I've been looking for this recipe since I was a teen-ager. We were at a great restaurant in Gatlinburg TN that had dumplings in the home-made blackberry cobbler that I've never forgotten, that was 50 years ago!! I'll be making this tomorrow, thank you!!
My grandma made a BlackBerry roll, it's just not put in a dish and cooked, but rolled out and baked. It was to die for and now I'm craving it so bad. She didn't finish telling me to get the bucket and go gather the berries and I was already out the door. I miss her so much and her cooking. I've yet to meet anyone that can top it. No offense, Tammy. I am a bit bias, I admit.
When we visited my grandmother in Tennessee during the summer we would pick fresh blackberries and she'd make the most delicious blackberry cobbler and always with home-made vanilla ice cream with the old timey ice cream makers you had crank the handel manually.. all us kids would take turn... Blackberry cobbler always brings back great memories.
Tammy it looks delicious!! You brought back wonderful memories of wild blackberry patches next to our home. My brother's and I would pick the berries and bring them to mom. She would bake us a cobbler similar to yours. Mom cooked with simple ingredients and lots of love. Thanks for the memories!
My momma always made this for me on my birthday. Also my granny would make this for me when I visited her in Tennessee. It did bring back good memories Tammy. Have a blessed day. Love y'all..🤗
Never had it with milk or cream in it. We would sometimes pour milk over it in our dish before eating it though. This looks so rich and delicious - I think we need to try it this way!
Toni from. Lakeland. Florida in polk county.when i. Was akid i pick them for mothet andshe maid somr of the best in the world. And. Id make a bet that. Yourd does. To toni . From polk county. F l orida. f
If we made sweet dumplings, we drop them into a pot of simmering fruit with the thickening juices. Like a fruit soup. Blueberry or peach 🍑 is our favorite.
I was a grown woman and keeping my own house before I realized what we called cobbler was actually fruit dumplings. Made on the stove top like chicken and dumplings.
That cobbler's making my mouth water. I hope you have enough to share and to ship to the ones who can't come over. (ME!) 😉😂 Fruity cobblers are delish. We used to live on 19 acres. A huge section had blackberries and raspberries that we never planted. I'd easily pick a gallon. I'd make cobblers with them mostly. We also had 2 peach trees, a plum tree and a pecan tree that grew paper shells. Pecans are expensive. Especially when you need a quart of chopped pecans for homemade fruitcake. So, having the tree saved us a lot of money. I miss that old place. Unfortunately, they turned into a subdivision.
I totally agree with eating most desserts at room temp or cold. I can't think of too many things besides maybe an apple dumpling that is good hot when it's sweet, but even the apple dumplings are better the day after.
Tammy, I only use milk for cooking and don't like to buy it and end up throwing some out that doesn't get used. I have started using Gossner shelf stable milk, available as whole, 2% or skim, from Dollar Tree. The containers are just like cartons of broth only it's milk. Once opened, it stays good in refrigerator for a couple of weeks. It's thrifty, healthy and I have turned alot of my friends to using it. It's available at Dollar Tree for $1 per carton. No waste!
How large is the carton? If it is only a quart you are paying FOUR BUCKS a gallon. I just went into Gossner's site. They are listing the carton size as 8 ounces. That factors out to SIXTEEN bucks a gallon. It is much cheaper to buy a gallon and throw half of it out. It bothers me that it is heated to 280. WOW! If you are concerned about the waste on a gallon, buy it by the quart, you will still save some change on the transaction.
We don't have many people that make pies from scratch. I'm a old fashioned pastry çook who got her skills of baking from school. My father loved sweets and would buy everything I needed to bake his favorite thing. That was in 1970s and I don't eat much sweets because I have type 2 sugar. Anyone eat my sweets, would get too fat.
Can't wait to make this! The first video I watched of yours was chicken and dumplings (because I had not a clue how to make the dumplings part) and I was hooked. Love the end with a special thanks to Chris. You both do an awesome job. Always be thankful 🙏. I'm thankful for all your delicious recipes and kitchen gadgets I never knew existed. Stay safe and healthy.
Tammy, thought you might like this little story.. The History of 'APRONS' I don't think our kids know what an apron is. The principle use of Grandma's apron was to protect the dress underneath because she only had a few. It was also because it was easier to wash aprons than dresses and aprons used less material. But along with that, it served as a potholder for removing hot pans from the oven. It was wonderful for drying children's tears, and ...on occasion was even used for cleaning out dirty ears. From the chicken coop, the apron was used for carrying eggs, fussy chicks, and sometimes half-hatched eggs to be finished in the warming oven. When company came, those aprons were ideal hiding places for shy kids.. And when the weather was cold, Grandma wrapped it around her arms. Those big old aprons wiped many a perspiring brow, bent over the hot wood stove. Chips and kindling wood were brought into the kitchen in that apron. From the garden, it carried all sorts of vegetables. After the peas had been shelled, it carried out the hulls. In the fall, the apron was used to bring in apples that had fallen from the trees. When unexpected company drove up the road, it was surprising how much furniture that old apron could dust in a matter of seconds. When dinner was ready, Grandma walked out onto the porch, waved her apron, and the men folk knew it was time to come in from the fields to dinner. It will be a long time before someone invents something that will replace that 'old-time apron' that served so many purposes. Send this to those who would know (and love) the story about Grandma's aprons. REMEMBER: Grandma used to set her hot baked apple pies on the window sill to cool. Her granddaughters set theirs on the window sill to thaw. They would go crazy now trying to figure out how many germs were on that apron. I don't think I ever caught anything from an apron - but love...❤
Wow.. brings wonderful memories back...my grandma cooked her blackberries dumplings cobbler in a pot on the stove. She did this with peaches also. Mmmmm
Hi Tammy and Chris. Hope your having a wonderful weekend. We’re having a lot of rain. That cobbler looks so good. I just ate but could have some cobbler!
Oh this sounds so good. I love blackberries. I remember eating them straight out if yhe woods as a little girl growing up in TN. I love cobblers. I can't wait til I'm able to try this soon as I'm well enough to cook quaint. Getting over an injury and pretty much stuck in bed for another month. Prayers appreciated yall. Love love live this channel ❤️. Thanks so much for all you do
Sorry , I also a girl pick them . We made cobbler but now I can't digest all those seeds. I wish they were seedless. 😊 Thanks but I will make peach. Good recipe though.
Looks nommy and bring back memories!! My grandmother would make this and either do dumplings in a pot OR a crusted pie in the oven so this is first time I’ve seen both together. I’d say you’re right girl- she must’ve added milk to her thickener. Now- I recall there being a milky creamy consistency sometimes and I don’t think it’s milk that caused that- I think it’s the dumplings flour leeching into it. Maybe...? Also I get the whole room temperature thing. Yum 😋
This looks so pretty and delicious! I’ve never had cobbler with dumplings but I love dumplings! And Blackberry cobbler so I’m sure it’s sooooo good! Thanks Chris and Tammy
This brings back so many memories of my Mamaw's blackberry dumplins!❤ I can't wait to try it. Thank you for these cherished memories you brought back to me.
I love blackberry cobbler. Momma made the best I've ever eaten. She never put milk in hers. She made her dumplings the day of cobbler making. She just dropped them into her boiling juice and the flour from the dumplings thickened the juice. She would make a lattice crust to top her cobbler. It was always so good right out of the oven. I do like it cold also or room temperature. It's just good stuff! My son makes a delicious one also! Thanks for sharing. We love y'all.. 🥰
Yum!!! 😋🤤 Brings back memories of when I was a little girl picking blackberries off the bush and eating that delicious blackberry cobbler. And what we didn't eat, momma n daddy would let us go selling them door to door back in the 70's. Sure couldn't do that now! I think what I love most about you is that you're so comfortable in the kitchen, not pretentious at all. Just a good Ole Southern cook that isn't afraid to make a mistake because then you get to make lemonade outta the lemons. 👍👍
I love blackberry cobbler and blackberry pie both. This cobbler is made different from the one made in my family down through the years. Will definely give it a try. Cinnamon can be used in blackberry cobblers and pies we have always used cinnamon with blackberries.
My mother used to make the best blackberry cobbler! She did not put dumplings in hers but made it with a double crust - and yes, the bottom crust did get done! It was not soggy! Not sure how she accomplished that! The top crust she put some type of egg white wash on and sprinkled with a good bit of sugar so that it kind of glazed the top. Then she served it with sweet cream - not whipped, but sweet. And I wish I had her recipe for that, as well! It was oh sooo good! My favorite of all the sweets she ever made!
Oh my! I have been looking for this type of cobbler recipe. My grandmother used to make this, and being a kid I had not watched how she made it. But sure did love eating it!! Better than the drop dough cobbler I have come across. Thank you ❤️💋
My mom used to make black berry pie it’s very good thank you for your time,God Bless you. I enjoy watching you cook, you are very good, doing a good job.
I have a blending fork. I use it when I fry chicken and other things. It is one of the best things I have ever purchased. I bought some blackberries yesterday and I am going to make a cobbler today. There is nothing better in the hot summer than a blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. I like this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
I made it and it was so good! I saved some extra dumplings when I made chicken n dumplings which made it easier. Thank you for your videos, recipes and most of all for sharing your faith.
When my granny made her blackberry cobbler she just boiled her berries with sugar then put it in a 13x9 cake pan and put drop biscuit dough on top then butter then topped it with sugar then baked it. It was delicious .
Tammy u just made my favorite cobbler as a child I watched my mother making blackberry cobbler but I never put milk/cream in mine but seeing u do that I’m going to try that version too. Beautiful cobbler Tammy enjoy 😊
Sweet Tammy, That looked 😋 "scrumtiously" delicious!! So beautiful creamy, love this recipe with the milk added🤗 I've never tried that but will from now on. You are such a great cook & Thank you for that, also thank you Chris for being such a great cameraman! 🙏God Bless Y'all💖 Loves ya, Pat W. 🌺🌴
Very similar to my Mom's! She put pet milk in it too. She also strained SOME of the blackberries. She let the berries & sugar sit out for hours to form its own juice. Very very little water added. I like it juicy & room temperature too!❤
Very yummy!!! Few helpful tips...... 1. After the berries cook for the 10 minutes, reduce heat. Simmer berries uncovered until liquid reduces to about half. 2. Temper the milk before adding it to the hot pot. Take out about a cup of the hot liquid and slowly add the milk to it... mixing constantly until all in. Then return the mix to boiling pot. No curdling. 3. Try sprinkling sugar on top of the crust before putting it in the oven for a bit of a sweet crunch.
Looks yummy! I cooked my blackberries already. I will do the crust in the morning. Thanks for sharing. My first time seeing anybody make blackberry cobbler this way!
Blackberry pie, cobbler....ummm my favorite! Loved it when you said something about the clabbored milk. I grew up with that term but haven’t heard anyone else say that in a long time.
Love it. My mother made cobblers all the time. I loved them and most people don't make them like this anymore but been looking for a recipe with the dumplings in the cobbler and so thankful you did this. I love watching you. God bless and take care love ya!
My grandmother would make blackberry dumplings and we would dip up straight from the pot. It was delicious! Your way is wonderful! Tammy...I'm sure by now you have heard about Heather and her family at The Kneady Homesteder. If not, watch her latest video.
I Love Anything BlackBerry! I've never had cobbler made like this & especially not with dumplings made in it. I consider dumplings a meal & cobbler a dessert, so for my family I'm going to say this is dinner & dessert all rolled up into one! Lol
That looks good Tammy! I'll have to make that soon.I love blackberries & remember my grandma Marshburn's cobbler that was delish! That's why my mom cooked so good...she had the best teacher! I miss them both so much! They cooked good southern food like you!
Oh my goodness that looks delicious!🤤 I've never made cobbler before, but being a fan of berries, especially blackberries, I just might attempt to make this!Edit: Tammy, your my "momma from another granmaw", lol j/k. You're too young to be a granny. Much love from Southern, Cali lol!
My mom used carnation evaporated milk in most of her cooking unless she was out of it. She even mashed potatoes with it and butter and everyone always raved about her cooking. She also told me that if they did t have fresh cows milk (ie: City folk) that was the baby formula they fed their babies with! Add a little water and shake. I couldn’t believe it but it’s true. A lot has changed in the las 100 years!
Tammy just was looking at your Amazon store list and have found more items to buy yet again. Lol 😂 Just can’t stop myself. I tell my husband if Tammy says it good then I must have it. Already have so much of your must haves. Love to look and find new things. We girls love kitchen items. Even us just ok cooks. 😀
I've been out picking blackberries today for the day and I've got to make a cobbler and get this outta my system lol. It won't be as good as mammas with the homemade biscuit topping but I'll try! Such a nostalgic dish to make 💕
My mother made a blackberry cobler that had dumplings in it when I was real young and I loved it. She passed away before I thought to get her goid recipes so now I know how to make it! And it's so funny that you said that you liked it best at room tempurature. I do too and for the exact same reason, I used to sneak and eat it cold when I was a kids too. ❤
And I forgot to mention that on my BlackBerry dumplings even my cobbler and pies I do an egg wash and I use the real fine baking sugar to me I just I love it but everybody's different I don't know if you've ever tried it that way but you might enjoy it Tammy just just a thought never would I ever tell you how to cut because you're a excellent cook thank you so much for all you wonderful information and your great ideas that you share with all of us and RUclips subscribers I have a God blessed day sweetie
OMW we use to go blackberry picking with our mom, I think we ate more of them than what we kept Lol and after we got home my mom would make a cobbler out of them. This cobbler you made looks so yummy
Thank you Tammy for this lovely recipe. I can't wait to make this delicious cobbler. My gramma always put dumplings in her's too. Peach, cherry, apple. any of them. I can't wait.
Oh my Tammy, this is my favorite desert ever! I've never made one nor have I ever eaten one with dumplings. I'm gonna try to make one, soon. Do you ever put a bottom crust on these or would that be just too much crust because of the dumplings? I love the crust so I know I'll flip over the dumplings. I've gotta look and see if you've made a video with the sweet potato casserole with dumplings. If you haven't already, would you please add it to your request list? I've never eaten a sweet potato casserole with or without dumplings but I love candied yams so I'll probably like that too. Thanks again for posting this! 😘
Blackberry cobbler is one of my faves. As a kid my sisters and I would go pickin early in the morn and mom would make us a cobbler. We would pour milk over it and gobble it up. ☺💝
Hello, Tammy! I truly appreciate your videos and you for taking the time to make them. Question: Can you make a BlackBerry Cobbler using ONLY the juice from the berries? That's the way my Mom made hers because I didn't like the berries. It will be greatly appreciated if you can do a video on the Cobbler without the berries. Thanks, Rachel Pierce
Hi Tammy so proud you got sponsored by the best flour!! Congrats on all your hard work. You have the best cooking around and you give so many good tips about cooking. Been trying to start making more videos had some things that prevented me from making any for awhile. Hope you are doing really well. Just wanted to say hi and congrats we love you!-----------------------Tressa Daigle
No thanks, I'll stick with my moms, grandma, and great grandmas, and the rest of our friends and family make the recipe in the mountains of east Tn. without dumplings and a lot less liquid in the berries with corn starch to thicken, and the pastry is 1cp milk, 1cp sugar, 1cp flour mixed and just pour it over the blackberries in the baking pan and bake til golden brown. We like our pastry to be sweet, not like a biscuit and definatly not like a pie crust which just makes it a square pie, not a cobbler, lol. We like it hot with ice cream or with butter and/or milk poured in the bowl with it.
Hi again Tammy 🙋🏻♀️🥰❤️ this looks wonderful and has my mouth watering. 🤗🥰 So I haven’t done any produce shopping yet, but I do have a can of peaches, as well as a can of cherry pie filling. Can I substitute for the fresh berries? Plmk and thank you another great looking recipe!! 😘😘
i would so like a sample mailed plezz ? just give me some ice cream please too? i just mix a cup each buttermilk snd flour ,half a stick o butter mix and pour over the top .good and soo easy. But ure extra rolling it out and making the real deal nothing better.Have a BLESSED week Chris and Tammy! But i can make dumplings but probably not as pretty and good as ures but we like them alot lol.
My grandma did the pour over kind too! Haven't had it in years. Now that you reminded me, I want to make one. Maybe we'll post a video with it soon. Thank you!
I'm sorry to be the needy kid in class today, I can't find the video on premade biscuit mix. I also can't find self rising flour. Is it 1/2 cup butter to 1 cup flour then would you add 1 tsp of soda or baking powder? Salt/sugar? I plan to make a big container of it.
@@CollardValleyCooks Now that I think about it, I can see now why it wouldn't cook. The ingredients are so wet that the crust would end up a soggy mess. Thanks.
@@lisagialucci2296 my grandmother always made a cobbler in a sheet pan and it had a bottom crust. At least that is what we called it and seemed to taste different
Donna Wells , sorry to hear Chris had a reaction to the shot. I pray he is better today. Saw this looking for your icing that cake. You look nice always, Tammy

Its delicious for real
How are you doing today?
My mom has passed many years ago but I still remember them and can taste how wonderful they were. She was a wonderful cook. As you are as well
I've got my grandmothers old wire pastry knife that has a handle that looks just like that, chipped red paint and all.
My Mother made dumplings with the Blackberries, So delicious.
My grandmother would make blackberry dumplings and we would dip up straight from the pot. It was delicious! Your way is wonderful!
Tammy...I'm sure by now you have heard about Heather and her family at The Kneady Homesteder. If not, watch her latest video.
Lordy yum Tammy!!! Now that my Gallbladder is out & I am almost able to eat normal I will try this!
Mom makes it so you put the fruit on top of the batter so the batter rises and covers the fruit during cooking.
Delish 😊
My Mom never put milk in her cobblers. Looks yummy!
🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
I think she used it mostly when she thickened them with her flour or starch.
This brings back fond memories in my granny's kitchen.
My goodness! Who will care if its a little curdled with the dumplings in their to help thicken it up.. It looks wonderful!
Now I’m wanting cobbler. Love blackberries. You are a fantastic home cook.
I just made mine…I used triple berry mix! I love cobbler!! I also put some vanilla in my dough. It was delicious!! Thank you Tammy love ya
Yum yum , girl this is good eating! Yep , room temp with fresh cows cream ! Y’all be blessed and favored 🙏🏽❤️
I just made some blackberries with dumplings delicious
Tammy just was looking at your Amazon store list and have found more items to buy yet again. Lol 😂 Just can’t stop myself. I tell my husband if Tammy says it good then I must have it. Already have so much of your must haves. Love to look and find new things. We girls love kitchen items. Even us just ok cooks. 😀
Interesting. I agree it would be better at room temp. Just like I like to eat pie after it is fully set, even better cold.
I've been out picking blackberries today for the day and I've got to make a cobbler and get this outta my system lol. It won't be as good as mammas with the homemade biscuit topping but I'll try! Such a nostalgic dish to make 💕
Looks scrumptious, Tammy! I could eat it 'til I turn blue!!! Yummy!
I LOVE my blending (Foley) fork! It is SO much better than a horseshoe shaped pastry blender!!! I git mine through your store. ♥️
My family looks at me funny because I HATE blueberries but I can eat blackberries 24/7. I love every fruit except blueberries!!🤪
OMW we use to go blackberry picking with our mom, I think we ate more of them than what we kept Lol and after we got home my mom would make a cobbler out of them. This cobbler you made looks so yummy
Looks delicious my grandma would put dumplings in her cobbler as well it was so delicious
That looks scrumptious! I agree, about eating it ar room temperature. 😃 👍 Thank you!
Thank you Tammy for this lovely recipe. I can't wait to make this delicious cobbler. My gramma always put dumplings in her's too.
Peach, cherry, apple. any of them. I can't wait.
I use white lilly flour have for years 🙂 its the best 👌
I have video for that just search CVC and sweet potato. I do not do the double crust on the blackberry
Blackberry cobbler is one of my faves. As a kid my sisters and I would go pickin early in the morn and mom would make us a cobbler. We would pour milk over it and gobble it up. ☺💝
Flour will thicken your black berry juice about two table spoons of flour.
We can hear that cobbler a bubbling all the way up here... . Must smell fabulous. Thanx again 4 another Gr8 recipe.
Thanks,
Rachel Pierce
I am the same. I love Cherry pie w filling minus cherries🤣
All you would do is strain the berries out after it boils 10 min.

Thanks so much for your help and quick response! 🥰
I’m going to make this tomorrow!! Thank you 💐💕
Hi Tammy so proud you got sponsored by the best flour!! Congrats on all your hard work. You have the best cooking around and you give so many good tips about cooking. Been trying to start making more videos had some things that prevented me from making any for awhile. Hope you are doing really well. Just wanted to say hi and congrats we love you!-----------------------Tressa Daigle
I wondered where you had been!
I have an old blending fork from my mom from the 50’s. I love it!
This made my mouth water. Simply delicious looking. Thanks Tammy.🌹
Yes they will work
i would so like a sample mailed plezz ? just give me some ice cream please too? i just mix a cup each buttermilk snd flour ,half a stick o butter mix and pour over the top
.good and soo easy.
Thank you!
Wow. Tammy you're making my month water. That cobbler looks so good.
Looks so good! Love the running over. It says that there is goodess inside. ❤️❤️
I'm sorry to be the needy kid in class today, I can't find the video on premade biscuit mix. I also can't find self rising flour. Is it 1/2 cup butter to 1 cup flour then would you add 1 tsp of soda or baking powder? Salt/sugar? I plan to make a big container of it.
ruclips.net/video/aM9LZj86uVU/видео.html this is for the mix you will have to google for how to mkae SR flour
@@CollardValleyCooks Thank you so much! You're the best
My momma always made a bottom crust and a top crust. The bottom crust always tasted like a dumpling
Could you add a bottom “crust” to this instead of the dumplings?
I like that idea. You'd probably have to prebake it though, but I'll bet that would be good.
I would not use a bottom crust. It is hard for it to cook and it is not the same. I tried it with peach once.
@@CollardValleyCooks Now that I think about it, I can see now why it wouldn't cook. The ingredients are so wet that the crust would end up a soggy mess. Thanks.
That’s the difference between pie and cobbler, some fruits just are better for cobbler 💛
@@lisagialucci2296 my grandmother always made a cobbler in a sheet pan and it had a bottom crust. At least that is what we called it and seemed to taste different
Evaporated milk is usually skim milk, so that may be why it curdled
I posted this to my Facebook page 👍❤️😁
Thanks 😊
The acid from the berries is what curdled the milk
Oh yes eat it at room temperature and then later at night on the stove top or out of the fridge OMG... Nothing better
I still say sweet milk and or buttermilk. I think it’s a thing we did in the South.
I love your trivet. I just bought your mixing fork.
Omg! Tammy could Cook a muddy boot and it would taste good!!😂 I need to buy her cook book! Anyone know if she has one?
Look on www.collardvalleycooks.com for info I have 3
My fav way to eat it is when u eat it right out of the fridge.
Love blackberries, looks delicious tammy, would you please make a Hummingbird cake on your show if you have a recipe? I would like that, thanks Tammy
