    I LOVE that look of shock on Loralie's when Emily proudly pats her on the shoulder, assuring her she is going to be just fine. Loralie is shocked because she has wanted this approval ALL HER LIFE, but tragically it took her father having a heart attack and Loralie having to show Emily how to manage Richard's affairs.

    No because season 7 is easily nearly everyone's least favorite season (including mine), but there are some moments here and there that are decent enough to get through. This is one of those scenes, in my personal opinion, because this was one of those rare moments where Lorelai and Emily are getting along. I loved Emily's support here, and Lorelai really needed to hear this from her. I'm just glad that the show ended on a high note because I didn't want season 6 to be the last season with the way it ended because it was obvious that it couldn't be the end. Despite the fact that this final 7th season didn't have Amy Sherman-Palladino as a showrunner, I'm glad it happened because they were able to wrap up a few things. (I still pretend the revival doesn't exist, by the way! I consider AYITL a reunion special event in honor of Edward Herrmann because his tribute was lovely ❤)

      Season 7 was actually an improvement to me.. and finding out that the show runners were different explained why.

      @EmphaticNod 29 дней назад +8

      @@citydweller99 Same here. Seasons 6 and 7 were the two worst seasons by far, but 7 is a little bit better for me, and I think it was because of scenes like this. The dialogue quality dipped without ASP at the helm, but you could tell she was upset around the time of season 6 and the ill will she had (justified or not) was sort of reflected in the storylines. In season 7, you can see that the writers were doing their best to keep to the spirit of the series... The dialogue wasn't as great, but the emotional bits still hit because there were still people in the writing room who _cared_ about the characters and wanted the show to end on a good note.

Looking back, I find myself enjoying season 7 more than season 6 because season 6 with the rift between Lorelai and Rory as well as the whole April stuff ruined some of the core relationships of the show! Im sick and tired of everyone's harshness toward Emily. I know the Emily's of this world and let me tell you that they are a lioness. They will fight for their children to have the best life with every ounce of life force that they have and its all out of love. From the time a baby comes into this world a mother plans and teaches and has hopes for that child's life....and some parents like Emily just dont want to see their child as an adult. Think about it. Lorelei shut her parents out of her and Rory's life for over a decade so Lorelei and Rory grew up while the distance prevented Emily from seeing them grow up and sharing in it so Emily kept holding onto wanting to mother Lorelei and its not bad....its certainly uncomfortable for Rory and Lorelei...but still wanting to mother Lorelei is actually a sign of both deep hurt and deep love. This scene is one of the first times Emily comforts Lorelei as an adult daughter not as a mother-child. Its very touching because its a HUGE shift for Emily and it bodes well that as Emily and Lorelei continue to age that the gap / distance is going to grow smaller. Sometimes it takes trauma to step our of our routine. I think its the Hindus or the Buddhists who believe life is a dream and that we spend most of our day mindlessly in a routine. It takes a trauma to break the routine and then when the routine is broken we wake up and we see....we have been acting as if everything is the same because routine makes us comfortable...we wake up and see all the things that have changed and we start to deal with all the new things we see....

      They were messed up because Amy Sherman-Palladino left them all in a messed up place before she left the show following season 6; maybe even intentionally sabotaging it, one could speculate... You can tell the season 7 writers were running themselves ragged trying to resolve all the annoying conflicts she threw in, and I imagine it was very hard. Honestly, I think they did the best they could with the scraps they were given. Season 7 feels different, but at least it has a decent ending that doesn't feel too manic and rushed.

    Season 7 gets crapped on so much but this is actually a really nuanced conversation about marriage vs singlehood. Emily and Richard are so co-dependent on each other, one struggles to exist without the other (hence the canoe reference). Whereas Lorelai and Christopher don’t work in tandem at all.
