FAQ:
Q - Battlescape: Why didn't you box strat the lids and just wait them out?
A: I had zero practise with it and didn't want to risk losing the mission due to a mistake, so I took my chances and booked dit. The price was high, and I probably wouldn't have suffered so many losses had I just gone faster in general.
Q - Battlescape: What perks to pick/Why not snapshot?
A: In general I don't think perk choice is that important in XCOM, in EW they're generally balanced between eachother enough to ensure that most choices are viable. That said, in I/I there are definitely a few mandatory perks, and I'll cover the early game (Corporal, Sergeant) ones here:
•Heavy - Corporal: Bullet Swarm. First-action shots not ending the turn is huge. You can shoot twice for up to a 25% chance increase in landing at least one shot, you can shoot and reload to offset the LMG's smaller ammo pool, you can shoot and hunker/grenade/move. Holotargeting is nice but you're getting +10% on one shot, two if you're lucky, that's nothing compared to extra action economy.
•Heavy - Sergeant: Suppression in the early game, both later. If this was Classic, I'd say it's a huge tossup. On Classic, the 4 damage from Shredder Rocket is enough to kill Thin Men, Seekers AND Floaters, which basically means you have a second rocket throughout all of April and May. However, since you can't oneshot with Shredder on Impossible, the next best thing is being able to lock down aliens with Suppression, -30 to aim may not seem like much but it'll turn a 45% shot into a 15% which is absolutely massive. Later on, Shredder Rocket becomes good again as alien HP pools become so big that the shredder debuff starts to matter while aim gets so high that Suppression becomes less effective.
•Sniper - Corporal: Squadsight. Snap Shot is secretly really good, It's just not squadsight though, and if you want to minimize risks you go for the simpler, more consistent and safer option. I would recommend Snap Shot on any other difficulty but when squaddie Snipers are almost completely worthless compared to other clases, anything that puts the more experienced snipers in danger is not a good idea.
•Assault - Sergeant: Lightning Reflexes on at least one assault. You want at least one LR assault because at some point you're going to get pinned down with a mech overwatch and someone is going to die if you can't run it safely. Close and Personal in Enemy Within is very, very good and grants Assaults a second shot per turn but only at dangerously close ranges. C&P VS LR is a matter of personal preference on each individual assault but not running LR on at leat one A-team Assault is just asking for trouble.
•Support - Corporal: Sprinter. Covering Fire is just flat out kinda bad, Overwatch activating on movement can catch offscreen enemies or ones that are in good cover, but if you're shooting an enemy when they attack, you might as well have taken the shot on your own turn since cover bonuses and the overwatch aim penalty still apply. Yeah, it combos nicely with Sentinel but that's a Colonel perk, and you're giving up a free movement speed boost to get it.
Q - Geoscape: Selling Elerium/Alloys?
A: That's what we call a desperation move, my geoscape is in shambles at this point and winning the EXALT mission was the only thing that gave me hope this campaign. Usually you never want to sell either of those, as they bottleneck lategame research and are hard to come by in large quantities, but I legitimately had no other option. The satellites needed to be up by the end of the month, sacrificing long term options is worth it if the alternative is to lose at the next council report.
Q - Geoscape: What was up with the three UFOs this month?
A: Basically really bad luck. Usually two Ravens can take down an Abductor, but because I messed up using the modules and hadn't bought Phoenix Cannons yet, I lost one Raven and had the other badly damaged. Then, a couple of days later a Scout comes into the same country uncontested meaning that once it's done scouting, a Battleship is going to come and destroy the satellite. You can't beat a Battleship with Ravens. Игры
every xcom player has Vietnam flashbacks of that dock mission lmao
The editing - amazing.
The tactics - bloody.
RIP Moore, but the comeback will be sweetened with vengeance
Gonna be honest, I've never felt more pain seeing someone panic as I did then. The defender's medal preventing panic from allies dying but not chain panics was salt on the wound man.
the tactics - nooby :D
7:30
Mengsk abandons Kerrigan
-Tarsonis, circa 2500 colorized
When I got the mission that was your eleventh I had two mecs and one of them had a flamethrower.
It felt like I was suddenly playing Warhammer 40K.
I really want to point out that this is so, so fucking underrated and super well done. Thank you for this amazing experience.
The second I saw that instant site recon I recoiled. I knew it wasn't good, but yikes. What a way to lose a lead.
The losing isn't over yet
The Mass Effect 2 music playing during the end of Chryssalid mission, it gives me the feels
7:08 a real punch a hole in the god damn wall moment right there
I've been waiting til I caught up to say this, but man I'm glad this got reccomended to me. Your gameplay is godlike, your attitude admirably (my laptop would be in the trash sometime back in April) and your editing on point. Keep it up man!
God... i hate how you just avoid meld. but i know Impossible Iromman changes a man...
Lovely editing from these videos. pretty informative as well!
me: just fucking *hears* anything about canadian fishing village
also me: "alright, I would like one shit-ton of granades and rockets please"
Wow, that makes it 7 out of 8 countries lost? Terrific editing btw
I'm late to the party but damn that "Ayyy LMAO" edit when your satellite got destroyed made me laugh pretty hard.
A yes...THIS mission... also known as you better pray you've got good assaults and meks
oh god oh fuck it's Newfoundland
oh god oh fuck
every single time i come back to rewatch this series, eggsalt gets me.
Oh man, I love the audio editing. (The editing in general really, but especially the audio.) From the little voice clips to the music matching up with the action, it's clear you've put a ton of work into this and it really shows!
Man, it’s so nice to be able to watch someone play XCOM and vibe to Sonic Unleashed music at the same time.
That whole reveal with the Night Battle Theme was excellent lmao.
This is nuts, I got chryssalid seaport mission classic difficulty when I had nearly all late tech equipment (only thing missing is Alloy Canon) and you got it when you just got laser weapons and half your squad is still using conventional arsenal
i wanna go hoooooooome, lmao that poor solider
Council Mission: Site Recon-
Me: *Keemstar Screaming*
So there appears to be 2 strategies for the Canadian fishing hamlet. 1 is just to sacrifice a soldier to call the strike and run everyone away. The other is to farm the whale until it stops spawning chrysalids.
I'm really glad to see someone play this game. I was never good at it, but I played it extensively a few years ago, and it seems mostly unknown (though I haven't really checked it out too much.) I was surprised to see you do a series like this, and I applaud you for it. Seriously, these videos always make me smile and im glad you're still creating content. Keep it up :D
New XCOM has gotten kinda-sorta mainstream thanks to the sequel, XCOM 2, which is nice to see. I don't think a turn-based tactics will ever be the most popular game but it's come a long way from a super-obscure 90's simulation game. XCOM has a lot of really good (but mostly old) content on youtube/twitch, if you haven't seen any then I'd definitiely recommend some of Beaglerush's older stuff.
Beaglerush had a pretty well edited series called Ironman Impossible, altough he mostly does livestreams now so you'll need to go back a few years to find his edited stuff. (It's absolutely worth it IMO)
There's also Mallorous who did a similar series called 3COM, wich I can definitely recommend.
@@kierany9 I would also recommend Christopher odd. His recent season has been one hell of a rollercoaster and best series I have seen to date (modded xcom 2 impossible)
Maura Moore still lives on as one of my preset characters in Project Zomboid. Even in death she kills zombies
When shark went out, the alien's fate was sealed.
Idk if you know about this or not, but it's really useful to spam granades and rockets at every single shark you see in the site recon village. if you destroy them, chrissalids are unable to spawn in front of you while you run back to extraction point and they wont spawn as much in general (only about 1-2 from the whale per turn). so I usualy run in guns blazing and granade every single shark I see, even the ones aboard the actual ship
Mission 11: Saddest Loss
I know it’s late, but o7 to Moore. Heavy carries are going to be needed to make it though this.
8:20 “sorry beagle” 😂
This is so fucking good holy shit
Mission 11, aka Fisherman Chrysalid mission is why if you get this mission super early, just sacrifice some rookie to activate air strike while the rest are as close to exit as possible
Honestly, really great series so far, excited to see more
Keep it up man
These videos are awesome. You deserve more views!
This style is so amazing. Please do more smash cut stuff like this with other games. Thanks xoxoxox
10:30 this part had me cracking up. This video was great and I wish I had found it sooner.
Oh boy. Hope this can turn around!
fantastic content, mate. keep it coming!
i enjoyed this series a lot since I've found it, your editing is very 👍 too bad that xcom is just uninteresting to a lot of people tho
*chrysalid, shark, nesting* _memories of other players and walkthroughs_ oh fuck THE WHALE!
RIP thunder
I'm watching your series, and honestly, it reflects very well what Impossible Ironman is like. There are many gameplay videos that show that, but everything goes very well in 90% of the cases, and in those where something goes wrong, it's not serious, but your gameplay is faithful, it shows the cruelty of this difficulty.
I've played a lot on Classic, in fact, I have it very controlled, I know the positions of all the pods on all the maps, it's very easy for me, however, I've been trying I/I for days and there's no way, I'm lucky if I can get to the second month, and only once to the third month, things can go wrong very quickly xD
I haven't seen you do the Slingshot DLC missions, I suppose you weren't ready and skipped them? hehe
I intentionally disabled the Slingshot DLC. The mission itself is brutal but the rewards skew the difficulty of the campaign a lot, and I wanted the most vanilla I/I run possible.
And yeah, I/I can and will spiral out of control very quickly, this run went upended in March and in May the situation is still nowhere near stable.
I never got street Hurricane, nor did I know I could climb up the bow of the ship. If I'd known the latter, I probably could've succeeded that infamous mission first try, even if I lost all my troops...
Wait... that room in front of where you spawn in site recon isn't a empty box but has a door in the back??? well... that would of made things easier.
So loving this series so far, but i do have a question.
How come you went with Xcom: Enemy Unkown and not Xcom 2?
Preference, I find EW a much more enjoyable game than unmodded XCOM 2. Haven't played WOTC yet though, got it on sale a while ago and have been too busy to give it a shot.
Also, I'm much better at EW because of how many hours I've put in compared to X2.
Council missions are always the worst.
LMAO that music during the escape was absolutely fitting 4:10
I want to know what's up with that Newfoundland mission. It felt oddly specific that they point out that particular city and province. Also, Bradford says "Newfoundland" like someone from here would. Is the VA from here or something?
It's a scripted mission. Most missions occur in a random city around the world, but Site Recon is always in Newfoundland, hence the specific references in the dialogue.
Unplausible
