The only I have fished halibut is on the bottom because you will catch little ones on the way down or up, but the only big ones I have caught were on the bottom, they are bottom feeders. We still fish with our bait close to the edge of a drop off with the tide coming up the hill to carry the food. :) Still loving your videos, looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing them!

Good video, and sucks when they get off. Check for sharpness on the hooks, rub the hooks onto your finger nail to see if it slides or gets stuck. If it sticks to the finger nail its good. If it glides on your nail, it needs sharpening.
Yeah i check my regular used hooks after getting some action. Ive only resharpened 2 times before while out on the water. I have a small hook filer with a grove in it. Works great

Are you able to do a Hali from shore tutorial or something? I tried the other day and failed. I really didn't know what I was doing, what kind of conditions to look for or anything. I thought if I just go to a sandy area and throw the drop shot with a fluke that would do the trick, but no luck.

Good video, and sucks when they get off. Check for sharpness on the hooks, rub the hooks onto your finger nail to see if it slides or gets stuck. If it sticks to the finger nail its good. If it glides on your nail, it needs sharpening.
Gomakatsu makes the sharpest hooks I've found. I do usually bring a hook sharpener, though. It's like a ball point pen with a sharpener under the lid.

I usually let them take the bait and then I set the hook not hard but a normal jerk (up) and it's on...my favorite fish to catch no doubt.
