DMC 3 will be amazing, whether another video is done 17 years later or a hundred years later. Music, gameplay, voice acting, pacing, difficulty........wrapped up in a bloody, stylish package and nails the air hike landing perfectly. Kids these days have to contend with half complete buggy games filled with microtransactions, drip fed content via live service "seasons", and empty apologies via community updates when devs screw up (which is the norm now days) Not saying the era of DMC 3 video game development was perfect (oh god no HELL NO) but we got to grow up with some of the best games ever released (which DMC 3 is part of imo). I'll wear my nostalgia glasses proudly on this one.
Would you care to share a bit why that is? Genuine question because I only recently played DMC 3 for the first time but I have no intention to play it on DMD for now (or ever, I played DMC5 on DMD a few months ago and that's enough for me for now).
I will say there is a mod that gives you all the stuff from the switch version and then some (being able to switch your entire character on the fly which is just insane, but if youre at that level, more power to ya) so personally i'd recommend just picking it up on pc and getting that mod (Just in regards to his recommendation to pick it up on switch)
Funny thing about the bloodgoyles, there's a limit on how many times they can split, so you can totally kill them without firing your guns even once, it'll just take a while.
The first time I played this game I was 11 or 12 years old. I saw the Special Edition version of the game for PS2 on a store shelf and I begged my dad to get it for me, just because the cover of it was so cool. I barely managed to play through the whole thing on Normal after many, many deaths, but no matter how much I was getting my ass kicked, I wanted to beat it. It was just too damn fun to give up on. When I did eventually beat it I felt like a god lol, still the most gratifying feeling I've ever had after beating a game. Definitely one of my favorite games ever. Great video
Fun fact Vergil has gimmick that you can abuse, which is that he can use his projectile and physical attacks at the same time. Try it, its a whole different experience.
Great video! And about the tentacle slugs on the Arkham boss fight, I’ve found that the Kalina Ann is the best weapon against them. It only takes one shot to take them out and you might take more than one out with an explosion.
Playing as Nelo Angelo using corrupt Vergil was awesome. I think I’ve enjoyed this DMC the most out of all six. But I agree with all the negatives you mentioned. Getting the platinum for this game was a battle of attrition. I had to use Super Dante and cheeses my way through Arkham with Large Vitality stars on DMD. Mad respect for all the players that beat the game on DMD with no healing items and all SS ranks.
They played Hideki Kamiya dirty with DMC2. I will never understand why they would make DMC2 without even telling him. He’s the reason why DMC1 was so incredible, and they gave DMC2 to a random lead developer who quit (which is why they brought in Itsuno). Don’t get me wrong, Itsuno made DMC into the incredible franchise it is today, but I can’t help to wonder “what if”. What if Kamiya had been allowed to make DMC2 with his vision in mind. They’ve interviewed him and he explains how he felt betrayed by Capcom for doing this, and I have no doubt we would have gotten something special with him at the helm. We would have had a completely different game franchise altogether, and I wonder what direction that would have been…
17 years later, still the peak of gaming, and the most video game to ever video game. Absolutely love this game,it was even the one that got me into playing video games to begin with lol
5:04 The PC version through Steam with mods actually has almost all of the new content introduced on Switch through DDMK, and mods also fix some minor graphical issues(most noticeably, Dante’s hair transparency was broken with the redrawn texture used for it)
DMC3 is a fantastic game and to this day still holds up pretty well. I got into the series only a few years ago, after 5's release. I bought the HD collection, enjoyed 1 for what it was but it definitely aged the worst out of all the other games, 2 was....an experience to say the least, and then I played 3. 3 was what truly got me hooked into the series, it's such a massive glowup from the first two games that it's unreal. And now Devil May Cry has become one of my favorite video game franchises of all time. My proudest achievement so far in the entire franchise is managing to S rank mission 20 for my first playthrough. I chose Yellow instead of Gold mode at the start not knowing the difference, which meant Gold Orbs were a lot weaker than in Gold mode for my entire playthrough. So I just ended up restarting the mission from the start every time I failed, and since mission 20 is just the fight against Vergil it's not like there was any lost progress. After about an hour of attempts I got so good at the final Vergil fight that when I finally beat him, I got an S rank, my first ever in the game. Gonna get to those higher difficulty playthroughs after I do the same for 1 and 2.
This game and God of War INVENTED the very foundations of what a turbulent adrenaline rush Hack and Slash **is** .. This has to be the greatest HnS ever made. Although God of War 2 or 3 is very close to my heart
Quick nitpick, Dante's High Roller is just High Time. This isn't the first DMC3 analysis video I've seen but the story is just that good that I don't really tire of hearing about it. One, more like two, points I don't seem addressed to often is how DMC3 is the only DMC that incorporates elemental damage and weapon type damage like the chess pieces being weak to Beowulf/Cerberus because they're blunt.
Ive been replaying and just noticed the elemental damage! Like the spiders getting caught on fire. Very interesting! While this may of disappeared in DMC it does get expanded upon in Dragon's Dogma actually, which I find interesting.
28:50 Oh you right, when I played the game I actually breezed thought the boss in a copple of hours. Meanwhile, I bought Special edition eventually I borrowed my DMC3 copy to a friend, when I went to get it back, he told me he never managed beat Cerberus. And for some reason I tryd his save data and I also couldn't beat it, toke us a few hours till I finally manage it... I don't understand what went wrong there, like I was plying DANTE MUST DIE at that point in my other copy... lol. But you might be right, the limitations of "starting out" are huge when you are forced to face a boss like that.
One thing to mention with doppelganger is that it allows for multiplayer. If you have two controllers active you can press I think start button, and it allows another person to control the shadow.
this is one of my all time favorite games, it's simply amazing. I always recommend this one to every single human being, it's such a journey and works as an standalone great.
Not sure if a lot of people have said this or know this, but you can actually control doppelganger with p2 controller on PS2. (This also works with Vergil in the boss battle against 'Sparta'.) That means it's not useless. It's co-op.
Although I still love this game very much, I have been playing it recently, and I must say the camera is my one gripe with this game. It's not quite as bad as the camera in 1 since it is dynamic rather than fixed, but there are still a good plenty of scenarios where the camera shifting takes a big shit on your line of sight from your enemies. Just take the Agni and Rudra fight for example.
Love the video. One tip for the Arkham fight, I find spamming Kalina Ann at the small demon fishes eliminates them in large numbers. Not great for style points but very helpful for sanity rankings. Also the Switch version of DMC3 includes co-op Bloody Palace which is insanely fun, although very strange in boss battles because it switches from a camera that zooms in and out to show both players to split screen cameras. Probably something about how they couldn't get the camera to work the same way in multiple arenas.
l was 3 years old wen it came out it's kind of crazy to think that l played this game 4 or 5 years after it realised maybe thats why l thought that the graphics were really good😃
This game is as old as me and I've never heard of it until recently and as far as I've gotten, I can safely say it's definitely harder than any other hack and slasher games I've ever played
When I played dmc 3, I learned you can replay missions as soon as you beat them the first time. To level up the styles I just kept replaying like the first 2 or 3 missions over and over again. I think it took me like 5 mission repeats to level them up to 2 and another 10 to completely level them up? I don't remember though. I also farmed red orbs this way as well. I focused on the gunslinger and swordmaster styles due to how much they can affect a playstyle.
You know you're fucking old when you look at the title of this video and the memory of the day of DMC 3's release still fresh in your mind. Anyway. Even though its been years since I've played this. This game still stands as one of the best of all time. If not the best hack&slash. I actually think DMC 3 tops any God of War in terms of general quality.
Alright 2 years late but here I am. Two small tips I've found, 1, for soul eaters, use spiral, high damage in one shot and you can easily use it from range, and one of the big ones, the slugs in arkhams fight, kalina ann, absolutely crushes them, it's not a fun solution, since you basically just jump in circles and shoot, but it works and you rarely get hit if you just jump/roll and shoot Hope that helps if anyone comes back to the 2 year old video
Virgil is the reason the story is good, just like zero to megaman X, capcom is the ABSOLUTE BEST at giving a rival or aspiration to live up to in a character
Narrative wise I understand. Like a souls game Arkham fight conveys story through gameplay. Dante and Vergil together don’t need DT to fight someone as weak as Arkham. That together they would be unstoppable. Having said that however, fuck the Arkham fight. He’s the only reason I don’t like playing DMD. He just has SO much health in that phase once Vergil comes in
Great look over DMC3. Certainly one I had a lot of fun with, even if I played 1 enough prior to really trying 3 to kind of prefer 1. Side note: my personal favorite weapon pairing is Cerberus with Agni & Rudra. Would still very much like a video on DMC2 at some point. There’s a ton to discuss around that train wreck. I feel the “Dante lacking his charm” thing you mentioned is worth noting, as, while maybe dumbed down, it wasn’t Dante, but the world around him that lacked that charm. Kinda like Shadow the Hedgehog: I think Shadow himself kind of pulled off the edge his game was going for, but the game around him really didn’t.
A strategy that worked for me on killing the tentacle things is running back abit and firing kalina ann at them, for the most part it worked on taking most of them out
Back then i used to visit my cousin's house to play together, and most of the time dmc 3 was our choice. Doppleganger allowed us to play together which made me like this style.
After playing Elden Ring I see Bloodhound Step(Trickster), Doppelganger(Mimic Tear), Royal Guard Release(Guard Counter) and basically Vergil like sorceries and Moonveil. I'm not saying they copied this all but it's cool to see that these games share so many mechanics in common now.
Doppleganger wasn't useless at all if you had the unlimited devil meter costume, 2 controllers, and a second person to play with. You basically unlocked 2 player mode.
still the most sasfying action game in the business. Beats out all the DMCs and Bayonetta for me personally. Slap on a style switcher mod or play the nintendo switch version and you have got hands down the best character action game you will ever play. Devil may 5 almost beat it out for me but 3 has a special sauce I cant explain.
Hey! About the Arkham fight when he turns into dolphins, just spam Kalina Ann or the rocket launcher. Lady herself says to use it to slay him, the aoe damage helps a lot against him on normal and son of sparda, I’m not sure about DmD though. Hope this helps!
dmc3 changed my life back in the day i was longing for a smash bros like game in actual 3d and dmc3 pretty much was that while gameplaywise, (modded) pc dmc5 is unmatched and will probably never be matched, dmc3 holds a unique place in my heart it fucking deserves a remake!
I agree with most of your points except the Arkham boss comment. Its actually my favorite boss in the game you're supposed to use Ladys gun to shoot the worms and use it as crowd control it makes it 100x easy . And it's still fine even if you play as virgil he also has crowd control moves

@@LeahLovesNature Definitely the right move. You really don't want to see el Donte el exterminador de demonios or abortion gun Virgin.
@@LeahLovesNature I hear that gameplay-wise, the reboot is more enjoyable than DMC2. The updated version of the reboot at least.
@@ultraspinalki11 Maybe, but I value story in games more than I value game-play, especially since I usually experience video games by watching them on RUclips instead of playing them myself (mostly because I don't have the time or money for all the games and consoles that interest me).
From Foxcade, having Summon Swords on one of the shoulder button makes Vergil extremely broken and feels more natural than having it on the default shoot button
10:50 I mean, Reuben was the voice director of the game and was heavily involved with the story so of course he nailed it
DMC 3 will be amazing, whether another video is done 17 years later or a hundred years later. Music, gameplay, voice acting, pacing, difficulty........wrapped up in a bloody, stylish package and nails the air hike landing perfectly.
Kids these days have to contend with half complete buggy games filled with microtransactions, drip fed content via live service "seasons", and empty apologies via community updates when devs screw up (which is the norm now days)
Not saying the era of DMC 3 video game development was perfect (oh god no HELL NO) but we got to grow up with some of the best games ever released (which DMC 3 is part of imo). I'll wear my nostalgia glasses proudly on this one.
Fax, fax, and fax
Nothing beats a SSS on DMD on dmc3
Love this game
Would you care to share a bit why that is? Genuine question because I only recently played DMC 3 for the first time but I have no intention to play it on DMD for now (or ever, I played DMC5 on DMD a few months ago and that's enough for me for now).
@@malafakka8530 well, enemies have more hp and that makes the combos being longer possible
@@dxrbkn5145 okay, I thought that there might have been more to it.
If DMC3 had style switch mid combat like DMC4, it would be perfect.
it has, on the switch port.
So it's perfect..?
And more movesets of Vergil like judgement cut storm and blue barrier
Lack of style switch was the biggest flaw of the game.
@@ps4games164 and also shitty enemies
i remember playing this for the first time on ps2 and i thought the opening scene was the coolest thing ever happened in a video game
I will say there is a mod that gives you all the stuff from the switch version and then some (being able to switch your entire character on the fly which is just insane, but if youre at that level, more power to ya) so personally i'd recommend just picking it up on pc and getting that mod
(Just in regards to his recommendation to pick it up on switch)
To this day I still wonder why a lot of the new features for Devil May Cry 3 are exclusive to the Switch
Maybe they had more practice after DMC5?
Funny thing about the bloodgoyles, there's a limit on how many times they can split, so you can totally kill them without firing your guns even once, it'll just take a while.
A full DTE will wipe them out
@@raulramirez9657 I never even considered trying that against them, even tho I use that strategy against the chess pieces
Agni & Rudra were my EVERYTHING
The first time I played this game I was 11 or 12 years old. I saw the Special Edition version of the game for PS2 on a store shelf and I begged my dad to get it for me, just because the cover of it was so cool. I barely managed to play through the whole thing on Normal after many, many deaths, but no matter how much I was getting my ass kicked, I wanted to beat it. It was just too damn fun to give up on. When I did eventually beat it I felt like a god lol, still the most gratifying feeling I've ever had after beating a game. Definitely one of my favorite games ever. Great video
to deal with the nubby slugs,
I remember spamming rocket launcher at them which does a lot of AOE damage
This was a fantastic analysis, but oh my goodness the whiplash I felt when you referred to Lady as Mary the whole way through.
You forgot to mention doppelganger allows 2 players, you also forgot to mention the boss battle where vergil jumps in is also 2 players
Fun fact
Vergil has gimmick that you can abuse, which is that he can use his projectile and physical attacks at the same time. Try it, its a whole different experience.
Oh I cannot WAIT for you to cover DMC: Devil May Cry
te best way to deal with arkham minions is to use the bazooka
Great video!
And about the tentacle slugs on the Arkham boss fight, I’ve found that the Kalina Ann is the best weapon against them. It only takes one shot to take them out and you might take more than one out with an explosion.
was just rewathing the dmc1 video and boom just in time you come out with this
I'm writing an essay on dmc and this really helps
The best part about the Arkham fight was having my sister plug in a second controller and use vergil
I do not lie when I say I just watched your previous dmc video a few days ago. this makes me happy
17 years... Oh boy. Even after all those years, devil may cry still has some of the most powerful moments of adrenaline I can remember.
Her name is Lady.
She made that VERY clear in the game the ONLY time the other name is mentioned.
it still holds up
They played Hideki Kamiya dirty with DMC2.
We would have had a completely different game franchise altogether, and I wonder what direction that would have been…
Years later I still play this regularly on the switch
The spinning attack on Cerberus is really good for stun locking multiple enemies
DMC1 held up better than I thought it would
This game and God of War INVENTED the very foundations of what a turbulent adrenaline rush Hack and Slash **is** .. This has to be the greatest HnS ever made. Although God of War 2 or 3 is very close to my heart
Regarding Arkham, the best method dealing with those spawnlings is to use Kalina Ann.
I was today years old when I learned about that. Woah.
Ive been replaying and just noticed the elemental damage! Like the spiders getting caught on fire. Very interesting!
While this may of disappeared in DMC it does get expanded upon in Dragon's Dogma actually, which I find interesting.
Elemental damage was already present in DMC1
Is that SMT:Nocturne's battle music underneath? 🤔
It's not a Shadow, it's more of a 3D Mirage of Dante's Devil Trigger or Doppelganger, heck the move is called Afterimage so it's considered that.
Fun fact: the original release of DMC 3 had the difficulty all mess up and it some cases switch up
fun fact about the doppelganger style, if someone plugs in a separate controller and hits start, they can play as the shadow for as long as it's up!
this is one of my all time favorite games, it's simply amazing. I always recommend this one to every single human being, it's such a journey and works as an standalone great.
Not sure if a lot of people have said this or know this, but you can actually control doppelganger with p2 controller on PS2. (This also works with Vergil in the boss battle against 'Sparta'.)
That means it's not useless.
It’s not nearly as annoying as dmc1 but still challenging enough to keep things interesting imo
Actually you can earn many style points if you jump or roll each time to shoot at the fishes with Kalina Ann
I'm taking a break from playing Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition [Nintendo Switch version] to watch this.
dmc3 came out the same year I was born
l was 3 years old wen it came out it's kind of crazy to think that l played this game 4 or 5 years after it realised maybe thats why l thought that the graphics were really good😃
Use the Kalinna Ann against the eels. Works wonders, just shoot, roll, shoot, roll, etc.
Nam’s Compendium, nice content keep it up dude
For the weird leeches in Arkham's fight you should just use the Kalina Ann while they group up and it will blast most of them in one hit.
Vergil on dmc3 grew on me
31:52 The best I could do is spam Kalinga Ann. It is pretty effective. Though I'm sure there are better strategies.
Nah man that's the only strategy
That's what I did. Fire a rocket, roll, fire, roll. Those dolphin/slug things will go down in seconds.
He just has SO much health in that phase once Vergil comes in
Use Kalina Ann against Arkham's summons.
Ok am I the only one who was overwhelmed by Virgil cold glare reminding me I’m that old?
Will aways be a masterpiece.
How to level up styles - pick heaven or hell difficulty, select mission 18. One shot bosses and quickly level up styles no need to grind.
31:51 Bazooka
Still One of the best action games
A strategy that worked for me on killing the tentacle things is running back abit and firing kalina ann at them, for the most part it worked on taking most of them out
Back then i used to visit my cousin's house to play together, and most of the time dmc 3 was our choice. Doppleganger allowed us to play together which made me like this style.
After playing Elden Ring I see Bloodhound Step(Trickster), Doppelganger(Mimic Tear), Royal Guard Release(Guard Counter) and basically Vergil like sorceries and Moonveil. I'm not saying they copied this all but it's cool to see that these games share so many mechanics in common now.
btw dmc 1 had on the go weapon swithcing, hold right stick down and ya switch on the fly. awesome vid!
Arkham dolphin counter is Kalina Ann rocket launcher. With at least 1 upgrade it oneshots a pack of these dolphins.
I played DMC 3 for the first time a couple of months ago and it’s become my favorite action game, so I’d say it holds up
Working strategy for the fish things in Arkham’s fight is just lock on + Kalina Ann, haven’t tried on difficulties above normal though
Using Kalina ann against the arkham legions is an effective weapon for them
I remember the doppelganger style let you play 2 player. No idea why that was a thing but it was fun
Imagine they start remaking DMC1 and 3 like RE
If you're having trouble with those enemies in the Arkham fight just spam Kalina Anna. It does wonders. Just jump around and spam it.
Just use Kalina Ann to destroy Arkham's dolphin things.
Hey! About the Arkham fight when he turns into dolphins, just spam Kalina Ann or the rocket launcher. Lady herself says to use it to slay him, the aoe damage helps a lot against him on normal and son of sparda, I’m not sure about DmD though. Hope this helps!
You forgot the bloody palace co-op in the switch version. VERY FUN
I’ve watched 20 of these videos Same topic and I always learn something new about Dmc
dmc3 changed my life
back in the day i was longing for a smash bros like game in actual 3d and dmc3 pretty much was that
while gameplaywise, (modded) pc dmc5 is unmatched and will probably never be matched, dmc3 holds a unique place in my heart
it fucking deserves a remake!
I agree with most of your points except the Arkham boss comment.
Its actually my favorite boss in the game you're supposed to use
Ladys gun to shoot the worms and use it as crowd control it makes it 100x easy .
And it's still fine even if you play as virgil he also has crowd control moves
The fact that I only just learned about Freestyle mode is a sin.
