Here are the openings that I missed in this video ruclips.net/video/0XNpDD7EV0o/видео.html I am going to be streaming Persona 3 Reload this Thursday, 2nd January, on Twitch! I will also upload the VOD to RUclips ASAP! You can find all the links in the description
Damn. You started with the .... nvm. beware of spoilers.. Goodluck. I'll watch your fist VOD. Potential spoilers: I was about to say the game of depression.
Since the Persona series has many enthusiastic fans, there may be people who write spoilers, explanations, unwanted hints, instructions and orders. I hope you will protect yourself from such various things and enjoy your first playthrough without being misled by unnecessary information.
@tamami777 thank you so much for the advice! Yea, I will do my best to avoid such information 😅 I started playing, and it is amazing! I love everything about the game so far, the music is just the best I have never had such an experience in a game before, everything was new to me and I love it can't wait to continue playing
One thing you can't tell from the trailers alone is that Persona 2 is the sequel to Persona 1, which is practically the only direct sequel to the story; none of the rest are literally continuations of each other.
Well actually Persona 2 is split into two parts, innocent sin, which the original game was never released in america on ps1 but was ported to psp in english, and eternal punishment its sequel while they both don’t directly follow the same story there is one character from both who is self aware of what is happening. So to explain shortly, innocent sin’s ending is a timeline reset, and eternal punishment is a continuation of the mc of the first parts story (sort of) as he regained memories of that timeline, i can’t say more as it spoils things, but i’ll say the story is crazy.
@@keybladeguardian7 they are connected in that they share a universe but you could play them in any order with minimal issue, while Persona 2's story is a direct continuation of 1's with much of the cast returning as side characters if not party members
@@8-bitSprinklesthey’re all in the same universe but one and two are the most closely connected. There’s references to 2 in 3 and references to 3 and 4 in 5
To explain the butterfly, it is a symbol / manifestation of Philemon, a god-like creature that is behind the powers that the main cast uses. He only appears and is mentioned in Persona 1 and 2 though, and knowing about him is not at all important for 3, 4 and 5. In these games, the butterfly is usually more symbolical, and is often used in relation to his assistants that help you in his stead. In Persona 4, it is mostly just used as a save point, haha.
Based on lore, philemon left the world after P2’s second parts and left his velvet room (a room you use to create personas, in P1-2 it with crafting, and in P3-5 its through fusion) to his assistant Igor the old man with the pointy nose, he is in every persona game and helps create the assistants that you see in P3-5, its music and room is pretty much a persona staple.
@robotron2720 oh the old man is not a bad guy then I thought he is some evil character. I see he is the one making those personas! thank you for the information
Wonderfully explained Id also like to add this: The old man and his assistants help guide the protagonists to find their answers at the end of their journey. Not to spoil too much, but in P5R, there is a bad ending where the butterfly dies before it can reach the protagonist, hitting the point home that there is no forward for him anymore. Butterflys also stand for transformation and you can loosely tie this kind of symbolism to the protagonists
The characters don't actually transform in any of the games! They use different methods to summon their "Persona", a manifestation of their inner self. Their Personas usually appear near them and use all sorts of different spells to fight enemies (which depend on the game), even though the characters also have weapons. Hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy Persona 3 Reload!
sometimes it looked like a transformation, some others it didn't instead as if something coming out of them so I was confused thank you for the explanation I can't wait to play it it will be fun I'm sure
@rexaliv8798 I heard of the anime but never watched it 😆I see, so it's something similar to Jojo. well I'm gonna be playing it this Thursday so I will find out
In fact, Persona's songs are strangely so fast that they don't seem like it, but the HUGE majority of the lyrics are in English. There are rarely parts of the lyrics in Japanese and when there are, it is either just a little or 100% of them. This is for the opening and theme songs, the OSTs are in Japanese even when they have lyrics. And each game has practically its fixed singer where Persona 3 has the female voice singing and the male voice rapping Persona 4 with its own female singing voice And Persona 5 with its own female voice singing and sometimes borrowing the rapper from Persona 3
ohh I see that's interesting to know! English isn't my first language so it's hard for me sometimes to understand songs I wish there were subtitles for the lyrics so I could understand what the song was about more 😅 thank you for the info patori
so, to answer a fewof the questions u had: "persona 25th" is cuz the year when the revelations opening movie came out was the 25th anniversary of the franchise they arent HORROR games, but they deal with themes like morals, demons, existensialism, between a few other things. so they defo have a grim ambient. the older ones defo have a more grim atmosphere to them than the most recent ones, aswell. the guns in persona 3 r called "evokers", without going into too much detail, they r "summoning devices". they r used to summon demons (which this game in particular calls them "personas" and stablishes them as "different parts of the human psyche"). as for why they aim it to the head, u will have to play it to find out. FES stands for "festival" according the game director, and it was the first remake that the game had. without going into too much detail, in persona 3 and its remakes, the main goal is to find out about the mystery of the "dark hour" (a sort of "25th hour" that exist in this world), for which the main protagonist and a bunch of schoolmates, form a group to investigate. the butterfly, is recurring character across all games, called "philemon". he is generally presented as a neutral guide and observer, tho his role and presence varies from game to game.
wow so that's what the guns are about! summoning demons 😱 I can't wait to find out more from playing this really looks interesting and so different from the games I played. oh wow that sounds super mysterious I like that so the game is a bit dark, but not scary which is good. I can deal with a bit of darkness I see so that's what the butterfly about! I made a completely different story for it lol thank you vampi!! that was some interesting info I just learned I can't wait to try the game out
Persona 3 is all about finding meaning in life and accepting your own mortality, coming to terms that people around you and you yourself will die eventually. Also there is a gacha Persona 5 coming out called Persona 5 The Phantom X. It also has an opening. The Persona Q games are crossovers between the different Personas, from 3 to 4 to 5. Arena games are fighting games. The Dancing games are rhythm games... There's a LOT of spinoffs.
I see! so that is really what it is talking about life and death! I heard about the gacha but wow I didn't know it has an opening I missed it 🥲 thanks for letting me know, I will check it out and probably have it for a future video
@@8-bitSprinkles Also Persona are basically JoJo stands. It was originally inspired by them. That stays consistent in every game, but the summoning mechanic is different. They use gun-shaped devices called evokers to summon their Persona. In 4 they crush a card. In 5 they rip off their mask. Each has it's own symbollic meaning you'll discover as you play. Also all of the games are dark and fucked up in their own right, but 4 and 5 aren't as overt in their dark themes. 4 is finding and seeking the truth, and 5 is about the metaphorical "mask" we wear in society to hide our true self.
yeaa so far from reading all the comments, it seems like the topics discussed in these games are very heavy, but wow really? it gets so dark like that? 😱 I can't wait to play them and experience the games for myself, I think it will be an interesting experience for sure! thank you for the info
25:36 "He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how." One of my favorite Friedrich Nietzsche quotes basically saying that having a clear and strong enough "why" or will gives you the strength to face any "how" or adverisity of life's challenges. Which fits very well into the themes of Persona 3 and the series in general.
Thank you for the explanation I appreciate it! It really is very interesting. I am still at the start of the game, so I haven't seen the characters tackle these topics yet, but I can't wait for it! Thank you again
It _is_ a really good quote. I'd write it out differently than how they put it in the intro, though, mainly to get rid of the space between 'why' and 'to live'. He who has a _'why'_ to live for, can bear almost _any_ 'how.' _-Nietzsche_ with emphasis from me.
55:15 Nope, not a villain. That's the "transformation/summon" you were looking for the whole time in Persona 5. It appears in almost every P5 opening, they were usually just more subtle about it.
The Q in Persona Q comes from the fact that those games are basically Etrian Odyssey games with Persona characters. Etrian Odyssey is called Sekaijuu no Meikyuu in Japanese, with the last word sometimes spelled "MeiQ".
The butterfly is a symbol of a soul. You see the earlier games were more intertwined with Jungian Psychology. Meaning there is a version you see yourself as, a version others see you as, and a version of you that is actually you. "I was dreaming of a butterfly, or was I dreaming that the butterfly was me?" We wear different masks for different points in our lives so our decisions will not always be consistent. Know that each of these masks are still you even your negative aspects. So we each have different "Personas".
oh wow that is so deep and very interesting! I never understood the butterfly so thank you for this it makes sense to me now, that's why it's "Persona"!! 😲
You actually missed the most recent opening, for Persona 5X. It's a mobile gacha game based on and in the same world as P5, and the opening is genuinely one of the best in the series so I def recommend watching it!!
The Persona Q games are crossover games. The first Q game has characters from both Persona 3 and 4. You can see in the opening the P3 Protagonist shake hands with the P4 Protagonist and in Persona Q2 you have characters from 3, 4 and 5.
@@8-bitSprinkles The "Q" in Persona Q is meant to be a pun in a way since it's a spin-off based on the Etrian Odyssey series, which in Japan is titled "Sekaiju no Meikyuu" (Meaning World Tree's Labyrinth), the "Kyuu" is pronounced like the letter "Q" in English
Butterflies in Persona were originally associated with a character named Philemon, but have since come to represent souls, subconsciousness, change, guidance and hope.
5:00 "Butterfly Effect" - For clarification the Butterfly Effect in general has nothing to do with time travel. The effect means : Something minor someone did caused other people to do things and down the line it completely escalates. Example : I drop a nail and because of that somebody got hurt while stepping on it , that person then pushes someone else because of the pain , the pushed person then pushes some button by accident , and because the button was pushed somewhere else a Nuke detonates. Something like that. Essentially the Final Destination movies show the effect pretty well on how one thing leads to another. In the Butterfly Effect Movie you only see the cause in the past and the conclusion of the effect in the present , without actually seeing how the things are entangled. Or in other words , in the Butterfly Effect Movie you only see whats before and after the Butterfly Effect ... so you dont actually see the Butterfly Effect in happening.
@@Animedingo True , but every Persona game escalates in some way for some reason. That said , the Butterfly in Persona has just nothing to do with the Butterfly Effect , but its still important.
@@8-bitSprinkles Youre Welcome. Btw if you plan on Playing the games i would recommend to play Persona 3 Reload and after that Persona 5 Royal , P5R has still better gameplay despite P3R being newer. After that , just wait until P1 , P2IS + P2EP , P4 get a remake.
39:24 here in the first pQ is p3 cast 39:40 the right guy is the p3 mc and after that is a mix between p4 and p3 cast 40:34 there is also p3 mc again. when he fights he's always holding the gun close to his head as you noticed 50:14 here is the p3 cast. background is blue like the theme of the game (p3 blue. p4 yellow. p5 red) 50:32 . 50:37 p3 mc with the gun haha 51:03 p3 mc with the other mc's (4 and 5) just pointing them out because you said you didn't notice p3 in pQ
thank you so much for this honestly I don't know it's like I am blind looking at the video but not noticing anyone other than p4 characters I went to all those time stamps to see the p3 mc, he is ingrained in my brain now and I will be playing p3 reload so I will never forget him thank you again that is really helpful
Persona is mostly a franchise about Japanese highschoolers with the power to summon demons from their minds who have to manage their school life while also secretly traveling to another world to fight monsters. There's only 1 timeline with only 1 alternate universe but every mainline game has it's own story that you don't need to know anything else about before you play.
Thank you for the information! I understand now that the games are not linked at all and each has it's own story. it will be interesting to try some others too not just 3
Maybe someone has mentioned this to you already, but the main characters' group is called the phantom thieves and I think they took inspiration from The Phantom Thief Kid (Kaitou Kid). I haven't looked it up to see if its true but I love Detective Conan and The Phantom Thief Kid anime, so when I saw their outfit changes + masks and that they were called the phantom thieves, I immediately thought of those anime. (I'm referring to the cast of p5 btw, just to be clear cause I forget to say that)
Personas are a representation of the inner self, and it can be quite taxing both physically and mentally to draw them forth as a real entity separate from yourself. In Persona and Persona 2, a god named Philemon intercedes directly and makes the main characters able to summon their personas easily, but in 3,4, and 5 they need a medium to aid in the summoning. - In Persona 3, they use evokers, which look like guns because pulling the trigger of something that looks and feels like a gun against your head triggers the fight or flight instinct and allows the summoning. The Personas in this game are mostly characters who suffered tragedy, such as Orpheus, Polyduceus, and Io, with a few others thrown in like Hermes and Thanatos. - In Persona 4, the characters break tarot cards tied to their roles in the story. The Personas in this game are mainly Japanese gods. - In Persona 5, the characters remove a physical mask that represents the mental barrier keeping the inner and outer selves apart. The Personas in this game are what the main characters picture as representations of rebellion, such as Captain Kidd, Zoro, and (in Strikers) Jean Valjean.
Forgot to mention you can skip 1&2 as they might be old & stressful for you, as they're not easy, plus rumors say 1&2 are getting new remakes like persona 3 remake the new one So just play 3 reload, persona 4 golden, 5 royal, then the spin-offs if you want AAAAAND persona 6 might get announcement next year😆 it's just rumors + speculation
ohhh yes 1 and 2 don't look very appealing 😅 that's nice! I will probably try more in the future for sure, p4 and 5 too I can't wait for the gacha too I am so excited for that. I wonder how they can make a gacha persona 🤔
@@8-bitSprinkles 2 is much grindeo for the personas can takes hour for obtain personas you want but history Is excelente dark and tragic the first part inocent sin

@@8-bitSprinkles persona 1 and 2 are basically shin megami tensei but in a school setting those are basically something different than what we think about when we imagine persona actual persona games that share an identity and can be considered its own series are 3 , 4 and 5
a interesting thing about persona 1 is that its technically a sequel to shinmegami tensei IF, a game for the time that stood out for the time cause it took place in the highschool setting instead of a post apocolyptic setting like many of the other games in the series. The protag of IF actually is a npc in 1 that is basically like "i cant believe this is happening again." . Which leads me to the other stand out part of persona 1 and 2, which is that all the demons and bad guys are in the real world actively attacking people and its a known emergency in the city, while om persona 3 and onwards all the plot is generally a secret unseen battle that you and your allies are fighting that few know about. All that to say, hey P1&2 at least is something to check out one day, maybe with a guide on hand just in case cause they have some old dungeon crawling that can be a bit of a headscratcher. They're also actually pretty short games too Aldo yeah remember despite the cute aesthetics and being so popular these games are rated M for a reason, they tackle some PRETTY heavy topics
yea from all what I have read so far, they do seem to be very heavy and a bit dark! I wonder how dark it will get in the game itself 😅 I can't wait to try it I really wanna see for myself thank you for all the information
In case you're curious, the whole 'I dreamed I was a butterfly' quote thing for the first opening is a famous Buddhist koan (think 'philosophy riddle' but rather than questioning, it's about helping the listener understand a vital truth that will help lead them on the path to enlightenment/'freedom from karma'). Buddhism specifically holds the belief that life/existence in general as we know it is an illusion/lie designed to trap us in the endless and unrelenting cycle of Karma (aka cause and effect or 'fate') and one of the core parts of that lie is the idea that we/living things are actually separate individuals living in a 'real' world. So, the koan was written to help people to better understand this idea by bringing up this 'Am I the butterfly' scenario and pointing out that according to the Buddha's teachings and the writer of the koan, there is actually no functional difference between the dreamer, the butterfly, the 'real' world and the dream, and to try looking for one is in fact just another one of the traps Karma locks us into. It's weird/heavy stuff but the quote is pretty well known in Japan, and the Persona series just LOVES to dive into the 'what is real/who am I?' questions so the quote and the reoccurring butterfly motif the series has going on fits it quite well I think~
that's an interesting explanation about the the butterfly! some have explained it but a bit different. so it's a Burddhist teaching! very deep and philosophical for sure! I love it even though it was hard to comprehend what it is about. knowing this makes it more interesting! I see now how deep and heavy are the stories/topics of the persona games. but for sure they are fascinating and we can relate to! Thank you so much for all the explanation I appreciate it
@@8-bitSprinkles Personally knowing where a quote comes from and how it was intended to be read is a lot more handy for building a genuine understanding than just having the 'meaning' translated/stated I feel, but well I'm no Buddhism expert and I doubt most other English speaking Persona fans are either so good odds we're all at least a little wrong in one way or another (and that's before the heavy philosophy of the koan itself kicks in XD). Happy to share and in general would say that if there's something in Persona that makes you go 'hm what's that about?' good odds its a reference to some kind of philosophy or cultural thing (like the cards are tarot, Persona and Shadows are both concepts from Jungian psychology, the cat in Persona 5 is based on the main character of the Japanese novel 'I Am A Cat', the bear in the P4 openings one of those store mascots, certain tragic backstories about the flaws in modern Japanese society, etc). Lots of fun to dig into if you ever have the time
that's interesting, it's really deep! I will start by playing the game I guess and see where that take me thank you so much for this extra information it's nice to learn more
Pop culture has 2 butterfly tropes that it (ab)uses: 1. The butterfly effect which was given to us by a meteorology professor at MIT and speaks about how even the flaps of a butterfly's wings can influence air currents and cascade into becoming storms on the other side of the world. It speaks to the interconnectivity of meteorological phenomena at its core but can be used to reference how cause and effect can make small gestures at one point in time ripple to serious unforeseen consequences later down the line. It's most used with time travel stories, but it can be used within regular stories to talk about how things are connected and how one's actions can influence other seemingly unrelated events indirectly. 2. The dream of the butterfly which is a philosophical exploration put forward by a Chinese philosopher named Chuang Tzu. This one has nothing to do with cause and effect but with perception of reality. It was actually used in the Matrix movies as well and it refers to how impossible it would be for an entity to determine the form of reality through nothing but its own experiences. A man dreams that they are a butterfly but they then wake up and they realize they are still a man so are they a man who dreamt of being a butterfly or a butterfly currently dreaming that they are a man? It is impossible to really tell, we can only really guess. Sure we can measure reality to some extent, but we still perceive it as part of our own personal experience so if the result of the measurement is nothing but a dream itself, you can't say which is reality and which is the dream. This is the butterfly that is used in Persona, though with less mind breaking effects. It's about one's personal perception of subjective reality and their identity. Perception and identity are big themes in the Persona series. It probably helps that butterflies really do look like Rorschach test so there's another connection to psychology right there! Or do Rorschach tests look like butterflies? I guess that depends on the observer...
And the dream of the butterfly is relevant to Persona because it's a game where self-identity and self-discovery are inherently tied to strength. That you can become strong because your understanding of reality changes. And in another way, that reality can change based on people's opinions of reality.
@vetreas366 oh wow that dream about the butterfly was confusing for me I didn't understand what they were trying to convey. but your explanation is making it easy to understand, this is really interesting! I have experienced dreams and in the dream I truly believed that I'm in the real world until I wake up and be glad that it was just a dream. such interesting and deep themes are in these games, I am so looking forward to playing persona 3 reload even more thank you again for all of your help @AusSP oh wow I see! so basically experience makes you stronger! that is really interesting, and it is true the more we understand the stronger and more confident we become I guess. thank you
@@8-bitSprinkles Well, yes, but I meant that Persona is pretty literal with it. Significant character development literally gives your party better performance in battle as a direct and immediate result. You'll understand once you play the game.
The butterfly is a very common element in all of the persona games, it actually represents the velvet room, which is the key means for the main character to get stronger persona P3 about fighting through and accepting mortality. Because of this theme each of the persona users in the game utilize a fake gun that they use on themselves as a means of calling on their personas. P4 has a theme of harsh truths and comforting lies. They use tarot cards to activate their personas that correlate with their personalities. P5 is about rebellion, their masks represent their spirit of rebellion against any kind of oppressive force, after the mask manifests they actually have to rip it off of their face. Afterwards, they gain their phantom thief costumes that go with the masks. While there is some shin Maga tensai games that have the main character actually transform into creatures. This is not something they actually do with any ofthe persona games.
thank you so much for all this information! I just started playing P3R and got to learn a bit about the game, I saw the use of guns to summon their persona haha It's such a crazy good game I love it! thanks again I appreciate it
This is actually a fun fact that Persona 3 is the game with the most versions of the same story. Persona 3 has: Persona 3 Original, P3FES, P3P and now Persona 3 Reload Persona 4 has: Persona 4 Original and Persona 4 Golden Persona 5 has: Persona 5 Original and Persona 5 Royal Games like Dancing, Arena, Tactica and Persona Q are spin-offs of minigames and fun with cute or different versions but nothing impacts the base game.
Correction: both Arenas and P4 dancing game are canon, continue the original story and take place after the base story's end; P3 and P5 dancing games are not canon; PQ and PQ2 are canon but are pointless since after the end of both of them all characters get their memories wiped while new OCs get stuck in limbo; Tactica is canon and takes place somewhere in the second third of the base game of P5, but is also kinda pointless since the events taking place are never brought up again in P5/Royal/Strikers (so basically canon filler content).
Interesting fact: The opening to Persona 3 "Burn my Dread" was misheard when it came out so it sounded like "Burn my Bread" and that has became a long running gag since. It was even referenced in Persona 5 Royal in the Jazz Club.
I don't think I saw anyone mention it, but Persona 3 not only introduced the life simulator elements it introduced the calendar system. Persona 1 and 2 just had you going through the story like a normal jrpg, but 3 onwards they started using the calendar system. All that means is that you are playing throughout an actual school year. You have to balance your time since you can only do so many actions each day. During school days you have time to do two long activities, and on weekends you can do three long activities. There are some short interactions that don't take time, but long activities are usually things like visiting the dungeon, spending time with friends, raising your social stats, working part time jobs, studying, etc. So you have to figure out what you want to do and when to focus on building relationships as you only have so much time in the game. If you want to replay the game, the only thing that carries over are your social stats which are the stats that help you increase your relationships with friends and others faster. I would just say to focus on the things and relationships you like best in your first playthrough. Also any school relationships outside of your party members usually get locked out during the holidays, since you can't find those characters outside of school so if you like them to focus on them before big breaks like summer.
Good morning Sprinkles, now you hit the person's weakness here because I've already cried with Persona, but I'm not going to say which one And all the persona songs are simply the pinnacle of game music as each one tells its own story.
@8-bitSprinkles I have 300 hours of Persona 3 Portable and I've already seen the entire story of Persona 4, you will have a great experience with 3 Reload because it is made along the lines of the most famous in the franchise, which is Persona 5 Royal
The thing about Death being a huge Part of Persona 3 is because it is its theme. From 3 onward, every Persona followed a Theme. In 3 it was Life and Death and how to handle being Mortal or people dying. In 4 the theme is Truth and the search of it while being inside a great mystery (also facing your own true self), while the theme of persona 5 is Rebellion in multiple ways, such as breaking free of a system that puts you down, adults who take advantage of you (in multiple ways) search for freedom, fighting against the "system" and so on. Persona 1 and 2 were not as light hearted if you will and were closer to occult themes like the main series Shin Megami Tensei (which Persona is actually a spin off of). With Persona 3 the all around concept of the game greatly changed in the sense that the games were split into 50% slice of life daily simulation with going to school etc and finding friends and 50% dungeon crawler jrpg elements while persona 1 and 2 were almost entirely the latter. Since then the series came a long way and it bacame actually bigger than the main series (Shin megami tensei) and even got its own spin offs like arena (a beat em up 2D game) the dancing games (which are rythm based games) and so on.
Since you were confused, the Q games are crossover games where time-space allows the meeting up of multiple protagonist groups. First Q game allows a crossover from 3 and 4, and Q2 added 5. Though, the creators of Q were a different studio, so the characters were kinda slightly caricature-ized.
ohh yea that Q especially I never saw p3 in there I guess I just wasn't familiar with the characters many people have pointed them out for me I see it now I'm gonna be playing p3 reload so I will never forget the mc again lol. thank you for the info
Just found your channel through this reaction and I gotta say your model is really cute hon. I'm admittedly kinda glad you're starting with Persona 3 instead of 5 like most newcomers do and look forward to seeing the vod. I really hope you enjoy it! ❤
thank you so much you are so sweet I was actually recommended to start with 5 royal but I thought maybe best to start with the latest game persona 3 reload I'm looking forward to playing it I think it will be a lot of fun
Responding to your comment in the title about what persona is, practically persona as the purpose of the word is to discover who and how we are, that's why they are always high school teenagers The protagonists of the story because at the end of everything we are all searching for ourselves at this time.
I see! it is really deep and heavy topics they discuss I guess. finding out about themselves. that will be really interesting. I have never experienced a game like this
Hi, I'm here because I wanted to react to some Persona since I'm in my Persona phase. I wanted to make you know that I really like your accent. Thanks for the reaction
In Persona 3, the characters must come face to face with their mortality in order to use their powers. The easiest way to do that is with an Evoker, a technomagical device that precisely mimics the sound and feel of shooting themselves. It doesn't kill them, but psychologically it's almost as hard as if it did.
Yes, it must be horrifying! I started playing P3R, and Yukari was really struggling in using the gun, but I completely understand. Even if you know it isn't real, it's still horrifying 😱
The butterfly quote is from a Chinese Daoist philosophers named Zhuangzi from the Chinese Warrring States Period of 576-221BC He wrote about dreaming about being a butterfly and how after waking from his dream, it is not clear whether the dream was the real world and the real world is actually a dream. In the games the butterfly represents a character named Philemon who helps the main characters. At least in Persona 1 and 2
So something to keep in mind is that each game has a theme behind it. I haven't played the first three (One and the Persona 2 duology) but Three is about Death and Living life to the fullest, Four is about Acceptance, and Five is about Rebellion. Any crossover game usually tries to combine the themes.
that is interesting! I will probably play 3, 4 and 5 to experience their stories, from what I gathered so far they really seem to have interesting stories
After watching this whole video, I'm definitely watching the vods of your P3R playthrough! Her calling the Personas "transformations" kinda hurt, but oh well, she now knows she's (kinda) wrong xD
So the Q duology are crossovers of the modern persona titles, the first being 3 and 4 and 2 adding the cast of 5. The Q is a reference to the Japanese name of another Atlus series called Etrian odyssey, from which part of Persona Q's gameplay stems from. And the Persona 5 cast does use melee weapons like 3 and 4, for example the 5 protag uses knives. They just also use firearms
I see! I didn't notice p3 in Q I'm just so unfamiliar with the characters but I see it now after many have pointed it out thank you so much for the information I appreciate it
Fun Fact: Because Persona 3 Portable was made for a handheld device, the Intro for the game was actually designed so you can view it normally OR upside down. If you do so, you'll find that approximately half of everything in the intro is upside down. Text, effects, animations, all of it. This is because Portable added the option to play a Female Protagonist, so choosing to view the Playstation Portable Screen upside down essentially gives you the Female protagonist's point of view, while viewing it normally gives you the normal Male protagonist's point of view. (Bonus Fact: The Female Protagonist is the girl with the polearm in the Q2 Intro.)
I can't speak of the first 2 games, but Persona 3 has the most profound theme of the games. Persona 4 is about finding the Truth and the importance of what is true. Persona 5 is essentially about freedom and individuality, to rebel against the oppression that comes from what society wants you to be or act. But Persona 3 is about life. It's analyses life through the perspective of death, or mortality. If we're all going to die, what's the point of life? Do we matter? Isn't here meaning in life? The game wants you reach multiple conclusions, but the central point is that, life has a meaning, but not despite death, but _because_ of death. "Memento mori" is Latin for Remember you will die (remember you're mortal). It's not a warning, but encouragement. Make the most of life because it is so precious. Find what gives life meaning and treasure it.
I’m a little late, but one interesting thing about the Persona games that I’ve liked is that each game (starting with Persona 3) is themed around a different genre of music and color palette. Persona 3 uses hip-hop and the color blue, Persona 4 uses pop and the color yellow, and Persona 5 uses jazz and the colors red and black.
oh that's an interesting fact!! I did notice the colours since I'm using the picture in the thumbnail but didn't know that was the case for the music too! thank you for the info
PERSONA is about being a loner who stays at home playing for dozens of hours as a boy who socializes with others and has many friends, even a girlfriend.
I have no idea who you are but happy to check out someone New trying out the persona games i don't use twitch so will be checking out the vods hope you enjoy
The games also have ending themes, and the anime versions of these stories also have their own openings and endings. the persona 4 anime has 2 openings and then theres also the persona 4 golden anime which has its own.
I found you from this video, so hello ^^ I should mention the "Q" games are a spin-off series made to unite the "main" persona series, (anything 3 and after.. which makes me sad X3) But it is a alternate universe from the main game with weird canon ties to the main game (so it feels canon actually) Also, the Persona's have a color motif (Revolutions we assume is Black or White, Both of the 2 games is Purple, 3 is Blue, 4 is Yellow, 5 is Red and the soon to be 6 is speculated to be Green funnily enough!) Hope this helps a bit for the future!
heyyyyy I recognised the Q2 that it was p4 and p5 but didn't notice the p3 and p4 in Q but I see that p3 mc is right there! oh wow I see so it is cannon! I thought maybe just extra games but not tied together. I bet it's very fun seeing the different personas meet that would be interesting to see for sure! yea I noticed the colours for p3,p4, and p5! it's nice to have colour themes like that, yes you are right green is missing so it should be for 6 thank you so much for the information
A quick and dirty breakdown of Persona: Highschool kids defeat god, gods, the devil, or god god, or the devil god god who is also yourself to protect the world from anihilation, with various themes of facing difficulty, yourself, or corrupt adults.
Persona 3 specifically focuses on the theme of life and death. Learning to live life to the fullest and facing death. P.S. They don't transform. They summon the things hence why they still have their own weapons
The Persona 3 Portable word flashes were really cool when I first saw them. I also spent time pausing trying to figure out what it said. I used to have them written down but others have documented them. Here are my favorite ones. He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how. What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Memento Mori Man was born free, and everywhere he is in chains. L'obéissance au seul appétit est esclavage et l'obéissance á la loi qu’on s’est prescrite est liberté (Obedience to one appetite is slavery, and obedience the law that is required is freedom) Living is not breathing but doing. The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed. Man believes what he wants to believe in the way he wants. Forgetting pain provides relief, but only leads to repetition. Life is the law, death merely sleep. To live is to change, to choose something new to lose whatever has not been chosen to gain by loss. Life is precisely “the finite”
Oh wow, thank you so much for this! I really wanted to know the lyrics or what's written on those songs. Such deep and wise words are very true! I enjoyed reading them. Thank you so much really it is making me really excited to find out how all this is gonna reflect in the game stories!
@@8-bitSprinkles No prob. P3 was a great journey to play through. I originally played it right before P4 came out so it was a crazy feeling going through both games in close succession. I hope you enjoy it.
omg you always don't recognize p3 mc(the one with dark blue hair covering one eye)or the p3 cast in general😭 it's fine i understand hahaha it's just he's one of my fav mc
The personas aren't really transformations, they're more summons that can help fight, that's why the characters also have weapons. The games take place in the same universe, but the stories aren't really connected other than the the innocent sin/eternal punishment duology. There are some references to the other games, but no direct story connections so its easy to jump in anywhere. Most of the games have an enhanced version of some kind, 3 FES, 4 Golden, and 5 Royal specifically. 3 also has its full remake in Reload. Persona Q were spinoff games that combined the casts of several games (combining 3 and 4 for q1 and 3, 4, and 5 for q2) and played more similarly to dungeon crawlers like etrian odyssey
ohhh really? I was thinking at the start it looked like a transformation, then something coming out of them, then again transforming like super heroes? but I see I see! thank you for the explanation. so that's why they have weapons too 😲 interesting! I did notice the cross over in Q2 between p4 and p5, I didn't notice Q 😅 Thank you for the information that was helpful
Persona 3 is vry based around the idea of death and life as a whole, so hearing death in the lyrics makes sense. (As someone else said) To answer the question of what the Q games are, they're crossover games for the newer Persona games, Q1 being 3 and 4 and Q2 being P3 Persona Portable with Kotone Shiomi the girl at 50:54 who's an alternate P3 protagonist available in the Portable version of P3, P4, and P5.
heavy but interesting topics they discuss in the persona games, a few people have explained to me the different themes and it's very interesting! I look forward to experience those stories for myself when I play! oh wow the girl is the alternate p3 protagonist! that is interesting. I know I kept missing and not noticing the male protagonist in p3 but after many people pointing it out I see that he is also in p3 reload which is what I will be playing. thank you so much for the info
Each of the persona games is based around a major facet of society. For instance, P3 is based largely on death, how we cope with it, and its impact on our lives. P5 is based very heavily on the idea of “justice,” and P4 has a strong focus on stardom. That’s why many of them seem to have such vastly different tones
I see I see! thank you so much for this explanation, it's nice to know that. it will be interesting to try the various games and experience the different stories, it won't feel as a repetition or anything. thanks again I appreciate it
They're not transforming, though the main characters in P5 do get new different costumes as you described in the parallel world "metaverse" where they fight, what they summon are more like Stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Basically personifications (hah) of their heart or soul made physical as something that can fight for them.
a Gun in Persona 3: you shoot [not really] yourself in the head to summon your Persona a Gun in Persona 4: the main weapon of just "one" character a Gun in Persona 5: now we have a melee weapon and a distance weapon for every character seriously, seeing a streamer reacting to Persona for the first time misunderstanding many things is like watching a chia pet growing, so innocent
The creation of persona is actually something funny because the company Atlus had games called Shim Megami Tensei where they had a whole fauna of monsters and Beings but it was never so successful because Which is focused on magic and fantasy, and then they took their immense fauna which are monsters and even mythological beings And they created Persona, using a human world like ours and using elements of human emotion and mysteries. And it turned out extremely well.
The guns that Persona 3 cast use to shoot themselves are special devices called "evokers", not real guns. It ties with the game's theme, "Memento Mori", remember you are mortal, remember you will die. The evoker is used to bring out their ability (summoning their alter egos), "personas", which is fully manifested when they gather the courage to truly face the fact that they will one day die.
oh wow I see, I'm gonna be seeing that myself too in p3 reload then!! that's really helpful knowing a bit. so thank you so much for the info very interesting!
Hey, look finally a vtuber that doesn't act surprised every 3 seconds and is being herself actually! I loved your reactions to these haha and i found your channel by accident. Have you started persona 3 yet?
haha thank you I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction! and yesssss I started it and I just uploaded the VOD to my VODs channel if you would like to check it out! it's such an amazing game, I never played anything like it before. I'm happy I made the decision to give it a try
@@8-bitSprinkles Awesome! I am happy to hear that haha. I will definitely check it out later to see your reactions to...... Some certain random stuff and of course to what will happen! :D
yes I am sorry I found out that I haven't been paying attention to p3 mc at all but that's the one I'm gonna be playing first so I will never forget him again
Its fun seeing more reactions to the openings. Especially ones where the reactors speculate on what's the story...& mostly make incorrect guesses 🤣🤷♂️. The openings for the Persona 4 anime are actually different from the ones in the games for the most part. Although they are done by the same singer. And the one for Persona 4: Golden is reused for the anime adaptation of that updated re-release specifically. Wow, you are struggling when it comes to remembering the characters from Persona 3. You couldn't recognize their appearances in the spin-offs. Good luck doing so for Persona 3: Reload.
Oh, and on a side note, they don't transform into those. They manifest them. Like summons that phase out of their bodies, as something to note.^^ Similar to Stands from Jojo's Bizarre Adventures.
Persona usually take a philosophical problem as for our journey and the final boss usually representative those problem. they usually take one philosophical problem and fictional or mythological with same genre or pantheon for each number. 3 for example take problem of people fear and wish for death, and most of main cast persona and final boss are manifestation of Greek/roman mythology, this is why dead and remember you are mortal word appear, it also show in their way of summoning trough shot themselves.
Hello :) 15:24 the second language aside from english that you see is french. I'm not gonna translate everything but it's related to some philosopher's stuff (like "je pense, donc je suis" from Descartes which means : "I think, so i am"). They use it as reference in that opening i think (not sure). For the others, i've only played persona 4 golden and persona 5 royal. In persona 4g the main theme is truth, you try to found the serial killer behind murders in inaba (where you live). The yellow from the opening (and the game) can be attributed happiness, energy, and positivity, but it can also represent caution and deception. In persona 5 royal, you play as a phantom thief: you "stole" the heart of bad people (like really really bad) to make them confess their crimes. The red color can be attributed ro rebellion or freedom (red took it's meaning through the french revolution in 1789 when the red flag, who was a symbol of peace/truce at first became a symbol of rebellion). 53:23 Just in the opening 😅. In persona 5 royal, you will see s-word attempt, and a teacher who physically bully his male students, sexually harasses female student and sexually assault them (if i remember right) and this is only in the "intro" of the game.😅
oh thanks for the translation haha it's a bit mysterious, dark and complicated I guess, the story of the some of the persona games 😅 oh it's only cheerful in the opening? lol, I already saw in p3 and before, it's really dark and not so cheerful really so I guess the rest might be the same too. but it will be interesting to play through the story of P3 reload and see what it's about
@@8-bitSprinkles i recommend it ! P3 reload is a really good game but be careful, in persona games some choice will impact the end you will get . Aside from persona, you can play smt games :) the 5 is a really good introduction to the series. It's a lot less talkative than in persona but it's a lot harder. (I completed the game in 60 hours +10 hours wasted because of deaths 🥲)
persona 4 the animation is the only anime I would recommend to watch in dub over sub. Same voice actors as in the games and the voice acting is very good.
@@8-bitSprinkles I just remembered something. If you are going to watch the persona 4 animation, make sure you watch persona 4 the animation and not persona 4 golden animation.
@@8-bitSprinkles yea, so first came out persona 4 (the game), a bit latter the persona 4 animation came out. Then sometime later, once persona 4 golden (the game) came out, which is the definitive version of the game. They decided to make a second persona 4 anime. However it is not considered that good, simply because it dose not focus on the persona 4 story at all, it just focuses on the new content added in persona 4 golden (the game). So unless you have seen the original persona 4 animation or played the persona 4 game, you would not know what's going on most of the time. Also the new content shown in the anime is considered kinda meh.
I love the reactions, looking forward to your persona playthrough! Btw Persona Q is a crossover between p3 and p4, and they added p5 in the sequel. You should check the shin megami tensei openings too! They're not really anime-like but it's interesting to see the mainline game from where persona was born🧃🦐
glad that you enjoyed them oh so it is a crossover! I noticed the Q2 was p4 and p5, I didn't notice the first one, I guess I'm just not familiar with the characters yet 😅 thank you for the info I just found out that shin megami tensei is the original game and persona came from it. very interesting! I will check it out thanks for the recommendation
All the Persona games are canon in some way whether it be by dream or not and also they are all very different but are in one continuity (from Eternal Punishment onwards) they go inside TVs in Persona 4 (my personal favorite)
another person liking p4 the most! Though my reason for that is the opening song I don't know the story yet, but I can't wait to play and find out. Thank you so much for the info
The Persona series was originally a spin off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game is about high school students who have a special power called personas and must use that power to save the world. but Persona 3 took the series in a new direction by making the game into two parts, a life simulator and a dungeon crawler, everything you do in normal life makes you stronger in the dungeon part of the game. The life simulator part has special side stories with side characters and party members called social links, when doing those stories your Personas become stronger and you get other bonuses. Thanks to that new gameplay formula, Persona became much more popular than Shin megami tensei, making Persona Atlus's new mascot franchise and after that it got a lot of spin-offs of its own. The games often get improved re-released versions with new content and story content, for example Persona 4 golden and 5 royal are improved versions of 4 and 5, and 3 Reload is a full on remake of 3 Persona 3 4 and 5 are not connected, they are in the same universe but you can play those 3 games story in any order you want. Every game has its own theme Persona 3's theme is death, it follows a group of high school students trying to cope with, understand and accept death in a world surrounded by it, as well as find their own reasons for living Persona 4's theme is "truth", as the characters overcome their own problems by facing themselves, helping them see past rumors and falsehood. 5's themes revolve around attaining freedom from the limitations of modern society: the story was strongly inspired by picaresque fiction, and the party's Personas were based on literary outlaws and rebels. but I would first play 5 royal because of the Handcrafted Dungeons, then 3 reload because it has many of the improvements from 5 and then 4 golden because it's a bit Rough Around the Edges but still great then there are also a lot of spin-offs Persona 5 Strikers is a Dynasty Warriors spin off and is a sequel to Persona 5 and is the best spin off in the series. Persona 5 Tactica is a tactics game a bit like Mario + Rabbits and takes place between Persona 5's second and third semesters. 4 arena is a fighting game and is a crossover between 3 and 4 and is a sequel to both, and arena ultimax is a continuation of that but it has all the story content of the original. 4 dancing is a continuation of 4 and 4 arena and is a rhythm game, persona has amazing music that you can see, 3 and 5 dancing are the same but the 2 do not have a story mode like 4 dancing Q1 is a crossover between Persona and the Etrian Odyssey series, you explore Labyrinths and create your own maps on the 3DS's touch screen and the game has both the 3 and 4 casts, and Q2 is the same but with the 5 cast added, Although they are canon both games end in a mind wipe.
whoaa thank you for the detailed explanation for each game I really appreciate you taking the time to do this I love that each has it's own theme, so I can play them all and not feel like it's a repetition 😅 very interesting topics too for each game, deep and very relatable. I can't wait to check them out for myself! since I already purchased reload 3 I will have to start with it and then in the future try 4 and 5 thank you again for all this really
I see I see! I don't know Final Fantasy either. I did notice that the characters are different in the different versions of persona. so the story also is not connected
Each numbered game is a different group of people using the power of Persona (summoning aspects of their own personality as weapons) to solve problems. Mechanics differ between games, and different themes are focused on each time. With the exception of Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, the cast are primarily high schoolers. Persona 1) When reality breaks and monsters invade a town, a group of highschoolers are given powers to fight back. The game is pretty interesting, largely because the fifth member of your party can be one of several and there's a completely unrelated alternate questline (the "Snow Queen" story) that never made it to the States in the original release. Persona 2: Innocent Sin) A group of friends that went their separate ways after a tragedy are drawn together when rumors start becoming reality, ranging from "the local grocery store sells weapons under the table" to this mustachioed German war criminal coming back for another crack at world war. Besides dealing with the the crisis of the now, the echoes of that past tragedy chase them. Persona 2: Eternal Punishment) To fix the last game's tragedy, they reset the world and forgot everything. Separated from each other, they grow into adulthood. Maya, the lady with the heart jacket and secondary lead in Innocent Sin, becomes a reporter that gets caught up in a serial killer case and begins to realize the reality she knows isn't the right one. She works with a bunch of other adults, ranging from a police officer to a criminal information broker, to save the day. Persona 3) The start of the series as a "social sim" style game. A transfer student to a new high school discovers he has the ability to summon his Persona during a monster attack, only to then discover that everyone in his dorm have the same ability and have formed an afterschool club to destroy the monstrous "shadows" and figure out what's going on and how to stop it. This game has been remade several times: FES (short for Festival) includes a lot of new content and a final chapter that serves as an epilogue to the main game's ending. Said epilogue is poignant, but the difficulty spike and combat focus were not well received. P3P is a Playstation Portable port that included the chance to play a female lead instead of the normal male one, building their own circle of friends separate from the male version. Persona 3 Reload is the most recent, and basically is the original P3 game with all the style and substance that makes Persona 5 beloved. The best story of the last three games, dealing heavily in matters of the meaning of life and death and finding the will to keep moving when all hope seems lost. The whole "shooting yourself to summon your Persona" is exclusive to Persona 3, with the logic that severe psychological stress (such as pointing a fake gun at your head and pulling the trigger) was an effective means of evoking a Persona. In reality, though, it's just an edgy bit of shock value to draw attention back to a franchise that had largely been overlooked. Persona 4) Another transfer student gets moved from the big city to a rural town. What should be a very boring year in the sticks turns into anything but when a serial killer begins killing people, leaving their bodies hanging from strange places. The students discover that there's an alternate reality inside of televisions and use that to investigate the murders and attempt to save future victims before they die. The game is focused on the importance of learning and accepting the truth. Even when it isn't pleasant, even when that unpleasant truth is about you yourself. Accepting easy answers without question, denying reality, and running away from your worst aspects are the cardinal sins of the game. Persona 4 Golden is the same game with a lot of additional content. Persona 4, due to the dungeons being centered around party members, has the best cast as they're more fully defined than in any other game in the series. Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax) One on one fighting games starring post-game iterations of the Persona 3 and Persona 4 casts. Pulled into an alternate reality and forced to fight in a tournament, the cast are forced to face versions of their friends that spout incredibly hurtful comments carefully crafted to break their will. The games are pretty well done, and the branching storylines result in some hilariously out of context "bad" endings and side plots, such as Kanji (the lovably dense "bad boy" of Persona 4) believing the whole event is a dream and cheerfully going all-out on a fun brawl without ever realizing that it was actually conceived to be a form of psychological torture. Persona 5) After getting a criminal record due to saving a woman from assault, the main character is forced to move to the city and spend a year under probation in a culture that considers criminals to be pariahs. When given the ability to enter the mindspaces of corrupted people and force them to repent, the main character gathers a group of fellow outcasts to combat this corruption in the style of gentlemanly phantom thieves. The recurring themes here are rebellion against what is forced upon you and how people can become twisted by painful experiences or blind ambition. Persona 5 is by far the most stylish and fun of the games, oozing elegant character out of every pore. Persona 5 Royal is another of the now traditional re-releases with extra content, this time adding a third semester to the storyline as well that extends the narrative in new directions. Persona 5 Strikers) A sequel to Persona 5 (not Persona 5 Royal, which has events and outcomes not reflected in Strikers). Despite their victory in Persona 5, a new crisis of psychological events similar to their trademark "changes of heart" begin cropping up around Japan, making the Phantom Thieves the prime suspects. In order to clear their names, save the day, and simply enjoy a summer together after months apart, the Phantom Thieves go on a national tour resolving these events and trying to work out what's going on. The combat style is very different from the normal games, being an action oriented, one against armies, "Samurai Warriors" style game. Strikers seems custom made to flesh out the members of the party that did not get enough screen time in the original game by showing how much they've grown since their introduction. It does not carry on from Persona 5, however, and thus completely ignores the social aspects of that game - including what friendships and romances you might have pursued. There are also dancing games and other side stories that are not supposed to be canon and are just extra content with beloved characters.
whoaaa! first of all thank you so much for taking the time to write all this p1 and p2 story seem really interesting! I really hope they get a remake it will be nice to play them. yes I did notice the guns more in Persona 3, I saw them in the others but not as much and not shooting themselves! I understand now what they are for I love how each persona has a different story and theme, it won't feel like a reptation when playing them all 😅 very interesting for sure and can't wait to experience them all for myself thank you again this was really helpful
@@8-bitSprinkles It's my pleasure. The Persona series has been one of my favorites since the first was released in the states, and anything I can do to help someone else understand and enjoy what they're looking at (without spoiling too much) is a privilege. I'm not a Twitch sort, but I will be subscribing here just to catch the VODs and see your reaction to these stories. A few other bits of trivia: In Personas 1, 2, and 5 , every member of the party has guns as well as melee weapons, in order to tackle different kinds of enemies. In P4, only Naoto (the detective prince) uses a gun, and it's a real revolver as the prince is a genuine detective and therefor licensed to use one. In all games, the use of the Persona is the equivalent of casting spells in a typical RPG. How you summon them differs, but the characters fight their enemies with weapons and cast spells on them using Persona. In Persona 5, this is still a thing, but the heroes are self-styled Phantom Thieves and thus wear disguises and use code names when on the job. Persona 1 and 2 are more classic games about powering your way through a crisis, while the 3, 4, and 5 are as much about the crisis as they are ordinary life. You can make friends, fall in love, study for tests, hang out at the mall, and spend your remaining free time slaying monsters using Jungian psychological archetypes in the place of magic. Where the first games take place over, say a week, the later games are spread out over a year (April to March). The later games are very long (easily in the 40-50 hour range, potentially over 100 for completionists who are inclined to take breaks to talk to their audience), but they use that time well to craft powerful narratives and casts so engaging you'll dread the end of your time with them. (Thus the constant demand for spinoff games of any variety.) Persona 2 is really hard to get both parts of, particularly in the US. Innocent Sin never got localized on the PS1, and Eternal Punishment never got localized on the PSP. It was made, but licensing issues (I think about the music?) kept them from releasing it stateside. If you're going to watch an anime of any of the games, P4 has by far the best, as it catches the spirit of the games rather than a simple retelling of events. The dub is also one of those greats that surpass the sub (in my opinion). The English dubs of these games are also exceptional. Although you are free to name the main characters whatever you like, the generally accepted "canon" names for them are Makoto Yuki (3), Yu Narukami (4), and Ren Amamiya (5). This is only really relevant if you get choice paralysis when naming your character and want something to default to. The dude with the long nose, Igor, is the only recurring character in all five games, as he's the guy who helps you develop your Persona. Not so fun fact, the Japanese voice actor for Igor passed away after Persona 4, so they needed to use a different voice actor in Persona 5. This is reflected in the English dub as well, as he's given a deep, resounding voice rather than the gentle, quiet voice he has in other games. This is also why he isn't very talkative in the P4 anime, as they had to use voice clips from the game instead of bringing in the original voice actor to voice new lines. I hope you enjoy the games. They're not everyone's cup of tea, being long-form RPGs about highschoolers fighting monsters in the cracks of reality with very long tutorial phases. But the stories and characters are phenomenal and patience is rewarded. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
Thank you so much again for the extra information after reading so many comments I am understanding and a bit of what kind of game persona is. I am looking forward to playing it. I hope that I will enjoy it and continue playing it!

One thing you can't tell from the trailers alone is that Persona 2 is the sequel to Persona 1, which is practically the only direct sequel to the story; none of the rest are literally continuations of each other.
I did notice that all the characters are different in the different personas! so I see 1 and 2 are connected!
Well Persona 3,4 and 5 are connected literally

In Persona 4, it is mostly just used as a save point, haha.
oh wow I see, I completely made up my own meaning for the butterfly thank you for the explanation I appreciate it
Based on lore, philemon left the world after P2’s second parts and left his velvet room (a room you use to create personas, in P1-2 it with crafting, and in P3-5 its through fusion) to his assistant Igor the old man with the pointy nose, he is in every persona game and helps create the assistants that you see in P3-5, its music and room is pretty much a persona staple.
@robotron2720 oh the old man is not a bad guy then I thought he is some evil character. I see he is the one making those personas! thank you for the information
Wonderfully explained
Id also like to add this:
The old man and his assistants help guide the protagonists to find their answers at the end of their journey.
Well except for Persona 5, where they do transform in a way.

And each game has practically its fixed singer where
Persona 3 has the female voice singing and the male voice rapping
Persona 4 with its own female singing voice
And Persona 5 with its own female voice singing and sometimes borrowing the rapper from Persona 3
ohh I see that's interesting to know! English isn't my first language so it's hard for me sometimes to understand songs I wish there were subtitles for the lyrics so I could understand what the song was about more 😅
thank you for the info patori
The only songs with Japanese lyrics in Persina 3, 4 and 5 are the end credit songs.

@@8-bitSprinkles are u chinese?
so, to answer a fewof the questions u had:
"persona 25th" is cuz the year when the revelations opening movie came out was the 25th anniversary of the franchise
they arent HORROR games, but they deal with themes like morals, demons, existensialism, between a few other things. so they defo have a grim ambient. the older ones defo have a more grim atmosphere to them than the most recent ones, aswell.
the guns in persona 3 r called "evokers", without going into too much detail, they r "summoning devices". they r used to summon demons (which this game in particular calls them "personas" and stablishes them as "different parts of the human psyche"). as for why they aim it to the head, u will have to play it to find out.
I can deal with a bit of darkness
I see so that's what the butterfly about! I made a completely different story for it lol
thank you vampi!! that was some interesting info I just learned I can't wait to try the game out
FES isn't a remake, it's a re-release that came one year after the original game with some new additions to the story
@Autumnnm I see I see! thank you for the info
that's just when that video was uploaded by Atlus. It was in the original game

It appears in almost every P5 opening, they were usually just more subtle about it.
oh wow I see 😲thank you for pointing that out!
The Q in Persona Q comes from the fact that those games are basically Etrian Odyssey games with Persona characters. Etrian Odyssey is called Sekaijuu no Meikyuu in Japanese, with the last word sometimes spelled "MeiQ".
ohh I see! thank you for the interesting information
7:31 If you love a mystery, welcome to Persona, because my friend, how much mystery do you have in this world...

I’ve seen a bunch of these opening reactions but your personality is particularly delightful, making this an easy watch and subscribe!
aww that's so sweet of you thank you so much for the support I'm glad you enjoyed my reaction
28:19 calling tatsuya a girl is killing me🤣
lol I had to go back and look at that minute. I really thought it was the other girl or maybe there was never a girl I'm sorry
You actually missed the most recent opening, for Persona 5X. It's a mobile gacha game based on and in the same world as P5, and the opening is genuinely one of the best in the series so I def recommend watching it!!
aw that's too bad I will check it out for sure! I heard about the gacha game from a friend but didn't know there is an opening for it
The Persona Q games are crossover games. The first Q game has characters from both Persona 3 and 4. You can see in the opening the P3 Protagonist shake hands with the P4 Protagonist and in Persona Q2 you have characters from 3, 4 and 5.

5:00 "Butterfly Effect"
- For clarification the Butterfly Effect in general has nothing to do with time travel.
In short: the persona team does not know what the butterfly effect is
@@Animedingo True , but every Persona game escalates in some way for some reason.
That said , the Butterfly in Persona has just nothing to do with the Butterfly Effect , but its still important.
@mistressminerva3382 oh wow thank you for that! I didn't even understand what the butterfly effect is then I appreciate that thank you

The mention of Detective Conan made me smile! (The phantom thief guy you were talking about is Kaitou Kid)
yes yes that's what I am referring to
Maybe someone has mentioned this to you already, but the main characters' group is called the phantom thieves and I think they took inspiration from The Phantom Thief Kid (Kaitou Kid). I haven't looked it up to see if its true but I love Detective Conan and The Phantom Thief Kid anime, so when I saw their outfit changes + masks and that they were called the phantom thieves, I immediately thought of those anime. (I'm referring to the cast of p5 btw, just to be clear cause I forget to say that)
Oh wow, really? No wonder that's the thing that came to my mind when I saw p5 main character! That's interesting
i always like at the end of the p3 dancing song it ends on the lyric "NO MASS DESTRUCTION NEEDED", which is the name of the main battle theme of P3
The Personas in this game are what the main characters picture as representations of rebellion, such as Captain Kidd, Zoro, and (in Strikers) Jean Valjean.

a interesting thing about persona 1 is that its technically a sequel to shinmegami tensei IF, a game for the time that stood out for the time cause it took place in the highschool setting instead of a post apocolyptic setting like many of the other games in the series.

I will start by playing the game I guess and see where that take me thank you so much for this extra information it's nice to learn more
"Memento Mori, remember that you will die/that you are mortal."
Pop culture has 2 butterfly tropes that it (ab)uses:
I have experienced dreams and in the dream I truly believed that I'm in the real world until I wake up and be glad that it was just a dream.
such interesting and deep themes are in these games, I am so looking forward to playing persona 3 reload even more

@@8-bitSprinkles Well, yes, but I meant that Persona is pretty literal with it. Significant character development literally gives your party better performance in battle as a direct and immediate result.

The butterfly is a very common element in all of the persona games, it actually represents the velvet room, which is the key means for the main character to get stronger persona
P3 about fighting through and accepting mortality.

Clearly the FES was for Firearms Eligibility System. The P3 cast needed to get certified to carry those gun- I mean Evokers.
lol you are so funny
This is actually a fun fact that Persona 3 is the game with the most versions of the same story.
Persona 3 has: Persona 3 Original, P3FES, P3P and now Persona 3 Reload
Persona 4 has: Persona 4 Original and Persona 4 Golden
Persona 5 has: Persona 5 Original and Persona 5 Royal
Games like Dancing, Arena, Tactica and Persona Q are spin-offs of minigames and fun with cute or different versions but nothing impacts the base game.
@@zelg.5551P5 Tactica came after Royal and Strikers, there's no way it could been mention in the previous game unless they make the remake of it.
@patorikkuns, @zelg.5551, @grandethar1121 Thank you so much everyone for all the information
Interesting fact: The opening to Persona 3 "Burn my Dread" was misheard when it came out so it sounded like "Burn my Bread" and that has became a long running gag since. It was even referenced in Persona 5 Royal in the Jazz Club.
lol that's funny
Also any school relationships outside of your party members usually get locked out during the holidays, since you can't find those characters outside of school so if you like them to focus on them before big breaks like summer.
thank you so much for all this! I can't wait to experience the game for myself

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I appreciate it
Since you were confused, the Q games are crossover games where time-space allows the meeting up of multiple protagonist groups. First Q game allows a crossover from 3 and 4, and Q2 added 5. Though, the creators of Q were a different studio, so the characters were kinda slightly caricature-ized.

I have never experienced a game like this
Man it hurts to see how close she was to figuring out the summoning system instead of the transformarions 😭
some people have explained it to me but I think I need to play the game to fully understand
Hi, I'm here because I wanted to react to some Persona since I'm in my Persona phase.
I wanted to make you know that I really like your accent. Thanks for the reaction
Haha thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it
In Persona 3, the characters must come face to face with their mortality in order to use their powers.
Good question.
Happy New Year!!!
hahaha Happy New Year to you too
The butterfly quote is from a Chinese Daoist philosophers named Zhuangzi from the Chinese Warrring States Period of 576-221BC
He wrote about dreaming about being a butterfly and how after waking from his dream, it is not clear whether the dream was the real world and the real world is actually a dream.
In the games the butterfly represents a character named Philemon who helps the main characters. At least in Persona 1 and 2
Thank you so much for the information that is very interesting and deep! Yea, it seems like the butterfly isn't in the other personas as much 🤔
So something to keep in mind is that each game has a theme behind it.
Its always funny to me when people don't notice the dead bodies in the P4 Openings
dead bodies 😱 I didn't notice
@@8-bitSprinkles it's the upbeat music and bright colors it distracts you lol
Lol, and I was thinking it is so cheerful until the bloody eye in one of the openings
After watching this whole video, I'm definitely watching the vods of your P3R playthrough!
Her calling the Personas "transformations" kinda hurt, but oh well, she now knows she's (kinda) wrong xD
Haha, yes, I saw how it happens now with those guns. It isn't a transformation!
I'm glad that you enjoyed the video
So the Q duology are crossovers of the modern persona titles, the first being 3 and 4 and 2 adding the cast of 5. The Q is a reference to the Japanese name of another Atlus series called Etrian odyssey, from which part of Persona Q's gameplay stems from. And the Persona 5 cast does use melee weapons like 3 and 4, for example the 5 protag uses knives. They just also use firearms
I see! I didn't notice p3 in Q I'm just so unfamiliar with the characters but I see it now after many have pointed it out thank you so much for the information I appreciate it
Also the music of Persona series are just absolute peak!
they areeee!! I loved them all especially persona 4 opening I said that so many times already in the video
@@8-bitSprinkles since I started with Persona 5 different games, I’m bias, but persona 5 series is by far my favorite
yea you recommended it to me before, maybe I will play that too in the future
Fun Fact: Because Persona 3 Portable was made for a handheld device, the Intro for the game was actually designed so you can view it normally OR upside down. If you do so, you'll find that approximately half of everything in the intro is upside down. Text, effects, animations, all of it. This is because Portable added the option to play a Female Protagonist, so choosing to view the Playstation Portable Screen upside down essentially gives you the Female protagonist's point of view, while viewing it normally gives you the normal Male protagonist's point of view. (Bonus Fact: The Female Protagonist is the girl with the polearm in the Q2 Intro.)
oh wow that is interesting! 😲 someone also said I can watch it upside down but didn't know it was the female in there too! thank you for the info
Find what gives life meaning and treasure it.
deep and heavy topics but very interesting! I would like to see how all of that fits in the game I can't wait for it thank you for the information
Oh my days, you reminded me to play The persona games, I have a lot on my gaming back log in this holiday indeed
haha hope you enjoy it
I’m a little late, but one interesting thing about the Persona games that I’ve liked is that each game (starting with Persona 3) is themed around a different genre of music and color palette.
PERSONA is about being a loner who stays at home playing for dozens of hours as a boy who socializes with others and has many friends, even a girlfriend.
lol that's funny
I have no idea who you are but happy to check out someone New trying out the persona games i don't use twitch so will be checking out the vods hope you enjoy
thank you so much! I am glad that you are interested in my gameplay
The games also have ending themes, and the anime versions of these stories also have their own openings and endings. the persona 4 anime has 2 openings and then theres also the persona 4 golden anime which has its own.
oh wow I see! I want to check out the anime after I play the games, I think it will be fun
I bet it's very fun seeing the different personas meet that would be interesting to see for sure!
yea I noticed the colours for p3,p4, and p5! it's nice to have colour themes like that, yes you are right green is missing so it should be for 6
thank you so much for the information
persona 3 my beloved
58:00 Oh my fucking god. I felt ancient all of a sudden.
I am just so bad with tech 😅
A quick and dirty breakdown of Persona: Highschool kids defeat god, gods, the devil, or god god, or the devil god god who is also yourself to protect the world from anihilation, with various themes of facing difficulty, yourself, or corrupt adults.
Haha, I like this breakdown I started playing, and I love it. It's such an interesting and new type of game/story to me
I really love the 5 Royal Opening, it's directed and animated by my most love anime director in the industry.
Persona 3 specifically focuses on the theme of life and death. Learning to live life to the fullest and facing death.
P.S.
They don't transform. They summon the things hence why they still have their own weapons
I see! Thank you so much for the information
This was so cute to watch
Haha, I'm glad you liked it 😆
The Persona 3 Portable word flashes were really cool when I first saw them. I also spent time pausing trying to figure out what it said. I used to have them written down but others have documented them. Here are my favorite ones.
He who has a why to live for can bear almost any how.
What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger.
Memento Mori
Man was born free, and everywhere he is in chains.
L'obéissance au seul appétit est esclavage et l'obéissance á la loi qu’on s’est prescrite est liberté
(Obedience to one appetite is slavery, and obedience the law that is required is freedom)
Living is not breathing but doing.
The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.
Man believes what he wants to believe in the way he wants.
Forgetting pain provides relief, but only leads to repetition.
Life is the law, death merely sleep.
To live is to change, to choose something new
to lose whatever has not been chosen
to gain by loss.
Dw only we care about door kun
lol I know I am sorry but I am going to be playing Persona 3 Reload so I will never forget him
I see Everyone talking About that, she missed persona 5 X Opening... But what about Episode Aigis? 🤔
oh really? I missed another?
@@8-bitSprinkles Yup
Could you please tell me if I missed anything else? 🥹
@@8-bitSprinkles I think it would only be those 2, Persona 5 X and the openinig of episode aegis 😉
Thank you!
I did notice the cross over in Q2 between p4 and p5, I didn't notice Q 😅
Thank you for the information that was helpful
54:00 "Who's the villain here?" Hmmm... society, I guess?
I see! 😲
Each of the persona games is based around a major facet of society. For instance, P3 is based largely on death, how we cope with it, and its impact on our lives. P5 is based very heavily on the idea of “justice,” and P4 has a strong focus on stardom. That’s why many of them seem to have such vastly different tones
I see I see! thank you so much for this explanation, it's nice to know that. it will be interesting to try the various games and experience the different stories, it won't feel as a repetition or anything. thanks again I appreciate it
"Cute Teddie, what does it do?"
harass girls mostly
lol really?
They're not transforming, though the main characters in P5 do get new different costumes as you described in the parallel world "metaverse" where they fight, what they summon are more like Stands from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Basically personifications (hah) of their heart or soul made physical as something that can fight for them.
Yeaa I understand now how it works since I also started playing the game they are summons and not transformations 😆
a Gun in Persona 3: you shoot [not really] yourself in the head to summon your Persona
a Gun in Persona 4: the main weapon of just "one" character
a Gun in Persona 5: now we have a melee weapon and a distance weapon for every character
seriously, seeing a streamer reacting to Persona for the first time misunderstanding many things is like watching a chia pet growing, so innocent
haha thank you so much for clarifying it I can't wait to play! it looks like it's gonna be so much fun
I see! that is interesting, for sure Persona is very popular now 😲 thank you for the information
poor P3 protag she forgets him so easily...
yes I am sorry I found out that I haven't been paying attention to p3 mc at all but that's the one I'm gonna be playing first so I will never forget him again
Good luck doing so for Persona 3: Reload.
yes the only characters that I could really distinguish were p4 and p5 they stand out more lol but I will be playing p3 reload so I will remember them
Oh, and on a side note, they don't transform into those. They manifest them. Like summons that phase out of their bodies, as something to note.^^ Similar to Stands from Jojo's Bizarre Adventures.
oh I did think that something was coming out of them, but then it didn't look like that so I didn't know what it is
Persona usually take a philosophical problem as for our journey and the final boss usually representative those problem. they usually take one philosophical problem and fictional or mythological with same genre or pantheon for each number. 3 for example take problem of people fear and wish for death, and most of main cast persona and final boss are manifestation of Greek/roman mythology, this is why dead and remember you are mortal word appear, it also show in their way of summoning trough shot themselves.
Very deep topics in the persona games, and very interesting too. I can't wait to experience it in the game
Hello :)
15:24 the second language aside from english that you see is french.
In persona 5 royal, you will see s-word attempt, and a teacher who physically bully his male students, sexually harasses female student and sexually assault them (if i remember right) and this is only in the "intro" of the game.😅
oh thanks for the translation haha it's a bit mysterious, dark and complicated I guess, the story of the some of the persona games 😅
oh it's only cheerful in the opening? lol, I already saw in p3 and before, it's really dark and not so cheerful really so I guess the rest might be the same too. but it will be interesting to play through the story of P3 reload and see what it's about
@@8-bitSprinkles i recommend it !
Oh wow, I see! That's interesting! I will keep it in mind Thank you.
@@8-bitSprinkles your welcome. I hope you enjoy the persona series.
@@8-bitSprinkles I just remembered something. If you are going to watch the persona 4 animation, make sure you watch persona 4 the animation and not persona 4 golden animation.
Oh, there are 2 of them? I didn't know. 😲 I will keep that in mind. Thank you
@@8-bitSprinkles yea, so first came out persona 4 (the game), a bit latter the persona 4 animation came out.
Persona 2 EP is my favorite persona game. Also the hardest.
I noticed the Q2 was p4 and p5, I didn't notice the first one, I guess I'm just not familiar with the characters yet 😅 thank you for the info
I just found out that shin megami tensei is the original game and persona came from it. very interesting!
@8-bitSprinkles my reason is the characters
The games often get improved re-released versions with new content and story content, for example Persona 4 golden and 5 royal are improved versions of 4 and 5, and 3 Reload is a full on remake of 3
Persona 3 4 and 5 are not connected, they are in the same universe but you can play those 3 games story in any order you want.
Every game has its own theme
Persona 3's theme is death, it follows a group of high school students trying to cope with, understand and accept death in a world surrounded by it, as well as find their own reasons for living
Persona 4's theme is "truth", as the characters overcome their own problems by facing themselves, helping them see past rumors and falsehood.
5's themes revolve around attaining freedom from the limitations of modern society: the story was strongly inspired by picaresque fiction, and the party's Personas were based on literary outlaws and rebels.
but I would first play 5 royal because of the Handcrafted Dungeons, then 3 reload because it has many of the improvements from 5 and then 4 golden because it's a bit Rough Around the Edges but still great
then there are also a lot of spin-offs
Persona 5 Strikers is a Dynasty Warriors spin off and is a sequel to Persona 5 and is the best spin off in the series.
4 dancing is a continuation of 4 and 4 arena and is a rhythm game, persona has amazing music that you can see, 3 and 5 dancing are the same but the 2 do not have a story mode like 4 dancing
Q1 is a crossover between Persona and the Etrian Odyssey series, you explore Labyrinths and create your own maps on the 3DS's touch screen and the game has both the 3 and 4 casts, and Q2 is the same but with the 5 cast added, Although they are canon both games end in a mind wipe.
whoaa thank you for the detailed explanation for each game I really appreciate you taking the time to do this I love that each has it's own theme, so I can play them all and not feel like it's a repetition 😅 very interesting topics too for each game, deep and very relatable. I can't wait to check them out for myself!
since I already purchased reload 3 I will have to start with it and then in the future try 4 and 5 thank you again for all this really
Not all games are connected. Think of it like Final Fantasy, so many games and yet not many are connected is kinda like that
I see I see! I don't know Final Fantasy either. I did notice that the characters are different in the different versions of persona. so the story also is not connected
@ most of the time, yes. Some games bring references of previous games and some other times previous characters appear for a reason
ohh I see! that's interesting. I will probably not notice any references since I don't know any of them
Each numbered game is a different group of people using the power of Persona (summoning aspects of their own personality as weapons) to solve problems.
There are also dancing games and other side stories that are not supposed to be canon and are just extra content with beloved characters.
whoaaa! first of all thank you so much for taking the time to write all this
p1 and p2 story seem really interesting! I really hope they get a remake it will be nice to play them.
yes I did notice the guns more in Persona 3, I saw them in the others but not as much and not shooting themselves! I understand now what they are for
I love how each persona has a different story and theme, it won't feel like a reptation when playing them all 😅 very interesting for sure and can't wait to experience them all for myself
thank you again this was really helpful
@@8-bitSprinkles It's my pleasure. The Persona series has been one of my favorites since the first was released in the states, and anything I can do to help someone else understand and enjoy what they're looking at (without spoiling too much) is a privilege. I'm not a Twitch sort, but I will be subscribing here just to catch the VODs and see your reaction to these stories.
A few other bits of trivia:
In Personas 1, 2, and 5 , every member of the party has guns as well as melee weapons, in order to tackle different kinds of enemies.
(Thus the constant demand for spinoff games of any variety.)
Persona 2 is really hard to get both parts of, particularly in the US.
