The Persona series was originally a spin off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. The game is about high school students who have a special power called personas and must use that power to save the world. but Persona 3 took the series in a new direction by making the game into two parts, a life simulator and a dungeon crawler, everything you do in normal life makes you stronger in the dungeon part of the game. The life simulator part has special side stories with side characters and party members called social links, when doing those stories your Personas become stronger and you get other bonuses. Thanks to that new gameplay formula, Persona became much more popular than Shin megami tensei, making Persona Atlus's new mascot franchise and after that it got a lot of spin-offs of its own. Persona 5 phantom x is a Japanese gacha game but it is one that you can play without paying money, it takes place in an alternate universe, with a new cast of characters, it has the same gameplay as the main series with a few small differences and every playable character that is added gets their own social link, it has a very interesting Story mode, it is only playable in a few countries now but a global release is confirmed, it is playable on your mobile but also on Steam and a console version is planned for later
You're right. P3=Blue P4=Yellow P5=Red heard P6 is gonna be Green. After Persona 5, they left P-Studio to form Studio Zero and made Metaphor Re Fantazio, they're still a part of Atlus but Persona games will be develop by different team from then on. You think the Persona 5 cast look like baddies? Probably intentional, as they are supposed to be thieves…more of the Robin Hood variety to be more specific. The kind that steal from baddies to help the poor in need. I don’t really notice a quality drop after 5, as I consider all P5 OPs bops. At most…they kinda milking P5s popularity. And “Kuma” is just Teddie’s name in Japan. Renaming something to be more marketable in other countries have been a thing for years. Like “Persona 4: Arena” is called “Persona 4: Ultimax” in Japan & “Persona 5: Strikers” is called “Persona 5: Scramble” there. Each Persona game is it’s own separate story with their own set of main characters. They just take place in the same world. No need to worry about continuity from each game that much…although there are a few recurring characters & references to past games that can be easily missed.
No. They look like baddies because people think they're bad. Joker has a criminal record. Ryuji the thug. Ann an sex object. Morgana's case is special, but he is clearly a mascot. Futaba is alien/unknown. Makoto is a henchman. Yusuke isn't original. Haru is a traitor. And so on. Identities others imposed on them.
@ That’s basically the same thing. They look like baddies because they thieves. That’s why they call themselves the Phantom Thieves. What you on about?
@@kaylemathewcomendador6964 You are saying it as like it was their idea to have those outfits in the first place. The idea of being Phantom Thieves only came up after they learned that stealing hearts not only works but doesn't kill people. Like what? since you picked the original Japanese intros for Persona 1 and 2, they have some Japanese text at the beginning. Persona 1 has Zhangzi's (Chuang-tzu's) Butterfly Dream Parable: "Once upon a time, I dreamt I was a butterfly, fluttering hither and thither, to all intents and purposes a butterfly. I was conscious only of my happiness as a butterfly, unaware that I was myself. Soon I awaked, and there I was, veritably myself again. Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man." Persona 2 has Heinrich Hein's poem "Homecoming": Still is the night, the avenues rest, In that very house dwelt my sweetheart; She has long since left this town, But the house still stands on the very same spot. There stands another who stares into space And wrings his hands in deep pain; It chills me as I see his face- The moon reflects my very own form. You my double, you pale accomplice! Why do you mock my love sickness, That has tormented me on this same spot So many nights, in other times?
Hashino, Meguro and Kaneko started working on the persona series in Persona 3 on the PS2. They were responsible for that iconic persona style, the music, the art style and stories. They didn’t work on the original 1 and 2 but worked on the remakes for the PSP, and after P5 came out, they announced they would no longer work on the persona series, Shoji Meguro even left Atlus altogether to create a new game studio. But they worked together on a new game and original IP called Metaphor: ReFantazio, that came out few months ago.
Hashino and Meguro yes, but Kaneko has been there since Atlus's founding and did design the characters for P1 and 2 and all the collectable Demons/Personas throughout the series. Soejima did replace Kaneko as character designer for P3,4 and 5 but he was a protege of Kaneko so the DNA is still there
not sure what is the most unusual take, ranking 5's music below 3 and 4 (very surprising for a blind reaction but entirely valid and respectable) or thinking the Phantom Thieves look evil (okay now you've completely lost me what)
A lot of their costumes are based on early cinema villains (spy, punk, pirate, alien, femme fatale, James Bond villain) Fox is basically the only one who was not inspired by a law breaker.
The reason why the Persona 5 kids look like bad guys is because other people imposed such identities onto them and the kids are using that to rebel and take control of their lives(fate). Joker has a criminal record. Sexual rumors were spread about Ann. Ryuji is made to be thug by the school. Morgana's case is special, but he and his powers are based on being a mascot. And so on.
The ones with the slightly longer titles like 4 golden and 5 royal are re releases of the original but usually have a new endgame dungeon and antagonist, slightly adding more to yhe story
The reason for the long gap between persona 2 and 3, as well as how different it looks is that the company was going bankrupt and persona 3 was their last ditch effort.
The reason why Teddie has 2 names is because Teddie's name in the Japanese version of some Persona games is Kuma (クマ) Kuma meaning bear, and the English versions just decided to name him Teddie after obviously teddie bears.
i mean, there's still one you missed, Persona 3 reload:Episode Aigis opening movie (but it kinda spoils persona 3 reload so...keep that in mind if you actually wants to play the game
It’s nice to see you pay attention to what’s happening in the openings, like story elements that may be present No disrespect towards anyone else reacting, but they don’t really say anything about those things happening and it doesn’t feel like a commentary reaction really 😭
P3 (original) P3 FES - Re Release with post game content and updated main game content P4 (original) P4 Golden - Same as P3 FES P5 (original) P5 Royal - Same as P3 FES All the other games 3-5 are spinoffs with different game genres. PQ games are crossovers on the 3DS between 3-5's characters. If you enjoy P5 Royal, definitely check out Persona 3 Reload since you seemed to take interest in that one! It's in most people eyes, the best way to play Persona 3, being a fully fledged remake and all. It's also on sale (or it least was) for 50% off. Same with P4 Golden. All amazing games, but P4 Golden is the oldest. :) Personally, P5 Royal is my favorite, but I started with it, so I have bias, haha.
Mainline Base Game: Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5 Mainline Base Game +: Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal PSP Remake: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment Fighting Game Spinoff: Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Classic Dungeon Crawler Spinoff: Persona Q, Persona Q2 Dancing/Rhythm Game: Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3: Dancing Moon light, Persona 5: Dancing Star light Dynasty Warriors Spinoff: Persona 5: Strikers Tactical RPG Spinoff: Persona 5: Tactica Full Remake: Persona 3: Reload Each Mainline Persona title can be played on it's own as each story is mostly self contained (Except Persona 1 and 2 they are mostly closely tied to each other) and the most you get from previous Persona games are small cameos or easter eggs. You can start at Persona 5 and not be confused if a character shows up without any explanation. The whole Persona cast mostly interacts more with each other in the spinoff games. The best way to play the mainline games is the Base Game + editions as it contains the full base game with additional extra content. Persona 3 Reload is a full remake of Persona 3 FES updated for modern hardware.
I've only played P3R, P4G, and P5/P5R. The games seem to each have underlying theme: P3 -> Mortality, P4 -> Rumors, P5 -> Personal Responsibility. Am really curious what theme 6 will dig into. They really know how to present a story dynamically and stylishly. Also appreciate the "just because you succeed doesn't mean things will all be sunshine and rainbows" approach the games take.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone explained it, but just in case! The dancing titles are rhythm games, starting as just a spinoff to get more money for P5 i believe, but it became a sort of tradition, so 3 and 5 gets dancing titles as well!
the first persona and persona 2 are in the same universe persona 2 eternal punishment is the continuition of the accions in innocent sin persona q and q2 are from 3ds they are in a dimention that crosses time and space, persona 3 portable introduce the chance to use a female mc changing a little the story
p3 2006 p4 2008 p5 2016 p6 tba were in the biggest gap right but i known leaker said that p6 will be announced summer 2025 and release end of 2025 (maybe as a launch title for the new switch idk) but we got metaphor which is basically the same but in another setting
I mean you're not wrong but its more than that, the butterfly is used throughout this series in just about every symbolic way they knew. The guide to the afterlife method is just one of many.
Right. All Persona Games have different themes, colors, and music style. P3 is blue, depression and accepting death, memento mori. music is japanese hip hop r&b P4 is yellow. about accepting your true self. music is jpop jrock. P5 is Red. About breaking free from society's shackles/or changing society. Jazzy music.
I tried making a video of all the Persona openings that was organized based on the main series and then spinoffs so it might be less confusing: studio.ruclips.net/user/videono-D5cY3wp8 Persona 1 had a PSP remake Persona 2 was a duology (Innocent Sin and its sequel Eternal Punishment) both having been remade for PSP Beginning with Persona 3 Atlus has issued enhanced rereleases of the main title games. For 3 it was FES, which adds extre post-game content. Persona 3 Portable was a PSP port with some extra content and finally, Persona 3 Reload was a full remake earlier this year. Persona 4 had Golden as its enhanced rerelease with extra content. Persona 5 had Royal as its enhanced rerelease with extra content. Then the spinoffs: Persona 4 Arena is a fighting game spinoff featuring Persona 3 and 4 casts. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is its sequel. Persona 4 Dancing All Night is a rhythm game that did well enough that they also did Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight and Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight a few years later featuring each games' casts. Persona Q is a dungeon crawling spinoff featuring the casts of 3 and 4. Q2 is its sequel featuring the casts of 3, 4 and 5. Persona 5 Strikers is a Dynasty Warriors style massive combat spinoff/sequel to Persona 5. Persona 5 Tactica is a tactical RPG spinoff featuring the cast of 5. Atlus loves its rereleases and spinoffs. And that's before even getting into Persona itself being a spinoff of the Megami Tensei franchise.
@@Julliangg thank god you didn't watch it lmao, you CAN'T watch that opening without getting spoiled with the most important things from P3, so yeah, really recommend you to keep that saved for when (and if) you beat Persona 3. If you want to, just play Reload, is a perfectly faithful remake, nothing's changed, moreso, it was upgraded in every way possible.
If you're really curious about the guns in P3: *spoiler alert* Those guns aren't actually guns. They're called evokers. it's use to summon their personas. a good trivia by the way, the P3 team are the only ones who can summon their personas in the real world(or atleast who are shown) and It's probably because of the evokers. Part of it is because Persona 3's Dark Hour, takes place in the real world while P4's Midnight channel and P5's Metaverse are inside a different dimensions. Though it is indeed implied that the other teams cannot summon their personas outside the tv world or the metaverse.
Persona 3 has the best story, Persona 4 has the best characters and Persona 5 has the best gameplay that's the large consensus and I agree 1 and 2 are also very good games though my favorite is Persona 4 Golden and it's my favorite game of all time with many Persona games taking spots in my top 10 games if all time it's my favorite game series of all time and just so you know the large consensus is that every spin-off game is canon and that the definitive versions (3 FES or Reload, 4 Golden and 5 Royal) are the most canon events of those stories yet again I agree some spin-offs are more clearly canon like Persona 5 Strikers which is a sequel to Persona 5 and if you're confused that there aren't any mentions of P5R exclusive characters/story events the reason is because Strikers and Royal were being made at the same time but stuff like the Persona 3 dancing game being a dream of sorts is a lot harder to tell it's canonicity however many people including myself still count it as canon because it being a dream doesn't make it not canon and there are other very spoilery reasons for P3 I won't get into also as this isn't really a spoiler every Persona game has a different story and cast of characters
Ehhh, I'm pretty firm that Persona 3 has the best story *and* characters. The characters of Persona 3 are the most realistically written in the series, so people who want overly-anime characters say they're boring compared to P4's anime archetypes.
@vincentjonesvr oh I like the main cast and some of the social link characters I just think overall P4 has the best characters and I prefer the investigation team's dynamic to SEES yes the P4 cast has its archetypes but I think they go beyond those archetypes the P3 cast isn't boring just overall there are fewer P4 characters who I dislike even the villain who I love to hate but also hate to love overall has the better written characters and Kenji is still the worst Persona character in my opinion even after his improved social link in P3R
I like that you can see how the main characters looks like a villain. That’s the purpose of this series, to make the MC looks like a bad guys but it turns out that they are all great and handsome people😂😁👍👍
yeah, in P3, the way they summon their personas is by shooting themselves. The thing about the P3 portable is that you can play the story as a girl, unlocking much more content.
P3fes adds a post-game history,p3p adds a female protagonist and the possibility to control the actions of the rest of your party,p4golden and p5royal adds new characters and expand the game history
Tbf the game hasn’t even released in the west, so calling the game crap is a bit unfair just because it’s a gacha game rather than actually playing it and giving more fair opinions
I feel like people should still experience it just because of the effort they put into creating p5 on a mobile device Like the gacha parts arent even necessary, you just use em to get more characters and stuff for your party, which is optional so yknow
Correct, Every Persona has a main color schema.
P1 - Purple
P2 - Red (which was shifted slightly to a more orange-red upon P5)
P3 - Blue

P5 is basically structured as a heist film.
ah, new persona opening reaction video. time to see the reaction to persona 3 evoker summoning
Time for the age old "WHy are they shooting themselves in the head?" "Is that a coffins?".

Why do you mock my love sickness,
That has tormented me on this same spot
So many nights, in other times?
"Kuma" is Japanese for "bear." The English releases changed the name to Teddie (as in the stuffed animal) to retain the pun.
Every persona game has its own music style
Soejima did replace Kaneko as character designer for P3,4 and 5 but he was a protege of Kaneko so the DNA is still there
I forgot how good the Persona 2 PSP openings are, they did such a great job with those
not sure what is the most unusual take, ranking 5's music below 3 and 4 (very surprising for a blind reaction but entirely valid and respectable) or thinking the Phantom Thieves look evil (okay now you've completely lost me what)
Well They are called Thieves. 🤣 But yeah first time I heard that perspective too
A lot of their costumes are based on early cinema villains (spy, punk, pirate, alien, femme fatale, James Bond villain) Fox is basically the only one who was not inspired by a law breaker.
And so on.
@@hiddenmaster6062 ohhhh that explain ls it lol thanks for that!
@somerandomdude7815 ohhh wow really? Dang I had no idea, well thank goodness it worked out in the end
@@Julliangg and that was their best desicion 😂
The reason why Teddie has 2 names is because Teddie's name in the Japanese version of some Persona games is Kuma (クマ) Kuma meaning bear, and the English versions just decided to name him Teddie after obviously teddie bears.
Would you rather they call him Arthur?
i mean, there's still one you missed, Persona 3 reload:Episode Aigis opening movie (but it kinda spoils persona 3 reload so...keep that in mind if you actually wants to play the game
Everyone seems to skip that one which makes me sad cuz i really like it
It’s nice to see you pay attention to what’s happening in the openings, like story elements that may be present
No disrespect towards anyone else reacting, but they don’t really say anything about those things happening and it doesn’t feel like a commentary reaction really 😭
P3 (original)
P3 FES - Re Release with post game content and updated main game content
P4 (original)
P4 Golden - Same as P3 FES
P5 (original)
P5 Royal - Same as P3 FES
All the other games 3-5 are spinoffs with different game genres.
Personally, P5 Royal is my favorite, but I started with it, so I have bias, haha.
This video makes it clear that Teddie has to be the final boss of the franchise
Mainline Base Game: Revelations: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment, Persona 3, Persona 4, Persona 5
Mainline Base Game +: Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 5 Royal
PSP Remake: Persona, Persona 2: Innocent Sin, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
Fighting Game Spinoff: Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax
Classic Dungeon Crawler Spinoff: Persona Q, Persona Q2
Dancing/Rhythm Game: Persona 4: Dancing All Night, Persona 3: Dancing Moon light, Persona 5: Dancing Star light
Dynasty Warriors Spinoff: Persona 5: Strikers
Tactical RPG Spinoff: Persona 5: Tactica
Full Remake: Persona 3: Reload
Each Mainline Persona title can be played on it's own as each story is mostly self contained (Except Persona 1 and 2 they are mostly closely tied to each other) and the most you get from previous Persona games are small cameos or easter eggs.
4 is truth, 2 is adolescent and rumors.
@@Tasty_Tango45 - I go with Truth on 4. Was trying to think of better term than Rumors without going into plot detail and was pulling a blank. Thanks.
1 is the literal your true self
For context persona 2s joker and the 5th games joker is a different character
Dude legit so underrated I wish u the best ❤
I wouldn't be surprised if someone explained it, but just in case!
The dancing titles are rhythm games, starting as just a spinoff to get more money for P5 i believe, but it became a sort of tradition, so 3 and 5 gets dancing titles as well!
IMO I feel like P5X is the best Persona 5 opening, and it's for a damn mobile game I can't even play
the first persona and persona 2 are in the same universe persona 2 eternal punishment is the continuition of the accions in innocent sin persona q and q2 are from 3ds they are in a dimention that crosses time and space, persona 3 portable introduce the chance to use a female mc changing a little the story
For context think as the main games such as p3,4,5 have basically expansions so we get p3fes p4golden and p5royal
Yesssssssss your playing persona!!!!
p3 2006
p4 2008
p5 2016
p6 tba
were in the biggest gap right
but i known leaker said that p6 will be announced summer 2025 and release end of 2025 (maybe as a launch title for the new switch idk)
but we got metaphor which is basically the same but in another setting
The butterfly is a symbol for death.
@hiddenmaster6062 Oh now that you mention it that makes since, I've seen this before in different games.
(Also it has like, actual lore relevance)
I mean you're not wrong but its more than that, the butterfly is used throughout this series in just about every symbolic way they knew. The guide to the afterlife method is just one of many.
Right. All Persona Games have different themes, colors, and music style.
P3 is blue, depression and accepting death, memento mori. music is japanese hip hop r&b
P4 is yellow. about accepting your true self. music is jpop jrock.
P5 is Red. About breaking free from society's shackles/or changing society. Jazzy music.
The ones with different names like P3 FES, P4 Golden, and P5 Royal are the enhanced versions with extra content and a new story arc
Brotha these games be long as hell but worth playing frrr i started with P5 back in 2019 and then P3 Reload this year 🔥
I tried making a video of all the Persona openings that was organized based on the main series and then spinoffs so it might be less confusing: studio.ruclips.net/user/videono-D5cY3wp8
Persona 1 had a PSP remake
Persona 2 was a duology (Innocent Sin and its sequel Eternal Punishment) both having been remade for PSP
Beginning with Persona 3 Atlus has issued enhanced rereleases of the main title games.
Then the spinoffs:
Persona 4 Arena is a fighting game spinoff featuring Persona 3 and 4 casts.
Persona games are great my fav is persona 4 golden
why everyone always miss Aigis Episode opening? Is it because it's a part of P3R or the video just outdated?
Outdated
@themliemnach You know what I'll go back and watch that one as well thx
It's heavy spoilers for the main story, it's better they don't watch it tbh
@@kats1646 Oh ok Gotcha
@@Julliangg thank god you didn't watch it lmao, you CAN'T watch that opening without getting spoiled with the most important things from P3, so yeah, really recommend you to keep that saved for when (and if) you beat Persona 3. If you want to, just play Reload, is a perfectly faithful remake, nothing's changed, moreso, it was upgraded in every way possible.
If you're really curious about the guns in P3:
*spoiler alert*
Those guns aren't actually guns.
Though it is indeed implied that the other teams cannot summon their personas outside the tv world or the metaverse.
yu showed that he was able to use his persona when he was getting choked out in the real world by that baby thing from mitsuo
I personally think P5 has the best everything tbh
I like that you can see how the main characters looks like a villain. That’s the purpose of this series, to make the MC looks like a bad guys but it turns out that they are all great and handsome people😂😁👍👍
yeah, in P3, the way they summon their personas is by shooting themselves. The thing about the P3 portable is that you can play the story as a girl, unlocking much more content.
I guess the guns are their way they overcome their fears and release their inner powers
32:53 My same reaction when first time saw Q2 🔥 Let me leave my S&L amazing review
P3fes adds a post-game history,p3p adds a female protagonist and the possibility to control the actions of the rest of your party,p4golden and p5royal adds new characters and expand the game history
I'm sure you'll love the Persona 3 Reload (a recent remake of Persona 3) music playlist
The video you watched missed the episode aigis opening and the persona 5 phantom X opening
Okay I need to say this: The Phantom Thieves (The ones who you said looked evil from Persona 5) are a lot of things, EVIL isn't on the list!
Persona 3 has the best story, Persona 4 has the best characters, Persona 5 has a good balance of both, but P3 and P4 are still better in each aspect.
Persona 3 is Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Persona 4 is Scooby Doo [Or Jojo part 4 if youre like that]
And Persona 5 is Code name kids next door.
Listen to real Shin Megami Tensei music
Teddy and Kuma are two different characters who look the same.
p5royal witht he best ending and the kasumi romance is still my favorite game
The phantom x is a mobile game set in the persona 5 setting. Its gacha crap and i dont suggest looking into it much
tbf p5 is already crap sooo yeah
@@MattTheHer0that take is just nah😬
Tbf the game hasn’t even released in the west, so calling the game crap is a bit unfair just because it’s a gacha game rather than actually playing it and giving more fair opinions
I feel like people should still experience it just because of the effort they put into creating p5 on a mobile device
Like the gacha parts arent even necessary, you just use em to get more characters and stuff for your party, which is optional so yknow
Yeah cause you’ve played the game right? We should totally take your opinion you who knows so much about the game
Please react to all Warriors Orochi intro
They REALLY milked persona after 5. Felt a lot more soulless
Yea no hard disagree msuic slaps hard and animation is sublime
4 is the most milked game wtf are you babbling about?
@@xXFoiXx don't they each got 7 games total? Or are the lists missing some?
There are 7 Persona 4 games literally what are you going on about
The only people that complain don't event play the games so I really don't know why you guys care so much
