He made it a coherent whole, telling the story of the song with sight and sound and dance and just utter creativity. You originally thought MJ was just scatting? I thought he was singing Annie are you walking? 😆 Terrific video! Thank you Trixie. And super great reaction, Maggie! 🕺🏽

Here’s an interesting fact: Jackson’s familiar refrain of “Annie, are you OK?” carries more meaning than just the narrator asking a question. The line is inspired by Resusci Anne, the name of the model of doll used to teach CPR. Jackson combined the question trainees learn to ask, “are you OK?” with the name of the doll to create the iconic line.

The lean was done with special shoes that have a v notched into the heal.
They slide the heal into a v that is screwed to the floor. The v in the floor holds the shoes to the floor. They are not nailed.
And ofcourse michael and his dancers were in excellent physical condition to perform the stunt.

This is also only a small portion of a longer video. The full video is over 15 minutes long and tells a small story. You should find the full length video when you can.
You can find the diagram and patent on the shoes they were using where the heal hooks into an anchor (nail) in the floor to be able to lean and then unhook at will making a smooth transition. He's used this in live performances as well thus disproving the "cable" theory.

@melaniemagdalene1616 I do know the term wacko jacko...I was born and raised in the 70's! And before you start spouting "going off on tirades!" I never used the term wacko did I? No I don't believe I did.
And even if I did you do realise you can have the utmost respect for someone and still make fun of them, where I come from its called ribbing, in other parts of the world its called banter.
As said I was born in the 70's, I listened to Michael Jackson both solo and as part of the Jackson 5. I loved every song he released because I respected him as an artist. What he did in his private life was just that....private and didn't deter me in the slightest as to his quality of music. He is still (postumously) one of thr best artists in the world. Does that mean I can't poke fun at him?(i didn't but you are free to speculate in your own weird way!) Yes I can. Is it disrespectful? No, because for some that is how they show their respect.
If you cannot have broad shoulders in life, then don't put yourself out there.
      Rantful tirade over!

  • @USCanthony
    @USCanthony 10 месяцев назад +5

If you had seen this performed at one of his live shows you would know that the lean was not done with cables. It had to do with the shoes attaching to something of the stage floor. The trick was that he and his dancers could attach and detach instantly. It was not obvious to the audience that this was taking place.

When the window breaks and everything goes weird? Ever since I was a kid, I would always like to think that the Magic fills the club with MJ. When the window broke all the Magic left. But MJ can produce the magic and they beg him to do it. He opens his arms and the chord plays, then he agrees (nodding) and then everything starts to get reanimated and BOOM. Magic time.....yeah, I saw the whole movie Moonwalker more than a few times when I was a kid. This whole video is a short piece of a short film at the end of it. MJ's getting hunted by people who want to addict the kids to drugs. Then he turns into a robot, kills the bad guys, turns into a spaceship, and leaves. Yeah, that happens. I used to LOVE that movie. I am unashamed.
PS: Watching the subtitles try to keep up with MJ's awesomeness was beautiful. Maggie, you're a treasure!

No, cables were not used at all for "the lean". Michael Jackson actually holds a patent for special shoes designed with a hooking mechanism under the heal. Nails pertrude from the floor and the dancers simply slide their feet forward to hook the heads of the nails into their heal. This anchors them so they can lean as far forward as possible without falling. When back upright, they simply slide their feet back to unhook themselves, then the nails are retracted back into the floor. This effect was also performed live on stage throughout his concert tours and even broadcast live on televised performances (such as his Live in Bucharest concert that was aired on HBO back in the 90's and is now available on RUclips). However, even with this technology employed, the move is still very straining and painful on their backs, and there have been instances where it failed to work perfectly. So in the end, it's still an amazing feat for a dancer to pull off.

For the film, the lean was done using cables - he then developed and patented a special shoe combined with retractable bolts in the floor to be able to do the same lean on stage. The effect was the same, but he used a couple of different ways over the years.
By the way, how did you enjoy doing Rake’s Progress in Stockholm? I was working at the venue, so was a bit surprised to see a familiar name on the poster. :-)

This clip is based on the Girl HUnt Ballet sequence from the musical The Band Wagon (1953) with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse. Many of the dance movements are copied from that sequence.

In the video cable harnesses were used and then removed in post production. In order to perform in live he filed a patent for a device he invented that allows his shoes to lock into a mount on stage. During the performance of the song there is a breakdown where the lights go down allowing a dancer to distract the audience with one of those fake cartoon bombs while he and his back up dancers move to that side of the stage and lock in. The lights come up and they perform the lean using his invention. There is plenty of video on here showing what I'm talking about. There's even one video that shows one of the dancers almost blowing the spot because he got stuck when he dismounted stumbling a little.
No matter how it's done. It's really cool and creative. Who thinks of doing something like that and then creates a way to replicate it live too?

MJ was not like normal humans - won an MTV contest in 1992 and had dinner with him on the set of “in the closet”. The energy that you got in his presence can not be put in words. He was a gift to this planet! RIP MJ!

it's DEFINITELY nails. They acually show it in video showing how he prepares for a concert, cause they acually do it in live shows he's done. Maybe wires were used at one point during a testing phase but special shoes & small metal posts coming up from the stage.

no cables used it was explained in an interview where MJ had shoes specialy made so that nails or bolts rise up from the floor and attatch themeslves to a socket in the wearers shoe allowing them to lean so far without falling they are literally stuck to the floor, they even do the lean on live performances where cables and wires would be imposible to use as it is the middle of the routine
