Helpful video. Thanks. The Satechi USB - C Dual Multimedia adapter means you don't need 2 dongles ( docks) or a dongle ( dock) and a separate HDMI / USB C connector to another port. The Satechi Dual Multimedia has a dual plug that plugs into the 2 usb c ports in the mac and this dongle has 2 HDMI ports in it for your monitors to plug straight into. I have 2 samsung monitors connected to my Macbook Pro, but I cant make them to function independently from one another...What ever I do on one screen happens automatically on the othe rone as well..Anyone can plz tell me what to do to make them work separately from each other ? Thanks
Closing the MacBook Pro cover to 'signal' the external displays seems like a minor point, but it's non-trivial. Makes the whole thing work! Thanks for that especially. Good luck with your new home setup. Looking sharp sir.
Hi thanks for watching. Actually one that I use is old so I couldn't find a link to it. Actually I think as long as it has a USB-C port to plug into your mac, and has an hdmi port to accept the hdmi cable from your monitor, I see no reason why it won't work. They key thing I think (and technically I do not know why this is) is that you need a separate dongle per monitor, it won't work if you try and put two monitors through one dongle. With regard to the monitors, yes I will do that in the future. I couldn't even tell you what I have at the moment as I am moving house and they are all packed away!
OMG THANK YOU! Why can't all videos be this easy to follow so I don't waste hours listening to technical jargon that doesn't help. If I could buy you a beer, I would :)
Why is there so many videos on this subject that do not show any of this 😂!! This worked for me after many RUclips videos that told me nothing!! Thank you!!!!
Thank you! I did the same trick with usb-c ! The other cable was coming through HP docker (hub) and it still worked ! Also google recommended this video
for less cords you can buy the apple usbc digital av adapter and use the hdmi port on the apple adapter with your hdmi cord to one monitor and use a hdmi to uscc to the usb c port on the apple adapter and hdmi into the second monitor, entire process requires two cords (hdmi, hdmi to usbc) and one adapter (apple usbc digital av adapter)
Thank you for this! The issue of mirrored monitors has been driving me crazy. It's unfortunate how many accessories we have to use just because Apple wants to make a sleek laptop, but this is a huge help
I have an early 2015 MacBook Pro. Using a splitter has worked fine. Went into Best Buy thinking I needed to get all of the equipment, she assured me that the splitter would not mirror. And she was right. Not sure what the difference is between my situation and yours, but appears to be dependent on the circumstances.
Thank you so much!! I had 2 monitors and one dock station, so the mac did not recognised the sec. monitor but the input to have two doc station is a life saver!
Great job. You'd think this was simple and the solution is just that, but the hard part is navigating this freaking process until you realize the 2 dongle approach.
Can you advise how to accomplish this same thing with a MacBook Air 2015? I've been searching everywhere. So far, your channel is the best. I'm ready to go upgrade to a MacBook Pro after seeing your videos but hoping to put it off for a while.
Here is a link the a page - near the bottom is a list of adapters that are suitable with your model.support.apple.com/kb/sp714?locale=en_NZ I think it will also depend on the inputs of your screen?
Did you get it to work Kim? I have the same macbook and just bought a usb to hdmi converter but I can't get it to work. It was a somewhat obscure brand but claimed to be mac compatible.
Great video! As an alternative, if you don't need the extra ports from the dongle, I was able to just connect two USB-C to HDMI wires from my Macbook Pro to each monitor and it worked (avoiding the dongles).
Mmm wish I'd seen this before I bought my dual HDMI adapter!!! 🙄It's annoying but thanks to you I know I can't do anything about it and will go ahead and use the dongle I already have for the 2nd external monitor. Thanks for the vid. No fuss and straight to the point.
I don't know if this will work for others. while watching this I had an idea like I was using linux workspace. (off topic sorry ) SO Another way that might help others. open settings, click -display, then at the top there will be different categories i.e. -display -arrange -colour -nightshift. Click -arrange. IN that yow will see a box depicting your device display and any other connected monitors. Theres a box that says "mirror" un-click that and it should set up as 3 - as many ports as you can squeeze in!! This mad my day as it brings me my linux productivity of having diff workspaces but still having my loved Mac operating system
I have a MacBook Air early 2014.... my goal is to have a dual monitor setup if it is even possible! I’ve been trying day in and day out with new cables, adaptors, and “tips” from multiple sources. Your help would be greatly appreciated!
Since you have a Thunderbolt port on that model, you will most likely not be able to connect and HDMI cable, you will probably have to go with VGA, so you will need a Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter
Great video. Saved me some grief that’s for sure. Why do you need to do this on Mac as a splitter works fine on my work Microsoft Laptop? Seems ridiculous.
ohhh maann, question! I have a late 2013 retina display macbook pro fully functioning, it is one hdmi, 2 thunderbolts and 2 (older) usb ports - do you think you have a solution for me!? this is absolutely amazingg, I can’t find accurate info anywhere except here!
Has Apple kept its promise to fix the problem in a future update of macOS Big Sur? I am just wondering since they announced macOS Monterey... so could the fix be in this new OS? I am trying to figure out a good work set up for my mom's office. We want to get a new Macbook Air or possibly the new Macbook Pro and have it connect to two external monitors so she can do her work efficiently.
If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, you can connect a single external display to your Mac using one of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. Docks don't increase the number of displays you can connect as an extended desktop. support.apple.com/en-sg/HT202351

I have 2 samsung monitors connected to my Macbook Pro, but I cant make them to function independently from one another...What ever I do on one screen happens automatically on the othe rone as well..Anyone can plz tell me what to do to make them work separately from each other ? Thanks
Try ... System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement > Deselect 'Mirror Displays'
I totally agree with Shakib - that is what I would try too.
Thanks a lot , it’s working excellent now! :)
Awesome - great to hear! 👍👍
@@GetBusyLiving i have the same problem, is it a must to have 2 usb c to hdmi cables instead of just using 1 usb c hub?
Closing the MacBook Pro cover to 'signal' the external displays seems like a minor point, but it's non-trivial. Makes the whole thing work! Thanks for that especially. Good luck with your new home setup. Looking sharp sir.
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
Thank you so much! Does anyone know if this would also work for the 13" Macbook Pro?
Yes it should work - same principle 👍
Testing this out at work in a few hours. Thanks for short and simple video!
Hey Nate Ramirez you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍

Excellent! Just what I needed. The only video that explained a working solution. Thank you!!
Hey I'm glad I could help Arinze B Umeaku - thanks for watching! 👍
Thank you. You should add details below which usbc and monits you used
Hi thanks for watching.
Hey I'm glad I could help Marla Pugh! 👍Ha ha I wish you could buy me a beer too 🤣
This solved my problem instantaneously after fumbling around for hours trying to figure this out! Thank you!!
Hey Hojoon Choi you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Why is there so many videos on this subject that do not show any of this 😂!! This worked for me after many RUclips videos that told me nothing!! Thank you!!!!
Spent the whole night trying to figure this out but you saved us ! Thank you so much
Hey I'm glad I could help Tanzeem Syeda - thanks for watching! 👍
Omg, THANK YOU for sharing this! I have been trying to figure out how to do this for YEARS! Lifesaver!
You're so welcome!
The only guy who got right to it and showed how to do it!
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
Amazing, thankyou for this easy to follow setup. This video deserves a million views. Cheers!
Glad you liked it! Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Cheers! 🙏
Thank you sir for the explanation on how to make this work!! You included to easist to understand instructions and the exact hardware to make it work.
Hey Chris Rigdon you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Thank you! I did the same trick with usb-c ! The other cable was coming through HP docker (hub) and it still worked ! Also google recommended this video
Thanks @ajaaskelainen, I appreciate that! 😊
for less cords you can buy the apple usbc digital av adapter and use the hdmi port on the apple adapter with your hdmi cord to one monitor and use a hdmi to uscc to the usb c port on the apple adapter and hdmi into the second monitor, entire process requires two cords (hdmi, hdmi to usbc) and one adapter (apple usbc digital av adapter)
Sounds like a plan! I’ll check it out. Thanks! 🙏👍
Great video. Thanks, much for your instruction; love your accent. Your instruction is clear and concise. Hope to see more instructions from you.
Thank you I appreciate that! 👍
Ugh thank you so much. I had went through a whole ordeal only to find your video. Thank you mate.
Hey I'm really glad I could help @arrowmagnet - thanks for watching! 👍
Thank you for this! The issue of mirrored monitors has been driving me crazy. It's unfortunate how many accessories we have to use just because Apple wants to make a sleek laptop, but this is a huge help
I was so worried I wouldn't be able to get this to work! You are AMAZING!!! Thank you for this video!!
Hey I'm really glad I could help Megan Colagrossi - thanks for watching! 👍
Have you tried going into the mac display settings and selecting (or deselecting depending on what you want) the ‘Mirror displays’ check box?
Thank you so much!! I had 2 monitors and one dock station, so the mac did not recognised the sec. monitor but the input to have two doc station is a life saver!
Hey Anđela M. you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Great job. You'd think this was simple and the solution is just that, but the hard part is navigating this freaking process until you realize the 2 dongle approach.
Yeah I agree - it should be so much simpler! Thank you for watching 🙏
No way you’re from NZ! First NZ RUclipsr like this that I’ve found. Nice video mate!
Cheers mate I appreciate that! :-)
Thanks, saved me a lot of time and hair loss.
You're welcome! Gotta save that hair! 🤣
Thank you so much for the video. Very easy & straight to the point. God bless you, Sir
Hey Mohd Faisal Abu Hassan you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Cheers for the help and the fantastic, fantastic organization of your video!
You’re very welcome! I’m really glad I could help! 🙏
Can I also do this with my MacBook Air 2020, which has 2 usb c ports?
Yes you sure can 👍
So do you need 2 HDMI to USB cables from each monitor to the USB port? I didn’t quite get that…
No mate, just one. It's one port per external monitor.
This video was very helpful. I was able to set up my system feew minutes after watching the video.
Hey no problem Adedayo Adeyeye - I'm glad you found it helpful! 👍 Thanks for watching! 🙏
thx for the nice video and explanation. i have a question: how do the fan behave on that setup? i know that its quite a common problem with i9 chips.
Seemed ok for me mate 👍
Awesome. The answers I was looking for. If you can have 3 independent screens!
Hey I'm really glad I could help @miken5067 - thanks for watching! 👍
Great video! As an alternative, if you don't need the extra ports from the dongle, I was able to just connect two USB-C to HDMI wires from my Macbook Pro to each monitor and it worked (avoiding the dongles).
Yes they weren't available at the time of making the video, but yes they are a good option!
However no ability to continual charge your MacBook unless you have a 4 port version
You're very welcome!
Thank you so much, When i switched from a windows laptop I didn't think of checking multiple monitor support. This video helped me so much
Hey I'm really glad I could help @ricardoandino14 - thanks for watching! 👍
This is a GEM no matter how you look at it. Thanks for this priceless tip! Feels like we can now set sail for Treasure Island!
Good as gold mate, I'm sure this will help out some people - thanks for sharing!
Usually I don't comment on videos.
But my brother, take love. You helped me a lot.
I’m glad to hear that - thanks mate! Well I’m very glad you commented on this one 😊
I enjoyed you!!! I bought an HP 22cwa monitor for my 2017 mac book pro but I can't even get it to turn on. You sure gave me a smile....
Great to hear! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!
@@GetBusyLiving I have it all working and its awesome!!!
@@EnvironmentalCoffeehouse That's so great to hear! Thanks for letting me know 👍
Great video. Saved me some grief that’s for sure.
Why do you need to do this on Mac as a splitter works fine on my work Microsoft Laptop?
Seems ridiculous.
Yeah mate I hear you - it is what it is I guess...
ohhh maann, question! I have a late 2013 retina display macbook pro fully functioning, it is one hdmi, 2 thunderbolts and 2 (older) usb ports - do you think you have a solution for me!?
this is absolutely amazingg, I can’t find accurate info anywhere except here!
Yes, use the thunderbolt ports - you just need 2 hdmi to hdmi cables, and two hdmi to thunderbolt adapters 👍
Thank you! Very helpful, you saved me lots of stress.
Hey Freeha Noreen you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Thanks for helping! This is all I needed to know, your video’s are great, keep going :) Also, I like your setup, clean and nice look🔥
Oh wow - that is super kind of you to say! Thank you so much! 🙏
Do it work with MacBook Air? I’m just making sure before I go get everything I need
Yes it does - except the latest M1 macbooks - be aware of that - check out my comment in the description of the video.
Well yes they have for the new macs featuring the M1 Pro and M1 Max, hopefully they sweep the M1 up in the update!
Could you use the apple adapter as well as a usb C to HDMI if we wanted tot keep it clean and simple ?
Yes you should be able to do that👍
Omg thank you for troubleshooting it for all of us! This is exactly the tutorial I needed! 🙌🏻
Hey no problem Laurelizab - I'm glad you found it helpful! 👍 Thanks for watching! 🙏
God bless you! You’ve saved my sanity! 🙏🏽
Hey @melissalawrence4148 you're very welcome! Thanks for watching, and for taking the time to comment! 🙏👍
Thanks so much was having multiple problems buying an extra HDMI dongle when I actually just need a separate HDMI port dongle.
Thanks for the video. I was using HDMI Splitter + USBC-HDMI cord it didn't work. Have to buy another USBC-HDMI & try.
Yeah the HDMI splitter never worked for me either. In theory it should, but it doesn’t.
If you're using a Mac with Apple silicon, you can connect a single external display to your Mac using one of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports. Docks don't increase the number of displays you can connect as an extended desktop.
