One of my favorite holiday desserts was and is my grandmother's fresh apple cake. Still have the recipe in her handwriting.
Marieca: Its truly wonderful to have that recipe in your grandmother’s handwriting. I still have a recipe from a friend that was written in her handwriting. We were friends for 40 years, but she passed away. Every time I make her cake and see her handwriting I still feel like I have a small piece of her! It’s very comforting. I’m sure you feel that way, too. ❣️♥️❣️

I grew up the youngest in my family.My mom and dad were grandparents several years before I was born.Mygrandparents all passed away before I was born.My mother would send us birthday cards and tell us about the day we were born.It was so special to read our birth stories in her hand writing .I treasure those cards. This apple skillet cake looks so good.yum

You are one strong woman! I wouldn't be able to lift the cast iron skillet, let alone flip the cake on to a plate. I would have to use a 9x13 glass pan and leave it as it is once it's out of the oven. I would remove each piece with a spatula and flip it over on to each dish or into each bowl before adding the ice cream. You learn to improvise when you are old and arthritic!

Thank you for sharing my grandma made this cake during the depression . She said it was a special occasion because flour and sugar was expensive in Detroit . And people forget the black dust during one of America’s worst droughts grain field were just gone

I have this in the oven now! I halved the recipe because my pan is smaller and it is only me eating it, mush to my fiance's dismay! He is in the States and I am in the Netherlands, for now.

My ex husband is a diabetic .We are still friends he helps me I feed him .I know he would love this but I won't share if I make it unless it's the last tiny piece.I am helping him keep his A1C down so his Dr doesnt fire him.She threatened too last time he went so he came to me for help .I miss alot of goodies because I don't want him tempted unfortunately
