    • @Crazael
      @Crazael Месяц назад +7

      Yeah. In a 40+ year career, the closest thing to a scandal he's had is that time Coolio didn't actually okay his parody of Gangsta's Paradise, and that was more the result of Coolio's agent not communicating with his client than anything Al did.

    • @Hanneth
      @Hanneth Месяц назад +2

      @@Crazael And even that says a lot about Weird Al. He doesn't have to get permission for any of his parody music. Fair use is sort of a muddy thing which usually has to be proven in court, with a lot of opinions. Fair use explicitly covers parody.
      That being said, Weird Al has never released a parody song without the direct consent of the artist who made the original song. He has gone to great lengths to contact the artists. If they say no, or he can't contact them, then the song never sees the light of day.

      Weird Al is probably the only person in the world who is uncancellable. It's not that he's powerful, it's that he's too brilliant and garners too much respect for his craft. No one who tried to do it would ever succeed, for all those who would rally around Al. Although... he could just destroy whoever tried it with a song anyway.

      This is Wierd Al's talent. Taking on the verbal tics, the twitches, the moves, everything which makes the original artist recognizable. Writing lyrics which work as well (or better!) than the originals. Doing this in every musical style for decades. And doing this for just about every great artist for the last 40 years. I firmly believe that Al is one of the top talents of our time, but few realize it. Having your own style is rare; being able to duplicate anyone elses style on command is unbelievable.

    Weird Al has great attention to details both musically and visually. Somewhere there's a video with both Bad and Fat played together and they match up beat for beat. He puts on a great concert. And his band is amazingly talented keeping pace with genre changes and comedy beats. If you want to watch something amazing that really would get cancelled today, check out Living with a Hernia. It's the only case where blackface is done 1) well and 2) with love...and I think it's the reason why he hasn't had to take it down or do a 'it was a different time' apology tour.

    The difference between body pride and body shaming is far more in the intent than the words - how it is being expressed. I know several people who are large that love this, but I also know a couple who did not. More that loved it than not but it does matter how you take it.
    If you haven't done Amish Paradise, I would recommend it. You might also like Foil.

    • @moorek1967
      @moorek1967 Месяц назад

      Yes, and it seems the "body positivity no fat shaming" influencers have been dying from the obesity. Why do we push down cigarette smokers but ok with people who are literally also ruining their health and lives? Do you see how hypocritical people are? You can pick out one thing and say that someone is harming themselves, but then say that another person who is causing as much damage to their body, we can't offend them even though we know they will eventually lose their lives because of us being afraid to offend them.
      If it saves a life, then it needs to be said.

    Weird Al is one of the greatest parody artists out there. He's been making music going back to the 80's. I highly recommend you watch the Hamilton polka. he manages to squeeze 13 songs from the play into one song. Given the complexity of the original music, it's amazing to see Weird Al woke his magic to pull even more out of it. and don't worry that Lin Manuel Miranda will be upset. there's a video out there where the two of them were on Jimmie Kimmel's show together and Lin and Jimmy geeked out together because they were long time fans of Weird Al. There are some out there in the musical circles that believe they've hit the peek of their careers because Weird Al made a parody of one of their songs.

    Good grief. Can ANYONE laugh anymore? All of your apologizing and borderline groveling to those poor people who might be offended made me stop watching. I think this video is hilarious! And guess what . . . I have been fat! I'm a little overweight now. But even when I was definitely fat, I loved this video. The younger generation is sucking all the good-natured fun out of life. Everyone is SO quick to get offended. My unsolicited suggestion to you would be . . . either do an honest reaction and post it without apology. . . or decide you don't want to post it. But doing a reaction where you're apologizing for doing the reaction makes no sense. PLEASE . . . stop being so politically correct! That being said, I've really enjoyed some of your other reactions.

    One key to the enduring charm of Weird Al is that he can do satire and parody without being mean-spirited about it. He doesn't put people down, he doesn't jeer. He is clever and absurd without punching down. He stays relatable and that lets us see ourselves in the absurdity and laugh at ourselves. He wouldn't have lasted so long and been so widely beloved if he was mean.
