the thing about Deusenberg guitars is that all their hardware is designed and made by them. Everything from the pickups, to the tuning pegs. My guess is that it gives them a completely unique feel. Definitely a unique tone! would love to play one some day. I love wildfire. you should do a video on every song John uses the Q-tron on.
I LOVED my Duesenberg Fullerton TV. Something truly special about the tone of these guitars with the Vintage Humbucker and P90 in place. Together they do have a unique tone in that middle position but I would say that the pickups are unique in their own regard in the bridge and neck. There’s something about the clarity of these guitars that I don’t quite understand but I am in love with the results. I’m serious when I say this….I don’t ever want to play another guitar other than Duesenberg. From the day I picked up the guitar I knew it was the right one because it feels so right in the hands. I don’t remember the neck shape but my goodness how comfortable is the neck on this one. They have a newer line of guitars with different pickup configurations that seem to expand the line from the OG humbucker and P90 combo that so many of the models have. Anything Duesenberg makes is such a high quality instrument and it plays like it, looks like it. Mine even fell flat on its face off of a few steps and it played just fine that night and had no issues whatsoever after the fall. Check out that Fullerton TV it’s a joy to play. Don’t miss out on it.

I have both (Doublecat and Mike Campbell Sig) and I can tell you that they are quite different from each other once you put them on... The Doublecat is unique and I love it. To record in the studio I always take the Doublecat... For live, all eyes are on the Starplayer Tv and its weight is less than the Cat... You can see some comparative videos on my channel. Nor should we forget the great use that Robbie McIntosh gave to the Doublecat in the era of Where the light... That was the first time I looked at that guitar...
Great video! I’ve got a Mike Campbell Starplayer of a similar age to John’s Crossroads performance one. The Duesenbergs are very odd birds. The bridge pickup is like a hot, slightly mid-forward PAF… and that neck P90 is a bit more tame and polite than a lot of Gibson P90’s… in addition the Double Cat and Starplayer are 25.5 inch scale and have maple necks. Not the typical wood and specs for a set-neck guitar. You can see him putting toes in the water towards the PRS and super eagle with some of these tones and similar specs…. Oh! The pickup switching is a bit different, too… he’s using the middle position on the Double Cat a lot and that is not just both pickups in series… there’s something else going on… it almost sounds like they are out of phase or in parallel… it’s not the average guitar!
I have a Starplayer TV and a Paloma and they indeed have something special in the mid positions. It's out of phase with a cap to bring down the treble. I couldn't get used to it, I rewired it like usual and now I love the mid position.
ACL 2007 is the best Mayer performance, by far, IMO. He literally only misses 2 notes the entire performance, and that's at the very beginning of verse 1 of Belief. Other than that, it's literally flawless, and of all the hundreds of performances of his I've listened to or seen, there's no other performance that is as consistent in playing, singing, tone, and song selection. It was incredible back where it aired, and it's still incredible to this day.

Not a single note the entire hour, and I’ve seen a ton of his live performances, either online or in person. I would love a video on this crossroads performance and the gear that was used. I saw John and Keith in 2022 and I would do anything to see them tour together. They blend so well and are an underrated pairing of musicians. Looking at the setlist for this concert I think the song that doublecat was played on was Tonight I wanna cry. This was of course cut from the DVD but after looking at other live performances of this song specifically the aol sessions version Keith uses an acoustic 6 string and his other guitarist uses a 12 string. Tonight I wanna cry was the only Keith Urban song cut from the crossroads episode.

Excellent video as always! Regarding what guitar John used to record Wildfire. If you check out "Paradise Valley Studio Session No. 2" (recording of Wildfire) John is playing his '52 Tele. Could he have changed to the Duesenberg for later takes? Absolutely. But seeing and hearing him play his '52 Tele in that video makes me think that he indeed used it to record Wildfire. Another possibility: He used his '52 Tele for all the guitar parts in Wildfire but switched to the Duesenberg for the outro solo. And since the outro solo is the most important part during a live performance he's sticking to the guitar that he has recorded the outro solo with...

I bought a Starplayer new in 2020, and it is such a versatile guitar. Best tremolo system I have ever played too.
