    lots of extra, not necessary stuff going on here. Use the Elliptical Marquis tool while holding the shift key and select the entire sphere as close to the edge as possible with a feathered edge of 5-10 pixel or so. Ctrl+T and free transform to flip the ball image. Done!

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  6 лет назад

      Barbara Peterson that is essentially what I did however I prefer to save my selections as shapes on different layers so I can redo or change things if I need to. I agree that the middle part wasnt needed once I learned you can hit Ctrl+J and copy the selection to a new layer, and I updated the video description accordingly. Like I said in the video, this is just my method, and I wanted to share it in case it helped anyone, you're free to do it however you see fit. All that really matters is the end result.

    • @BarbaraPeterson423
      @BarbaraPeterson423 6 лет назад

      Agreed! I like to keep things simple. I do not make adjustments on the original image, so I just make a copy and do the adjustments there. unless I am moving the ball to a different background I don't see a purpose to putting the ball onto a separate layer.Thanks for the tutorial.

    Turn on the rulers. With the cursor on the ruler, click - hold - and draw guides to the bottom, top, left and right sides of the ball. Magnify as much as you need to in order to be as precise as possible. Then draw a circulair selection from top-left to bottom-right corner with 2-5 pixel feather, depending on your resolution. More if so required. The selection should encircle the whole ball. Copy and paste the selection, then flip the newly pasted ball horizontally or rotate, whichever you prefer. Correct the position of the guides if needed and redraw the selection. The guides will help to position the pasted ball if the paste is off position.

      @CollinInKind  7 лет назад

      John van den Dries cool, thanks for the tip, I don't use rulers very often, I should start.

    • @johnvandendries1806
      @johnvandendries1806 7 лет назад

      Addendum: Hold down the Ctrl-key (or was it the Alt-key) to alter the position of any guide.

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  6 лет назад

      LifeOfMikey hey, sorry for the late reply. Not sure why that would be. Try making sure you are in RGB color mode by going to image>mode>RGB
      Also make sure that you don't have one pixel selected somewhere that you can't see by going to select>deselect and then select the circle again.
      That's all I can think of without seeing it myself, hope you can figure it out, good luck!

      John Collighan I used the paint bucket tool, under the eraser tool on the tool panel but I think you can actually skip that part and just press CTRL + J to automatically copy your selection to a new layer, I'm not exatcly sure how that will work with the feathering, the red trick may still help you out but you should give it a try!

      DireHavok not sure, this one was pretty small, probably about 2 inches in diameter, I ended up buying a larger one as well

    • @puksb
      @puksb 5 лет назад

      If you press alt/shift/(clover sign thingie) and mm(metric), that opens the Lensball gradient measuring overlay. Replace in for mm for inches, or ft for feet. I’m sure I don’t need to say “conversely, clicking options/idioms/graphics-ex/C/all/Me will get you there faster. But a Mac’s always faster.

    • @johnvandendries1806

      It flips the image. Make certain that the line of sight of your camera is exactly on the imaginary line going through the center points of the glass spheres. In this case your camera would be sitting almost on the ground. Also use a longer lens to compensate somewhat for the difference in size of the spheres in your view finder as a result of the difference in distance to the sensor plane. Cheers.

    Much easier ways to do it.
    1. select the ball roughly same size not quite but almost all of it
    2. Cut out the selection to new layer
    3. Just flip it
    thats it

    why not make a selection go the ball then just flip it.

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  4 года назад +1

      You can do that, but I think it takes a little bit of work to make it blend naturally, but that'll work. There another video on RUclips showing how to do it in 39 seconds or something. I may have added some unnecessary steps, as I don't do a ton of work in Photoshop, I mostly work in Premier and Lightroom. I just threw this together to show everyone what I did, from the comments I've received, it seems like the process can be streamlined a little bit.

      Troy Kelley sorry about that, the only difference in hotkeys is substituting command for control if you're on a Mac. I also showed how to do it through the menu. I tried to keep the steps as minimal as possible but to make it look good I feel like there are a few steps you have to go through. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. I think there are a few other tutorial videos maybe one of those will help you more.

  • @karenrose6318
    @karenrose6318 6 лет назад +1

    You move way to fast through the steps. Also, When you start hitting delete, I can't tell what option you are on because when I hit delete after the feather option it starts deleting the color on the paint strokes and makes it even more transparent and does not soften the edges. You need to slow down and be more clear about what options you have selected. The whole purpose in watching these types of videos is because one is unfamiliar with Photoshop. You fly through it like someone who has been working with photoshop for years. If I had that much knowledge I wouldn't need the tutorial. At 505 you talk about "bringing it out just a hare" but you don't explain what you click on, (which I figured out is the lasso) or how you go from that to getting the pink box around it to be able to adjust it. Once you're done, you're like, there you go, but I can't get there because I can't figure out how you did it. I watched your video and played with it for hours to no avail. A 9 min tutorial shouldn't take me hours of rewinding and playing to never actually get the end result.

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  6 лет назад

      Karen Rose sorry about that, I tried to articulate every step. I've never made a tutorial before I'll go slower in the future.

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  6 лет назад

      Karen Rose when I talked about bringing it out a little bit, I was hitting Ctrl+T or you can go to Select>Free Transform
      I suppose I didn't say that because I had already mentioned it earlier if I recall correctly. I'm happy to help with anything else you're stuck on just leave a reply

    • @CollinInKind
      @CollinInKind  6 лет назад

      Karen Rose oh and as far as the feathering. You're only going to see it on the color overlay, but when you select around that overlay and then switch to the image layer and cut it out, it will soften the edges too
