I only ever finished it once with both Dante and Lucia then afterwards went on to play DMC3 without even bothering to unlock everything like I did with DMC1.
@@Saltyaf38 It needs a rewrite yes, but if they reboot it, they'll change Dante's design. They'll make him look like some realistic crappy tired from life old man instead of the kick ass demon hunter character he is in this game.
When I first played DMC 2, I really wanted to unlock Trish; complete both Danté and Lucia's stories to unlock Hard, complete Danté's story on Hard to unlock her. And when I finally did, I was proud I unlocked her myself, and for me, the game is all the more fun because of it.
Well done, there are some points that I can agree with such as getting required orbs from arius fights. Although, there are couple of points I need to pick up from this as there are far better strats than the ones you are sharing. It's not worse than you think given the strategies and resources used here: - Much like DMC 1, S ranking in DMC2 requires a lot of planning and research about the game. - About stylish average. At S rank, for each 5000 additional style points, your point will be incremented by one to 6, 7, 8 etc. Therefore the claim that more singular S ranks >> one veeeery long S rank combo is false. - Merciless may have range but you lose total amount of damage. Therefore, its much better to stick with rebellion or vendetta for even more damage. I see a lot of missile rocket - Stinger does not do way more than other moves. High time does about the same damage as Stinger, round trip does even more, million stab and so on. There are techniques in this game that lets you use DT form moves without consuming them all. s and much more. - 2 missiles fire from chopper should easily be recognisable from the sound alone rather than "I couldn't see them and procced to shoot " You can also destroy them with your guns which lets you gain free DT. - The bats from M6 were not impossible if you destroy the boss's hand they will no longer be spawned. Additionally, bat gives you free DT. You get free roundtrips. - Bolverk is free once you get to loop him with your round trip I could go on more, but I only picked up the ones that matters
I played DMC 2 without knowing it's reputation either and I had fun playing. But at the end of the game I said to myself 'Man... this game was too easy.'
@Mychael G. I've been thinking about it a lot. Hypothetically they could have make a remake od DMC2... but why should they? There's no good reason to do it. After all it was the game that almost destroyed the franchise, I highly doubt they even like to talk about it in Capcom, not to mention seriously thinking about wasting money to make a better version of DMC2. And even IF , then they would have to change almost everything, not just graphics, because almost everything in this game sucked. So I think it's more logical to make remake of 1st DMC or just newDMC with new story.
The thing about the Reboot was that It lacks identity. In one way, it tried to be DMC but in another way, it wanted to become Heavenly Sword with the story. Combining Capcom Japan nagging with Tameem's self-centered jackass attitude at the time. It was a mess. Heck, the demo tester said it was a mess with bunch of bugs that you didn't intend to do it but it activate anyway and Style meter didn't even go down. Tameem said and I quoted "The game is perfect, there is nothing to fix." I needed to remind you all how bad DmC ver. 1.00 was. Capcom and the PC dev port had to force a patch and later a definitive Edition (which carry over most of the stuff from DMC3 and DMC4 at the basic level (not even combat depth)) to fix the game. The game is only ok action game but the identity crisis was there.
I haven't played the reboot in a while but I remember it being a good game just not a good Devil May Cry. If it was anything else it probably would've had a sequel by now
@@jaykelley103 I can't stand the reboot either, but i have to admit 2 is worse, at least in the reboot you cant shoot every enemy to death and hitting things with the sword had some satisfying impact, and the levels weren't just giant empty maps with nothing happening in them like most of 2's levels
reminds me of trying to get pure platinum on bayonetta. Bayonetta is such a cathartic game if you DONT care about scores at all, but if you do try, you will see the dark corners of that game very quickly. Too many combos and weapons are discouraged because of how your points will get reduced more and more unless you spam the large punch and kick attacks frequently. the difference is that bayonetta was designed to be save scummed by restarting at check points by exiting to the title screen, when they really could have just owned up to the BS and had a retry button.
I haven't played all the PlatinumGames games, I even hear that MGR lets you choose sections, but I feel you as a The Wonderful 101 player. Time, Style and Damage are an interesting trio to balance but time may be unclear till you have a guidebook or list. Same goes for style only it is so dynamic that you may need to study or focus on some exploits. Damage... It seems good on paper but you need to master the more gimmicky segments where you might not have your parry or Ukemi if you even got it. It is also super linear. Fortunately, there are cheat codes to get the bonuses I believe but it feels like they could use some rethinking of their approach. If it isn't easy to retry, why make it tedious to even start practicing?
Getting one S rank for the platinum trophy was painful as is but getting all S ranks is something else. DMC2 is probably the hardest DMC game to fully S rank.

DMC2 needs a remake, or a remaster with a overhaul rebalancing. Where DMC2 plays more like the 3rd game, and able to switch between styles, weapons on the fly. and then rebalance the weapons and monsters. And maybe edit the story abit, like bosses with introductions, Bolverk needed one.
Yeah, for DMC 2 I just stick to hard mode. Right there at 3:40 is why I come back to DMC 2. There’s something there that feels good playing around and experimenting with the DMC2 tool kit in its own way. What ruined DMD mode for me was how they have the enemies go into devil trigger. They gain super armor. Maybe this is how the other games are too, but the base difficulties and the harder modes in the other games are usually all the challenge I need. So I went into DMD for 2 seeking that standard level of challenge. But what goes wrong is after the set 15 seconds of battle, or whatever it is that the enemies have before they auto devil trigger, suddenly you’re playing a Devil May Cry with no collision detection. You’re doing damage but the lack of flinching enemies ruins my ability do my 3:40 thing. Ultimately I just A-S ranked the whole game and left it that. I didn’t worry about being an S rank elitist too much precisely because I saw everything in this video coming from a mile away And I just want a chill time out of my DMCs.

Then play Dante's Inferno, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play MGR, 100% it, do everything you can do.then play God Hand, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play Castlevania Lord of Shadows, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play Ninja Garden, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play Astral Chain, 100% it, do everything you can do. We should at least be grateful that this game sold well enough for DMC3 to be greenlit, and for Itsuno’s strong refusal to let DMC2 be his sole contribution to the series be the thing that let him ask Capcom to give him DMC3 from the start.
One of the combos i do is High time + E&B + High time but you must have a patience of a monk because it will bore you within minutes of doing it. I beat it twice with Dante and once with Lucia just to unlock Trish and after that i never touch this device of mental torture.
This video inspired me to also try to S rank all of dmc2, and after only about 2 weeks of trying I only have 1 mission left to S rank, mission 16, all on normal btw and I wouldn't call it a nightmare to S rank at all tbh, and I thought S ranking 14 was way easier than 12, wasn't even trying to S rank 14 when I did and 12 took forever because I'd always lose my combo on the boss
This video largely reminds me of why I grew to dislike No more heroes 2 - where the games inherent flaws aren't so crippling until a challenge is presented in the game and the cracks suddenly begin to actively fight against you.
DMC2 turned out to be so broken because most of it was mismanaged and the writing/directing were handled by a ghostwriter. Oh, and by the way, Itsuno was responsible for the "Here's your crown." one-liner from Dante against Arius; let's be thankful he and his team of talent saved Devil May Cry with the third mainline entry(DMC3 had Dante regain his cool and become the wisecracking badass and goofball was know today, as well as Vergil turning into one of the most iconic video game rivals; his dialogue will always be memeable and never be unmemorable). Lucia is just wasted potential tbh, but Nero was able to carry her poorly done execution of a secondary protagonist that later takes his/her place as the main lead, specifically in DMC4 and DMC5. I have some good things to say about DMC2: it introduced Bloody Palace, Dante's design was awesome including the FMVs during his scenario(same goes with the Japanese commercial), and his guest star appearance in SMT3 Nocturne(the HD Remaster had Dante voiced by Reuben Langdon, tbh), the amulet gameplay feature was interesting while also giving us Shin Majin/True Devil Trigger(known as Sin Devil Trigger in DMC5 after it became canon), the soundtrack was stellar but it gets even better when Tetsuya Shibata returned to compose DMC3 & DMC4, and Trish is playable for the first time in this series; too bad you have to unlock her.

Yea I feel your pain, it's nearly IMPOSSIBLE to maintain a combo just because the enemies keep bouncing away from you. And the camera certainly doesn't make thing easier.
You either finish the game as a hero, or try to S rank all of it and become insane.
I only ever finished it once with both Dante and Lucia then afterwards went on to play DMC3 without even bothering to unlock everything like I did with DMC1.
Or drop the game after fighting the chopper
@@saulgoodmansfingerr8527 That's a viable reaction, it's sad that Trish' first playable appearance is in this game
15:01 the end of J's DMC2 character arc.
I endorse DMC2 remake.
Reboot
@@Saltyaf38 It needs a rewrite yes, but if they reboot it, they'll change Dante's design. They'll make him look like some realistic crappy tired from life old man instead of the kick ass demon hunter character he is in this game.
@Can a swallow swallow? I was talking about 5.
With the current combat system as well
When I first played DMC 2, I really wanted to unlock Trish; complete both Danté and Lucia's stories to unlock Hard, complete Danté's story on Hard to unlock her.
It's not worse than you think given the strategies and resources used here:
- Much like DMC 1, S ranking in DMC2 requires a lot of planning and research about the game.
I see a lot of missile rocket
- Stinger does not do way more than other moves.
- Bolverk is free once you get to loop him with your round trip
I could go on more, but I only picked up the ones that matters
Why do you know this?.. not trying to be rude or anything but... why?

That's really cool, too bad I'll never get it because DMC2 is an awful game and I don't want to touch it ever again.
There’s a code you can enter on your controller to unlock Trish earlier on! She’s by far the most fun character in the game.
I played DMC 2 without knowing it's reputation either and I had fun playing. But at the end of the game I said to myself 'Man... this game was too easy.'
Congrats :D this is how I felt with sonic 06 when I was younger.... thought it was some underrated gem then played it again and noticed how bad it is
I wish Capcom would remake Devil May Cry 2.
And keep the original soundtrack.
@@Maverick-65 and Dante's design
Ikr it really needs a remake
This game doesn't need remake. What it need is to be buried right next to E.T. game on some desert.
And even IF , then
they would have to change almost everything, not just graphics, because almost everything in this game sucked. So I think it's more logical to make remake of 1st DMC or just newDMC with new story.
At least your not the guy who says "ThE rEbOoT iS wOrSe."
i got into it with that and i used to be that guy
think i would still rather play 2
No. It's pretty much unanimous that bad as DmC is, DMC2 is even worse.
Oh yeah, this is the reason I really do not like Bayonetta at all. Top it all off with bullshit hidden verses that tank your score. It’s not worth it.
Just went through S-Ranking Mission 1.
Thank god the trophy doesn't require all S-Ranks, I would've gave up after losing my mind.
You make this game look more fun than it is. I admire your skill though!

Getting one S rank for the platinum trophy was painful as is but getting all S ranks is something else. DMC2 is probably the hardest DMC game to fully S rank.
DMC2 is one of the first video games I ever played. I still remember finishing it and finding out you needed a second disk to play as the girl but we didn’t have the second disk.
As someone who hadn’t played many games when you first played DMC2, how was the game in terms of difficulty? I’m curious to know.
@@JsReviews well I was about 7 years old and I remember I had to ask my uncle to beat 2 bosses for me; green octopus thing and final boss. The rest my cousin and I did by ourselves so not that hard if a 7 year old does it haha
Imagine devil may cry 2 remade and Rewritten from the ground up where we explain that dante is depressed because virgil died in the first Dmc
That’s pretty much what’s considered the reason he’s depressed as well as Trish leaving.
Maybe he is just tired of hunting devils, dealing with corrupt humans and having to clean up daddy's mess etc.
I like to think that Dante is just too bored in DMC2
Then why he wasn't depressed in DMC4? There's no real reason why he acts like that in DMC2.
@@joshpl5451 because he met Nero, another part of his family, and his lost brother’s son. He was no longer alone, and he could be a mentor to Nero and guide him in the legacy of Sparda.
Impressive playing. Cool to see footage of this game as its the only one I never completed. Ive only tried it briefly but will have to go through it for the kill one day. It always looked generic so I didnt take it seriously. Just completed DMC 4 special edition. It was cool to be able to play as other characters in that version.
I don’t know what to write but I’ll say that Orangguerra is a funny ass boss name.
You've got the most stylish dmc 2 combos I've seen tbh that was epic.
Tell that to javelina devil
I platinumed this on my PS3 at the start of the year. Felt well chuffed. Granted I used a cheat to help me beat Bloody Palace but all the same I did it. I still think the game is fine. Not great, but a servicable action adventure game

Despite being a diehard DMC/Platinum/Character Action lifer who goes out of his way to get the max ranks on the max difficulties in any title, I never bothered with doing anything beyond playing dmc2 with all 3 characters on DMD. Thank you so much for doing it so I don't ever have to. Looks like pulling teeth. I'm sorry for your loss.
Did you get the dmc4 Plat? If yes did you get 5th one too? The only dmc I didn't Plat is 5 but im working on it as I'm writing this.
@@funnfungusie9622 I'm actually not sure what qualifies as "plat". Don't pay attention to chievos, but I've done SS runs on DMD for the nero/dante campaign, and beaten bloody palace as nero/dante/Vergil. The only thing left for me to do in 5 is a damageless DMD run as N/V/D and a deathless/damageless as Vergil. Should be easy with vergil, i was just a bit sloppy on my first run around. Also trying out the divergence mod so I can try doing Nero/Dante the full way through. No interest in inviting more V in my life. I got his bloody palace and i'll probably never touch him again. :P
@@Envoy15 Platinum trophy/ all achievements. If your at the point were you do damageless dmd, thats pretty much a plat and a half. @@funnfungusie9622 Only did damageless on dmc4 and under. Also didn't bother for the Deboot :P Which one are you working on? DMc4 isn't too bad so long as you develop/study strats for problem enemies and bosses, but dmc3 is a nightmare to do no damage. You have to really consider your build and what enemies you are fighting, and everything has much higher health. You also need to be aware of how to manage DT enemies. Leaving guys alive on life support while you combo down their friends, and then take out a group all at once with some DTE or other AoE moves is an important skill in DMC3, less so for the future games.

Lol finally, someone else who spent just as much time on this game as I have. Though the only reason for that is this was the only DMC game I had as a kid for a long time until I was able to play 1 and 3 again, and I even had a brady games strategy guide to it that my dad bought back when the game first was released. I still kinda go back to it and play with Trish for nostalgia sake since she plays exactly like DMC1 Dante, even with a significantly longer stinger than DMC2 Dante.
Hurts my soul because I did basically all the trophies for this before they were even a thing back in the PS2 days….sigh
I really just watched an in depth video on how to S rank a game I will probably never touch again.
DmC2 is good. First play Dmc5, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play DmC3, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play DmC4, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play DmC1, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play the DmC revoot, 100% it, do everything you can do.
Finally, with all other options exhausted... play bayonetta, 100% it, do everything you can do. Then play bayonetta 2, 100% it, do everything you can do.
Now, at last, if you REALLY need a beat em up. REALLY NEED IT. Go back and replay through DmC, it's probably been a while. Then finally, after all that, DMC2 might be worth a play through.

Great video!
We should at least be grateful that this game sold well enough for DMC3 to be greenlit, and for Itsuno’s strong refusal to let DMC2 be his sole contribution to the series be the thing that let him ask Capcom to give him DMC3 from the start.
17:24 Wait, why do you have to do that? I thought just beating Dante Must Die mode allows you to use it. Am I missing something here?
Because it's only available in certain regions; France happens to be one of them. I had to do that to complete Bloody Palace mode.
One of the combos i do is High time + E&B + High time but you must have a patience of a monk because it will bore you within minutes of doing it. I beat it twice with Dante and once with Lucia just to unlock Trish and after that i never touch this device of mental torture.
Oh well done, now can you do dmc3 SS rank run? :D
You picked THIS hill to die on? Its not even a fun game. This must be what pure masochism looks like.
Look at you shootin' the works my friends.
This video largely reminds me of why I grew to dislike No more heroes 2 - where the games inherent flaws aren't so crippling until a challenge is presented in the game and the cracks suddenly begin to actively fight against you.
Someone actually did it... not even I hate myself that much to do an all S on DMC2.
dmc2 is the only dmc i haven't played yet, but i can tell it looks way cooler than it actually is. it's like silent hill but with MGR combat.
take a shot everytime he says restart
The most stylish thing u can do in dmc is don't stop shooting the guns
Why has this video made me want to go back and play DMC 2? What have you done to me!!
