Very nice video im new to kayak fishing and I don’t know anything about fishfinder my question is can you still use the garmin echomap uhd 74sv to a lake i want to use it both lake and ocean thanks
if you do both ocean and freshwater, i'd get the 74sv. i think it's more important to have maps for the ocean rather than a local lake that might not even be in the Garmin map database.

I just got the 74sv. I think the reason they are on sale is because it's the older model with the GT54 transducer, newer ones come with the GT56. And Bass pro is a few miles away from me sooo...ha!
@@XxJalelxX Yes, that's my take on it as well. the models with the GT56 transducers are about $200 more. according to Garmin specs, the GT54 should be plenty good for deep water - it's rated to 800'. not to sound like a Garmin fanboy, but i've never had any depth-related problems with any of the Garmin units, including the Striker series.
@@honeybadgervoodoooutdoors7305 I do appreciate you posting fishing related discounts though. There has been a void in that department ever since tackle advisors on YT left the scene. Looking for the entry level Garmin stryker 4 portable kit. Any thoughts on this unit for someone just starting with depthfinders? Thanks again, look forward to your videos and hope that you can post them more often.
@@jonathank5388 hi, every Garmin ff that i've owned has been very capable. i used to own a Lowrance unit, and have seen plenty of the lower-end Lowrance units struggle in depths greater than about 150'. i just don't think the transducers have the punch to deal with ocean depths. having said that, i think the higher-end Lowrance units do much better in deeper water. The Striker series do just fine in deeper water, but i would probably opt for the "Plus" series, which allows you to draw your own contour maps. But the first place i'd look is the used market (Craigslist, Offerup, FB Marketplace, etc.) You might be able to find a good Echomap unit on discount.
Ugh, sorry about the audio - it's the bane of my RUclips content creation existence.

What's the difference with the new transducer vs the ones on sell now?
@@rockyg5441 from what I read the Gt56 is better in deeper water, different frequencies and sharper return in structure.

Save %10 but spend $60 in gas driving to Cucamonga
well, you do bring up a good point :)

Ended up getting the garmin 94. Any suggests on a ram mount set up for a hobie H rail??
good unit. i vaguely remember that Hobie sells a part that goes on the H-rail, and that part has a platform that can accommodate a RAM mount.
