your projects while restricting redistribution of the raw sounds. This is a common misunderstanding.
@@realptkyle This is supported by the *HUGE* issue older japanese games faced with extremely blatant copyright infringement. It’s nice that you’re reacting to not just Sonic the Hedgehog but also other Sega OSTs as well. You should definitely do games like Shenmue, Virtua Fighter, Outrun, Yakuza, Panzer Dragoon, & Skies of Arcadia. You should definitely react to Virtua Fighter because they just announced that there’s going to be a new Virtua Fighter game finally after nearly 2 decades of the franchise being on hiatus (re-releases of Virtua Fighter 5 aside) this new entry is from the studio behind the Yakuza franchise. So yeah. Can’t wait for that.
So happy you get to experience the Jet set radio / Bombrush Cyberfunk soundtracks, they are really something special. Was a bit surprised that Funky Radio - the main theme of the game - wasn't included in the soundtrack you listened to though. Probably some rights issue on Sega's part seeing as they had a huge amount of licensed tracks in the game. Subscribed though, gonna have to follow this journey and see you experience how crazy the soundtracks get!

The one problem with the RUclips upload of the soundtrack is it’s missing one of the premiere tracks “Funky Radio”, despite it being on the official CD. I’m not sure why. It seems the Spotify list is also omitting a lot of tracks, that were indeed made for the game, not just licensed out for it.
@@battleapple It's a modest contribution, but your reactions are so genuine, it warms my heart as I struggle to find people around me who like that kind of music :)
Jet Set Radio Future has just as good music as the prequel, so I can't wait for you to react to it! Also Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, the spiritual successor to Jet Set Radio made for the sole purpose of giving JSR fans something new to enjoy. The music has a more modern take, but it's just as funky and amazing! I'm looking forward to this reaction as well :D
Although they have vastly different styles, I think Melty Blood Actress Again has some pretty cool tracks that you might like! Rhythmic Bustle and Strange Dreamer are my main picks, although most of its OST is pretty great. Raito is the composer, and he does songs for other games too. I'd recommend listening to it and also some of the songs from Under Night In-Birth, at least the most popular ones and both of the character select screens.
Original JSR for DC had a couple of songs that were exclusive to each region. A second japanese release called De La Jet Set Radio has all tracks from all regions. During gameplay, there are sets of songs for each mission that change with DJ style transitions. It's a completely different experience to listen to all tracks (licenced ones included), and how the audio was handled in game. Highly recommend you listen to the voice of sega's old school arcade games. Takanobu Mitsuyoshi. Specifically his work for Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2 power edition, and my favorite Burning Rangers
Naganuma really have a style of its own, I remember he tried to make music for Splatoon, but they choose someone else to compose for. Probably the funny thing about him was his Twitter I believe? Where he just posted weird stuff about undestand the meaning of POG or based and so on. Pretty sure that where he got his Funky Uncle nickname lol. I guess is the first time I comment in your channel so I'll leave two recommendations of my favs games OST out there, one being Xenogears by Yasunori Mitsuda and the other YU-NO by Ryu Umemoto (RIP)
Both this and Future's OSTs are great. Even the licensed songs they picked fit in with the game. Miller ball breakers is probably my favorite of those. For a recommendation tho, I think the Ape Escape has a nice vibe. The series has a lot of drum and bass, jungle and garage music. The fist game is probably the most dynamic by mixing a futuristic vibe with going through time so you get this synth that tries to give you ancient feeling. You have to sneak around an catch monkeys so its just as mysterious as it is fast paced. You can find a nice dj mix by just looking its ost up in youtube. But the most interesting about the original Ape Escape, is that in the game if you crawl around the music loses some instruments and if you curl up it lose even more.
OMG I haven’t thought about this OST in years! I used to listen to this, Sonic Rush, Katamari and DDR songs over and over in high school. Such a vibe dude
I honestly think that you would really enjoy a lot of Lapfox Trax/Halley Labs music, specifically some stuff from NegaRen, Bandetto, Mayhem, and FIAB. Lots of wacky crazy electronic music with tons of random samples
I LOVE the Jet Set Radio soundtracks, and JSR Future is actually one of my favorite games of all time. THAT'S ENOUGH has a feel-good, laid-back vibe that's on par with a game of hoops in the park with the boys... which is weird, because I've never experienced that before, lol. I could definitely see this playing in such a scenario.
To me jet set radio ost was like a beta because “future” has some of the same songs but they sound completed/more refined, fleshed out and absolutely divine. Great reactions as always kid!!
A lot of the samples, especially the vocal ones come from sample CDs made specifically for DJs. A lot of 90s eletronic music used samples from these CDs, for example, Daft Punk in their first album
day 2 of recommending the danganronpa series soundtrack! (the last comment was on a less recent video and it wasnt the focus anyway) it's full of bangers and has a mix of genres including edm and 👀 jazz 👀 however there is a LOT of music but thankfully someone made a "best of" compilation! ....which is still 4 hours long so i recommend going into the description and listening to at least one song from each section ^^; if you do plan on doing a danganronpa video eventually i recommend saving all all apologies for the spooky music series! anyway i've been loving your videos lately, found you from sonic cd and now i put them on whenever i eat :D
(replying to this in case i decide to make a "short" must-listen list) edit: alright, here we go! might've gone just a bit overboard... note: in the compilation part i left out the investigation themes because the uploader used the versions that play in the endgame which are much more rock than their original jazzy counterparts. at least one of them will be in the second half of the list. _in the best of compilation (sorted by sections):_ *introduction* DANGANRONPA - SDR2 *beautiful themes* beautiful ruin - SDR2 cool morning - V3 *monokuma themes* ms. monomi's practice lesson - SDR2 good bearning! - V3 (i actually feel like this one is pretty reminiscent of the kind of music you tend to react to!) *despair themes* (i think most of these that I didn't put here would be more suited for the spooky music series) a dead end to the ocean's aroma - SDR2 *intense themes* let's k🕴ll each other - V3 justice for our prime suspect! - SDR2 *trial themes* BRAIN DRIVER - V3 climax reasoning - V3 discussion - HOPE VS DESPAIR - _not in the compilation (in order of importance):_ ikoroshia - SDR2 (aforementioned investigation theme! this one's super iconic) despair searching- DRV3 (another jazzy investigation song) climax reasoning - DR1 SUPER M.T.B - DR1
Spotify dont have the full Jet Set Radio OST :( , The 2 song I remember are Magical Girl and Super Brothers(a Super Mario song in a Sega game when they were rivals) There are actually 2 games, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Hover, Hideki Naganuma work on both OST
Yesssss! If you really enjoyed this ost, I think you'd enjoy Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Lethal League Blaze's osts too. Hideki Naganuma contributed a few tracks to each one!
I noticed you reacted to a few different OSTs for Sonic but Im wondering if you heard of the soundtracks from the Sonic fan games "Sonic BTS and ATS" (before the sequel and after the sequel respectively). There are some absolutely great tracks included that I think youll enjoy, all of which change thematically depending on the zone just like classic Sonic games.
I love Hideki and all of his music that has gone on to essentially form its own genre. if you like this ost check out Jet Set Radio Future, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and 2mello's album Sounds of Tokyo-to Future 2mello is also an amazing artist who made albums based off of Hideki Naganuma's work.
I recommend you listen to the Melty Blood: Actress Again - Current Code OST (specifically the remastering versions that can be found on the main composer Raito's channel). I'ts my personal favoirte video games ost as it has a lot of variety in terms of mood and genres as well as that good old, funky vibe in a good amount of them.
My english is not so great, sorry The last track kinda reminds me of My Dear Fallen Angel, from The King of Fighters 99 (KoF 99).
Jet set music just makes me want to melt away from how enticing it all is.
Not right when i gotta go to work lol. But yeah you'll enjoy, I'll be back to enjoy your reactions to the funky fresh goodness
I was hoping you'd try some of Hideki Naganuma music someday, glad to finally see it happen hopefully we can see more of it!
The goat sound track I spent many hrs of my life on this game as a kid
Grace and glory is one of my favs we gotta get a jet set radio future ost part 2!
and then the gameplay hits!
Humming the Baseline is my morning wake up jam.
A lot of the samples, especially the vocal ones come from sample CDs made specifically for DJs. A lot of 90s eletronic music used samples from these CDs, for example, Daft Punk in their first album
day 2 of recommending the danganronpa series soundtrack! (the last comment was on a less recent video and it wasnt the focus anyway)
it's full of bangers and has a mix of genres including edm and 👀 jazz 👀 however there is a LOT of music but thankfully someone made a "best of" compilation! ....which is still 4 hours long so i recommend going into the description and listening to at least one song from each section ^^; if you do plan on doing a danganronpa video eventually i recommend saving all all apologies for the spooky music series!
anyway i've been loving your videos lately, found you from sonic cd and now i put them on whenever i eat :D
(replying to this in case i decide to make a "short" must-listen list)
edit: alright, here we go! might've gone just a bit overboard...
note: in the compilation part i left out the investigation themes because the uploader used the versions that play in the endgame which are much more rock than their original jazzy counterparts. at least one of them will be in the second half of the list.
_in the best of compilation (sorted by sections):_
*introduction*
DANGANRONPA - SDR2
*beautiful themes*

*despair themes* (i think most of these that I didn't put here would be more suited for the spooky music series)
a dead end to the ocean's aroma - SDR2
*intense themes*
let's k🕴ll each other - V3
justice for our prime suspect! - SDR2
*trial themes*
BRAIN DRIVER - V3

SUPER M.T.B - DR1
Spotify dont have the full Jet Set Radio OST :( , The 2 song I remember are Magical Girl and Super Brothers(a Super Mario song in a Sega game when they were rivals)
There are actually 2 games, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Hover, Hideki Naganuma work on both OST
Yesssss! If you really enjoyed this ost, I think you'd enjoy Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Lethal League Blaze's osts too. Hideki Naganuma contributed a few tracks to each one!
If you like Jet Set Radio you might like Ridge Racer Type 4. The godliest racing soundtrack ever.
Played Jet Set Radio back in the day, and while the game is ok, it's definitely something you play mostly for the OST
I see jet set radio I click. But unfortunately I only played future but I played it for years and I loved the soundtrack of course.
Jet Grind Radio and Vigilante 8 2nd Offense are my 2 favorite Dreamcast soundtracks. ❤
Not sure if you're gonna do JSR Future as well but I absolutely love what they did to Sweet Soul Brother in Future. It's beautiful.
It would be awesome if you will listen the Streets of Rage Soundtracks, i think they are among the best of 16 bit era
Hope you do jet set radio future as well
I love Hideki and all of his music that has gone on to essentially form its own genre. if you like this ost check out Jet Set Radio Future, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and 2mello's album Sounds of Tokyo-to Future 2mello is also an amazing artist who made albums based off of Hideki Naganuma's work.
Has one of the best character select screen songs ever
I recommend you listen to the Melty Blood: Actress Again - Current Code OST (specifically the remastering versions that can be found on the main composer Raito's channel). I'ts my personal favoirte video games ost as it has a lot of variety in terms of mood and genres as well as that good old, funky vibe in a good amount of them.
Jet Set Radio Future (Jet Grind Radio's sequel on the original Xbox) has a really awesome sound track too!
One gotta remember that he did work on the soundtrack for "Air Gear" too. Anime wouldnt have been if not for his touch.
The Scrappy from Jet Set Radio Future is also sick as hell, hoping the sequel gets a listen as well
My english is not so great, sorry
The last track kinda reminds me of My Dear Fallen Angel, from The King of Fighters 99 (KoF 99).
You should listen to the arranged tracks from this game, is not on Spotify but its on RUclips. Just write Kof 99 Arrange and you probably will find. That's it, love your channel:)
I recommend you listen to Ridge Racer Type 4 OST. An absolute classic.
