    We wanted one of this to see the critters in our backyard. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGix1RueFf66g4dKZ0w4Qsw_3Vv6Xqant The first thing that I like about this is that it has a rechargeable battery. The other is that it is small and fairly easy to use. The instructions weren't too great but we played with it awhile and figured it out. Can see very well in our back yard down to the woods which is roughly a football field length in the dark. There were certainly more expensive ones out there but this works for us and was within our price range. We have not tried the video recording portion and may update the review later.

    That’s awesome man love the video! This would be perfect for me in Jersey when we’re trolling for stripers at night. Sure beats a spot light and slow rolling near the coast looking for debris. You got my sub. Stay safe out there capt.

    I have one of these, in addition to my FLIR M364C.
    The statement that thermal cameras pick up a heat signature, isn’t quite accurate. They detect differences in temperature. I’ve yet to find a channel marker or a bridge that isn’t a different temperature than the water. FLIR also works in pitch black darkness, where this becomes useless.

    Although this is a good review it has a pretty serious flaw and that is there was always light outside the boat and especially up under the bow. The test would be way better if you took this camera out into complete darkness and I mean complete darkness and I think it might be a different story.

  • @gregorylaughlin2556
    @gregorylaughlin2556 3 года назад +1

    I am not suggesting that there is any deception here at all but rather than call it night vision it would be way better to say it’s low light vision and it is very good at that. I’ve seen the same product reviewed in pitch black and it’s performance is very poor. It is true that you do not get pitch black very often and frequently starlight is all you need for this camera but if you did get through pitch black it would not work.

      Hi Antonio. I typically run it on my iPad on my boat, but for this video we wanted to show a super low cost option so I picked up that Samsung 10.1 A tablet for $199 on Amazon. So for those who don't have a tablet, for $399 (SiOnyx night vision camera) + $199 tablet + a few Ram Mounts, you have a full blown night vision setup at the helm for less than $700 bucks.

    • @anthonyjameslongo
      @anthonyjameslongo 4 года назад

      Note: Lag is from wifi connection at 15 frames per second. It didn't film great, much better in person. And no you can not hardwire the video, but only run a hardwire connection for power if you didn't want to run off the battery.

  • @AZBADBOYz
    @AZBADBOYz 4 года назад +2

    Something not covered in this video review and many more is the ability to change to a green screen and black and white. In the situation the review is in, there's more than enough light for the full color night mode but in super low, no moon situations, the black and white or green can work better so try each. Also, you can get really good and cheap IR illuminators in the 940nm spectrum that you cannot see with the naked eye but look like crazy freaking high beams are shinning on stuff through the SiOnyx.
    Absolutely groundbreaking tech!! I cannot wait for the advancement of it either.

    I don't Know where you find it for $399? It appears to actually be priced at $599 everywhere that I looked, and while it appears to be a good product you kind of shoot your credibility in the foot by aiming the FLIR directly at the water and wiggling it around with just the barest sliver of the surrounding view now and then as a comparison... I'll bet that you cheat at cards and welch on bets too.

      It was on an intro sale at the time. It says that on the text of the video, although we didn't know that at the time of the shoot. The cameras were all mounted on the same unit as shown at the beginning. Easier said than done to shoot four cameras at once. We have zero interest on which camera performs better, so this was a learning experience for us on similar priced cameras. We think the point was made even if the cameras weren't exactly lined up and there is never any cheating going on here sir. Thanks for chiming in though.

      @@notmefrfr I have used a gen 3 PVS-14 and it is indeed awesome AND limiting. For example I can't stream to a large ipad at the helm and can only use my gen 3 as a monocular while boating. The lag you're referring in the video is the frame rate of the wireless stream to the ipad 15FPS, no the device itself just FYI. Lastly, there is quite a bit of value packed into a $399 camera that is pretty darn good in most conditions compared to a $3500 gen 3 PVS-14 - for boating use case at least.
