Please react to "Word Crimes" from this same album. It really showcases his impeccable diction and voice clarity in a faster song, which has the added benefit that its not creepy and awful like the original lyrics.
Seeing someone discover Weird Al is always a joy. Especially when they're old enough to appreciate his talent as well as his humor. He's been doing this since the 70s, so you've got plenty of material for reactions as well as off-screen personal enjoyment.
Al doesn't do covers, he makes masterpieces. Madonna once said something like "you're no one until Weird Al does one of your songs". For the record, I believe he's done at least two of hers.
he actually has only done one full on spoof. "Like A Surgeon". However he has included at least 2 of her songs in 2 different polka medleys. Papa Don't Preach & Ray Of Light.
Back in the 80s, Weird Al was HUGE in geek circles and has always been. Seriously, it's hard to overstate how popular he was among the geek crowd. He is one of the very few artists who I will buy a new album of his without hearing a single song off it because I *know* it's going to be great... and that's been true since the 80s.
Hell yeah. in the late 70's or early 80's, I would listen to the Dr. Demento show on the radio every week and that's where I first heard Weird Al. Loved him from the first song I heard. The great thing about Dr. Demento was that he opened me up to a whole new world of funny radio, not just Wierd Al. Great acts like Kip Adotta, The Frantics, Joe the Love Potato, and so many others. I still have some cassette tapes I made from back then.
Yeah, I've been pretty obsessed with Weird Al since I was a kid (I've been a geek/nerd practically my whole life). I have mixed feelings about his popularity now. He deserves it, of course -- he should have been huge from the beginning. But now Weird Al is no longer a hidden treasure that geeks and nerds can appreciate and find camaraderie with.

One minor correction. He didn't "do" his hair for this. That's just his hair. I think you should also check out "Since You've Been Gone." It's not a cover or parody, but an original a capella song done in the 50's do-wop style.
I love that one from his Bad Hair Day album. My favorite painful example was "shove a red-hot cactus up my nose," but the best part is the punch line at the very end.
Fun bit of "Weird Al" trivia: Weird Al is one of only _5_ artists to have 4 Billboard Top 40 hits across 4 decades (the others being Kenny G, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and U2). That's at least one top 40 hit in each of the '80s, '90s, '00s, and '10s. Although arguably, Kenny G and Michael Jackson snuck in on technicalities (their music being included in a modern track via sample).
Congrats on discovering Weird Al. It's good that you started with The Saga Begins because that was a good showcase for his voice talents, which are often overlooked because of his clever lyrics and video. This parody shows off more of his creativity. Others show off his dancing and rapping skills. He truly is multi-talented, which is so rare.
I'd love to see more reactions to Weird Al. I don't think he's ever done a bad parody. And his videos are spot on with the original artists' videos. Especially the ones of Michael Jackson.
He's done some bad parodies, including one he admits was bad -- His Cyndi Lauper parody Girls Just Want to Have Lunch. He was forced by his record label to do a parody of Lauper because of how huge she was at the time. So he was forced into doing that parody and because of that it's not that good.

Scene for scene and move for move. Micheal loved Al's work. That is class is what he demonstrates.
Weird Al is a lyrical genius. I have loved listening to his songs since I was in junior high in the 80s. :D His video for "Tacky" is one of my favorites, because it is all done in one take, and the song is just so well done.
no joke, Al is a genius. He has hundreds of songs on the internet. Try "Word Crimes" or see his parody of Bob Dylan's masterpiece "Subterranean Homesick Blues" Al named it "BOB" and every single line not only rhymes but is a palindrome..
Beth, I was listening to Michael Mcdonald again (Doobie Brothers, occasionally Steely Dan). His voice is astounding and he seems to keep his warm, dark chest voice sound all the way up into his highest notes. And he is a tenor but has a warm bass-like resonance. I really want you to do a show on his voice . Maybe "What a Fool Believes".
The man who made a career out of trying to never pronounce a hard consonant. In all seriousness he does have an amazing voice, she should look up some of his music.
Weird Al is just a genius from writing to planning it out but what really impresses me is the fact that he's able to closely mimic the singing style of any singer that he is parodying because he does so many different styles and of course each singer has their own vocal format and he's able to really do a solid impression of those different formats which I find really really impressive
He’s a very underrated vocalist and he’s gotten better over time. He’s not so much an impersonator, but he’s able to shift tones to remind of the original vocalist.
Weird Al is the OG that hundreds or thousands of RUclipsrs have attempted to emulate. Everybody knows his comedy chops, but he's actually a versatile singer as well, as he demonstrates across a wide variety of pop/rock/rap/showtunes/younameit musical genres. Well done Beth!

Weird Al is probably one of the greatest songwriters in history, and having had the pleasure of seeing him live in Glasgow a few years ago, I can confirm he and his band are some of the greatest showmen too. I heartily endorse you do a reaction to his song Albuquerque from the Running with Scissors album. There's no official video, but various folks have uploaded it to RUclips, including a few live renditions
Weird Al was once quoted in an interview saying he came up with his lyrics while sitting in a bathtub filled with chocolate pudding so of course he is a genius.
There are people who have had a hit maybe even two with a parody song, but Weird Al has made an entire career out of it. And he only seems to be getting better as he ages.
Weird Al's parody of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" in "Bob" is beyond brilliant, particularly once you get the carefully-crafted bigger joke behind the lyrics.
Back in the day it seemed like ery other Weird Al parody was about food. It got to the point when he asked Kurt Cobain about parodying 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' he replied "Sure.(pause) It's not going to be about food is it?" To which Al replied about how it was going to be about how nobody could understand their lyrics. So when all us old Al fans heard 'Foil' for the first time we thought Foil was going to be about food like the first verse. It made the conspiracy turn in the second half all the better.

This man is a legend. The GOAT of parody. It's said that an artist hasn't really "made it" until Weird Al does a parody of their song. Now that you've seen a couple of his songs, I would love to see you react to: Living With a Hernia Like A Surgeon Germs Hardware Store Actually, ALL of his work, but that would take a bit of time. He's been doing this since the late 70's, early 80's.
A parody inside a parody. Only Al can pull this off. And so much better than the original. Have a listen/look at “Word Crimes” … the video on its own is unrivaled genius.
The most amazing thing about Al's voice (IMHO) isn't in his technique on any particular song, but rather just how many different styles he can adapt his voice to fit into. From Coolio to Nirvana, from Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga, his voice sounds as if it belongs in the song that you are listening to.
Weird Al is not just a comedic genius and adept at parody... he's a talented musician, got an expansive vocal mimicry ability and is a really compelling actor ! I mean he SOLD that entire performance, from the dismissive restaurant patron to the banal infomercial host... and BAM ! ... to the conspiracy theory nutjob... just soooo convincing ! My favourite Weird Al parody yet... and he's got a lot of them up there !
The thing I like about parody geniuses like Weird Al and Randy Rainbow is, they seem to realize that clever lyrics aren’t enough. If they are really going to sell the humor of the song, they have to take the music seriously. So, he uses his vocal technique to the best effect.
Hey Beth, he's barely scratched the surface of his genius. You don't have to listen to him all but just Google his catalog. It will blow your mind. that was fun You're awesome raaaaaaar❤️💚☘️
Weird Al's parodies are great because he doesn't just come up with a funny concept that rhymes with the chorus. He hews to every part of the song to really fashion his parody. In this song, when he switches gears and says "By the way, I've cracked the code," the original song says, "My friends and I? We've cracked the code." That little line that didn't make a huge difference in the tone of the original became a brilliant twist to the parody that still held true to the theme of the song.
okay, you need to do Weird Al's 'Fat' next! Not only is it exceptional writing and vocal mimicry of Michael Jackson's 'Bad', but MJ actually helped Al get the same subway space to film in! The music video parallels are genius!
Guess who lives under a rock and decided to come out today ! The ginger chick who knows about vocals. Today I discovered you, discovering a musical genius !
I'm so glad you've discovered Weird Al. I think you'll freak out if you react to Weird Al's style parody of The Doors. It's called Craigslist and he does Jim Morrison, spot on!!
It was so fun to watch you enjoy first listens to someone I've listened to for forty years. Combine amazing musical talent from him (and his band) with total commitment to whatever part he is playing in any song. The direct parodies are what made him famous but his many "style parodies" or just plain original comedy songs are a treat as well.

He's not just a parody artist, but a pop scribe as well. Listen to his albums in order and you'll hear the sounds of that time.
This man is a legend. The GOAT of parody. It's said that an artist hasn't really "made it" until Weird Al does a parody of their song.
Now that you've seen a couple of his songs, I would love to see you react to:
Living With a Hernia
Like A Surgeon
Germs
Hardware Store
Actually, ALL of his work, but that would take a bit of time. He's been doing this since the late 70's, early 80's.
Living with a Hernia! Germs! Great parodies of different singing styles.
Love you Bethroars! So happy when I see u react to stuff I like! You are great!
Weird Al is truly underrated as a singer. His actual singing ability gets lost in the fact that he is known for parodies.
Vocal Coach reacts to "Weird Al" Yankovic - Foil:
*starts listening to the song*
"I love the hair"
You are adorkable, and I love ya for it. Keep up the great reactions!
"Oh btw, ive cracked the code..."
Patton: u wot?
This guy? Put some respect on his name!! King of Parodies! A legacy all the way back to the 70's.
The thing I like about parody geniuses like Weird Al and Randy Rainbow is, they seem to realize that clever lyrics aren’t enough. If they are really going to sell the humor of the song, they have to take the music seriously. So, he uses his vocal technique to the best effect.
'He's clearly a genius...I wish I could do that.' Truth.
There's only one Weird Al.
Hey Beth, he's barely scratched the surface of his genius. You don't have to listen to him all but just Google his catalog. It will blow your mind. that was fun You're awesome raaaaaaar❤️💚☘️
This is awesome seeing you discover Weird Al. I think though you'd really enjoy Word Crimes, just feels like a song I think you'd love a lot.
Please react to more Weird Al Yankovich, I love his parodies. His versatility is amazing.
This is how Al usually wears his hair. Al is a clever man. And a parody master.....
Watching you enjoy this and realize how genius Weird Al is makes my week. Thank you!
That was BEYOND OUTSTANDING!!!
Weird Al's Pancreas will actually give you something to work with. It's amazing
You need to do his song "Hardware Store"!!! It has a 30-second segment that was done in one take in a single breath. It's incredible
okay, you need to do Weird Al's 'Fat' next! Not only is it exceptional writing and vocal mimicry of Michael Jackson's 'Bad', but MJ actually helped Al get the same subway space to film in! The music video parallels are genius!
He plays a mean accordion, too.

Guess who lives under a rock and decided to come out today ! The ginger chick who knows about vocals. Today I discovered you, discovering a musical genius !
I'm so glad you've discovered Weird Al.
I think you'll freak out if you react to Weird Al's style parody of The Doors. It's called Craigslist and he does Jim Morrison, spot on!!
you will be floored by the video of "another one rides the bus" performed on the Dr Dimento show by himself and his bud
Weird Al Yankovic, he had been doing parodies since the concept of "Parody was invented!"
His hair is one of his most recognizable features.
I love the back up singers Al is the GOAT. His work is broad. He is a great.
perfect 1st pause
It was so fun to watch you enjoy first listens to someone I've listened to for forty years. Combine amazing musical talent from him (and his band) with total commitment to whatever part he is playing in any song. The direct parodies are what made him famous but his many "style parodies" or just plain original comedy songs are a treat as well.
