@maggieRenee it's Jeb here !! Hi 👋🏼😅 The song I believe the ones you asked about with Oprah interview and Michael came from his movie "Michael Jackson's Ghost ." Please react to you it later this year before Christmas 🫢
People don't understand how big this was unless they were there at the time. It revolutionized how videos were made. Quincy Jones as producer started it rolling. Getting John Landis to direct and the legendary Vincent Price to do voiceover launched it even further. They actually released it on VHS along with a "making of" documentary and you could never find it in stock at a rental store.
Yeah. It was a legitimate *event!* The hype and anticipation was through the roof! I made sure to be home to watch it. My neighbour asked to come over to watch it.
@@nicholashylton6857 - I remember MTV actually giving schedules every day as to when the video would air, so you could make sure to see the whole thing.
Absolutely, but I would probably put smooth criminal as it's more detailed and choreographed better. Thriller is iconic, but smooth criminal is straight up fire 😁👊🏽✨️💙🤍🎯👑
I was 15 when the song was originally released on the airwaves in late 1982. But it got a huge boost thanks to the video in late 1983 through at least the spring of 1984.
There's a reason MJ is the icon and legend that he is, his talent and charisma are on another level. His music(both the songs and their videos) were ahead of their time and have influenced multiple artists across the music industry. He was truly one of a kind, RIP Michael Jackson.
Yes! You cannot have Halloween without MJ's Thriller. The entire Thriller album is a gem from start to finish along with guest appearances by Sir Paul McCartney, Vincent Price and Eddie Van Halen.
I watched this reactionary before with others and you are by far the best. You don’t run your mouth during the actual movie. You pause to give your analysis. Then you pick up where you left off so we don’t miss anything. On top of this, you showed your own clips of raw talent which is great.
When I was little, Michael was my first love and my crush, and he still is to this day! I used to listen to him in the Jackson 5 when I was little, and now I'm rediscovering that music and his older music! I was away from him for a long time, but in 2022, I came back to his music after being away from him for many years and 13 years after he passed away, and let's just say I am never going to leave him ever again! The video for this song used to freak me out when I was little and I would scream every time Michael turned into the werewolf and the zombie come and I would be scared of Vincent Price's laugh, but my father told me who he was, and I got to see what Vincent was like as a person. I also saw the making of the thriller video, and they showed Michael in the makeup and all the different costumes, and once I saw that it was only Michael, I calmed down and the fears that I had experienced as a little girl went away and disappeared. Now the video is one of my favorites, and I'm starting to learn how to do the Thriller dance!
Fun fact: Rick Baker (the effects and makeup artist for the video) had a cameo as the zombie opening the crypt. This was just one of Baker's screen credits; for those who aren't familiar with his work, he's better known as the makeup and effects artist for An American Werewolf In London, both the 1976 and 1985 remakes of King Kong (and he played Kong in the 1976 version), Harry And The Hendersons, and two or three dozen more films.
I watched Michael Jackson at the old Wembley stadium in 1990, for this particular song the stage split into 2 levels and he must have had 80 people dressed as zombies doing the backing dance, absolutely awesome
Little information for those who don't know Michael was working on a classical music project before his death. The composer David Michael Frank supported him. Because Michael couldn't read or even write sheet music. He hummed or beat boxed the melodies he imagined.
Mike certainly knows drama. He understands it well as he's been in the business for most of his entire life. Not to mention that MJ'S acting chops is underrated Examples: Bad (full version) Captain EO Moonwalker The Wiz Of course, thriller, lol You rock my world (long version) The way you make me feel (long version) Ghosts 😀🙌🏽🌟❤️👻🍿🎬👑

Any music video of Michael Jackson’s is worth its weight in gold to react too. Billy Jean,Remember the Time, Beat it, PYT, We are the World, Smooth Criminal, so many others that I can’t name at the moment
MTV used to advertise when they were playing this video and we all stopped what we were doing to watch it and do the dances along with it. Good Lord... just saw the roman numerals at the end. Can't believe that was from 1983. Man I am getting old.
People say Michael changes into a Werewolf but if you paid attention to the facial makeup, you'd see it is in fact a WereCat he charges into. Notice how the typical Werewolf snout doesn't grow, it's flat like a typical cat's snout.
24:29 Another fun fact for you, Maggie: Choreographer Michael Peters also choreographed the dance sequence in the music video for Michael Jackson's "Beat It", as well as appearing as the gang leader that was dressed in white
Great job Maggie! I loved the edited pieces you put into the reaction. Michael truly was one of a kind. And as you saidi we have here a video that stands the test of time! Also always loved the late Vincent Price on the "rap" section of the song as well.
the attention to detail of Michael is crazy, for instance when he walks in that zombie mode, those small mouth movements are so damn good!!!! And his vocals man, this man is so damn good!!!!!!!! His voice is so often overlooked!!!
Look Up MIchael's tribute to Sammy Davis Jr. when he was dying....YOU WERE THERE....one of the most beautiful things he has ever sung...and performed and Sammy was there and you can see him while he was singing..
It was the first. When it got nominated for an Oscar the Academy decided to change the requirements for the length of time of a short film. What helped was that he chose a famous movie director who had done horror movies. It also helped that a famous movie make-up artist was used.
There' a video in youtube in which they decompose the tracks of this song, and one of them is Michael Jackson isolated sound track, so the next best thing to listen to him singing a capella. Simply, AMAZING!
He had a magnetism that was out of this world. my first memory was actually the motown moonwalk and I just remember the magnetism and magic it was surreal. People running out of rooms and tripping over themselves not to miss him on TV Insanityyyyyyyyy
Best part of his dance is every part of his body has its own part of every move. His calf, elbows, shoulder, lips, he literally moves every part and incorporates it into his dances. Amazing
A music video made when content and a story line were all important. Micheal does disavow any connection to the occult at the beginning of the video. But it is among his finest works. He had only to ask the legendary Vincent Price to do the voice over, he gladly accepted and said he had more fun helping Micheal make this video than he had had in years. He said in an interview that Micheal was a rare talent and working with him was a pleasure, unlike some in the industry.
I have not seen that video in years but it is still amazing to watch even after all this time. I remember when it was first seen in the UK, it was like everything stopped and everyone was talking about it. Awesome artist, song, video and memories that came from it! Thank you for doing this!
Same thing here in Canada. You wanted to experience it along with friends in front of the TV or in public venues. There was so much secrecy & anticipation, it's impossible to express how BIG it was to anyone who wasn't around then.
Hey Maggie, Your reaction to MJ's song is absolutely Wicked... But.... When at (14:42)... You explained how, With your Clip of doing doing it on stage... ...And then BLEW US AWAY...!!)...xx And for all of your cross over content... Your whole reactions, and Thank you...x From all of your friends over here in London..xx
If you should ever encounter MJ as a WereCat, remember to just shout at it "Bad Kitty!!" and to clap your hands together really loud and to use a water spray bottle and he'll just turn and run away. 👏🔫😂
I was a month way from my 12th birthday when this came out at the end of 83. The thriller album is one of the first I remember buying myself. Great talent even when he was a kid singing with Jackson 5, and this song and video were/are brilliant.
These were known as music video. The voice of the man speaking acts in horror movies his name is Vincent Price. Imaging Vincent acting in horror movie when movies & TV was still in black & white. 😊😊😊
Maggie Renee Werewolf effects for Michael was done by iconic makeup artist and legend, Rick Baker. Baker did similar practical effects for American Werewolf in London too. Baker retired from his work in 2014 because of CGI. There is behind the scenes video called Making of Thiller.
Actually, he gave her his class ring .... that's how it was done back then. There was no such thing as a promise ring! We would wear the class ring with a LOT of tape wrapped on the back of the band to make it fit!
In my eyes this music video is a miniature horror movie in its own right. I love this song, especially every Halloween. Calling Michael the King is no exaggeration.
For those of us that was there at the time, I was very pregnant with my 1st. My husband and I were at a good friend's house because they had MTV because it was cable and not everyone had cable.
This song was called starlight at first! i have heard the song and almost sounds the same but with different lyrics!! then Micheal Jackson watched a movie by john Landis called an American werewolf in London!! a light bulb went off in MJ head and rewrote the song as Thriller and got in touch with john Landis to direct the short film, and the rest is History as they say, go check out the song before it became Thriller, it was called starlight michael jackson
The release of this video was an event! Cable hadn’t made it all the way down our street yet, so a bunch of us gathered at a neighbors, probably40-50 people, they had a big projection screen and we made a party of it. Vincent Price made this all the better!
MJ was raised as a strict Jahovas' Witness and didn't believe in anything regarding the occult; that is why he made the statement at the beginning of the video, basically stating that this is a video and nothing he believed in. His religion was very important to him - this was just a video, nothing more. I was in 7th grade and had 10 girls sleeping over waiting for this premiere. My poor dad took my brother somewhere for the night because we were screeching 13 and 14-year-olds! The boys had to get away! It was a Friday night - perfect for a junior high sleepover. It had to be a nightmare for any boy - but I am so glad I grew up in the 80s because today, kids wouldn't be together - they would be on their phones - we had it so much better without technology - just waiting for MTV premiers! I still remember every dance move from this video, and it was 40 years ago. It was so 80s, and we are proud to be '80s kids', although we are grandparents today!!! Our grandchildren are beginning to discover this video and cannot figure out how GRANDMA knows the dance! 🤣 Grandma was 13 years old once, too! and we LOVED Michael! My initials were also MJ; I had the denim jacket and heels she was wearing (we snuck them into school - our parents didn't allow us to wear them - but they are the 80s!), the infamous red jacket he wore, and everyone had a knockoff of it..... the '80s were MJ!!!! We miss him!!!!
I never miss a chance to watch this video. It’s just so good-the music, the dancing, Vincent Price (NOBODY better), even the fat zombie-what a touch! As an artist, Michael Jackson is a true icon. His compositions, dancing and singing were extraordinary (I think I read somewhere that after that Motown special, Fred Astaire called to compliment him) The reason he lost some steam had nothing to do with his music. It was all the real life stuff, like the kids accusing him (I’d had a little crush on him since he was a kid, and that ended at this point), the weirdness with Lisa Presley (all to do with $cientology, probably) and the other woman who had kids for him, dangling his baby off the balcony, etc. Add the last couple plastic surgeries that left him disfigured, and people lost interest in his videos. Loved your scenes-the squeaks and cackles were awesome, and I totally agree that acting the part helps, especially if you’re going to sing to an American audience in a language other than English. Why don’t we expect our kids to learn other languages as the folks pretty much everywhere else in the world do? Anyway, great reaction! For Giggles, why don’t you check out Marwan Ayman’s This is Halloween in 30 styles? (This isn’t the exact title, but you’ll find it easily). Marwan is still a teenager, but he’s incredibly gifted, and reminds me a little of MJ in that he has a real gift for arrangement and performing as well as singing.
Great reaction Maggie. And you are so right. If this had been released only yesterday... it would still become a classic. Great voice yourself by the way...😍
Every year, for over 20 years, our city, Lexington, Kentucky has put on a "Thriller Parade" on the weekend closest to Halloween. For about 2 months, citizens, and I mean entire families, take classes, learn the dance and rehearse. We have had as many as 3000 "zombies" dancing down Main Street. There are auditions for the part of Michael Jackson. It is such a fun thing for the families. I have seen great grandparents, grandparents, moms, dads, kids, and even little baby zombies. It is amazing the impact this video has had, not only on music and videos but on American culture as a whole.
I remember watching the world premiere of this video the first time it ever aired (yes, I'm old). It was on a broadcast TV show called Friday Night Videos. Many rural areas did not have easy access to cable at that time and they wanted as broad an audience as possible. They hyped up this video for weeks in advance and it was more than half the length of that 30-minute segment of Friday Night Videos. Great to see someone enjoying this classic.
This video directed by John Landis was so innovative and a big deal that we were able to watch the making of and the video in middle school math class!!! I used to hang posters of him on my wall. Such a talent. I miss him

He was once in a generation..a soul that captivated and united the world
I never miss a chance to watch this video. It’s just so good-the music, the dancing, Vincent Price (NOBODY better), even the fat zombie-what a touch! As an artist, Michael Jackson is a true icon. His compositions, dancing and singing were extraordinary (I think I read somewhere that after that Motown special, Fred Astaire called to compliment him)
The reason he lost some steam had nothing to do with his music.
Very sweet! Thank you! 🤗💟 Hope to see you on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/MaggieRenee
This video was directed by John Landis who directed An American Werewolf in London and the makeup was made Rick Baker
Great reaction Maggie. And you are so right. If this had been released only yesterday... it would still become a classic. Great voice yourself by the way...😍
Thank you for your lovely message. Hope to see you on my Saturday livestream: ruclips.net/user/liveIqzGQCMDFBA 👍🌹
Not really a Michael fan but this has to be the best music video ever.
Loved this a lot...
The best music video ever. Period.
I agree with you, this would be as big today as it was in the day. Love this video and your commentary.

When the creepy music starts as the full moon, as a child I'd be fast looking for a way outta the room.😂
Me too
Every year, for over 20 years, our city, Lexington, Kentucky has put on a "Thriller Parade" on the weekend closest to Halloween.
Always loving the Elmer Bernstein score.

This video directed by John Landis was so innovative and a big deal that we were able to watch the making of and the video in middle school math class!!! I used to hang posters of him on my wall. Such a talent. I miss him
He was my favorite artist and this song is one of the best ever, on my mind.
