    The most iconic moment of Gilmore Girls is when Luke pushes Jess into the lake tbh.

    What about when Jess confronts Rory about dropping out of Yale? I mean you could clearly see that he's got a great character development and it was also thanks to him that Rory returned to Yale.

      "Jess brought out the worst in Rory" they say, completely forgetting that it was Logan who turned her into a completely different person later on, and how Jess actually brought out the best in Rory at the end.

    • @Elisheval
      @Elisheval 8 лет назад +17

      Absolutely. one of the moments you truly empathise and sat hey, rory doesn't always have the right answer. She's still just a kid.

    • @Vohalika
      @Vohalika 8 лет назад +35

      *****
      No, I'd say we didn't forget that, as it doesn't exactly matter for the point we're making here. Season 3 and 4 Jess fucks up a lot, and this incident is definitely at the top of the list. That's actually kind of the point of the narrative there; when they meet again in season 6, Jess has changed a lot for the better, Rory so much for the worse she is hardly recognizable anymore, and that contrast between the turns their lives have taken, and the fact that Jess of all people can call her out on this, is what ultimately sets Rory back on track.

    • @Vohalika
      @Vohalika 8 лет назад +27

      Look, no one said Logan actively changed Rory, but he did bring out the worst in her. His original point about her needing to loosen up was pretty good, but within a very short amount of time, the amount of power he has over Rory is frankly unsettling. She has acted stupid in love, as we all have, but Logan is the only guy on the show who has her get drunk and be reduced to a tearful mess before they're even really dating. The girl who quit Spring Break in season 4 turns into quite the party girl for seasons 5-7. She hangs around with the same stuck up privileged kids she couldn't stand at Chilton who throw her a party for getting her first felony conviction.
      Hell, I think the best example is when Logan tries to steal from Emily and Richard and Rory just lets him until Lorelai steps in. And the scenes in season 6, first with her therapist ("how long until he doesn't love me again?") and then later with Jess, when she has the breakdown over loving Logan too much to leave him even after he sort of cheated on her (they were on a break, I know)...
      I'm not saying it's necessarily Logan's fault, but he is just not good for Rory, and she is at her worst emotionally while she's with him. That's no one's fault, and Logan isn't doing it on purpose, it just shows how immature Rory is with her feelings and relationships even this late into the series.
      ...Well. It's not like her parents set the best examples there.
      Also, I fully agree that it wouldn't have made sense for Rory to drop everything for Jess when he yelled at her in season 6, and also the making out a few episodes later... Well, sure, there was chemistry there, but eh, I didn't like it much, either.
      Rory's relationship with Jess was... tempestuous. They were pretty good together when they were good, but with all the shit Jess had going on and pulled on her, yeah. The good parts weren't around for long. But the thing is, the show acknowledged that theirs was not the best of relationships. Every character on the show was resigned to Rory just going through her bad boy phase, and hell, Rory herself seemed like that occasionally; fully aware of what she had, and as such, she was never quite as vulnerable with Jess. He certainly never managed to tear her down as completely as her ups and downs with Logan did.
      And yet after a few disapproving remarks and glances from Lorelai, that just.. Never get acknowledged with Logan. It's frustrating.
      then again, the show also pretends that Dean was the perfect first boyfriend, and didn't have pretty troubling anger issues and a mean tendency to guilt trip Rory about things. He wasn't the most ideal guy even before the whole cheating on his wife thing happened.
      Rory overall just has a shitty taste in guys. Jess is my favorite, mostly because he has his own narrative arc, while Dean and Logan only matter in Rory's stories, and because he eventually got over being an asshole, while the narrative just pretended Dean and Logan were pretty much perfect (when they weren't cheating).
      And I for one am extremely annoyed with all three of them returning for the revival. I mean. It's been 8 years. Rory is 30 now. I sure as hell don't want to relive my high school or college relationships when I am 30. So I'm all for her ending up single or with a completely different person. I'd even be okay with Logan, if the relationship isn't as toxic as it was for the majority of the show, and Rory keeps a good distance to his family and the kind of lifestyle expected of a Huntzberger wife. That's just not the kind of ending I'd want for her, but with Logan himself I'd be okay if it's well executed. I still prefer Jess for the character development he had and the additional narrative connections he brings to the table, but a relationship with Logan without all the stuff that made my skin crawl would be fine. Anyone but Dean, really.

    One of my favorite moments is when Richard is out of town and Lorelai realizes how lonely Emily must be when Richard travels, so she gets her a DVD player. That scene where Emily is badgering her about how on earth they're going to hook it up while Lorelai assures her she can figure it out, and then Emily says she has no use for it but gets all excited looking at the DVDs that Lorelai has brought her, it just makes me so happy. They didn't always get along, but Lorelai loved her mom, and this was a rare moment of just getting to watch her show it with no ulterior motive.

      That should have been in there somewhere. Emily's takedown of Shira was amazing and Richard's confrontation with Mitchum was equally awesome, with Richard even about to punch Mitchum. Just shows how much they care about their granddaughter. And the look on Richard's face when he watches Rory give her speech at the episode is a testament to Edward Herrmann's acting.

    I'm rewatching the show for the 10th time, and I just came across a moment that I didn't even remember loving so much. After Chris finds out Sherri's pregnant and leaves Lorelei and Rori again and neither of them are speaking to him, he shows up at Friday night dinner. Emily and Lorelei had been fighting ever since Chris left because of course she wanted them to end up together, and blames Lorelei - but when Chris comes in yelling and upsets Rori and Lorelei's explaining that he's hurting her by doing this Emily comes in and tells him to leave right now & I feel like anytime Emily or Richard stood up for Lorelei, like against Chris's parents or whenever, it makes such an impact.

    One of my top Gilmore moments is on the episode where Richard Gilmore has a heart attack. That precious moment between father and daughter when Richard wakes up to find Lorelai in tears watching him sleep. 2. The episode where Rory moves into her dorm for the first time and asks Lorelai to spend the night and they end up throwing a party. Inviting all of the girls on Rory's floor.
    3. Rory and Lorelai's road trip to Harvard after Lorelai cancelled her wedding with Max.

    Any true Gilmore Girl fan would know 1/2 if not 2/3rds of this is wrong. What should have gone down was:
    (1) Jess confronts Rory for dropping out of Yale
    (2) the Goodbye scene under the tent that Luke made for Rory, where you see the whole town showing their love
    (3) The scene in the pilot where Lorelai is running around in her Daisy Dukes, because she forgot to pick up her dry cleaning
    (4) Rory dying Lane's hair
    (5) Kissing Dean in the supermarket and then running with corn starch
    (6) Rory and Jess first kiss (ok you had that one)
    (7) Rory and Lorelai's grads (ok agree with you there)
    (8) dont know why, but, I thought of the scene where Luke gives Lorelai the necklace , so sweet of him
    (9) The scene in the hospital when Lorelai's dad has a heart attack and Luke keeps looking down, and Lorelai says to Luke "So I said you look good. We're not in 5th grade! 'You look good', big deal...stop staring at me",
    (10) When Rory tells Dean, "I love you, you idiot", after they had broken up the first time
    there are more, but how many other GG fans agree?

      I don't understand how people say they were perfect together.. What was so perfect about them? Was it when he never called when he said he would or when he lied to Rory and took his anger out on her? Or maybe it was when he left twice without saying goodbye or when he said I love you and took off instantly? Or maybe when he showed up out of nowhere and tried to get her to drop out of Yale and run away with him?

    • @Katelovescbj
      @Katelovescbj 8 лет назад +32

      Yes those things were problematic but I can point to more and worse things about Logan and Dean. It's the fact that they never really lost eachother. They both always came back to eachother and they grew together. Although they were apart they still grew together. They got their shit together and it would only make sense. They both had their fair share of immature and angsty moments but it's about how they grew from them

      If you can point to more and worse things about Dean and Logan, please do. I've provided examples to my point, I'd love to hear yours. And how exactly did they grow together and always come back to each other?
      Jess was only ever in Stars Hollow twice after leaving and it was because of his car and his mother's wedding. The first time, he ran away from Rory each time he saw her and bolted right after saying he loved her. The second time he didn't see her at all because she wasn't in town. He was never there for/bc of her. And with his car, he was in town involuntarily, stuck in a situation that was beyond his control and not his choice. And when he inevitably did run into her, he abandoned her the second his car was fixed and he could get away. He did show up at Yale twice but the first time it was to get Rory to run away with him bc he was in his feelings about her after his mother's wedding (Rory said no) and the second time was to yell at her for dropping out (even though he previously tried to pull her out). She saw him in NY once but, again, she never stayed for him or continued a relationship beyond that point.
      They have crossed paths a handful of times since they broke up, yes. But they never "came back to each other" in the way that I imagine you intend it - it sounds like you're saying there was some unyielding bond between them, some force pushing/pulling them together, some strong emotion on both sides that made each of them still want the other. But that's just not the case. Jess saw her no more than a few times over the years. Rory never came back to him. She never felt compelled to go back to him or get him back or reunite with him. She wasn't pining for him or being drawn to him or missing him. She rejected his new york plan, turned down the chance to be with him again. Jess finally grew up and got his shit together, good for him. But how did they grow together?

      People say Dean became bad when Jess first showed up because the writers tried to cram Jess in, but Dean being a whiny, clingy, guilt tripping, insecure jerk with anger management issues has actually been consistent over the first two seasons. It's basically his entire character. He gets jealous at the drop of a head, is hard on Rory about ANYTHING that goes wrong even if it's outside of her control, and he yells. He yells so much. And a guy this tall yelling at a tiny girl is just always a bit unsettling.
      His worst episode which doesn't involve Jess, Tristan or Logan is probably the one where he gets mad at Rory for not being ready to say "I love you", which, excuse you, is a big fucking deal to say to a 16 year old after 3 months of dating, especially one with no good relationship role models in her life. But what annoyed me the most was the episode in which Rory attends a debutante ball because it's important to her grandmother. Everyone goes along and makes fun of it, except for Dean, who spends the entire episode moping about how unfair it is that he has to wear gloves and a bow tie and how Rory owes him for this for life.
      He also shows no appreciation or understanding for what Rory is most passionate about. He likes to watch her read more than he is willing to read himself to maybe have a conversation with her. That's something that's always been there, even with season 1-3 Dean, which most people agree was the "perfect" first boyfriend. Ew. No. He was a realistic first boyfriend, no question, but he was, overall, not an actually good person or match for Rory, ever. So when Jess came along and could connect with Rory on an intellectual level that made her fall head over heels for him and made Dean incredibly insecure, that was realistic, too.
      Well, and season 4 and 5 Dean was just a giant jerk and an "oh god why" moment summed up neatly in one character. The most telling thing about him is probably, ignoring the entire cheating on his wife thing, when Rory tries to talk to him about what she does at the paper and he looks bored. A few episodes later, he tells Luke their relationship didn't work out because Rory, just like Lorelai, is from a completely different income bracket, or social class as Logan charmingly put it in his introduction. He blames their socio-economic differences instead of the fact that they just don't have any common ground or interests or ANYTHING. Not even good chemistry. And then tells Luke he and Lorelai will never work out because of their own socio-economic differences. What a jerk.
      ...Hey, does that mean one can reasonably blame Dean for the break up after the wedding vow renewal? Because he and his talk about class got into Luke's head?

      It only worked because he said it at a time when she was already on the path to going back to school. It wasn't because of him or what he said, it was because she was already ready to go back. Sometimes you will follow your heart and this is the instance Rory did that. She loves Dean and she didn't think, she just followed what her heart was telling her. The people who are so into morals may not understand, but I can see why she did what she did💞.

      @@cibazyx4138 I'm confused I'm only on season 4, Why is it so bad that she eventually sleeps with dean? realistically people have sex much younger in the U.S. Most girls lose their virginity by 16 and the fact that she stayed a virgin throughout high school is both uncommon and cool. I'm kind of annoyed about the fact how the show makes a big deal about it though and thought maybe it was just because thats how the writers wanted it but WHETHER or not she had sex at 16 or 20 doesn't make her a good or bad person. As long as your responsible and making good decisions such as using a condom. There is no shame in having sex. I don't think the morals being taught are cool here. I would understand is she had some type of religious obligation but she doesn't. A lot of people don't date someone for 2 years like she did with dean and not have sex. It was her choice but she wouldn't be any less great if she did chose to have sex.

    • @cibazyx4138
      @cibazyx4138 5 лет назад +3

      @@therealtruthhurtsz Hi Maryam! Just saw your comment🌹 Yeah, having sex with someone you love, whether it be @ 16 or older, doesn't make you a good or bad person. That's exactly my point with my comment earlier. There's something called "the morality police" in society. They are people who are very judgmental. If you've seen Amy Sherman-Palladino talking about how Rory is going to lose her virginity, you'll understand why what happened (her first time making love) did happen when it did. She said the Warner bosses were asking her why Rory, who is already in college, isn't having sex yet? Amy, the creator, wanted her to have that experience with her first boyfriend, Dean. When that guy told Rory that his marriage is breaking up and, indeed, after all these years he still loves Rory deeply, the time was just right and it finally happened. Well, some people are so mad at Rory for doing it with Dean because although he said he isn't happy in his marriage (eventually, he did end that marriage), he was still married at the time. My point is sometimes, you can be the smartest person ever, but the heart wins anyway. Let's be empathetic/understanding. That's what is needed, instead of being mean or worse, thinking that they will never ever do a thing like that because they are such good people. Baloney!! I hope you're enjoying GG. It's really a very good show. I personally love Rory with Logan, her college boyfriend. They started out a little rocky, but later, they turned out perfect for each other. The last season of the regular series(S.7) wasn't written by the Palladinos, but it was still okay. Season 8 on Netflix was written by the Palladinos again. The Rogans (fans of Rory and Logan) are hoping there will be another season to finally see them together💕

      I think the point was that everyone of these relationships were in some ways good and in some ways bad for her. Rory started out pretty much as a perfect kid but thru her relationships with men, we find out the imperfect side of Rory. Which is completely natural and realistic, I mean even the most “perfect” of people we know have flaws. I don’t think Rory would have been truly happy with any of them which is exactly why the “finale” of Gilmore Girls didn’t really feel finished and the Netflix revival of the show for one last season just ended up making the whole new “finale” even worse. It would’ve been perfect up until that one last moment, and those who have seen it know what I’m talking about.

    3. sookie's "are you pregnant" to jackson on the lawn showed us what MM will be later.
    4. Luke sits at the bench with the three little ballerina girls watching him on christopher and lorelai party.
    5. Richard's proudest moment in the club with rory when he realizes how lucky he is.
    6. Emily telling richard about the leg and that he would apologize to rory no matter what!!! cause she wasn't going to lose her too.
    7. Lorelai's face when she realized rory was leaving yale and moving to the grandparents after lorelai and her parents made a plan.
    8. Rory enters lorelai's room realizes she is crushed and crying and just hugs her in bed.
    9. Emily realizes that trix's money to rory will mean they will never see lorelai again and tells Richard she will never come back.

    A couple of extras:
    - Emily's takedown of Sheila Huntzberger;
    - Friday family fight night;
    - the look shared between Lorelai and her dad the first time he has a heart attack;
    - Luke pushing Jess into the lake (sorry but he deserved it!);
    - Luke building the tent to save the party and the "I just want to see you happy" to Lorelai;
    - Paris' questioning Logan at the door after the Bridesmaid saga (personally I break out into a fit no matter how many times I see that).

    I watched this show as a young boy (ages 4 to 11 during the original run we watched) with my amazing Mom (who was a single parent) every Tuesday, every episode in syndication. AND NOW THAT I'M OLDER SOME OF THESE MOMENTS MAKE ME CRY. This show single-handedly taught young people the importance of pop culture. I dread the day a future girlfriend or spouse asks me to watch the series over again with them and I bawl my eyes out at certain moments that I didn't fully grasp as a kid. Then I'll say I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING because that's what our culture teaches about emotions.
    But for real Gilmore Girls is one of the best shows all time. It was so ahead of it's time and it can never be replicated or replaced. I'm just glad that I have an amazing Mom that decided to share it with me.

    I would also have included the scene when Lorelai and Luke team up to "destroy" the annyoing bells
    and at last I would have included the scene when Luke, Jess and T.J. get ready for T.J.'s wedding to Liz

      For me Logan and Rory’s love story was the best part. She should have married him and lived in Palo Alto. She could have worked at the newspaper or written a book anywhere, and she would have continued being the inspiration for Logan’s life. So sad.
