For me, the Persona Q games are my favorite. They are crossover games that combine the cast of 3,4, and 5 in two adventures. And I think you should check out the battle themes in each game since they are all bangers too, my personal favorite being Wiping All Out from Persona 3 Portable

Personally I really love the original Persona 4 opening but the original P5 'ice skating' one is great and I love the sudden shift from 'cute fun times' to 'decapitated rabbit doll and bleeding eyes' in Persona Q's and Strikers is also really nice, and the P3 FES opening is was the first time I ever really enjoyed that kinda hiphop-esc rap style of music so... Yeah!
It's really hard to choose a definitive fav without second guessing myself. So much good stuff~ XD
Edit: Of the actual Persona games to play I'm even less sure which is my favorite than the openings. I did really love the 'unique to that version' events in Persona 3 FES though, Persona 4 helped me through some hard real life stuff I was dealing with to the point I played through it multiple times, and Persona 5 Royal just has the BEST UI and style to it so... Yeah. They're all fantastic~ XD
2nd Edit: All Persona music is amazing but I LOVE the OSTs for Persona 5 Royal and Persona Q2. The former just has the best jazzy stuff I crave and the later is so underratedit drives me nuts (though my fav 'track' in PQ2 is HIKARI with the in game cutscene it plays with so. That's both spoiler as hell and also says a lot about my music tastes I guess so... Yeah XDDD)
You 100% need to watch the Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 reload openings. Oh! And the anime openings if you haven't already

26:30 so a cool thing about this game is that Persona 3 and 4 have different singers and different vibes for their songs and since this game, which is called Persona Q, is a crossover of the two games, The game has a battle theme that has two different versions, one for the Persona 3 cast and the other is for the Persona 4 cast. In the dancing games they made a new version of that song that combines both versions into one and it sounds really good

There's actually still a couple you missed! Persona 5 Tactica and Persona 3 Reload openings came out after this video was uploaded. There's also a few anime openings you could check out. Persona 3 had a single movie opening, there was one called Persona Trinity that I don't know much about. Persona 4 has at least 3 anime openings, 2 for the original and at least 1 I know of for the Golden anime. The endings are amazing as well, especially the first one called Beauty of Destiny. Persona 5 also has a couple openings and endings, the openings are unironically better than the anime itself lol. If you want to check those out, that'd be cool! When Persona first started the vision for the series was very different. It was originally an offshoot of an offshoot of the Shin Megami series, which is still big in Japan. In fact, they're still loosely related (all the monsters in Persona were in Shin Megami first). It was only around Persona 3 when the franchise really grew bold enough to become its own series of full-effort titles and embraced its unique features. Now Persona does very well both in and out of Japan, especially Persona 5, and has a style and themes all its own.

Persona 4 Arena and Arena Ultimax), and rereleases with more content (ex. Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal). The REASON that persona 1 and 2 seemed more “serious” and less “anime” was because Persona is a SPIN-OFF SERIES of “Shin Megami Tensei” (otherwise known as SMT; 5 came out on switch btw), and SMT is a MUCH more serious and dark toned series. Interesting thing though is that Persona would eventually be much BIGGER than SMT ever has been/probably ever will be. So now the spin-off series (persona) is more popular😅

    36:55 Talk about an understatement.
Persona 5 Royal is objectively the best game in the entire extended franchise, possibly the best JRPG of all time, and up there with some of the greatest greats of all time.

Strongly disagree, mostly just cus the game is kinda unbalanced difficulty wise. P5 def has the best gameplay tho, that can’t be denied, as it takes from the entire franchise and refines the new combat. But I can’t say it’s objectively the best when it’s got so many pitfalls in other areas, like character writing, storytelling, etc.
I don’t think there is an “objectively best game”, cuz every game excels in one way the others do not.

the reason it looks like theyre shooting themself in the persona 3 openings is because they summon their personas through an evoker, which is a gun-looking device. this also ties into the fact that persona 3's main story theme is the acceptance of death as a part of life, shown with the saying "memento mori" which roughly means "remember, you will die"

  • @gravajaumbros
    @gravajaumbros Год назад +8

I know at least one other person already mentioned it, but there are some openings you're missing because they're newer than this video. The only game opening for a game that's already out is Persona 5 Tactica, but they have released the opening for the as of yet unreleased game Persona 3 Reload. Both are pretty amazing. Tactica uses a different art style than any of the other games (though it's relatively similar to Persona Q and Persona Q2). And 3 Reload is just absolute fire as it's the newest and it's a main series game, so they went all out on it.
Also, yeah, while Persona 1 (Revelations: Persona) and Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment have multiple openings because they've been re-released, it's once you hit Persona 3 that you start seeing all the spin off titles which give you a lot of openings for each number. Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5 are all base games that had a sort of updated version with extra content added in Persona 3 FES, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal. They also each got rhythm game spin-offs, Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight, Persona 4 Dancing All Night, and Persona 5 Dancing in Starlight (and while all technically canon, the dancing game for 4 is the only one that really had a plot to speak of, which was honestly way better of a plot than I expected from a dancing spin-off). Then as part of Persona 4, but also with lots of ties to Persona 3 you have Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Arena Ultimax. Persona 3 and 4 crossover in Persona Q, while 3, 4, and 5 crossover in the sequel Persona Q2. And then you have the Persona 5 spin-offs, Persona 5 Strikers (or Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers, same game) which is a Musou style game like Dynasty Warriors, and Persona 5 Tactica, a tactics game along the lines of Fire Emblem or X-Com or Mario Vs Rabbids. There's also Persona 5 The Phantom X (or just Persona 5 X) but it's a mobile game that's not available in English as of yet (not sure if it's even going to be) and I don't know if it has a proper opening. And then of course you have the upcoming Persona 3 Reload, which is a remake of Persona 3 (interestingly, while it will have new features of its own, it will not include the extra story that was in Persona 3 FES nor the option to play as a female protagonist that was in Persona 3 Portable, which was a P3 remake for the PSP).
For the most part you can jump into the series in any number you want. Like Final Fantasy, you aren't using the same characters and continuing the same storyline from previous games. Obviously though, don't try to play a spin-off before you play the main game for that number entry if you don't want to feel lost. However, you can (and probably should) go ahead and skip the base game of 3, 4, and 5 for 3FES (or 3 Reload when it comes out), 4 Golden, and 5 Royal, as they have all the story of the base game plus more. The games do all take place in Japan in approximately the same year that the original game of the number came out (as in Persona 5 series takes place around 2016/2017 when P5 came out, and even though Tactica came out in 2023 it still takes place in 2017). There will be little references and easter eggs to previous games, but nothing that you need to know for the game you're playing. (For example, you can see posters around in P5 that advertise music made by a character from P4, but it's not important to the story.)
Personal recommendation for where to start? Persona 5 Royal. Persona 5 is the most culturally relevant, right now, and has lots of quality of life stuff that previous titles do not have. (Particularly notably is that even if you prefer the story and characters of Persona 4 over Persona 5, I doubt anyone will argue that Persona 5 had WAY more interesting dungeons.) If you wait to play until after Persona 3 Reload comes out then you might want to start there instead, but really I'd just go for whichever one has characters that look more interesting for you first. Persona 5 also has the advantage that if you want more after you finish it then it has the most spin-offs to enjoy, but whether or not the spin-offs are worthwhile is another debate entirely. (Personally I've enjoyed all the spin-offs I've played so far, but I don't blame others who are less pleased.)
So, uh, tl;dr - Yes, you're missing out not playing Persona, and you should play it.

Sometimes you will see characters from one game appear in another and in fact theres a TV broadcast documenting the arrest of the villain of Persona 4 in Persona 5.

@@MakeItLookEZ Happy to lend the knowledge assist! I hope you find your way into playing the games some time. Especially the recent ones are dope. There's a lot of titles in this compilation but I can help you out.
The numbered ones are mainline (with Persona 2 being divided across two games)
Persona Q and Persona Q2 are side games that involve characters from multiple persona games.
The persona dancing games are just rhythm games because the songs are so catchy in every game.
Ultimax is the fighting game for persona 3 and 4
Strikers and Tactica are spin offs of 5 which are canon to that games story.
Reload, Golden, and Royal are the "enhanced" editions of personas 3, 4, and 5 respectively and are the preferred way to play those games.
And Persona 3 has like four different versions for some reason, I can't explain it.

just a little bit of extra info not directly related to Persona but while Persona is a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensei there are actually multiple other spin-offs besides just Persona that have various levels of popularity even if not close to the levels Persona has reached with them being Devil Summoner,Digital Devil Saga,Devil Survivor and Devil Children(not many of the Devil Children games officially released in the west) even released in the west(with a couple other spin-offs that never officially made it to the west) . i personally really like Persona but also like the other spin-offs a lot also.

Part of the reason the graphics and character models are at the same quality as in 3. Quick and dirty pronunciation guide for Japanese:
All words are constructed around the 5 vowels:
    A, I, U, E, O
They're either solo vowels, or combined with non-vowel characters to make each sound in Japanese.
The pronunciation of them almost never changes (there are very rare cases)
A is always pronounced like "Ah"
I is always pronounced like "ee" in "see"
U is like "oo" in "food"
E is like "ay" in "hay"
O like the o in "open"
    So, Rise is "Ree-Say"
    Chie is "Chee-ay"
It's not 100% accurate, but close enough to sound out most words.
There's some other stuff like when a U sound is soft( like in Yosuke, where it would sound more like "Yo-Skay" instead of "Yo-Sue-Kay", or compound sounds like "Ryo" (ri+yo), but those are the basics.

Each has its fans and no like Kingdom Hearts you do not have to play all the side games for story.
As for where beginners should start is 3 ( fes or reload for 3 ) - 5 ( base or royal for 5 is great ), and yes most modern consoles have these releases. 3 to 5 have life sim elements, so hang out with your buddies then fight evil monsters with a Persona.
1 and 2 try to be more like SMT ( the og big bro to Persona ), and yes SMT is fire. Difficult but fire, ao honestly you can't go wrong with which one you pick.
3 - About dealing with death and pushing back against fate.
4 - About pursuing the truth no matter how tough or painful it is.
5 - About rebeling against society's unjust-ness, and finding friends that have been labeled bad by society.

The original persona 1, persona 2, and it’s direct sequel persona 2 innocent sin
We’re a lot more dower In their storytelling Because it was still more less a spin off to the Shin Megami Tensei series.
It wasn’t until persona 3 it essentially became its own series entirely and took on more of the school life social aspects that are more talked about in 3, 4, and 5.
Truthfully, I’m hoping at some point in the future Atlas decides to try and re-create the first 3 persona games with better combat controls.
I’ve tried playing the first game, but it’s very clunky and requires wasting turns to position your people so they can use persona to hit your enemies.

The series has indeed changed a LOT. Each one has a different style and themes. Read ahead if you're interested.
P1 is quite... uhhh dated. Interesting ideas, but kinda flat and experimental, a bit awkward to play. Themes: Self, Escapism, Reality, Ego.
P2 is like 1's ideas injected into two brilliant games of a duology. Great characters and balls-to-the-walls story, especially for the time.
The gameplay can be a bit rough in each parts of P2, but is very charming IMO. Themes: Sin, Punishment, Responsibility, Adulthood, Rumors, Memory.
P3 is a big jump forward, changing a lot but having deeply personal characters and plot. It's quite bold and thematically deep, even if not always *fun*.
It pioneered much of the series staples, but has some pretty dated elements to it that are contested among fans. Themes: Death, Sacrifice, Life, Grief, Support, Mental Illness.
P4 is very popular, but is a step towards anime-styling. Some love it for that, and the feeling of comfy friendships in a small town.
Others hate it for the simpler themes and ideas, and the darkness of P1-3 compared to it. Themes: Truth, Friendship, Reputation, Media, Apathy, Lies, Acceptance.
P5 is the big one, the one that has broken the series into the big league. It easily has the best gameplay and presentation, and has a massive amount of content.
It's got stellar music, quite charming characters, and fixes many issues from P3 and P4. A bit uneven in story and characters. Themes: Rebellion, Justice, Conformity, Abuse, Law, Society, Change.
