I recognize that face.
Anyone else feel like they're caught cheating on their reactors?
Jamel has been down that rabbit hole and I followed him too! Love both of you!
Jamel is in the house ... *yeah/party ♥
Hey Jamel!
JAMEL!! Love your channel brah! Still plenty more of Weird Al for you both!
As an English professor, I must confess and profess that this is one of my favorite Al songs. If it's not easily measurable, it's less. If it's measurable, it's fewer. I have less milk than you. I have fewer apples than you. Write on!
My apologies, is milk not easily measurable? Would this be a better example? "I have less empathy than you."
Replace the word "measureable" with "countable"
"fewer" is for countable units ] "She has drunk fewer beers than I"] and "less" is for volumes {"I have less beer in my glass than she does."]
I'm just sitting here thinking: "Lady, if the explanation in the video is not enough I don't know what to say. It's right there in the frame you paused on."
Yet in every grocery store across the US you will see a check out for 15 items or less. Common usage trumps style guides since what is correct changes over time. In fact the less versus fewer debate circles around a comment made by someone in 1770 about their preferred usage and in fact there is no true hard and fast rule. So usage wins the day.
@@pjschmid2251 "usage wins the day" is a race to the bottom. ruclips.net/video/RGWiTvYZR_w/видео.html
VHS Archive So you advocate a language that stands still and never changes? If that were the case we would still be speaking Elizabethan English or something even older. Languages evolve and change over time. To deny that just means you’re stuck with a language that eventually dies.
@@pjschmid2251 The ultimate objective of language is to clearly express feelings and ideas. I'm in favor of changes which further that objective. New words are great, more precise language is great. But if we have words that have different established meanings, it serves no constructive purpose to use them interchangeably. Using "of" in place of "have" (would of, etc.) is a devolution. It isn't change, it's ignorance, and it undermines the purpose of having language at all.
You haven't heard Weird Al spit bars until you hear Hardware Store.
circular breathing, speed rap, AND BARS?! hardware store = BEST
There are two kinds of rap fans: those who can rap Rap God and those who can rap Hardware Store.
Hardware Store is an excellent suggestion!
Yea I recommended this on her first video of weird al.
Like a full auto nail gun
If I was an English teacher I would totally use this to teach students. Or as an introduction to the class at the beginning of the school year.
I'm not sure they allow people with captain spaulding avatars into children's classrooms, but i don't rightly know
I'm an English teacher and I actually DO use it from time to time to educate my more advanced students 😂
"If I WERE an English teacher." Here's another classic: "Swingin' the Alphabet" by the Three Stooges. or "Interjections" by Schoolhouse Rock.
My English teacher did just that
@@davidlafleche1142 How about Conjunction Junction?
The difference between irony and coincidence has a nice callback to Alanis Morrisette.
Commas are important Let's eat grandma is different from Let's eat, Grandma
That's funny. I love "Eats, Shoots & Leaves" by Lynne Truss.
Oxford commas are for when there are several items mentioned. The last one can have a comma before it (the Oxford comma) or not. This, that, and the other. This, that and the other. Both are correct. Or either is correct if you prefer.
I ate my grandma. And it took a week cuz she was huge
@@timcarr6401 I also like the book "Eats, Shoots & Leaves".
From your reaction to #cuninglinquist, I’m sure you recognize just what a wordsmith Al is.
He IS the parody GOAT!
Love the reaction.
I actually broke a bit of laughter when I saw her face freeze. ;-)
I do wonder what she was thinking...
Cunninlynguists are the best southern hip-hop group of the past 20 years. Check out A Piece Of Strange
@@willywonka7812 I bet they play some great licks!
@@alanr4447a ha, well no sadly, cos they're hip hop, so not so guitar driven, but they do use their mouths to leave u all shook up
"Tacky" should be near the top of your Weird Al list. :)
Tacky is amazing! So many wonderful comedians in the video.
and Handy.
The "there" "their" "they're" thing was a veiled reference. "Time to learn your homophones is past due."
My favourite Weird Al song.It should be played in all English classes.
That's a good idea really
"Who knows the difference between less and fewer/"
He LITERALLY spelled it out for you XD
after this, you should have no excuses
You shouldn't have abused the L-Word like that. Weird Al corrected you. _Now so will everyone else!_ AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!
@@r0bw00d yeah, like saying "you literally have no excuses"
@@r0bw00d they actually used the word literally correctly, what do you mean.
@@watcherwlc53 Which is correct, since that is LITERAL, not hypothetical or figurative. She has no excuses at all.
@@CarMedicine I said abused, not used incorrectly.
1. The L-Word word isn't an emphatic.
2. There's no way to figuratively spell something out, so the L-Word's inclusion is unnecessary.
May I suggest his "Dare to be Stupid"?
"I'm surprised he hasn't done Ditty" It's called All About The Pentiums.
By he, do you mean Weird Al? He has.
What kind of you got in there? A Dorito? ...masterpiece!
"Less" is an amount. "Put less butter on my pancakes". "Fewer" is what can be counted. "Put fewer pancakes on my plate." Like "More" for example: ""Give me more ScribeCash, I think I'm in love with her!"
Sure, but you could say "less traffic" in English, despite being countable. In my native language, we may even speak about "less cars", "less fruit", or "less oranges" in an abstract sense. (Not sure about English in that case.) But we would never reverse it and say "fewer juice", of course. That would sound as crazy as it would in English.
@@herrbonk3635 Less traffic, yes. Fewer cars, yes. I'll leave it at that. Peace.
Grammar is very important to Al. Very smart guy. He entered high school at 12, graduated at 16 as valedictorian then went to college and got a degree in architecture :)
You should check out “Hamilton Polka “. Not a parody but he breaks the entire musical down into like 5 minutes
Trapped in the drive-thru the Parody of Trapped in the closet.
And the original song is pretty hilarious too.
I love her smile when she's laughing. 😊
I've seen many Weird Al music suggestions in the comments. The two that I've seen the least are "Perform This Way" and "Bob". Those videos are hilarious!
It's ironic asking for help with less vs fewer while staring at a diagram showing you the difference between less and fewer 😄
He did Bohemian Rhapsody as a polka! 🤣
Oh, please react to Bohemian Polka. I don't think anyone else has!
David Reynolds 💁🏾♀️ He also did “Another One Bites the Dust” parody polka style as well✌🏾
@Motown that was more parody than polka style. Remember his polkas are using the same lyrics but changing the musical style, while his parodies are same music different lyrics
David Reynolds 💁🏾♀️ Gotcha✌🏾!
Love the dual, not duel, Weird Al and Steely Dan rabbit holes. 🔥
Can’t WAIT for ya to hear his parody of Em’s “Loose Yourself” called “Couch Potato!” Em KNEW better than to allow Al to do the accompanying video on this one 🤣
Thank you! 😂 This was my first time too! ❤ Love from Oklahoma!
Hand raised! 🤣
The thing about Weird Al, I can't remember anyone else making a career out of parody. I mean, everyone has at least one good idea for a parody, but to do it for 40 years? Song after song? And get better at it? He is a genius at his art!
He made fun of Prince because Prince would never allow him to make a parody of his songs.
😂 Watcher WLC 💁🏾♀️ Plus the fact that Prince DID utilize numbers in the spellin’ of a lot song titles ‘n lyrics✌🏾
@@Motown-1966 that means Prince invented 1337 $₱33K
@@esmooth919 😂 Yup
Even funnier: Stan Freberg produced a TV commercial for Prince Spaghetti: "In Concert...PRINCE!" The (so-called) "artist" sued! But the pasta company said, "We were here first!"
He hasn't released a new album since Mandatory Fun (which included Word Crimes). He's said that he probably won't return to the album release format and would release singles and EPs on the internet and that he'll write more when inspiration hits. The Hamilton Polka is his most recent single release (not counting the Biden-Trump debate video he surprised us all with this past week). He's got a wealth of material to work with right now. OMG. If he found an angle to parody WAP, I'll fall out of my chair.
Id freakin DIE laughing more than likely 😂😂😂😂
Al did this as a parody of the song "Conjunction Junction" from the show "School House Rock"-the children's show in the 1980's. I still love that show and this parody!
I love that you noticed the "Weird Al has a big dictionary" almost no other reactor noticed that little detail.
p.s. Check his polka medleys (where he does a ton of random songs in a polka version), some are: "Now that's what I call polka", "Polka face", "Polka Power", etc...
Did you catch SOMECUNNINGLINGUIST?
@@Bozbaby103 based on her face I think she did 😂
@@Bozbaby103 I've been carrying my lantern all over RUclips to find somone who did! :D
Being a nerdy crossword addict my entire adult life, this Weird Al parody hit home when I first ran into it.
Their, they're, there, don't let it get to you!
This is one of my favorite Weird Al songs
Just came across this. There's always something joyful watching someone enjoy something for the first time that you've been a fan of for a long time.
The production level in this one is fantastic, that's what I love about this one and the one Living in An Amish Paradise, so much done to make a funny parody
I like be how everyone in the comments trying to be all proper now lmao 🤣. They don't worry about it on social media till they're trying to prove how smart they are 😂
Although Weird Al is the Goat for parodies, he also has an amazing list of original works, One of my favorites is "Albuquerque" He also does some incredible medleys, "Polkas on 45".
He said Cunning Linguist. OMG Al, that is soo dirty!
Al left one dangling participle for the real grammar nerds out here
I need Weird Al to teach me math.
He's just a genius.
I was a volunteer tutor to immigrant kids in NYC and used this song. Not all Online content isgood reading. It's a generational thing also. I grew up reading the paper every week. Books.
So you are watching a video mocking word crimes....
"I love my Dad, but he really do be doing that."
Lol
I love that you are doing the Weird Al rabbit hole! :) always the best reactions from you , you are crushing
I've linked this video so many times on Facebook posts. Lol
I love when you say, "Let's get weird up in here"! Lol!
Next time, Al should include "I be messing it up too".
Word Crimes is on my top 5 from Weird Al Yankovic! This song truly makes you think. 😉😊
Weird Al took one look at Blurred Lines said nope and turned it into a hilarious song to teach people about proper grammar.
OMGosh you are so right about black people putting "S" at the end of words! Your video was great!!! You have a beautiful smile and understood the grammar ! I love your reaction! Homophone: There, they're , their lmao
I loved your reaction, keep up the good work!
He was a staple of early MTV, when they actually played videos.
Al likes his Prince digs. I had never noticed this one before.
"Cunning linguist" first time I noticed that. Al has layers.
You bring so much fun, I had 2 watch it three times.opps
Enjoying your Weird Al journey. I'm up for any song of his you want to do a reaction to. Might be interesting to see some non-parody Weird Al songs at one point. Perhaps even doing one of his polka songs which he basically sings parts of a lot of popular songs (not parody versions) but does it in the style of polka.
I personally love a lot of his older stuff but if you don't know the song he's parodying then it might make it less enjoyable than it should be. Still a lot of good stuff there though.
yeah, when doing a song of his that is a parody, react to the original first then react to the parody. makes more sense. literally.
He does a lot of original stuff. The only serious song he ever did was "Skipper Dan."
this is one of my fave Weird Al vids along with "Germs"
Love your reaction.
There was an Easter egg in the beginning. Going through the letter A in the dictionary was a picture of AL playing his accordian.
2:40 "less" is smaller amount of one thing/substance like "I will take less water", "fewer" is smaller amount, like "I will take fewer amount of juice" like you will not take 10 glasses of juice but just 5.
haha, I'd never heard this one...thanks for bringing it to my attention. :)
Good point! Maybe they’re really sensitive and there would be too (another one- to, too, two lol) many of their feelings hurt-😂 sorry I had to go THERE! 😬😉
Nice 👍
In some communities the word 'they're' has completely vanished. Instead: "They crazy." or "They be crazy."
Then there's a complete breakdown of 'there' 'they're' and 'their.' "They clothes be messed up."
"She war a yellow dress."
A lot of folks should not have graduated from High School. They can't write complete sentences. Their grammar is poor and their spelling is horrendous.
Man, I remember watching some of your reactions at just a few thousand subs, I'm embarrassed to say tho that I just noticed I haven't been subbed 😅✌️ let's go 60k lol
I love your reactions
Yes! Yay, thank you girl! 💜✌️✨
Thank you, for bringing this to my attention.
Hvala.
How have I never heard this song?! Awesome!
One thing he forgot to mention about is how some people use a plural with an apostrophe "s". (Word Crimes vs. Word Crime's)
Also, I always laugh whenever I hear someone say there literally doing something. (Notice the little joke I made they're?)
I'm gettin' my edumakation threw dis! 😁
This is one of my absolutely favorite from Al!!
"Couch Potato" next.
You use "less" if the subject isn't countable (like a glass of water) "there is less water in this glass than the other". You use "fewer" if the subject is countable. There are fewer dishes in the cupboard than on the table. 😉
Thank You!
Even though parodies are protected under Fair Use and his band recreates the song by ear instead of relying on sheet music, "Weird Al" requests permission from the artist before doing a parody. Prince was famous for always denying a request to parody, while Sir Paul McCartney's requested the parody of 'Live and Let Die' be changed from 'Chicken Pot Pie' to 'Veggie Pot Pie' (because he's a vegetarian) required so many changes that Yankovic dropped the project. Madonna claims that she came up with the title 'Like a Surgeon' for the parody of her song 'Like a Virgin', but it turned out that she and Yankovic just have similar senses of humor - you can see her do a cameo in the parody of 'Born This Way' by Lady Gaga, called 'Perform This Way'.
The only time he didn't have permission from the artist directly was for the parody of Coolio's 'Gangster's Paradise', called 'Amish Paradise' - Yankovic had gotten permission from the producers, but not the artist directly, and assumed that Coolio had approved. Since then, he's made sure to speak with the artist directly.
Love it man dudes a genius man so smart in different ways man the first pordy singer can take any song and make his own
2:01 George Newman is Weird Al's character in UHF
Almost every grammatical topic mentioned is defined or illustrated (briefly) in the video. For less vs fewer, he shows an empty vs full glass as an example of "less" and one bottle vs three bottles as an example of "fewer".
They go by quickly, so you have to pause often to get the full effect.
Fewer is used when the amounts of what you're counting can be counted in discrete units. Less is used when not. Less milk. Fewer glasses of milk. Less water in the glass. Fewer ounces of water in the glass.
If you have one cake, and someone takes one slice out of it, you now have less cake. If you have 3 cakes and someone takes 2 of them, you now have fewer cakes.
A 1/4 cup of water is less than a cup of water.
Having a pair of glasses is fewer than having a pair of glasses for each day of the week.
"I could care less"
That's definitely a word crime.
It's supposed to be "I could care *fewer".😁*
The goal is 60k? I never paid attention, but figured you were way passed 60 already.
This song is unique being that it in the ONLY song in which Al took a legit shot at someone. In the second chorus is the line "You should never white words with numbers unless you're 7 or your name is "Prince"'. Al legitimately did this to make Prince angry, as the two had a real beef because Prince refused to allow Al to parody his music, because he thought it would make his songs look immature and stupid. Right up to the day Prince passed away, they hated each other.
If you can count it (like bottles) it's fewer; if you can't count it (like water), it's less...😊
The less and fewer thing is pretty simple. When you can count something as in giving it a number its fewer, but if it's in terms of amount of something not countable it's fewer. Just like the picture in the video. One glass had LESS water than the other, but one bottle is FEWER bottles than three.
IMHO, EVERY English teacher should use this video in class. At least once. Tell me I'm wrong. This would be so perfect to pound in lessons so quickly in dense heads, and in a fun way at the same time.
A lot of people confuse less and fewer. Use fewer for quantities that can be counted, and use fewer when they cannot be counted. For example, I had less money after I spent all day at the amusement park, and I also had fewer dollar bills. There were fewer customers in line at the supermarket when I shopped at 11PM, and there was also less traffic on the roads.
Love your videos you remind me of my bestie ❤️
Yha you're what I need after hard work...
Weird Al made a music video of last weeks presidential debate, auto tuning parts of what Biden and Trump said with Weird Al singing as the moderator. Superbly done, I found it searching 'Weird Al doomed' on RUclips.
Thank you
Less water in a glass versus fewer beans in a succotash or fewer dogs versus less dog spit.
If the stuff you want reduced has a plural ess, it is fewer: fewer flowers.
If the stuff you want reduced has no plural ess, it is less: less grass.
Next song - "Like a Surgeon"
It's all about the Pentiums = Ditty
Couch Potato = Eminem
Hardware Store = Weird Al original rap
Can't go wrong with Weird Al. Keep it going.
love this every time i hear this song love rap
Trapped in the Drive thru, parody of trapped in the closet
It's less when measured, it's fewer when counted.
Less = non-countable nouns, and fewer = countable nouns. If you can count it, use fewer. If it's something you measure, use less. For example, you wouldn't say "add fewer flour to the cake mix."
The few bottles came with less water in them...
