I have had the joy of meeting Al. I got him to sign the back of an old IPod I was retiring to upgrade. Then a year later our paths crossed again, and he remembered me. I even got a note from him recently when a mutual friend recently passed away. He’s just genuinely a nice guy.
I still remember when the first season of Fox's Masker Singer came on. Everyone was speculating he might be the Peacock (Donny Osmond), and after it was revealed, he commented that "I was glad to find out it wasn't me"
There has been at least one artist who outright gave him the idea for the parody: Madonna, with Like a Surgeon. Also, concerning his asking for permission, it’s a rite of passage, and one time, he asked Lady Gaga to parody Born This Way, and one of her reps told him no without consulting her. The moment she heard about it, she immediately called him and gave him permission to do the song
Al has done three movies; UHF (watch it!), The Compleat Al, and the latest one Weird (starring Daniel Radcliffe.) UHF is an all time favorite of our family and we quote it all the time and force friends to enjoy it with us. We loved "Weird"
There are so many Weird Al songs out there that are just fantastic but don't get air time. Bedrock Anthem, Broadcast News, Christmas at Ground Zero, Inactive. The list goes on and on.
OMG, I love you. Yes, I do use the Oxford comma. Of course, my degree's in English lit (a million years ago, in the jurassic age of Nirvana and Semisonic and other early-to-mid-nineties weirdness) so it's practically a requirement that I either continue to use one until my dying breath or I get a tattoo of one. I adore Weird Al and have been a fan since I was in first grade (80/81, the prehistoric years when playground equipment was all metal and the ground around it was either dirt or pebbles or both). I lost my mind when his "I Love Rocky Road" video came out because I loved Joan Jett's "I Love Rock N Roll" (I was way too young for it, but taste knows no age), and the same goes for when his "Fat" followed Michael Jackson's "Bad". You guys are awesome for posting this. Genuine thanks from an old fart in Michigan!
Nice how he threw a little shade at Prince in this. He never let Weird Al parody any of his songs. In another interview, Al claims he was put in an awkward situation when he was seated in the same row as Prince during an award show, but was told not to make eye contact with him.
I'm literally beginning to literally think the word "literally" should literally be banned from the English language. I literally hear someone literally say that word, when they literally don't have to. (I even literally heard Weird Al himself literally say it.) I literally feel like I'm literally the only person in the world who literally never used that word, unless I'm literally making fun of someone who is.
I was listening to Weird Al on the Dr. Demto show back in the 70's, this guy is funny. I love this one, it's very catchy. And just for the record I use a browser add-on called Grammarly, helps me from making spelling errors and stuff. 😆
Definitely a banger from his latest album. And yes, the movie is FANTASTIC! It's a documentary of a parody artist, that itself is a parody of rockstar exposé documentaries. It's brilliant, with tons of awesome cameos.
The latest Weid Al movie starring Daniel Radcliffe is a lot of fun. Evan Rachel Wood does an outstanding job playing Madonna as does Rainn Wilson portraying Dr. Demento. I highly recommend it.
Prince is the only artist who always told him no when asked to make a parody of one of his songs. Someone asked if he would do one now after Prince's death and Al said no, that would be disrespectful. He does have an original song called Traffic Jam that is in the style of Lets Go Crazy.
I would love to see you react to more of his work...particularly: Hardware Store Amish Paradise (some controversy there) White And Nerdy Living With a Hernia
Funny. I used to work with a guy, his name Alex Yankovic, and we called him Weird Al. I'm an immigrant and didn't know who Weird Al was, so my other colleague introduced me to him. Alex is Serbian, so is Weird Al and correct pronunciation is CH at the end. Weird Al is true genius.
There was some beef between Al and Prince. When Al asked Prince to parody one of his songs, Prince got nasty with him. That is where the dig at Prince came from. Michael Jackson embraced Al and thought what he was doing was fantastic.
It's much better if you're familiar with the original song. Makes the parody much funnier. Also, his movie was in the late 80s. "UHF". Pre-Seinfeld Michael Richards, among other gems.
Weird Al makes the song, then asks the artist if it's ok. I know he makes the song before asking, because he asked Michael Jackson if he could parody "Black or White" and turn it into "Snack all night" and Michael said no. So Weird Al never released the song, but it does exist, he played it at least one time during a concert. you can find it on youtube. there are others where the artist didn't approve and so weird Al released the track for free. the only thing he wants the approval of, which he absolutely doesn't need, because its perfectly legal to parody someone, are the songs he puts on his albums and makes money from. the rest he releases for free.
The one way where I part with Al is: The Oxford Comma. It's right, it's proper and it's lazy to leave it out. Like I just left it out of the previous line. Doesn't this look better: It's right, it's proper, and it's lazy to leave it out.
Larkin Poe live at The Covenant House singing Mad As a Hatter. It’s not metal, but it blows my mind. It’s Edgar Allen Poe’s great great great great grandkids. Are they awesome? Quote the raven, Forevermore!!!!!
As someone who grew up with Al and Prince I wish Prince would have granted permission. The family has but Al said no as Prince didn’t want it. SERIOUSLY yellow snow? 😂😂😂😂 Prince & myself live(d) in Minnesota. I like close to Paisley park.
Yea, he asks permisison... but he can be pretty petty about it if hes turned down. He asked Eminem to parody Lose Yourself, Em said no... An Al cut togeather a mock interview with Em and mocked him relentlessly, its fakking hilarious. As far as I know, Weird Al is the only person ever to go after Em THAT hard and recieve no blowback. Al is a fakking legend, hes been doing this stuff forever and he IS, in his own way, just as brilliant as Em. Em is not oblivious to this. I have my suspicions that Em let it slide partly cuz he might have though he was being to anti and also that if he went after Al would really only give Al even more ammunition. Al is NOT a rapper, his reputation doesnt hinge on who wins the battle, Ems does. It would be a lose/lose situation for Em to engage in it.
Weird Al is a legend. The movie he came up with in my opinion,is dog crap. If you want to see a really hilarious Weird Al Yankovic movie, watch UHF. I stilll remain a huge fan
@@alexyu1236 I guess there's no arguing with a delusional person. I don't know what else to tell ya, dude. If you won't even accept how the man himself and his family pronounces it, then there is no convincing you.
When I watch a reaction to a clever music video like this one, I'm not looking to see someone bopping along awkwardly to the beat and saying "Wow, that was awesome!" afterward. I'm looking for someone to catch all the funny references and hidden gems in the video, maybe comment about the song a little bit. 0/10.
UHF is a good Weird Al movie but if you want true funny, watch The Jerk, Steve Martin’s 1st movie. He plays a white guy raised by a black family, and he’s just not very bright. Funniest movie ever, i promise The Wolf HunterZ
Weird Al has remained relevant longer than some of the artists he's parodied
Most*
@Fudgerigar was thinking the same thing lol
Certainly the case with Robin Thicke lol
That's so funny, I was going to say "most" also. He is way more talented than people give him credit for.
Truth.
Travis & Suzi
Weird Al was his class's Valedictorian at his high school graduation.
I have had the joy of meeting Al. I got him to sign the back of an old IPod I was retiring to upgrade. Then a year later our paths crossed again, and he remembered me. I even got a note from him recently when a mutual friend recently passed away. He’s just genuinely a nice guy.

I’ve been listening to Weird Al since the beginning of his career and this is definitely one of his funniest songs.
I still have the 45 " Another one rides the bus"!!
Been listening since Dr Demento in the 70s 😂
Dr demento days!
There has been at least one artist who outright gave him the idea for the parody: Madonna, with Like a Surgeon. He’s also done cameos in all 3 naked gun movies
UHF is hilarious 😂

It is Yankovic. No 'h'. It annoys Al when people say it wrong, though he is polite in correcting them.
This is one of my favourite Weird Al parodys LOL
ParodIES 😂
You should hire a cunning linguist
The movie was great. It's a parody of a music artist biopic...while also parodying Weird Al's actual biography. Super funny.
The best quote I heard from the writer of the movie when asked how factual it was "well Al had parents, plays an acordian and wrote those songs"
Nice how he threw a little shade at Prince in this. He never let Weird Al parody any of his songs. In another interview, Al claims he was put in an awkward situation when he was seated in the same row as Prince during an award show, but was told not to make eye contact with him.

I like the burn on Alannis Morrisette @6:15.
He has 2 movies out. The newer "biography " Weird, and back from the 1980's UHF, Which has Kramer from Seinfeld in it.
I love the Oxford comma. It keeps the rules the same for all situations that way.
The 'I could care less' phrase some Americans use drives me crazy. Thank God you two use the right version.

Please do some more Weird Al.
At least Travis didn't say "I literally have the worst grammar on the planet" So we can still interpret his statement as figurative.
Prince is the only artist who always told him no when asked to make a parody of one of his songs. Someone asked if he would do one now after Prince's death and Al said no, that would be disrespectful. He does have an original song called Traffic Jam that is in the style of Lets Go Crazy.
I've used the Oxford comma so often that it is pretty much a natural instinct to me
As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain
I take a look at my wife and realize she's very plain
You can tell from listening to this that he had a lot of fun producing this piece.
This is my all time favorite song. I absolutely hate Blurred Lines. This redeems it all.
Love both.
This is his best yet!
Check out his style alike for Devo called Dare to be Stupid, their lead singer called it the best song they never recorded...
The Oxford comma has been a habit, since elementary school.
Not a channel I watch, but reacting to Weird Al will definitely get my views and Likes 👍
Yes more weird Al just for the fun of it

You absolutely do need to know many things to write these songs, and all of that is covered by Al (Yan co Vick) being a genius.
✌🏼😎🇺🇸
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is hilarious if you aren't taking it seriously. Best way I can describe it.
There was some beef between Al and Prince. When Al asked Prince to parody one of his songs, Prince got nasty with him. That is where the dig at Prince came from. Michael Jackson embraced Al and thought what he was doing was fantastic.
It is Yan-ko-vik, with a K sound, not a tch. Just for accuracy.
Exactly...no CH at the end
Case in point of why WAY made this song/video... it is my honor to present to you...

Tacky is a must watch. Just saying. The cameos are worth it alone.
and the fact that it's done in one take is amazing
Hell yes for the Oxford comma!
I am obsessed with using the Oxford comma. I hate that it was made "ok" to exclude it. PISSES ME OFF! Non Oxford comma using mofos! lawl
Al said he is a huge grammar nerd, he even left an intentional grammar mistake in the song to see if any other grammar nerd caught it
These guys are great. I love there reaction.
Grammar, it’s the difference between knowing your shit and knowing you’re shit.
It's also the difference between "Let's eat, Grandma!" and "Let's eat Grandma!" ;-)
Oxford comma...yep. I loved to diagram sentences. Some people know math, Grammer came natural to me.
My favorite Weird Al cover.
Both Madonna and Michael Jackson actually took part in the making of their respective parodies
The movie he did was UHF it is a great movie I have been a weird Al since he started.
I always break all the word crimes lol
No oxford comma, the nuns at St Joes would roll in their graves.
The genius of Weird Al.
Weird Al makes the song, then asks the artist if it's ok. I always use the Oxford comma.
The Movie "Weird" is really great
Dave grohl said he new nirvana had made it when wierd al did smells like nirvana
Check out his parody of Ferrell's Happy, "Tacky." It's hilarious and has a lot of stars and comedians in the video.
"What's a contraction?"

Yup, Oxford comma.
I love the intro

I say NO! to the Oxford comma.
Might I suggest Jarrasic Park if you want to do another.
The weird al movie was great RIP al.
Chamillionaire has said that Wierd Al’s parody of Riding Dirty is better than his original song
Who doesn't love cunning linguists? 😂😂🤣🤣😂😂
The last part of his last name is pronounced Vick
Just like it's spelt- Yanko Vic
i would recommend his version of michael jacksons version of bad called fat very funny!
