I'm 76 yrs old and grew up with my Mama making banana pudding. It was a frequent dessert to our Sunday dinner table. I watched her cook it over and over again. The thing with my Mama was that she NEVER measured anything. She dumped in the sugar and the flour and pinch of salt poured in the milk not measured and then added the beaten egg yolks of course she cooked it on top of the stove because when I was a little girl there was no microwaves. It always turned out perfect. I can make cooked banana pudding but I have to measure. Anyway this really made me think back to my sweet Mama making banana pudding. We liked it warm too by the way. Thanks Tamny.
Same here my mom never used a recipe I didn’t even know people used recipes her cooking was always good the banana pudding was my favorite she knew what to put in how to make it. It was always good. Just about a year ago my sister taught me how to make it no recipe just make it and it’s good too. Just seems my mamas was better.
Ann Cleary, Exactly, with my Family food traditions, with ANYTHING they made, they measured in sight 👀 n 👅taste, no means of measurments available so they used their authentic talent! Collard, Thanks for sharing your video and your talent. 💕
@@edlusk1003 I agree, I believe that my Mother's banana pudding is better as well. They were no microwaves when I was growing up. I was born in 1958, there wasn't a microwave when I gave birth to my Son back in 1979 at least not one that I could afford to buy. I like the old fashion way however, it looks really pretty. I liked your marine, if you ever cook a chocolate meringue pie, that's a recipe I'm lookin' for. Happy cooking
My Grandma raised me and she never measured anything either. Everyone loved her cooking. I am 70 now and my Grandma is gone but I still remember her cooking and always miss her and her cooking. I try but I just can't cook like she did. This was back when there was no microwave or canned biscuits or anything. She got up early to cook me breakfast from scratch before I went to school. I sure miss her everyday!
Lord this lady is a genius, I have cooked banana pudding in every way possible and mostly failed 🥴 but this is the absolute BEST I've ever tried and perfected! My mom cannot cook like this lady and I'm black, I mean not that race matters but I thought my family members were the best cooks ever until I tried Mrs.Tammy's recipes now they're asking me "Where did you learn to cook like that"??? Lol Thank you so much for this channel and your time to share these amazing recipes
Tammy, I am a 69 year old black woman, from South Carolina, and you cook like my Mama did! Love your recipes. Simple and easy. You don't have to go shopping to cook a good meal. Seasoned with salt, pepper and paprika.
I got tickled reading your comment about 'not that race matters'. Black cooks overall are very good cooks. My mother (white :) ) was a downhome southern cook, and we 3 girls cook just like her. My mother always made banana pudding from scratch, and it was so good. I did try this one as I wasn't sure about the microwave turning out a good banana pudding, but it was indeed super!! CVC cooks just like my mother. I started following her several years ago.
Reminds me of my grandmother; she used to make banana pudding and chess pies all the time. She LOVED chocolate and made chocolate banana pudding and chess pies with choc chips in it. Oh how I miss her and my mother. I have all her recipes and whenever I cook or bake her stuff, it's like she's there with me.
My mom made many banana puddings using graham crackers. She made them with vanilla wafers too. We liked it hot or warm. Love to watch people like you who cook old fashioned items.
Girl! I trust you way too much. I’ve made so many of your recipes over the past 6 months and have enjoyed every bite. Thanks for sharing your great recipes and kitchen skills with us.
OMG, Anyone who has never made a homemade banana pudding before hasn't lived life to the fullest. When I was growing up our mama always made the most amazing banana pudding and lemon icebox pie with mile high meringue topping. I cannot remember mama ever using any short cuts or instant anything. Gosh, those were the good ole days. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes. You're simply the BEST!!
This is genius to put in the microwave vs on stove top especially in the summer because even with air conditioning the house gets hot...Can't wait to try it this way! Thank you ma'am! ❤️
That is the prettiest banana pudding I think I haver ever seen. My husband loves when I cook for him, no matter what it is! Enjoy watching you cook, remind me of all the foods I ate growing up. Thank you.
I have never heard of anyone deseeding a banana but I might just try that the next time I use banana as a topping. I DO love microwave pudding in the batter bowl, a sewing buddy shared her recipe for it a couple of years ago and I never make pudding any other way now.
My mama always made homemade butterscotch pudding and added bananas and vanilla wafers, yummy, yours looks divine tammy, no eggs just flour and cornstarch to thicken
Looks good! My aunt use to make banana pudding from scratch. She boiled hers on top of the stove. Hers was the best pudding I ever ate. She gave me her recipe before she died.
I made this last week and it was fabulous! I was always jealous of cooks that made "old fashioned" banana pudding, but was afraid to try it myself. After watching this video, I used my microwave and it was not only delicious, but fast and pretty much foolproof, 'cause you're not gonna scorch it or overcook it. I also used your suggestion for using powdered sugar instead of granulated sugar for the meringue, and it didn't "weep" and made beautiful peaks. Needless to say, my banana pudding got more compliments than anything else I cooked for Christmas. Thank you, Tammy, for teaching this "old dog" a few new tricks!
Now, THAT is a banana pudding, but we still cook our pudding on the stove top. My wife makes a strawberry dish we courted on. Her girl friend gave her the recipe and she swore it would get any man to the alter. It didn't hurt. LOL
I made it. I am 59 yo never in my life have I made a cooked pudding before other than a boxed cooked...I used Splenda instead of sugar and boy was it delicious. Thank you. Oh and Believe it or not I was raised country cooking and eating too.
I have made this banana pudding so many times and I tell you it is good every time!!!!!! We eat it 15 minutes after it comes out of the oven! So warm and delicious! A sweet taste of Heaven! OMG I have even deseeded the bananas. And take great pride in telling others how to do it. Im like your grandmother, lol. I cannot stand it when the banana turns dark! Its like something alive in the pudding lol. We had pudding left the next day and it was still delicious! I have made it for 2 ladies in my church and they were almost singing lol! I also take joy in sharing how to make the pudding in the MICROWAVE OVEN!!! as others tell me how they cook it on the stove. I tell them about Collard Valley Cooks! lol. Thanks for sharing and making a difference in our lives! I will probably buy the cookbooks later but It helps me to be able to see the video. I don't think I could cook these delicious foods otherwise.
Thank-you so Much!! I've never been able to make a homemade pudding. It would NEVER get thick for me. Your method worked perfectly!!!!! You are awesome!!
I adore this recipe. I made this for the volunteers I work with, and it only lasted about 15 minutes. I served it warm. Yummy!! Wonderful recipe and so easy and delicious!! Thank you!! Have a very blessed day!!
I can beat you ladies by a few years and I’ve never heard of de seeding bananas either! My mom did, however, use a spoon to scrape bananas when there was a baby in the house to feed.
Thanks for the tasty recipe in special with the seed out i like That thanks again i love top too i have to fo mines like that when i make mines but if u eat other u have to settle with it L.o.l
Hi Tammy, I made two of these today. One for my mother-in-law's 95th birthday and one for my family. They were delicious! Thanks for the microwave tip. Beats the heck out of standing, cooking, and stirring but tastes just like you did!
What memories you have brought back. My mom did the " ida" method also but i had forgotten. I'm definitely going to make this recipe. I had lost this recipe through the years.
Thank you for this Real Banana pudding recipe and not with the jello pudding. I have heard people say that it's just as good made with Jello pudding but I 100% disagree with them. I can tell the difference and yours is the real deal!!!
I just made this banana pudding. it is sooo good! it tastes just like I stood over the stove and cooked it the "old-fashion" way. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe.
My gosh! I cannot wait to try this in the microwave! I've slaved too long over the stovetop, and sometimes it still doesn't turn out right. My family adores homemade banana pudding, and this is going to make my life so much easier-- thank you so much! I love your cooking!
I let the pudding chill completely before adding the vanilla wafers. It prevents the cookies from becoming soggy as quickly. I’ll try seeding the bananas next time.
I remember my mother in law making banana pudding this way! It was soooo good. I remember being so surprised at the big difference between boxed pudding and homemade!
Finally! Thank you Tammy for real Southern Banana Pudding! None of that Cool Whip, Eagle Brand condensed milk, Philadelphia cream cheese, different crackers, and Jello instant pudding combinations that I have seen on youtube!! Never seen such! And these are Southerners! Everybody is changing the traditional banana pudding of old. Except you!! 💛🍌 (We didn't put meringue on ours, but our neighbor did. Just crushed vanilla waffers on top. And cooked on the stove.) Instant box pudding is disgusting. No wonder everyone else has to doctor up theirs with extra ingredients!
Hi Tammy! This banana pudding is a huge fav with my crew! It's easy to make in the microwave & the pudding is a million times better than using a boxed pudding mix! I have de-seeded the bananas when serving the next day and also have used ascorbic acid on the bananas to keep them from turning dark. But, this banana pudding never lasts long enough at our house to be too concerned about the bananas turning! By the way, that large spoon is what my crew would call a good sized serving spoon! I have to make a triple recipe if we expect to have any leftovers! Thanks for the demo of this recipe & thank you, as always, for another video! ☺
Now that banana pudding is a work of art! The deseeding tip is priceless! Thank you for sharing so many amazing dishes! God bless you beautiful sister!
Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipes. Also, all of the tips and hints you give are great. You give details that help so much. You are such a good teacher. Thank you. ❤️
I loved the way my Mother made banana pudding From Scratch. That looks delicious Tammy! I will not eat boxed pudding. I’ll eat boxed cake but banana pudding, no box for me...that hurts my feelings. Thanks for the shortcut with the microwave. I may try it Tammy but I’m kind of scared😃. I miss my Mother soooo much too Tammy. God Bless You.
Oh my word... Tammy I did trust you (never microwaved or used flour before) & it was the yummiest picture perfect banana pudding I've EVER made and that made one of my hubby's best BD desserts EVER! TY for the grrreat tip on de-seeding bananas.
Thank you for making this video on how to make banana pudding my mother made it just the way that you did last Summer rain thank you for taking the time to do this it was lovely watching you I live in Alabama now but I grew up in Carroll County
Never have I heard of “depitting” a banana but, it does make a lot of sense. Bananas in the pudding do blackin in the center if saved for the next day. Great tip!
My Mom had a really deep baking bowl that she used exclusively for her bread pudding and banana pudding. The appearance of yours matches almost exactly. But, what really guarantees that I'm going to be making it soon it is the "pudding-in-the-microwave" trick! Thanks for bringing back the memories, as usual! :D
Thank you for that tip on de-seeding the bananas. I love banana pudding and that next day thing with the dark bananas had always been a turn off for me. I’m definitely going to try this tip.
Miss Tammy I have been watching your channel and making your recipes for a long time. I was looking for another banana pudding recipe when I stumbled upon this one. Lord o' mercy you done taught me something today Ma'am. Never would I have thought to make my "puddin" in the microwave. Chris is one lucky man I tell ya! May the Lord continue to watch over you and your family!
That looks so delicious!!! I've never made a banana pudding like that before we always used a box of instant pudding, but next time I may try to make it like that
Oh my what a delicious recipe .. I have a sweet tooth just like my dad and I would enjoy making sweets to share with him. Now that he is in heaven I tend to make smaller size recipes so I’m going to half this recipe and see how it turns out because I’m capable of eating the whole thing if I make the original size recipe lol
This looks heavenly Yum my friend told me he'd talk me through the recipe, but I think I'm gonna try this one. I never seen anyone make pudding other than my mama you took me back to my childhood...🤗🤗🤗
Oh boy, that looks so good...I’ve definitely got to try your microwave recipe for that custard...I usually make it on top of stove...love watching you cook...
I bought your first cook book, which arrived yesterday. I made this today and it was scrumptious! I’m looking forward to tomorrow when I can enjoy more! Thank you so much!
Hello I love watching your videos because you always bring back memories especially when you cook this one right here too Mama used to make it just like you but you put a little switch in it and I like that may I be used in the microwave thank you and I keep on posting your videos I love it God bless
Your mama knew the best, on Nanner Pudding making ..I still make it the same as you...Same as my mother...Im 70 and an Old Dude that cooks ..😂... Love your channel
This looks delicious 👏🏻 My Big Mama used to cook Banana Pudding on the stove top and my Daddy and Ma loved it. My Hubby loves my cold banana pudding but I’m gonna have to make this for him. Why? Because you are a wonderful cook and everything you make is heavenly. Thank you for sharing 👍🏻👍🏻 Stay safe healthy and happy ✝️❤️
Tammy...I love your voice...I would listen to you for hours...thank you for this trip down memory lane...you cooked this just like my " momma did" excluding the microwave & reseeding...lol but I'm gonna try both!! Love ya!!
I just made your strawberry pie you posted a day or two ago. Can’t wait to dig in to that! But I’m telling myself it’s for supper tomorrow. The filling reminds me of a dip for fruit that I used to make when my daughter played club volleyball and we often had all day tournaments. She thought that dip was a must have for the team.
It looks so delicious. I have never eaten it hot, but I definitely will try it. I have tried two of your techniques for sweet potatoes and greens and loved it. Thanks.
Girl, this is the 3rd or 4th video I've seen you do homemade pudding in the microwave and I'm convinced. Now I will do homemade pudding again b/c that instant stuff can't touch pudding from scratch. Just hated standing over the stove and stirring. 🙂 Deseeding a 🍌 is new to me. Way easier than putting the slices in lemon water to prevent browning. Thanks for that tip, too. Lastly, I learned how to do meringue that way from my mom. We both love you and your videos. I told her I would be at your house everyday if I were in your neighborhood, no matter what you were cooking. lol. Thanks for being southern you and brightening up my day. 😚
I have used the very crisp Coconut Macaroon Cookies in banana pudding. I put a layer of cookies on the bottom and stand some around the perimeter of the oven-proof dish, too. Then I slice bananas and cover the cookies well. Add another layer of the cookies and then more bananas and end with a layer of cookies. I add filling after each layer and end with a layer of putting/filling that I cook on the stove. I don't measure anything. Finally, I cover the top with meringue and add the cute peaks before putting on a cookie sheet and placing it in the oven at 325* for about 20 minutes watching closely for the last few minutes. I have also added well-drained pineapple tidbits with the sliced bananas. The bananas, pineapple, and coconut macaroons work really well together. You can also top the meringue with shredded coconut before browning. I love to experiment and have even made a fruit cocktail pudding the same way. Never used the microwave for the filling as mine thickens during the baking process and I don't really like it super thick. Give these a try, Tammy, and see if you and Chris like my versions.
Wow that looks so delish. I don’t know if your vanilla wafers get soft , they look crunchy. No matter, you are a great cook. And I can understand deseeding the bananas. I don’t like the brown either, but never thought about that. Wish you had a picture of your Mom to show.

Lord o' mercy you done taught me something today Ma'am. Never would I have thought to make my "puddin" in the microwave. Chris is one lucky man I tell ya! That is awesome!
Looks SOOO good! I have made thousands of these through the years.
Yumm!!!
That meringue looks perfect !!!! I wanna learn to do that !!! Great job !!!!
OMG banana pudding is my boyfriend's favorite! He got me a Kitchen Aid mixer so can't wait to make this for him!
This looks heavenly Yum my friend told me he'd talk me through the recipe, but I think I'm gonna try this one. I never seen anyone make pudding other than my mama you took me back to my childhood...🤗🤗🤗

Tammy...I love your voice...I would listen to you for hours...thank you for this trip down memory lane...you cooked this just like my
" momma did" excluding the microwave & reseeding...lol but I'm gonna try both!! Love ya!!
I’m learning so much. I love banana pudding but I won’t eat it the next day. Thank you for teaching me to de seed the bananas😃
Just wow. I will make when company comes. Thank you!!!!
Hope you enjoy
Omg! Your recipe is absolutely, amazing!!!
It looks so delicious. I have never eaten it hot, but I definitely will try it. I have tried two of your techniques for sweet potatoes and greens and loved it. Thanks.
Hope you enjoy
Looks good everything I make that you suggest has been really really good thank you and Chris👍
