I'd like to imagine that both this is how Heavy actually sounds in his native tongue, He sounds the way he does in English because that's not his first language
Today I learned from RU Heavy's passing that they not only dubbed most of the Meet The Team videos in Russian, *they even did lip synching for the Russian dialogue.* That's a TON of extra effort they didn't need, but did anyway.
Funfact: Heavy speaks perfectly in the russian translation No grammatical errors like hes known for. It makes sense for him. Alot of personality for tf2 characters come from their accents like sniper, engineer and scout. But while their accents are native to English speakers Others like The Heavy and the Medic come from none english accents trying to pronounce english words. So when they translate the game to their native tounge they loose the same character effect. I Heard (can't be certain because I dont speak these languages) they make up for this by changing aspects Like for instance The Spy in the french translation says his french lines in English, The heavy uses archaic words in Russian and The Medic speaks in a very old military esq way in the German translation. Sorry for going off I just like talking about this
The reason french spy says his French line in English is actually to do with teh fact that he hasa British accent when speaking French in the French dub. This is because while in the English world the spy is a French trope in the French world the spy is a British trope so they made him British in the French dub.
can we talk about the fact heavy calls sasha his baby?? in the english version he just refers to her as a gun, so i really like the added sentimental value added in the russian dub

Made me realize how much cooler the "Meet the" series or even the game would be if the mercs spoke in their natural language. I guess valve decided it'd be too foreign for English players or didn't have the budget to fly in foreign VA. Then again, you could probably just mod the game to play different .mp3 files.
I love that there's subtitles showing what the voice actor is saying and precisely when he's saying it, because otherwise we'd just assume he's 100% faithful to the original script ver batim, and it's interesting to see that in translation from english letters and grammar to the russian kind that there's some key changes and differences
