I'm so happy I found this video! Great job and fun to watch! I'm part of a photo club and I'm taking over a demo for our president who can't be at our next meeting. You have saved the day for me with your great finger light shots. I'm off to practice and thank you so much! You're the best!😃
thanks Andy, i know the video is from a while back. i think ive watched it 3 or 4 times lol. just trying to get some ideas and knowledge of how to shoot the lens ball. great video. and ideas, thanks
Wow, so many new ideas. I have used mine for the odd seascape etc but experimenting with lighting (and cheese graters) is on the list for a rainy day. Thanks Andy.
Great video, Andy. In my experience, remember to focus on the composition of the entire shot. So get everything lined-up appropriately. When you are happy with your composition, remember your focal point should be the CENTER of the ball. Also, experiment with a variety of apertures to get your desired effect. Have fun!
I bought a pair of these last year and thought, why not take them out and play with them a bit? But first, what are other people doing? Thanks for some brilliant ideas to play with, Andy.
I ordered a set of glass balls which arrived yesterday. I'm only a phone photographer, but I'm lookingforward to getting out and using them. Thank you for the tips. :)
Thanks for sharing your tips and images ( some quite incentive ones :) To me the results at sunset seem quite pleasant regarding the use of this "device' for landscape pjotography.
Instead of turning the whole image upside down at the end of the video, you can just use PS to select the area within the ball, hold the Shift key so it makes a circular selection (instead of an oval), then invert the selected area within the ball. I have also put the ball on top of a laser disc instead of a mirror.
When taking a photo with the ocean I’m always trying to hold the horizont in level in the ball because then the line is one thru the picture if you understand what I mean.
Great question. I don't do a huge amount of editing to these. I just used Lightroom to do some basic editing. There are loads of videos on my Chanel on how I edit my images. Have a quick look. Thanks for watching
Hi Peter. You can rotate the image using any image viewing or editing software. In this video, I used the video software to rotate it You can buy the finger lights on ebay. Just search for "finger lights".
@@AndyHornbyPhotos I was more refering to one like the colander and the pier. In the video they have material light but in the photo it is a different color.
I know this sounds like a dumb question Andy but how are you using one hand to hold the ball and the other to focus and then snap a picture. My camera is not heavy but a bit awkward to try and look at the screen, use the zoom and then focus also and then push the button all while holding everything still. :) I have disabled auto focus and tried the macro button etc etc. I know it can be done as I have seen dozens and dozens of pictures but nothing in a video tutorial - only the end result. TIA. Mike
Hi Mike great question. And it comes down to focus peaking on the Sony. This was manual focus. I just moved the ball back and forth intill I saw the spinnaker Tower was in focus. It took a few attempts. What you see on video makes it look a lot easier I know. But persevere buddy and it'll all come into focus... Sorry I couldn't resist the pun.
@@AndyHornbyPhotos i’m a photography student currently, do you have an email I can contact you on for questions as I am also focusing on glass ball photography

All the different colors in the lighting is that added in post production?
