Knife Making - Making A Leather Round Knife
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 апр 2017
- For a long time, I wanted to make myself a Leather Round Knife to cut and skive leather. Here it is. I used XC75 HCS, brass and walnut.
Unfortunately, my camera failed me at the exact moment of the quench and also failed recording the tempering of the blade.
Sorry for that.
I polished the blade with 80/120/240/400/600/800/1000/1200/1500/2000/3000/5000 grid sand paper and few seconds under the buffing wheel.
I really like how it turned out, specially the handle. I hope you like it too.

I was going to go to Tandy Leather and by a round knife. After seeing this amazing video, I am going to make my own. I have a few 12 table saw blades that are damaged and you just gave me the inspiration to put them to good use. Thank you for posting this build and saving me some money. Excellent video once again. Take care.

Thank you very much for your comment. Glad you like it :)
excellent! Wow! The head knifes are not cheap and yours is a true work of art.
Thank you very much. I truly appreciate it.
I have a standard antique head knife... but I'm in love with your design absolutely beautiful 👍
Thanks a lot Robert. Much appreciated :)
The Redsmith I never thought about it much but I got it out and cleaned it up and studied the history. From the information I can find it was made before 1890... C.F. Osborne. I would have never dreamed it was over 100 years old. But combining the head knife with the skinning knife is genius 👍
Thank you Robert ;)
Magnificent craftsmanship. Love the process.
Terry Herman Thank you Sir !
I totally need one of these. My neuropathy makes it hard to hold a round knife safely without slipping on a "push" cut . This angle appears to require much less effort with less slippage.
Yes indeed. Much less effort needed with it. I love this knife :)
well done...awesome camera work, and appropriate style music
Thank you very much!!
Enjoyed the video keep up the good work be blessed
Thank you very much!
Wonderful, was an enjoyable journey
Gib Clark Thanks you Gib.😊

Haha. Thank you very much. Not sure it's talent. Maybe just "work". Have a great week-end too :)
It’s awesome apart from the crack at the middle pin. Looks wicked sharp too.
Thanks a lot. Yes, the scale craked after the glue up. But I fixed it with epoxy. Thanks for watching!!
That's some awesome work. Just a beautiful knife.
Thank you very much Donald. Much appreciated.
Прямые руки из правильного места! Good hands from right place. Nice job, dud! My respect for you!

Very good your work that you have a very good knowledge of cutlery
+Julio Cesar Leao Thank you very much. I do my best and still have a lot to learn. But making is learning 😊 Thanks for watching
Some impressive welding skills building up the blade. And I really like the brass on the handle, awesome.
Thank you very much. First time some one compliments my welding skills ;) I really appreciate it. Thanks for watching !
I really like this build, correction on the title though. This is a head knife, if it was a Round knife it would be a complete half circle.
Thanks a lot. Noted :)
In the leather trade, a “head knife” is a slang term for a round knife. Just like they’re also called “saddleman’s knives”.
You’re the second person I’ve heard call it a head knife. The first person I heard calling it that did it specifically to state it was an occasionally used name for it.
thats really great man ,good job
Thank you veru much. I appreciate it :)
Exceedingly beautiful
Kent Snelson Thank you very much.
Very cool. that looked like a lot of work. but awesome result!
Maker | Geek Yes it was. But totaly worth it ! Thank you very much. 😊

Fantastic work!
Thank you Geoffrey ! Much appreciated !
Well, that's just absolutely beautiful. If you're not careful Gerald, you are going to get good at this.....
Andy Birkey Thanks Andy. I will do my best 😉
Hahaha, Amazing work, my friend

Vraiment top !!!
Merci beaucoup. C'était beaucoup de travail mais ça en valait la peine😊

sa-maker Thank you Hugo !
A work of art as usual Red, Kudos 👍
Doc Darkness Thanks Doc. Your continued support is much appreciated. 😊👍
Really nice. And with moderate and fixed equipment. Hat tip, duder. Bummer on the wood crack. Still gorgeous and effective.
Thank you very much. Yes, I discovered the wood crack when it was all done...not cool, but I still love it :) Thanks for watching.
Beautiful knife....
Thank you very much!!!
Awesome work, tool and editing bro !
Remy Chibois Merci Rémy. Content que ça te plaise 😊
Hi Redsmith,
I am just wondering if stainless steel wouldn't be better for the blade. What do you think about it ?
Hi Slaes, I think it would work just fine. Unfortunately, stainless steel requires special equipment for heat treaning I don't have yet. I hope to buy it one day :)
Thanks for watching !
Ok I see.
Anyway, the result is beautiful !
+slaes Thanks a lot 😊
one word AWESOME
Thank you very much!!
I loved the knife, I also like how you replied to everyone who commented xD You have earned a sub, Keep up the good work!
Cave Lion Thank you very much. I always try to answer to every comment. Have a great week and welcome aboard ! 😊
Beautiful work. Fantastic video. Nothing more to say :)
Thanks a lot Phil. Not every body seems to like the music though :)
The Redsmith that's like asking everyone to agree on pizza toppings. Ain't gonna happen. I still love pizza though :)
Phil Pinsky Productions True 😊🍕
Turned out beautiful, Gerald! Now my 7 year old wants to make one;-)
Thank you :) Your comment made it worth it !
very unique blade awesome
Thank you very much ! Glad you liked it :)
I see people make blades on youtube all the time and its nice to see blades are different
Me too ! I guess both of us like unsual blades :)
Damn straight
;)
Yet again awesome!!
Richard Ganster Thanks Richard ! ! 😊
Beautiful Build Red! The music is awesome too!
Dave Strain Thank you Dave. Glad you like the music too. Had two comments todat saying wasn't as a good choice as I thought. 😕
Ahh I wouldn't worry about it.... They're probably just French ;-)
Dave Strain Ahahaha great answer ! 😊 👍
Amazing work! A real craftsman. :-)
Rumpel Tv Thank you very much. I truely appreciate it. 👍😊
Мощно!
большое спасибо
subhaanAllah
I don't understand. Sorry.
a lot of works than I thought. what you used to on wood. just oil or Vernis?
Thanks. It's just boiled linseed oil.
beautiful knife. can you make rolling knife for leather work?
Thanks a lot. Yes it's on my list!!
Cool!
Thanks :)
So nice
Thanks Randall !!
Looks amazing, but could've used a lower grain on the wood, there are still some sanding marks there :( (I know, the OCD in me hehe)
Yeah I saw that too when I edited the video. Same OCD stuff here ;) Thanks a lot for watching
Amazing I subscribed
Thank you very much. And welcome aboard ! :)
nice work..
Thank you very much !
Wow!, great design man.
but, i don't see if you make the temper, meke?
your job is very amazing.
Reginaldo A. Lopes Thanks a lot. My camera failed me for the temper but I did it. Thanks for watching.
Wonderful piece! Really like the lines of the handle and brass.
Thank you very much. Improvisation on the handle paid. It's my favorite part too :) Thanks for watching.
Very nice knife! But i have to say that you did a lot of time consuming process that could take just a few minutes if done with the tools that you already have! Like the profile, why don't use the angle grinder to obtain a much closer shape and then redifine it with the small grinder? And why making the bevels with the file while you have a beautiful grinder? You could rough the bevels on the grinder and then redifine with the file. I'm not saying you are not good, but just that you can make the same knife in 1/5 of the time
A killer handle. I wanted to see more of it working but a really sick build
Thank you very much Mike !
Nice knife. Good visual. Had to mute the crappy soundtrack though, dubstep is definitely a specialty taste in music, and very harsh for those not on board with the style... (Just providing feedback)
Thank you. That's what the mute button is for :)
A thing of beauty! Nice work, roughly how long did it take you to make?
Shaun Whiteley Thanks a lot. I would say around 10 hours of work. 😊
