Fantastic intro bud. Thanks for sharing this. I didn’t know a lens ball would be so tricky to shoot. Great video.
Thanks heaps Paul. I’ve been sitting on the vid for a while so it’s nice to have it out there now.
Perfecr timing, just got my hands on one of these, can't wait to implement your tips 🙌
Yew!!! Epic to hear. They’re great fun and you get better with practice.
Really great guide on lens balls mate, I've never used one so it's handy to know! I like how you used that piece of paper to reflect the focus points. Intro was also 🔥 with it timed to music. Got some great shots with that, really liked the one you showed at 7:43 with the colourful BOKEH!
Rauri you’re a legend. Thanks heaps man. They’re fascinating to plays with. This video probably took 4 months to compile all the footage and imagery as getting those shots requires the right light and I’d always forget to shoot with it lol
Great video mate. These things are so much fun but to be honest, haven't used mine in a couple of years now. I used to have it with me to help me break out of a rut. Probably need to get it back out again. Great tips in this video! Hope you are doing well and keeping safe!
I know what you mean. It’s easily forgotten. Thanks heaps mate. Certainly good for the creative slump.
Just bought myself one for Mothers day ;) cant wait for it to arrive... thanks for the tips...
Go you!! Sounds like some exciting images ahead!!
Great video thanks. Explained well.
Cheers mate. Super appreciate that.
Thanks for he info, looking forward to playing with my new glass ball.
Gate at stiff Dale. They’re lots of creative fun.
Very good insight into Lensball photography , i have had one for a couple of years and only used it a couple of times, its a fair weight to lug around but really need to make more of an effort to capture something with it as soon as i can , currently trying to fit 10 internal doors and i am no carpenter ! lol
10 Internal doors!! That’s way more tricky than lensball photography 😉 thanks heaps mate. I take it out when I know the landscape is conducive, otherwise I leave it at home.
I love your camera collection 😍
Haha thanks.
I ordered one of these in 2019...I'm sure it will be here any day now. 😝
Oh well. This is a pretty cool tutorial on how to use these things more creatively. Thanks 😊.
Haha I think I had one like that.
Thanks heaps champion!!
Very helpful!
Thanks heaps Nek 👍
Do the throwing the ball shot on grass. You drop it and its good. Also i prefer using mine for shots where its closed in like long narrow streets.
Haha yeah good call. That’s a great approach you got there. The natural framing that would create would definitely add to the image.
Awesome video especially loved “Don’t drop the ball” 😂
My question is does the minimum focusing distance depend on what lens you are using or is it the same for all lenses?
Haha thanks David. It depends on the lens for sure.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography thank you. I uploaded a photo I took with the lens ball to your instagrams. If you can give me your input I’d appreciate it. 😊
Thank you for the tips. I got another lens ball for Christmas, 100mm, but looks exactly like my 80mm that I already have. What's the best way to measure them, thinking I need to send it back for something bigger like 120mm?
I’d put it on a table and look straight down on it marking the first eat two side points then measure the distance between them. Or lay it on a tape measure. I’m pretty sure the mm is from one side to the other through the centre.
Cheers Ralph
My pleasure :)
Nice video.
Thanks very much!
I've had one of these for 2 years and used it two or three times. This was a great video to inspire me to go take it out for a spin again!
That’s what I love to hear. I’d love to see what you come up with!!
Thank you
My pleasure.
is there a best type of lens to shoot with? Macro I assume would be a no - but what about setting the ball on the ground with a longer lens from a distance - say a 200mm? Just wondering what focal length is optimal in your opinion?
Hmmm good question. My hunch is any, depending on how much of the landscape/subject you want in the ball. Closer you get, the more of your landscape / subject would be included. That’s my guess anyway.
Thanks bud@@RalphMayhewPhotography
I have thoroughly enjoyed your video as I have just bought a lens ball and your video has helped a lot but I do apologise but I have to correct you it's not the camera that depicts the focal length , it's the lenses . Just saying 😊
Hahah yes you’re quite right. Often as I’m thinking ahead when I speak I get the very obvious thing wrong :s thanks for the correction.
Isn't the minimum focus length dependent on the lens, not the camera body?
Yep it is. Did I accidentally say otherwise 😬
What’s the best lens to use
24-70 is the most versatile. But any lens can be used.
Can i use it with iPhone or it will be perfect only with professional camera??
Yep. Watch this short ruclips.net/user/shorts6MQmdWkhdVk?feature=share
Hi, what lens u use to shoot with lensball? Macro?
You can actually use any lens. Just keep in mind the wider you go the smaller the lens ball becomes. I mainly use a 24-70 to shoot with the lensball however the macro would enable you to get really close.
@@RalphMayhewPhotography Thanks man. Gonna try that :-D
where can i purchase a Lens Ball? thanks.
You can get a lens ball here: geni.us/uXyA mine is an 80mm, and the holder this one comes with will give you lots more options.
thank you so very much for the valuable information Ralph!!!!
My pleasure Jerry 👊
Thanks Ralph. Im figuring out right now which brand to choose. Seems to be a bit of a price difference between the original lens ball and the lesser known names. And apparently you can also buy a 150 mm ball as well. This should be interesting research. Thanks so much!!!!
Nice man. My experience is that a ball is a ball. The more expensive ones would have less light refraction and therefore better quality. Be careful with larger ones because they’re heavy. I reckon my 80mm weighs a kg. It’s a lot to lug around. Then you’ve gotta clean it and if it’s too big, cleaning it well is a mission :)
Solid video mate. Just bought a 100mm one. Will give you a follow on Insta. Thanks for all the tips. Will be handy
Epic mate thanks heaps. Look forward to seeing what you come up with 👍
