Last one: DMC1, like DMC3, had a harder release in the US than it did in Japan. NTSC-U Dante dealt 20% less damage to enemies and received 20% more damage from them. The HD Collection uses the NTSC-J release as its base, meaning it's an all around easier experience than the version you played for the video.
The Death Scissors in Mission 6 may have tough visual cues, but it has incredibly fair audio ones. It roars in anticipation of its attacks, including the one where it dive bombs back and forth. Humans generally react faster to sounds than they do to visuals, too. Locking on lets you know its location, so you can use Dante's facing to inform your dodge inputs when you hear the roar. DMC1 is basically a combat puzzle game, similar to Ratchet and Clank 1 - every encounter has a specific strategy that works best, so knowing what tools to use when is crucial. It makes them feel clunky/limited compared to their successors, but that's part of their charm and challenge, imo.
This is my favorite game of all time. 3,4 and 5 are objectively more refined and complete titles, but there's something about the menu design with all the little animations for equipping weapons and such, the way the secret missions are actually SECRET, the sheer impact the attacks felt like they had, and the absolutely punishing difficulty at first are all points in its favor. It was my first ps2 game and I wouldn't have it any other way. I played the demo at a friend's house and had to have it. I also love how going between missions isn't just going through a menu, and there are even little intermission in between a couple stages where you're free to explore without the constraints of a mission. It's got a lot of features that later games in the series lack, despite their obviously deeper combat mechanics.
While Devil may cry 1 has definetly aged in alot of aspects. However i still really love this game for alot reasons and its a great introdoction to the DMC universe not to mention it laid the foundation for the entire charachter action game genre so thats something.
Devil May Cry is the only game my dad played and never beat, but years later after buying the HD Collection, I beat all 3 games, then 4 and finally 5. Fuck DmC. We don't talk about that
Dmc has a VEEEEERY beginner friendly way of doing combos and the moves are all the same, i like how you play a bit and the devil/angel weapons system but yeah, kinda shit. Still better than 2 tho
It's crazy how great this game still is. As someone who played reboot dmc first and from there I jumped over dmc5 and after that played all the older games I gotta say dmc1 holds up incredibly well even without nostalgia. Sure there is some jank but it hits this weird sweet spot that made it age very well.
Few appreciate this games very unique depth. You unlock snippets of information on enemies in the file section organically as you do/observe attacks and enemy moves and phases to help better understand/deal with them and exploit weaknesses/set up critical hits. The enemies in DMC1 have more depth than any game in the series to date.
While definitely not perfect, DMC is one of the most important games in the 6th generation of gaming. And that says so much when going up against juggernauts like Grand Theft Auto III, God of War, Final Fantasy X, Halo, etc. But it spawned an overall very solid series of games that still has a ton of fans. Hope Capcom releases a sixth game soon. They've been on a roll.
Based for playing the OG PS2 version (honestly kinda prefer the weird controller layout, having the jump and attack buttons right next to each other feels more comfortable than on opposite ends). tbh this is my favourite DMC. None of the others I've played thus far have been able to meld action, exploration and atmosphere as succinctly as this first game. Later games may have more fun and compelling combat systems, but none of them feel like a full package experience like 1 does. I also think 1 is the only one that feels so *effortlessly cool*. Like it feels like every design decision was made in service of making the game cooler (including the rail shooter final boss, which I unironically love lmao). Anyway, great video man, can't wait for the DMC2 apologia lol
Weird as it sounds, I had a big smile on my face when you opened that Devil May Cry case. Probably because it was my first PS2 game (well one of them).🥰
It seems like no matter how many times I see a video from you on devil May cry, my interest in wanting to try the series never goes down. I was never really sure where to start and maybe it doesn't matter too much but I think this video has encouraged me to just try and start from the beginning so as to experience how things were from the start to the end. Especially because for some reason this game makes me feel nostalgic and I like experiencing older projects because there's usually a feel to them. Enjoy the video and have a nice day everyone.
Ngl, your Devil May Cry collection is impressive. I know when you love a game, you always went out of your way to get every possible version of it, but still seeing the collection laid out on that table is never not going to be mesmerizing. Great video as always, J.
Also, fun fact: Mundus in the volcano practically forces you to use Sparda's DT, right? Nothing else really does significant damage to him. While you might think there was some kind of weakness flag attached to the DT that makes Mundus take damage from it, the truth is that Mundus just has an outrageous amount of health, and the Sparda DT does an outrageous amount of damage. You can test this by using a cheat device to unlock Sparda DT in regular gameplay. It tears the game apart, ripping through normal enemies like a thousand degree knife cutting through toilet paper. Bosses die in _seconds._ The only downside is that the graphics for it won't load properly until you play the final boss, after which the game will keep them in its memory until you turn it off. Fun times!
mundus own fireballs actually do a good chunk to mundus. also SPARDA EVEN UNDTED Does a really good chunk of damage so it makes sense. like undted its almost as strong as ifrit charged
That's what I always thought as well J, the fact the cutscenes show us how bad ass Dante actually is makes you want to fulfill that during gameplay, it's why I use Trickster in DMC 3 😊
As great as the sequels are, there's some stuff in DMC1 that has never been quite matched for me: - Enemy behavior was actually deceptively complex, and your in-game journal would update the more Dante fought things, as he witnessed different attacks and weaknesses his enemies displayed. It really made Dante feel like a Devil _Hunter,_ keeping detailed notes on his prey. - Mallet Island was a _sickass_ setting. A big cool castle where a bunch of devil worshipers used to live. The vibes were immaculate, and the way things switch up at night? Chef's kiss. - 1 is also the game where Devil Trigger feels the best to use. The unique abilities and huge attack boost made it feel like a true monster being unleashed. 3's DT feels really weak, its few unique abilities not even worth using honestly. 4's is a little better but still not great, and was unfortunately where we stopped getting unique DTs for each weapon. 5 comes the closest to matching the OG, not in it's DT, but in it's _Sin_ Devil Trigger, which is an outrageous force of destruction. But 1 still felt the best IMO. The sequels surpass the original in plenty of other ways, but I'm still hoping one day we'll get a sequel that truly outdoes the original in _every_ way.
@@jurtheorc8117 it has been a while since I played, so I can't remember everything exactly, but I remember even the basic marionette enemies had multiple different attacks they would use in different circumstances, including a command grab where they would tackle you to the floor, and another move where they would scream and cause you to be lifted up on strings if you were too close. They also wielded different weapons, which altered their movesets. My favorite enemy in DMC1 was the Shadow. One, it looked cool as hell. Two, it had a ton of different attacks. Three, the explanation for its weakness was actually hilarious; essentially, Shadows were demons summoned hundreds of years ago and enchanted to be resistant to all weapons, but their summoner couldn't enchant them against guns because they hadn't been invented yet. In addition to all that, there was a special trick to beating them extra quickly; when they used this one attack where they shot their head at you like an extending spear, if you jumped up with the right timing and landed on the head, they would be stunned for a moment, allowing you to unload bullets on them which would actually bypass their defenses and do direct damage to the core. With sufficient mashing and a bit of DT, you could kill them near-instantly with this trick.
@@fable23 was kinda fun they reversed the concept with v in 5 but i refuse to call the enemy in V DEATH SCISSORS those are sin scissors the DEATH SCISSOR woudnt die so easily to critical counter and was fond of traps. my favorite interaction is the dragon that makes you reflect fireballs. perceptive players will realize that PHANTOM also shot fireballs and later on SO WILL MUNDUS
So glad to see you talking about these games again. Dmc is easily in my top 3 gaming franchises, and I’ve probably put like 700 hours total into the series. Great video, can’t wait for the next!
The atmosphere of the first dmc was thick and the style was the bomb haha Dante was one of my role models when i was 6 or something like that, i found the Puppets so dope and the Moment when He Pulled out the sword in his chest 😅
Interestingly with the Style system, Sonic Adventure 2 - which also came out in 2001, a few months ahead of DMC - shared a similar feature, with chaining moves together to get a written grade based on how you're playing. Along with the end of level grade. Perhaps someone was trading notes between Team Little Devils and Sonic Team...
I think it was writing on games, but a video came out recently talking about how games that are perfect are boring, and games with quirks and clunks are more interesting not in spite of these but in part due to the strangeness, and I think creators like itsuno, yoko taro, and suda 51 are great examples of this.
I think having Air Hike be exclusive to Alastor is a balance thing, as Ifrit already had a unique jump ability in Rolling Blaze. It is also consistent with DMC3, as only 3 of the 5 Devil Arms had the Air Hike move. In my head cannon Dante grew way stronger after DMC1, and so in DMC2, 4 and 5 he could Air Hike regardless of Devil Arm. Another sign of this is that his Devil Trigger form would no longer be influenced by the equipped Devil Arm, as he channels his own power into the transformation.

23:18 Even after playing all the games, this is still my favourite weapon cutscene out of all of them. The relevation about Nelo Angelo, the atmosphere combined with the music makes it stand out even now. It's the "small" stuff that I really like about DMC1 in particular.
A series about brothers killing demons (and in 2 cases each other)and looking good doing it The dashing Dante the vicious Virgil the newbie Nero The luscious lady The tantalizing Trish And a while cast of Deformed nightmarish demons to beat in style
Nightmare on DMD was super booty cheeks. Man, the fact that you have to watch the orb itself on the color was like man, how tedious. But still an overall fun game!
It’s always evident when a person is obsessed with his craft in the best way possible! Thank you for the video, Justin! Honestly, have been a fan of video games since the very childhood but I have never played Devil May Cry properly. Looking for ps4 hd collection.
I'm trying to play through DMC 1 right now (I'm not very good at it, because it's my first time playing DMC in general), and the Switch port of the collection is... a smidge suspicious, to put it lightly. Like, I dunno if you had this experience, but, in my copy, it didn't give me a menu that would allow me to select which game I wanted to play like in the HD collection, it just took me to the first game's title screen, which would imply that I had to play the games back-to-back-to-back. And, then, the copy I have is a Japanese import, which would imply that the port only got a release in Japan.
As someone who played DMC1 before (switch version) be ready the game is far harder than 3 if you ask me as well can be unpolished in some places, far from bad but if you suited to 3-5 gameplay DMC1 can feel limited
@@bachilles3285 The HD ports are also graphically inferior to the PS2 originals. I just emulate them on PCSX2 or use real hardware. Of course, DMC3 Style Switching is not available on PS2, but to be fair it makes the game unbalanced. I play New Game on Very Hard mode using mainly Swordmaster. Turbo on!
honestly spardas quite good for a weapon. specially on dante must die(hell health regen isnt even a thing on that difficulty so items are literally the only way to do so) (also taunting in the enemies presence increases DT)
I actually like the Nightmare grab, I don't mind some seconds long rematches and I like the animation when you get out while you deal a big chunk of damage.
I think Δ being jump really fits well with ○ being attack as you have easy access to both at once due to how your thumb rests over both of them. Also, I don't think that the combat needs to be crazy combo mad to be fun like how with Griffon & Shadow work. You definitely don't need holy water to beat Griffon on the pirate ship, you can beat him with just 3 meteors from Ifrit at the beginning. And I find balancing 3 Shadows to be more fun than dealing with just 1 of them, as when it's just one I'm mostly just waiting to stand on its spear so I can insta-kill it before I take it out normally. Either way, it's more of a case of you needing to defend yourself from their attacks while you counter attack them. P.S. You can get Alastor at the beginning of mission 2 & also a voice crack in an emotional scene makes sense.
okay, not to spoil the fun or anything, but the alternative definition of "Fetish" is: "An inanimate object worshipped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit." so technically a puppet enemy having that name isn't too weird.
This is still my favorite game in the series. Theres just something about the cheesy 90s one liners, the epic Dante moments, the perfect mix of horror and rock n roll soundtrack. The game also has incredible gothic horror atmosphere in general that is just unmatched.
2008. I was 8 and got my first ever console - ps2. This is the first game i ever played on it. Left a huge mark on my heart... Incredible game with one of the best athmosphere i've ever experienced
I used to love this game back in the day and was so impressed by some of its aspects. Nonetheless, I replayed it some 4 years ago and DAMN, it wasn't how I remembered it. This is one game that needs a remake. Both because of its story, design and gameplay. Hopefully one day we have one. After DMC5 it's hard to go back to the other games. Even 4 Special Edition, which has SICK combat, feels a little dated after 5... not to mention 3 (which is still a superb game, but shows its age in every aspect... but, of course is LIGHT-YEARS better than 1. 2 doesn't exist).
Really great to see you looking back on this game. It came out my last year of high school and while I was hot trash at it (eventually leveled up my skills) would still have a blast. Still love the series even if I haven't kept up as much as I should have, especially since I still buy them but just add them to the backlog.
man, i just finished the first game playing that ps4 pack on ps5. all the ps2 games i had growing up were like sly, lego, and all the tony hawk games. dude, this game is HARD on a first play through. knowing nothing of button combo games, i thought i was set since i had platinum(d) all soulsborne games, sekiro, elden ring, and lies of p. i was wrong. that goat man who just dives at you took me too many tries and almost ruined my play through. afterwards, i just did that fly zap move and cheesed the whole game afterwards. it’s beautiful now that i look back and may play it again to plat that as well. we’ll see. great vid king 👑
I still think the control layout with jump being mapped to triangle in DMC1 is entirely ass backwards, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I said I didn't get used to it. I replayed DMC1 so many times actually that I remapped the jump button to triangle in any of the future releases I played that allowed me to change it up.
I worked at the mall when this one was coming out, and the guys at Electronics Boutique waited till I came in just to show me the tape with the trailer because they knew I'd love it.
Going through the DMC games myself for the first time so this was epic timing! Finished 1 about a month ago, just got through 2, and started 3 (April 2024 at the time of writing this). Hoping to be along for the ride!
I absolutely adore the setting. The vibes are great and also just the way it opens up more and more. I only wish the McGuffins you need to open doors had more going for them. Most things are just picked up somewhere and then put into a socket somewhere else, often without much of a reason for that item doing what it does. Also yellow orbs kinda suck in my opnion. They reset you back to the last area, but when you died fighting a boss for example and you used an item, that item is not restored and those items are limited. So you get another shot at it without going through the rest of the mission again, but you're likely worse off than before. I often just reload at that point, the missions are short enough for that to be the better choice.
Tip for the nightmare beta: if you enter DT before charging it, it doesn't consume any extra DT energy, allowing you to blast multiple charge shots from it.
Hey J, Just so you know a couple months another youtuber, known as simply dad, dropped a (also great) video with exactly this name. You might wanna change the title of this to avoid looking like youre copying the title? or maybe it doesnt matter that much. Anyways keep up the great content!
I'm one of the rare ones who thinks 1 is easily one of the better games in the series. In order for me it's 3,1,5,4,reboot,2. I really appreciate actual level design hence 3 and 1 being so high. Reboot has so many issues it's music, combat even in the definitive version, and level design dont really hold it up above 4 still. 2 is 2 so...lol.
Honestly I’m still a huge fan of 1 and how it plays. The level design and atmosphere is amazing. I think people still believe that from what I’ve seen online
I played this game for the first time a couple of years ago. I agree with your feelings on the game. I don't really play games like this but I thought it was great and a ton of fun. I think gamers are often too harsh on older games. I get why people say it doesn't hold up that well nowadays but again, I thought it was great, even as someone who played it for the first time in the 2020s. Didn't know anything about the series and just knew it was considered a classic/great game so I played it.
Great video, I love listening to your retrospectives while doing work. I noticed you have a lot of "480i bobbing," maybe you could buy a splitter if a lag-less deinterlacer is out of your budget.
Honestly, this first installment still holds up well regardless of it's age, which is something not even Star Wars: X-Wing, the original System Shock even as the Enhanced Edition to some, and the Total War games before Rome can similarly attest. Will see how you'll fare on DMC 2, dude.
Imagine if the other games were anything like this masterpiece? TBH, I really loved the first few years of the franchise. Before Dante was a half Demon with family issues, who also fights his twin brother more than once. Before he obtains weapons from Demon bosses he defeats. Before he had a rotten luck with women. Before he was more of a goofball who loves adventures, while fighting for fun. Before he had a nephew who would later become his successor, after finding out they are family, giving him the right to redeem himself for helping his father to kill his uncle, but saves them from themselves, so they can act like brothers again. And before he & his brother are happily together again, only to get stuck in the underworld, which is their father’s home world.
“Before Dante was a half-demon with family issues” lol was that not already the plot of DMC1? He has to fight the tormented soul of his own brother and contend with a demonic copy of his murdered human mother. I think I get your overall point, it was just a funny way to phrase it lol
@@worldscoolestperson7672 yeah. I even did love the dark atmosphere that first game had, & how pure nightmare fuel Mundus was. I kinda like this Dante more than the others. I actually do have soft spot for his relationship with Trish. If Capcom does give us a 6th game. They should take notes from this. By making Nero exactly how his uncle was when the franchise first started, while being the exact same age, which would take place 3 years after DMC5. While it would be nice if they show Patty from the anime, as a major character of the story. With her being Nero’s hunting partner. While the two have a similar relationship that we saw in Castlevania between Richter & Maria. And that he mostly calls her kid. As a callback to when he & Dante first met.
@@Wing-Zero-si1eu dude that would be so cool. Dante being absent would justify the tonal shift and Patty could be a solid way to evolve V’s style of gameplay as a comparatively-fragile magic user into something a bit more active and DMC-feeling. @@worldscoolestperson7672 exactly. And since Patty would be a part of the story. That also mean her mother Nina would appear as well, while learning more about their family. I also think it would be interesting if she was an old friend of Nero’s mother, & that she was there when he was born. Meaning Nero would finally get some proof about his birth mother & what happened to her after his birth. And just like how Richter had Maria’s mother as his in Nocturne. Nero would do the same for Patty’s, just like how she had Dante as her father. Another thing is to make both Trish & Lady more helpful again, after how useless they were in DMC5. While the two would have some more character development, since their debut games. This game would even conclude Nero’s character arc, with him becoming a father. And that Kyrie would finally appear after DMC4. With her being pregnant with the first female Sparda. One who would be more like her mother, while being as strong as Samus Aran.
@@worldscoolestperson7672 another thing is that with Patty in Dante’s absence. The game would be the first time where Dante doesn’t appear as a major playable character. Unless he & Vergil do make a surprise comeback in the game’s final boss.
I should also nention that ranking in DMC1 isn't depend on orb collecting it depend on how much damage you taken as well how long it took you to beat the stage
The Lesser Demons' Evolution is really good and the faces of them in Nico Reports in 5 really is horrifying & digusting for many and the face of Nobody with no eyes, Titan like rows of teeth and the long tongue hanging with saliva dripping is the one that gets me and this thing is just a mindless animal, the realism of RE Engine also help add to the Fear Factor and disgusting-ness.
In Dmc 3, Dante, Lady, and Vergil used to really scare me as a kid. Now that I'm 18, live alone and pay my own things, they all look like a bunch of angry kids stomping about and throwing a tantrum while fighting over a bunch of dangerous world shattering toys.
DMC1 was a game of it's time I would say. Playing this on my PS2 at night was creepy as hell. That devilish evangelic vibe to is is so immersive. Looking back at this it feels like a 2001 game is 10x better than the modern day games we get now. 😂 Except for Black Myth: Wukong, Elden Ring, Metaphor Re-fantazio and some other more. _(This was written in 2024)_
DMC 5 is so awesome. Also probably the best game to play if you want to test the limits of a controllers durability. my fingers hurt when I play that game.
I think 'Fetish' here means thr other definition of the word, "an inanimate object worshipped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit.".
I too feel like DMC1 kinda gets overlooked compared to DMC3 and 5, understandably so but DMC1 as janky as it can sometimes be is still a good game. I might be a weirdo on the subject of the first phase of Mundus being a Space Harrier type thing, but I actually don't mind the first phase with Mundus, in fact I actually kinda like it and I personally don't think is that bad but that's just me. Might get the Ps2 version at some point, but I'm not going to play it on original hardware with its original controls if I do because like J's Reviews said the controls are backwards. It's somewhat surprising to me that there's not more mods that restore missing effects and textures for DMC1 and DMC3, like Mundus' eye laser being absent when he shoots Trish.
@@caellanmurphy4751 that too, and probably more I'm missing (like Griffon's ribcage not opening up to reveal its weak spot, and his afterimage after his first two battles is missing), there's probably a thread I don't know about documenting it, or a video or something.

I liked DmC
Honestly, DmC is fine the story sucks but the combat and soundtrack is dope, obv not like og series level but it still holds its own
It's crazy how great this game still is.
Thank you, you too! And wish you a lot of fun on the series whenever you may get to it.
Ngl, your Devil May Cry collection is impressive. I know when you love a game, you always went out of your way to get every possible version of it, but still seeing the collection laid out on that table is never not going to be mesmerizing. Great video as always, J.
26:06 I should’ve been the one to fill your dark soul with llllliiiiiiiggggghhhhhhhtttt
Even if DMC1 Dante sounds like a completely normal Rick Sanchez, I adore his voice in this game because it sounds silly and cool at the same time.

That's what I always thought as well J, the fact the cutscenes show us how bad ass Dante actually is makes you want to fulfill that during gameplay, it's why I use Trickster in DMC 3 😊
As great as the sequels are, there's some stuff in DMC1 that has never been quite matched for me:
- Enemy behavior was actually deceptively complex, and your in-game journal would update the more Dante fought things, as he witnessed different attacks and weaknesses his enemies displayed.
What were some of your favourite enemies and what made them so complex? Like behaviour, moveset, possible interaction with one another, etc.
I also got the collection at GameStop, the cashiers thought I was too young to play it(I was 19 back then)
I think it was writing on games, but a video came out recently talking about how games that are perfect are boring, and games with quirks and clunks are more interesting not in spite of these but in part due to the strangeness, and I think creators like itsuno, yoko taro, and suda 51 are great examples of this.
Was hoping the X5 video being cancelled was an April fools joke but still glad to see a Devil May Cry retrospective!

The over-the-top combat of DMC is just my type of gameplay. It feeds my soul.
One could say it filled your dark soul with light
23:18 Even after playing all the games, this is still my favourite weapon cutscene out of all of them. The relevation about Nelo Angelo, the atmosphere combined with the music makes it stand out even now. It's the "small" stuff that I really like about DMC1 in particular.
Oh boy DMC Retrospective! damn those are rare...
A series about brothers killing demons (and in 2 cases each other)and looking good doing it
The dashing Dante the vicious Virgil the newbie Nero
The luscious lady
The tantalizing Trish
And a while cast of Deformed nightmarish demons to beat in style
This is why I keep coming back.
Nightmare on DMD was super booty cheeks. Man, the fact that you have to watch the orb itself on the color was like man, how tedious. But still an overall fun game!
It’s always evident when a person
is obsessed with his craft in the best way possible! Thank you for the video, Justin! Honestly, have been a fan of video games since the very childhood but I have never played Devil May Cry properly. Looking for ps4 hd collection.
I’m currently playing through the Switch version of DMC3, and I beat 5 about a year ago, so yeah, I should get more into these games, they’re fun
As someone who played DMC1 before (switch version) be ready the game is far harder than 3 if you ask me as well can be unpolished in some places, far from bad but if you suited to 3-5 gameplay DMC1 can feel limited
capcom made the DMC game on the switch sold seprately don't know why, maybe is because 3 on switch have style switching
Turbo on!
I just finished dmc1
Nice timing
honestly spardas quite good for a weapon. specially on dante must die(hell health regen isnt even a thing on that difficulty so items are literally the only way to do so) (also taunting in the enemies presence increases DT)
This game really introduced a new generation of gameplay combat. And for that DMC 1 deserves to be remembered as an absolute classic.
P.S. You can get Alastor at the beginning of mission 2 & also a voice crack in an emotional scene makes sense.
okay, not to spoil the fun or anything, but the alternative definition of "Fetish" is:
"An inanimate object worshipped for its supposed magical powers or because it is considered to be inhabited by a spirit."
so technically a puppet enemy having that name isn't too weird.
For Griffon 2: you can get him to land on the back deck of the ship, then climb the mast and spam Round Trip + E&I from above his lightning's range
This is still my favorite game in the series. Theres just something about the cheesy 90s one liners, the epic Dante moments, the perfect mix of horror and rock n roll soundtrack. The game also has incredible gothic horror atmosphere in general that is just unmatched.
What odd timing I just put out a DMC1 thing too. Cheers! Gonna watch this tonight. Love your RE stuff.
Yeah, that was a funny coincidence. I also uploaded my RE6 video on the same day as somebody else. I’ll try to watch your video too.
2008. I was 8 and got my first ever console - ps2. This is the first game i ever played on it. Left a huge mark on my heart... Incredible game with one of the best athmosphere i've ever experienced
I could never complete this game even now, and yet I love it.
Hell yeah im so glad you’re making a retrospective on dmc. Its my favorite franchise and not enough people show it love.
I like this review style. Kinda reminds me of good old Gamespot / IGN days.
man, i just finished the first game playing that ps4 pack on ps5. all the ps2 games i had growing up were like sly, lego, and all the tony hawk games. dude, this game is HARD on a first play through. knowing nothing of button combo games, i thought i was set since i had platinum(d) all soulsborne games, sekiro, elden ring, and lies of p. i was wrong. that goat man who just dives at you took me too many tries and almost ruined my play through. afterwards, i just did that fly zap move and cheesed the whole game afterwards. it’s beautiful now that i look back and may play it again to plat that as well. we’ll see. great vid king 👑
DMC 1 is one of my all time favourites, the atmosphere and music were incredible. Gameplay had it's issues but I still love it.
The first time you encounter the puppets scared the life out of me when I was 6 years old
I worked at the mall when this one was coming out, and the guys at Electronics Boutique waited till I came in just to show me the tape with the trailer because they knew I'd love it.
I enjoyed the self made subtitles for in game dialogue.
Going through the DMC games myself for the first time so this was epic timing! Finished 1 about a month ago, just got through 2, and started 3 (April 2024 at the time of writing this). Hoping to be along for the ride!
You’re the man!!
@@MilestheDirtyMindedGoblin2099 idk i see so much downplay on 1/3 nowadays honestly
Getting the code veronica x game at Hollywood video was the best day of my life! It had the demo to this game and I fell in love with it ever since
There was no game like this when it came out. It blew my mind
Maybe even let Nero switch between devil breakers instead of having to use one at a time, or just have their powers incorporated into his normal arm.
Unless he & Vergil do make a surprise comeback in the game’s final boss.
cool video. hope i can tackle this game... someday.
I should also nention that ranking in DMC1 isn't depend on orb collecting it depend on how much damage you taken as well how long it took you to beat the stage
Great game, it doesn't really hold up to the other games nowadays but it was super influential for gaming as a whole
In terms of atmosphere there's nothing quite like it. Still a masterpiece today.
When shadows turn like in this segment 19:07 and you have no enemies around just focus on dodging they can't take more damage in this state

I really need to replay 1,2,3 and 5 for sure. Need to play 4 sometime devil may cry is fantastic

Sparda doesn't normally have DT because it ALWAYS deals DT damage. DT also doesn't heal you on DMD, so there is no reason not to have Sparda equipped.
