I don't get why they gave Dante a coin in DMC2, but it led to a neat moment in Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne of all things. In that game, Dante offers to join your party for a price and has you call a coin flip. If he wins, he'll charge you all the money you have, and if you win, he'll only charge you a single macca. If you've played DMC2 and know that his coin is double-sided, you're guaranteed to get him basically for free. If you haven't, then you have to guess since nothing in the game itself ever hints that it's a trick coin, even after the coin flip.
Duuude, the double sided coin is a well known item/gag in Japanese media/anime. It's usually used by characters that want to look tough, manly and emotionally detached when in truth they're softies with a heart of gold and want to hide it. That's why when Lucia gets the coin and realizes Dante waa tricking her the whole time she says "that macho". Dante does indeed care but don't want to be seen weak (like when he started crying in DMC3 but blamed it on the rain, or in DMC1when he says he saved Trish just cause she reminded him of his mom -which is in part true, but not 100%-, etc.). Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to clarify the whole coin thing. I just can't get how many people don't get it lol
@alexanderfate8447 absolutely not true, heck, Lucia's own words calling him/Dante a "macho" after realizing the coin thing was a facade is not indication enough? You don't need Japanese media to read between the lines..

Sooooo... gameplay aside, I guess I'm the only one who likes DMC2 Dante huh? I believe DMC1 and anime Dante had the best balance of seriousness and sassyness. DMC3 onwards, Dante is too much of a goofball imo. Really liked his more serious demeanor in this game, didn't find him boring at all.
Death from Darksiders 2 has a good balance of seriousness and sass to him as well. 'Most people call me "Pup" or "Lad", but I prefer me own name... Karn.' ' "Pup" it is, then.' And Briar & Lute from Soulstice elevate one another, but mainly shine on the sass & humor front when in conversation with their sarcastic overseer Layton. 'I would hate to see the Judge welcome you into his halls so soon.' 'Not while we still have sins to commit.' And though not a character action game, Pseudo from Clash: Artifacts of Chaos is a good one too. People have likened him a bit to Hellboy here and there. or Clint Eastwood. He looks somewhat old and gnarled, but he's quite entertaining. Such as when a group of theater players ambushes him and a frontman keeps flubbing his lines: "Uh, fellas? Let's just fight? This is boring, and I get cranky when I'm bored." Followed by the bird on his shoulder simply saying "It's true."
This game really did have the best character designs, it's my favorite look for Dante before he does indeed just become an anime archetype entirely. Soon as they made Vergil his rival, they fell into the red/blue cliche personas. The funny thing is twice they wanted to make Dante more serious for a darker tone and show some sort of character growth/change. DMC 4 if anyone remembers screenshots from early builds had him with different hairstyle and serious look. At some point they went back to his DMC3 characterization or whatever that cowboy yaoi look he had lol
It’s funny this game is considered to be so bad because it was one of the first ps2 games I ever played. the graphics and enemy designs wowed me as a kid.
Can't be as bad as: Superman 64 Aquaman on Gamecube Batman Forever on the original Gameboy (terrible SNES game ported with fewer buttons to use) Lester the Unlikely Conan the Barbarian (NES) The Rocketeer (SNES) Cheetahmen (Mega Drive/Genesis)
Not even close to “the worst game ever”. And in a series retrospective, this game was necessary. Basically created TRICKSTER and the team that would go on to make DMC3. DMC3 being the game that defined 4 and 5 on tone. If anything, playing 2 and knowing about S ranking, it makes me glad that those people who played 1 mission and clipped in saying “guns OP” were actually D rank players. Cause guns are basically used to open up trash enemies and keep your rank alive.
Fun Fact: SMT Nocturne's famous maniax release on the PS2 has the Dante from this game in it, and if you remembered the coin was the same on each side you can get him as a party member for 1 Macca, whereas if you guess wrong you'll have to pay 1 million to get him. Not only that, he actually behaves like the Dante we all know and love.
i love that the villain never even checks the coin to ensure its the very specific, one of a kind coin he needs. no he just trusts that the enemy gave him the right coin.
That and he did replicate the same thumbnail from Megaman X7. Dante looking at you in the thumbnail and In the X7 thumbnail, Zero X and Axl looking at us.
It's really unfortunate that DMC2 ended up as rough as it did. It has, and I go on record saying this, the coolest looking Dante in the entire franchise in my opinion. His look in DMC2 is top notch. This was another instance of me using "X3 Syndrome" when referring to a game (ironically in the context of another Capcom IP), when a game has a lot of really cool ideas on paper but the execution was so assbackwards it makes it significantly difficult to enjoy. I know DMC1 was a tough act to follow but still, this was a messy follow up.
Can't wait to see your retrospective video of DMC3. If I remember correctly it was Devil May Cry 2 that got me to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. I bought a copy of DM2 and finished Disc 1/Dante's Missions in just 1 or 2 days. The next day I found out Disc 2/Lucia's Missions won't boot up so I returned to the game store and, fortunately, they agreed to exchange it with MGS3: Subsistence.
This game sure grew worse for me as the years went on. I would rather play the Reboot game than this one - which I find overhated and not as exaggerating-ly bad as its made out to be. Devil May Cry 2 is not the worst game ever made, but its a really bad Devil May Cry installment. If Capcom ever gives Devil May Cry 1 or 2 a remake someday like they do Resident Evil. Please redeem Devil May Cry 2 because this games ideas could sure use a full retooling...
The thing is there’s so much of the aesthetic of DMC2 I enjoyed then and now, like the enemy designs and the blend of old European architecture and corporate America Shame about the slow gameplay and weirdly silent Dante
Wow, J you convinced me yet again that another game I would otherwise think was meh is awful. For real, that takes talent man. It is one hell of a miracle DMC even became a franchise after this. We can only attribute that to the success of the first game, not really the second.
I had a friend who was super big into the series since the demo for 1 first dropped. Played through the first one on every difficulty and I had many tales of watching them get frustrated but eventually coming through. Come release day for DmC2 and we've been hyped for awhile, went back to his place and fired it up. I headed home after the first 3 or 4 missions thinking maybe it was just slowly gearing up. Go to hang out a few days later and mysterious silence about the game, bring it up and get "yeah you want to borrow it? I beat it already." Point out I'm trash at the first game but was told that won't be an issue. Take it home and yeah very much experienced all the disappointment first hand, finished it over the course of a day or two and it just felt wrong the entire time.
This other theory comes to mind when you just explained the strangeness with the Sonic system that makes it more believable to me they didn't know how to program a character switching mechanic so they decide oh we'll just switch discs to make that work! This is seriously a good example of everybody's a rookie on your dev team possibilities
It’s been 20 years and I’m still not over the fact that the reward for beating DMC2 is essentially the ability to play DMC1. Just play the better game you probably already own. It’s surreal
This was my first Devil May Cry game and I played it when I was 12 and I absolutely loved it. I was blown away by it since i never played an over-the-top game like this in my life.
J is easily the more credible reviewer in my opinion at least. Mayo misrepresents the games he reviews a lot to prove some arbitrary pessimist issue that never exists.
I have a feeling Mayo will just use DMC1 and 2 as his 1st impression to say the series is overrated by the end of the marathon. Not to judge, but he's known to missunderstand the fundamental value of mechanics in action games and why they exist. His notorious Doom Eternal review (an FPS game, but also fast-paced and action-heavy) shows that off. Edit: I know mayo's watched this video, but that's unfortunately the vibe I get from your content.
@@leithaziz2716 his entire video about style meters was an agonizing hogwash of hypocritical nothing-burger points, and by the end of it I just quit watching his channel. I mean it is something else to have different opinions, but to misrepresent something in from of such a large audience just to make a non existent point is kinda shitty.
I'll never forget playing 30 minutes of the game just to experience why this game was so bad when I bought the HD collection. I decided to keep playing and to my utter shock I finished the game in 2 hours and 45 minutes. Would have been faster but Dante decided to walk for no reason during a segment where I needed to get to a door before it closed. Also the forced lock on I didn't know I could disable preventing me from hitting some switches.
Fun fact, a year ago my best friend was making an essay for his class about the History of how Hack and Slash Video Games started and evolved over time, he finished DMC1 awhile ago and hadn't touched much of DMC2 since he was saving it for a livestream with a friend of his that wanted to see him play DMC2, so he told me of his entire journey, and I told him DMC2 sucked and I literally quit the game on the third Mission and went directly to DMC3, and told him to skip DMC2 and go to 3, he was surprised to hear that but didn't expect it to be that bad and that maybe it's just DMC1 but slightly worse. Fast forward days later and he comes to my house to try out the DMC Collection, he started with DMC2 and felt the game was... off in some way, I explained to him why (mainly the combat being slow and not that satisfying feeling), and he thought it was similar to how DMC1 did it, so it wasn't that bad (he was going off on a semi distant memory of DMC1's gameplay). Then after beating DMC2's first boss he went to DMC1, and BOY did he immediately notice DMC1's combat felt so much better than DMC2's, he was now starting to get how much of a difference it was and how DMC2 just wasn't good; and then he tried out DMC3 in the end, and that one blew his mind off (in a good way, lol) to the point that he now said "Yeah no, DMC2 sucks, there's no way around it. I am no longer livestreaming DMC2 with my friend, I am going for DMC3 right away."
If your friend has an extended interest in the hack 'n slash or character action or whatever-the-name-is genre, maybe the following titles may be of interest to him, if not to play then to research for fun: - Knight's Contract (very obscure one) - Dante's Inferno - Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death (these two are very much in line with Greek GOW's gameplay) - The Darksiders series (Bleedin' love 'em) - Heavenly Sword And more recently: - Astral Chain - Soulstice by Reply Game Studios (quite a good one!) - Genokids (upcoming game) - Enenra (upcoming game). Yasuke: A Lost Descendant may fit in here as well. (and for semi-joke's sake, Sonic Unleashed for the Werehog gameplay --though mind the differences between consoles-- and The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon). I'm leaving out the most known ones aside from DMC, such as God of War, Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, exactly because they are the most known. That all aside, i hope the essay went well for him.
Might not wnat to forget Nier Automata. It might be akward to show to a class on 1st impression, but it does have the best narrative in the action genre. Very emotional game.
I'd like to see less Nero. When they said Nero wasn't going to replace Dante before DMC4 came out was an obvious lie to me, but they couldn't replace Dante because of his fans (mainly in Japan, I feel). Being another Dante isn't going to have him carry the series. I think it will go the way of Bayonetta trying to replace her with her daughter. Not great.
Not by current Crapcom. If they couldn't/wouldn't touch it up later on like they did with DMC 4, they never will. Soon as they fail at something, they will move on. They couldn't give up entirely on such a big IP, which was a smart decision, yet never going back to fix it with the remaster was laziness and nonsensical.
this upload couldnt have come at a better time! i just finished this game yesterday and the first thing i said was "i dont think i will EVER pick this game up again." its not the worst game ever i guess, but if it wasnt a dmc title i would have never given it the courtesy of completing the whole game. it was just a drag to get through.
The most hilarious experience I had was buying a DMC2 strategy guide at a local Wal-Mart (mostly for the poster) and being "carded" for it at the register. (I'm not kidding)
I am not a huge fan of this game. I only played it once, but I do not think it deserves all the hate it got. I played it when new. I got the greatest hits version of one and loved it. Saw two on the shelf soon after was just happy to be playing as Dante again.
If some thug kidnapped me and held me at gunpoint and said which game would I play between DMC2 or Mega Man X7 to save my own damn life. It would be DMC2.
Honestly when I got to the infested tanks and infested chopper, I almost stopped playing. I thought "There's no way these enemies were made for this game", I assumed they were just leftover assets Capcom had on hand and they just thought 'yeah put it in DMC'
yep without DMC 2 i doubt Itsuno would have ever had the motivation to make DMC 3, just because he did not want to go down in history as the guy who made DMC 2
Devil may 2 could’ve been the death of the franchise but then we got devil may cry 3 and it was saved we could not have been the same without the franchise and I happy for them to save the franchise with devil may cry 3
King? Yeah! Here's your crown. Still the coolest thing ever. Second coolest thing is the last moment of the last boss fight when the boss looks around confused and suddenly Dante holds his guns to his head, strikes a cool pose and shoots. Sadly these awesome moments got wasted in a bad and boring game.
To think this was the same Dante who said "Don't talk, just die" before the trismagia boss fight. Seriously, it's as if a 12 year old wrote that line. Probably the same 12 year old who described Dante as the 'walking epitome of cool' in the DMC2 manual
@@Mick2K That works good. But if you pay attention during the Argosax fight just before Dante shoots him there's a close-up of his mouth as if he's about to say something just before shooting but he just... doesn't? Like that should be the Jackpot right there
DMC2 was actually one of my very first PS2 games ever since the day I got my first one clear back somewhere in early middle school or so. (Brain's a bit fuzzy on exact dates at this point in time.) Was excited because it was the first of the DMC games I could get a hold of at the time while also wanting to play the first one really bad myself but not having a means to get a hold of it for a while yet still, and while nowadays I can see what's up with the details of the game's history & whatnot, I'm almost a bit thankful I got to play that one first before the others since it just meant everything was gonna be going up from there as I got to play more of em later on down the line in my life. Tbh, if Capcom has the brass for doing it again, might as well give 2 a full remaster/remake treatment and have it become what the original hopes for 2 couldn't be & then taking it even further beyond somehow.
12:57 I wonder if thats where Sonic Team got the idea for making the Sonic Boom move in Frontiers OP as all hell. I know I said upon first seeing combat in Frontiers showing off the possibilities of air juggle, come a DMC styled combat system! But taking from DMC2 was not what I had in mind. Talk about a total Monkey's Paw moment 😆😅
Man, dmc2 was my first DMC. Was so blown away why people hated it… got the first DMC as fast as a could cause of how much I loved Dmc2. One level in and was like “oh that’s why people hate 2”
I kind of hope they bring back Lu'Cia some day to try and redeem something from this game. 4 did the story of a human trying to gain the power of demons as well and showed that story can work in DMC. Just, leave the underwater combat behind.
Dante in this game reminds me of deadpool from x-men origins "Hey this character who's usually just fine talking plenty? Yeah no shut him up it'll make him cooler." it did not.
Dante didn't talk all the time in the first game, just sassed bosses. Back then it showed the game was leaning into the more gothic, darker theme and time went onward. The only reason he keeps yammering so much now is because of DMC3 being successful, so that became his persona. No one complains about Vergil having the somber, serious personality, so it just seems like a silly complaint from people. Capcom just used their usual red/blue archetype characterization, used often in anime and other games.
What is goddamn coincidence you and Underthemayo is not only reviewing the same two games but upload the vid on the same day, aye J be honest, you doing this on purpose with the upload timing? 😆

I think DMC2 needs a remake or the OG game needs a improve overhaul rebalance special edition, Improve the combat and gameplay, Add in boss intros or flavor text and cutscene introductions to the other bosses or mini ones.
Honestly I will revisit this game from time to time because I love Lucia and think she's so underrated! But the game itself is a big bag of MEH sadly! I'm going to check out that mod though that looks great!!!
Trish is also completely OP. You can unlock her by winning on hard mode and then blaze through the highest difficulty even more easily than the game on normal mode.
I will forever be thankful to DMC2 for existing. I saw an ad for it in a gaming magazine and it looked cool. I hadn't played DMC1. I was way too young, like 5 or 6, when my dad bought it for me, and because my gaming experience before this was Spyro and Spider-Man I didn't notice it wasn't hard. I went on to get the others, and loving those too, specifically 3. going back to 2 I see the flaws, but I wouldn't have the same tastes I have today in games if I had never gotten DMC2.
@@Braylon1997 my expirence with it isn’t that it’s easy…..it’s fucking hard when I put effort to play it as a regular DMC game….i defended it when it first got it on my Switch and to add to that it was so fucking ass I just dropped it around the first phase of Argosax
Honestly, if I had made this game to be as good as its predecessor, then here’s how I would fix it. Have Trish to appear as an important character to the story. Where it’s been 5 years since Dante defeated Mundus, while saving her. The two are an actual couple. They been hunting Demons, until the two retire & got married, while moving to a safe location. That is until Dante got a call about what’s going on this game. So he & Trish decided to go on one last mission, not just as partners. But as lovers. The two meet Lucia, while fighting Demons. Dante does have some character development since the first game. Lucia takes them to meet her mother. We get a flashback of Sparda & what he was like back then. Dante remembers what a great father he was to him & Vergil. We do see a flashback of when he lost both his mother & brother to Mundus, while recalling the events on Mallet Island. Over the corse of the game, he gets even more stronger than before. The bosses are as tough as the ones from the first game. Trish gets even stronger, as it’s revealed that Mundus give her secret hidden abilities she was unaware of. Like transforming into a sexy Demon, with Angel Wings, which is her Devil Trigger. She accompany’s Dante on every mission, while being hunted by the mistakes she made, while serving Mundus, who was like a father who never cares for his own children. So Dante reminds her that even Devils never Cry, some Devils like her do Cry because of something they did. He even explains that their relationship is similar to the one his parents had a long time ago. Dante is being hunted by the fact he was force to kill his own brother to kill Mundus. We do get some interactions between Dante & all the bosses he goes against. We get moments with Bolverk, who once lost to Sparda once, & wants revenge. Lucia is not one of Arius’s creations, who Matier raised as her own daughter. Trish confesses to Dante, which she been wanting to tell him, before they took this job. Dante is surprised that the girl who was made to look like his mother, who cherish most in the world. Is pregnant with his baby. He always thought that he be better off, not being the kind of father that his old man once was. He remembers how Sparda himself died. As they go up against Arius. Dante, along with Trish & Lucia(who isn’t a playable character in this game), defeated Arius together. As Argosax is resurrected. Dante was given the Sparda sword, that Trish had throughout the game. She even did had Alistor as one of her weapons. Before he dives into the underworld to face the ancient Demon God. He tells Trish that if he doesn’t come back. She must do whatever it takes for their baby to grow up with a family. He even asks Lucia to take care of his family, while making her his replacement for his hunting business. With the Sparda sword in his hand. Dante transforms into his father’s image again, to defeat Argosax, which was as epic as it was with Mundus. The game ends with him wondering the endless ways of the underworld. Remembering the promise he made to Trish, the night got married, that his bloodline must live on. We get a sex sequence between him & Trish. He said to himself that whatever happens. He will return someday. We get a post credit scene with Trish being 8 months pregnant with Dante’s baby. She sings an old lullaby that her late mother in law once sing to him & to Vergil when they were kids. Lucia was also there with her, being ask to be the godmother of her little Demon. Which Lucia accepts.
Firstly, I love your new video release motto. I think it leads series to breath and keep you motivated. Secondly, this is probably the best review of DMC2 I have seen. Since you also have experience with the high level tech. One thing I personally love about DMC2 is the enemy designs and the concept art. Especially the wolf ice boss (I gave up at mission 5)
Finally, we get to this point. Can't express the amount of time I feel I've been waiting for these re-restrospectives since watching the Jak and Uncharted ones.
Things always go south when someone working on these titles doesn't understand Dante's appeal and decides to change his personality. And history will repeat itself years later with the DmC reboot.
These are the types of games that lend themselves perfectly for a remake. Dmc2 is a bad game but it's designs, style and esthetics are beyond sharp, it deserves new shot.
The worst thing entertainment be it a movie or game can do is be boring. Sure Dante and his majin dt LOOKS cool attire and hair wise too but thats just wallpaper.
Did not know about the mod, but I'm now interesting in checking it out, if only to see what someone can do with the game to change it onto something more polished, refined, maybe even... BETTER? Than it currently is. So thanks for the tip!

And though not a character action game, Pseudo from Clash: Artifacts of Chaos is a good one too.
This is boring, and I get cranky when I'm bored."
Followed by the bird on his shoulder simply saying "It's true."
The worst part os that dmc2 has the coolest looking dante. Also the false coin line is fucking dope.
If you want this Dante design with his old personality and the coin, play SMT nocturne,or at least look up the Dante cutscenes

It’s funny this game is considered to be so bad because it was one of the first ps2 games I ever played. the graphics and enemy designs wowed me as a kid.
That's wholesome
Can't be as bad as:
Superman 64
Aquaman on Gamecube
Batman Forever on the original Gameboy (terrible SNES game ported with fewer buttons to use)
Lester the Unlikely
Conan the Barbarian (NES)
The Rocketeer (SNES)
Cheetahmen (Mega Drive/Genesis)
Mega Man X7 Review reference right off the bat, I'm sold.
DMC2 is a lesson on how not bring in a new team who knows nothing about an established series to work on it and not having the OG around.
"Established series" lol fck off. It's literally the second game in a series that had just started. Nothing really established yet, not even close.
"Established series" lol f off
It's literally the second game in a series that had just started.
Nothing established yet, not even close.
The art design for DMC2 is actually kind of cool
Fun Fact: SMT Nocturne's famous maniax release on the PS2 has the Dante from this game in it, and if you remembered the coin was the same on each side you can get him as a party member for 1 Macca, whereas if you guess wrong you'll have to pay 1 million to get him. Not only that, he actually behaves like the Dante we all know and love.
i love that the villain never even checks the coin to ensure its the very specific, one of a kind coin he needs. no he just trusts that the enemy gave him the right coin.
I will say the false coin lines kinda sick thought. They made dante look sick have a couple bad ass lines and moments but then he says nothing else.
I noticed this was the same intro you did for Mega Man X7
And they both from 2003
indeed
That and he did replicate the same thumbnail from Megaman X7. Dante looking at you in the thumbnail and In the X7 thumbnail, Zero X and Axl looking at us.
X7 and dmc2 are both from Capcom, both came out in 2003, both slow and boring, both hated
I love that I instantly knew it was referring to that review too
It's really unfortunate that DMC2 ended up as rough as it did.
Positive things about DMC2
- Dante's looks
- Lucia's ass
- "Here's your crown"
Probably Dante’s best fit 🔥
Can't wait to see your retrospective video of DMC3.
If I remember correctly it was Devil May Cry 2 that got me to play Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence.
I bought a copy of DM2 and finished Disc 1/Dante's Missions in just 1 or 2 days.
The next day I found out Disc 2/Lucia's Missions won't boot up so I returned to the game store and, fortunately, they agreed to exchange it with MGS3: Subsistence.
Best trade ever
This game sure grew worse for me as the years went on. I would rather play the Reboot game than this one - which I find overhated and not as exaggerating-ly bad as its made out to be.
Devil May Cry 2 is not the worst game ever made, but its a really bad Devil May Cry installment. If Capcom ever gives Devil May Cry 1 or 2 a remake someday like they do Resident Evil. Please redeem Devil May Cry 2 because this games ideas could sure use a full retooling...
Dmc 2 is not funny bad, nor is it broken bad. It's just boring and too easy. A game being boring is the worst a game could be imo.
24:12 "SAD" that perfectly explains this game
The thing is there’s so much of the aesthetic of DMC2 I enjoyed then and now, like the enemy designs and the blend of old European architecture and corporate America
Shame about the slow gameplay and weirdly silent Dante
Wow, J you convinced me yet again that another game I would otherwise think was meh is awful. For real, that takes talent man. It is one hell of a miracle DMC even became a franchise after this. We can only attribute that to the success of the first game, not really the second.
Dude, seriously? Again? Same day????
And we both quit at mission 14 that's hilarious. Are we connected?
Seriously, now we just gotta see what happens for DMC3 lol
Or...
You could both collab for DMC3, and then we all win, and you don't have to guess anymore :)
I watched both back to back, good work you two. This game blows lol.
@@limitedelady oh god no please.
Mayo and J collabbing that'd be kickass.
The same day as under the mayo
Yep.
@@kimetsunoacademia3528Mayo compared DMC2 to Ultrakill in his new video 💀
If your friend has an extended interest in the hack 'n slash or character action or whatever-the-name-is genre, maybe the following titles may be of interest to him, if not to play then to research for fun:
- Knight's Contract (very obscure one)
- Dante's Inferno
- Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death (these two are very much in line with Greek GOW's gameplay)
- The Darksiders series (Bleedin' love 'em)
- Heavenly Sword
And more recently:
- Astral Chain
- Soulstice by Reply Game Studios (quite a good one!)
- Genokids (upcoming game)
- Enenra (upcoming game).
I really hope Lucia comes back in DMC6. I'd love to see her and Nero become demon-hunting partners. Maybe a DLC that focuses on Vie de Marli?
I'd like to see less Nero. When they said Nero wasn't going to replace Dante before DMC4 came out was an obvious lie to me, but they couldn't replace Dante because of his fans (mainly in Japan, I feel). Being another Dante isn't going to have him carry the series. I think it will go the way of Bayonetta trying to replace her with her daughter. Not great.
I’m hoping the same thing with Patty. She would be more of a little sister to Nero.
Were fans really upset Trish wasn't playable in DMC 1? The only time I hear this is when 2 is discussed.
1:11 the way you slung the demon to the cameraman made me laugh!
This game needs a remake so bad
Not by current Crapcom. If they couldn't/wouldn't touch it up later on like they did with DMC 4, they never will. Soon as they fail at something, they will move on. They couldn't give up entirely on such a big IP, which was a smart decision, yet never going back to fix it with the remaster was laziness and nonsensical.
Not by current Capcom? The same current Capcom that gave us RE4 remake? Are you smoking?
@@3Guys1VideoHe did give some valid points tho. They re-released DMC4 and fixed nothing about it and sold it full price.
3:49 Plankton's reference lmao
I know literally nothing about the Devil May Cry series, but it was a neat video lol
The only thing I like about this game is the fact that the red orbs looks like Behelits
I think Itsuno and his team should remake DMC2, it’s the only real stain on his reputation despite it not being his fault.
this upload couldnt have come at a better time!
i just finished this game yesterday and the first thing i said was "i dont think i will EVER pick this game up again." its not the worst game ever i guess, but if it wasnt a dmc title i would have never given it the courtesy of completing the whole game. it was just a drag to get through.
I love these short, sub hour long ultimate retrospectives. Who needs an eight hour long in depth breakdown and analysis?
The most hilarious experience I had was buying a DMC2 strategy guide at a local Wal-Mart (mostly for the poster) and being "carded" for it at the register. (I'm not kidding)
I am not a huge fan of this game. I only played it once, but I do not think it deserves all the hate it got. I played it when new. I got the greatest hits version of one and loved it. Saw two on the shelf soon after was just happy to be playing as Dante again.
Can't believe the slow speed, the area emptiness, the slower enemy and the tedious attack are shared with Megaman X7 like it can't be a coincidence
If some thug kidnapped me and held me at gunpoint and said which game would I play between DMC2 or Mega Man X7 to save my own damn life.
It would be DMC2.
"pls plae deemc2" they said 😔
"Donte is good and bets in geaem!" They said.
Hello fellow Vinesauce enjoyers
To be fair, Vendetta looks pretty cool making it the best sword
as a person who enjoyed DMC 2, I can confirm it is a bad DMC game
Honestly when I got to the infested tanks and infested chopper, I almost stopped playing. I thought "There's no way these enemies were made for this game", I assumed they were just leftover assets Capcom had on hand and they just thought 'yeah put it in DMC'
Every dmc game has a purpose and were necessary sort of like a canon event
yep without DMC 2 i doubt Itsuno would have ever had the motivation to make DMC 3, just because he did not want to go down in history as the guy who made DMC 2
Devil may 2 could’ve been the death of the franchise but then we got devil may cry 3 and it was saved we could not have been the same without the franchise and I happy for them to save the franchise with devil may cry 3
I just realized I have never heard anyone pronounce Jokatgulm in my entire life
King?
But the lack of the iconic "Jackpot" should be a crime
To think this was the same Dante who said "Don't talk, just die" before the trismagia boss fight. Seriously, it's as if a 12 year old wrote that line. Probably the same 12 year old who described Dante as the 'walking epitome of cool' in the DMC2 manual
@@kermit4036 I was supposed to be the winner of this fight....!
Winner? Yeah! Here's your jackpot.

@@Mick2K That works good. But if you pay attention during the Argosax fight just before Dante shoots him there's a close-up of his mouth as if he's about to say something just before shooting but he just... doesn't? Like that should be the Jackpot right there
My second favorite dmc2 gamer/RUclipsr
The whole vibe of this game is "bad direct-to-video sequel from the 90s/00s" and it's kind of amusing in that respect.
Besides the fish one cracked me up really bad for no reason
I kind of hope they bring back Lu'Cia some day to try and redeem something from this game. 4 did the story of a human trying to gain the power of demons as well and showed that story can work in DMC. Just, leave the underwater combat behind.
Honestly Dmc2 had alot of potential. Great concept. If they remake and fix it, I'd say it could be one of the best.
Dante in this game reminds me of deadpool from x-men origins
"Hey this character who's usually just fine talking plenty? Yeah no shut him up it'll make him cooler." it did not.
Dante didn't talk all the time in the first game, just sassed bosses. Back then it showed the game was leaning into the more gothic, darker theme and time went onward. The only reason he keeps yammering so much now is because of DMC3 being successful, so that became his persona. No one complains about Vergil having the somber, serious personality, so it just seems like a silly complaint from people. Capcom just used their usual red/blue archetype characterization, used often in anime and other games.
Its really not that bad lol
As soon as I saw the title "worst game ever" I was like: "It's up against *Big Rigs.* How can you top it?"
DMC2 is still, to this day, the only DMC game I have platinumed, for the sole reason that I would never have a reason to play it ever again.
Duuude you and Mayo need to collab for DMC3.
I was bored one summer and beat dmc2 with a fresh game on dmd mode. It made it kinda of fun.
I have a video idea recommendation for the future: Can you do a retrospective on the silent Hill games?
What is goddamn coincidence you and Underthemayo is not only reviewing the same two games but upload the vid on the same day, aye J be honest, you doing this on purpose with the upload timing? 😆
If you think DMC2 is a bad Capcom game, then you haven't played Chaos Legion mad by the same team.

I rescind my comment on your last review we are gonna get a collective 3 hour retrospective. this could be longer tho
Man Dmc3 was such a bounceback. Dmc1 was good but Dmc nearly killed the series.
I think DMC2 needs a remake or the OG game needs a improve overhaul rebalance special edition,
Improve the combat and gameplay, Add in boss intros or flavor text and cutscene introductions to the other bosses or mini ones.
compared to drake of the 99 dragons, dmc 2 looks masterpiece.
Everyone knows Dante got to the oil rig via the motorcycle. That things legit. Ps Uroboros on the heli makes me think of re5
Whilst this game blows, At least it soundtrack Bangs.

Should I get the Dmc HD edition? I only played dmc 5 so far which I loved and I want to get into the rest of the series!
DO IT, it's cheap as hell and DMC 3 alone is worth it. DMC 1 is more of an acquired taste if you give it the time to immerse you.
Are you and Under the Mayo planning these dmc2 releases?

I’m an idiot sometimes but not even I could mess that up so badly.
