    I have the smaller size (the R-41PM) and they rock! Vinyl, bluetooth, CDs, aux....anything I plug into it shines. They are crisp. They don't give me the warmth I associate with vintage gear, but that doesn't matter. They are phenominal. Highly recommended.
    Nothing wrong with the Edifers. Those sound really good for their price range. If you listen to vinyl and want a minimalist setup, I recommend the Klipsch speakers as they have a built in phono preamp. Yes you spend quite a bit upfront but it's worth it.

    Apart from the sound quality and the connection options, what I love about these speakers is that they automatically sense if a paired device is trying to connect and automatically switch themselves into bluetooth mode. Even if it's currently on phono (connected to my turntable) or aux (connected to my TV), it's so convenient to be able to connect from my phone or laptop and play music right away without have to change modes on the remote. Lots of bang for the buck.
    For small to medium sized rooms, I think a sub wouldn't be necessary unless you're really looking for some thump when watching movies or listening to hip-hop, club/dance, techno. I hooked mine up to a Klipsch RW10 sub and almost all the time I couldn't tell wether the low end is coming from the speakers or the sub. Crossover is seamless, as it should be.

    I know this is probably mentioned before, but this speaker DOES have a built in phono pre-amp, so you don't need the ART box mentioned in the review. Just connect the turntable to the RCA wires and the ground wire to the binding post on the speaker and flip the line / phono switch to phono.

    I had previously purchased powered Edifier speakers for my AT-LP60X turntable (basic beginner setup). They do sound great but I am now considering upgrading to a Cambridge amplifier. Should I switch to passive speakers instead?

    • @nloop
      @nloop  11 месяцев назад +1

      It comes down to personal preference. I like passive speakers since I get flexibility in the setup, and different amplifiers modify the sound signature. However, active speakers these days are so good, and much easier to setup & use, that passives aren't always necessary.

      I’m hard pressed to find any, to be honest. They are huge, if you’re not ready for the size and you have a small setup, then they may not be a good fit. You also can’t tune the sound signature if that’s important to you.
      But otherwise they are impressive in every other way. If you buy them from somewhere with a good return policy, such as Amazon or Best Buy, and you don’t like them you could always just sent them back!

    Hey man bought these after seeing your review! I have a AT-LPW40WN turntable. When I play music through bluetooth on high volume the speakers sound amazing and the bass is just right, but once i play through the phono line for vinyl any time i start to remotely play the music loud the speakers bass is way to much and it starts distorting the sound like crazy. I know i cant adjust the bass or anything was just wondering if you have this problem too or any suggestions thanks

    • @nloop
      @nloop  Год назад

      I'm glad the speakers sound great for you. Hmmmm, I don't have that turntable so I can only pose a guess on what the issue is. Make sure that on the back of the TT, the switch is set to LINE and not PHONO. If it's set to phono, it is looking for a phono box to output sound to. If you set it to line, it means direct output (aka, it uses the internal phono amp).
      If that's not working, my suggestion would be to pick up a cheap phono box for your turntable. So that way it goes Turntable ->Phono Box -> Speakers. That could eliminate some issues with gain.
      Hopefully this helps, again it's hard to troubleshoot without having used that product before but maybe it puts you in the right direction!

    So i just bought a fluance rt85 with a zen phono preamp and i just got these r51pms, my question is can i use the zen with these speakers? Ive been reading that these speakers have a built in phono pre amp. Did i waste money on the zen preamp?

    • @nloop
      @nloop  Год назад

      You did not waste money!
      The speakers need their own amp, just as the turntable needs it's own amp. Klipsch just happens to have it's own built in.
      So you would do Fluance -> Phono Preamp ->Klipsch directly.
      Edit: after further research, the klipsch does in fact have a phono amp inside as well. So an external amp isn’t necessary. That said, the zen pre amp may be of higher quality than the built in on the Klipsch. It’s the same reason I have an external pre amp as well, even though I don’t technically need it. It’s personal preference ultimately and this gives you options.

    • @nloop
      @nloop  10 месяцев назад

      @@JakeNicholson-nn6vo It turns out that this speaker has a phono pre amp built in (as well as a standard amp for its own audio generation)
      Long story short, you can disable the phono mode on the Klipsch and switch it to line, if you have a pre amp on the turntable or a pre amp externally. You don’t need both enabled or you will encounter distortion.
