There was one episode where Lorelai mentioned something about her parents going to London for Christmas to see Gran. Didn't take her along. Maybe I'm mis-remembering it, but it does show how 'connected' these people are to each other. I suppose that Emily would have wanted to shield Lorelai from her grandmother, but chosing a horrible relative to your kid who's still a kid?
And from my understanding of the upper class, they are a lot less formal with people they know. And I'm saying this as someone who has seen it happen, so it seems like tric is very stuck in her time

richard allowing his horrible mom to disrespect his wife and daughter in his own home is so embarrassing. he's a grown man and can't even stand up to her. the fact that he even laughed and went along with the endless unwarranted criticism is worse.
well he gets so much shit form them that he probably enjoys it. Plus, he was from the generation where parents were very authoritative figures. You don't disrespect them. As she is he matriarch if he upsets her he could be cut off from other family events or even the will.
Emily Gilmore is an entitled Karen who treats people horribly so if someone wants to dish her a little dose of disrespectful humiliation, she has more than got it coming

Long answer: Lorelai ran away from home when she was sixteen when she was pregnant with Rory. She didn't maintain much contact with her family prior to the Chillton tuition deal. Trix lives in England, so she probably wasn't around for any of Lorelai and Rory's already rare meet-ups.
Real answer: If you were Lorelai, would you want to keep in contact with Trix?

I’m guessing that when Richard, Trix, and Emily had visits most of them were in London not Hartford. Even if Trix did come to the United States chances are she was in places like New York or Martha’s Vineyard. Again Richard and Emily would go to her. As someone said earlier Lorelei didn’t have much contact with her parents for a long time. They only saw each other at Christmas andEaster. Some years Lorelei probably came up with excuses not to go “ We have a huge event at the Inn”. In the pilot Richard made a comment about how unusual it was for him to see Lorelei on a day when banks were open.
@@seanp2871 Well technically Lorelai didn’t run away the night of Rory’s birth. She went to the hospital alone which her parents found out because she left a note. Lorelai then stayed at her parents for about a year. After that is when she ran away for good and ended up on Mia’s doorstep in Stars Hollow.

Being a family tyrant isn’t funny or er, endearing. It is an exhibition of a poor upbringing and unacceptable bad manners. My grandparents were distinguished people who always behaved with superb and gracious good manners and were, in consequence loved, adored and greatly respected by the whole family. Watching this makes me realise how extremely fortunate I was.
Why call her the Third when she's the First?

Dialog and dynamic between characters were superb 👌
The comedy
Its a unique series ahead of its time
It has a large ensemble cast with some diversity
The dialogue was also good plus that iconic theme song
