The new R-41PM and R-51PM share a similar design philosophy to the models they are replacing, the R-14 and R-15, however they did improve their overall performance.
Both of these models are designed to support virtually every type of audio source. With the R-51PM and R-41PM, you will not need a separate amp or receiver. With their built-in amplifier and tons of inputs, simply connect your sources or pair your phone via bluetooth and you’ll be listening to music in no time!
The R-51PM is a larger sized bookshelf speaker, standing at 13.3” tall, 7” wide and 9” deep and can be used on your desktop, on a bookshelf, or even on speaker stands as part of a great two channel audio system. For a smaller room or desktop, the R-41PM is a great choice as it is under 10” tall, less than 6” wide, and only 7 ½” deep.
Klipsch improved the tweeter on the new models, going from a ¾” dome to a 1” dome, allowing them to lower the crossover, while gaining some efficiency and ultimate power output. They couple the 1” dome with their famous Tractrix Horn which gives it great dispersion while also increasing efficiency. The bass driver of the R-51PM is identical to the one in the R-15, which is their copper spun 5 ¼” woofer. The R-41PM also uses the new 1” dome tweeter with the Tractrix horn and their 4” copper spun woofer. With the improvements, both speakers can certainly rock!
Both the R-51PM and R-41PM have a fairly large rear port so you will want to place them a little bit off the back wall for the best performance. The back panel of the right speaker is where all of your connections take place and there is no shortage of ports. Included is a high quality, solid 5 way binding post to attach your speaker wire (a 10’ piece comes with the speaker) to the other speaker.
In terms of build quality, everything is just what we have come to expect from a powered speaker in this category. The fit and finish is quite nice, and the connectors are fairly high quality. Each speaker also has a magnetic removable black grill, giving you the option to go naked or to cover up the drivers for a more discreet look. The big Tractrix horn and woofer with their copper colored screws give these speakers the unique Klipsch look.
The R-41PM and R-51PM have every input you should need to play your music including Bluetooth. On the rear panel you will find a set of RCA plugs, a stereo mini plug input, and a subwoofer output. With the flip of a switch you can engage the phono stage allowing you to play a turntable without the need of a phono preamp.
On the digital input side, you’ll find a toslink, great for a TV, and a USB-B input perfect for your computer.
The speakers also come with a remote control that allows for accessing the various inputs, track and master volume control when in Bluetooth mode, and an added feature for bass control. Which we love since with most powered speakers this is done on the actual sub itself.
Another new feature is what Klipsch calls Dynamic Bass EQ which boosts the bass at low levels, then backs off when you turn up the volume. This will add a fullness to the sound at low listening levels and is especially handy if you do not have a subwoofer.
Klipsch speakers are known for packing in a lot of punch with great dynamics and the new R series follows this path. We’ve actually never had a pair of powered speakers that could produce as much SPL as these guys do, which is very impressive for the money and their very small size.
Their bass impact, size of the soundstage, and pure dynamics are incredible. Now, these speakers do have an “in your face” sound and can be a bit much for the listener who prefers a warmer sound. A tonal control would have been a nice feature for that type of listening preference.
If you’re throwing a party or need to fill up a large room, these, especially the R51 will do the job. The room we tested them in was about 21’ by 24’ with a 10’ ceiling, which is pretty big. When we really pushed them, they never sounded distorted as they covered the entire area with big, full sound. The Tractrix Horn tweeter has great horizontal and vertical dispersion as there is very little high frequency roll off, even totally off to the side or above and below them.
Overall, these speakers can really rock! If you are looking for a smaller pair of powered speakers that have the ability to fill a large room and come with plenty of input options, we believe we’ve found your next set of speakers. Наука
I had the pleasure to know Paul Klipsch back in the early 70s as we both attended the same Episcopal Church in Hope, AR. He was a genius and quite the character, quick to prank people he liked.
Just set the 51 series up in my music room. Attached my Sony 100 watt sub woofer and man does it sound great. I'm very happy with my Klipsch speakers and would recommend them to anyone wanting quality sound in a small package. Working on getting my Technics direct drive turntable set up so I can enjoy my album collection.
Thank you for sharing!
The R41pm is louder on bluetooth but quieter when I try to play records. Can anybody help. My turntable has a preamp and i have both set to line. It’s just not as loud as the bluetooth setting on the speaker.
Just picked these up on sale and paired them to my audio technica turntable. Super simple and sounds AMAZING
What kind of wires or cables did you use
@@rickycortez8715 3.5mm to 2-male RCA. Everything I needed came in the box
That’s what I’m about to do! They’re on sale at my local Costco and am planning on hooking them up to my AudioTechnica!
Also bought these speakers yesterday.
What audio technica turntable do you recommend? I think the 120x is enough for me.
@@MenacingThreat how much were they going for?
For me these are perfect. Just need them for playing music from my phone and PC. Thanks for the video!
Did you buy them already?
you all prolly dont give a damn but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost my login password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me
@Emmett Francis Instablaster ;)
@Jaden Roy thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Jaden Roy It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass :D
Hello, Any issues with these Klipsch R-51PM and R-120SW subwoofer with windows 10? I would like to buy these to hook up with home computer system? Thanks
They'll work with anything that puts out an audio signal.
What av receiver would be enough/ok for a 5.1 system with 2 pairs of them?
These are powered speakers. You don't need a reciever.
So can I still use these for my reciever? I want to to connect them to my reciever and use them as my rear speakers. Will I need any extra speaker wires to do so or is the contents of the speaker package all that I'll need?
You cannot use these speakers for your current receiver because these speakers already have a receiver built in. The P in PM stands for powered. Luckily for you they do offer the exact same speaker in a passive version, which would be ideal for your receiver. Search for the Klipsch R-41 M.
@@edwarde5452 I already found that out a few months ago when I went back online and looked at the other Klipsch speakers bestbuy had and traded for the R-41 and they work perfect. I really do appreciate the reply and it was the correct answer too so thanks. Hopefully this will help someone else out that makes the same mistake I did.
While they look nice where you placed them with a turntable in between it should be noted that you should NEVER set up your system like this. Acoustic feedback / vibration from the speakers will adversely affect the turntable's sound. You MUST move the speakers further away, preferably not on the same shelf as the turntable. Even better, use a turntable with a spring suspension such as Thorens or Linn.
Good advice. I've always suspended my turntable from the ceiling in a corner where it can't be bumped.
Sonic feedback sux and no matter what you do, at high volumes, it can still affect your sound.
When adding a sub-woofer, do I add the self power one or just an ordinary one?...any suggestion would appreciated.
Add a powered sub-woofer. Most are self powered.
With those speakers id get the Klipsch 12SW from costco. That is the best priced klipsch sub I have found. 200 for a 12” sub and it sounds amazing.
Thinking about getting the R-41PM to use as a second pair of Dolby Atmos (front height) speakers. I have a Marantz SR5015 and want to connect these to the surround (height) pre-outs to match a pair of R-41SA speakers that I connect as well. Anything that I should be concerned with
That in theory should work. Just don't pair them with anything and hide the remote control so the source or volume does not get changed. Thanks for watching.
Thanks!
leaning towards these over the audioengine 5+. This plus a sub should be perfect. I got the Promedia 2.1 and honest, despite all the rave reviews, I'm not to impressed. Looking for some better quality and I think this is it. In the ealry 2000s i was all Logitech. These however look and sound much better.
Hi I need some help, I have a home theater 5.1.2 and I have 3 options to front speakers. The R-41M, R-51M and the Jamo S426 towers. To movies what do you recommended ? I have the R-100SW Klipsch Subwoofeer.
In most cases the R-51PM would be a terrific acoustic solution that is also flexible in terms of being on stands or on a cabinet. Anyone know of good eq software for my windows pc
I use my realtek software set it to the "powerful" EQ settings and combine it with loudness equalization and my R-15pms sound GREAT!
could you connect these speakers to a receiver? if so, how?

Yes you need a phono preamp if your turntable doesn't have one
No, these have a built in preamp

Asking around for someone with actual experience with this product: Do you have the white noise hiss when no sound is coming from these speakers?
I have the R-41pm set. They are quiet when idle. They make FANTASTIC movie speakers. The highs are so crisp, it makes dialogue easier to hear. But they are a bit too harsh on the highs and lack the upper mid range. It's like it's all highs and low-mids. I find listening to music abrasive, but still WAY better than any TV or Soundbar that I've personally heard.
Great review!
Just a question. Could R-41PM be suitable for a 30 square meters/320 square feet room? Or should I buy R-51PM (quite expensive in Spain)?
Thanks a lot!
Having room the same size. Tried R-41pm with a sub and R-51pm without sub. Both were good but R-41pm with a sub is a much better experience...
Can anyone tell me the actual difference between these and the new Fives by Klipsch
One big difference, ARC. ruclips.net/video/7_GSnL4klQY/видео.html
@@farlesbarkley1022 so if I didn't need ARC, like my TV didn't have ARC yet. R51M will be good or probably better since cone of R51M is bigger than The Fives?
@@dennismanlangit8145 If you're hooking the speakers up to an external amplifier (required for R51M) why would you spend the money for powered speakers like fives?
I asked on Amazon if you need any receiver or amplifier in order to use the Klipsch R-100SW subwoofer with the Klipsch R-51PM. The answer was this: "The sub has to be connected to a receiver or amp in order to hear it! The r-51pm are bookshelf speakers which also need to be connected to a receiver or amp! Without it, you will hear, NOTHING!!!"
I asked Klipsch, they said I don't need a receiver for this. Can you please advise which is the correct answer ? Thank you.
Collin- That is so funny, thanks for sharing. The R51PM is a powered, self contained speaker. It does not need a stereo receiver or amp. It has a subwoofer out on the rear you would wire the sub directly up to. Thanks for watching!
There’s 2 different versions. R-51M (passive) and R-51PM (active).
@@AudioAdvice Yes you must be aware that there is a 51-PM and a 51-M. I nearly stepped into that trap also when I was browsing in the internet and dicovered a very good offer for a 51-xx but it turned out the version without amplifier 51-M and not the 51-PM (seems P stands for "powered")
So a question? I have the R51pm, and want to buy a turntable, so is it better to pair it with a pre amp turntable, bluetooth turntable, or just a turntable without the extras? Thanks in advance, I enjoyed the video as well.
The R51 has a built in phono preamp, its ok, but not a world beater, however, plenty good to get started. Your best bet would be to get a turntable with a built in phono preamp you can later turn off and replace with a separate phono preamp should you decide to get deeper into vinyl This is a good one with those features www.audioadvice.com/turntables/t1-turntable Thanks for watching
So at that price point ($400) is there a better option that the R51?
Thanks in advance and thanks for your response!!
@@darincoleman7072 Do you mean the turntable? We thought you said you already had the R51?
Lol well it’s in my cart, does that count? No I’m have been researching powered speakers with the receiver built in, and like this R51 so far, but if you have a better one at that price point, I’d be willing to change my cart lol sorry to mislead you, I had good intentions lol

Can you sync the pair with the Klipsch R-120SW subwoofer?
Just about any powered subwoofer can be connected using the sub out jack on the back of the speaker.
@@martybrazill7935 l cant get sub to sync with my 41pm not sure why I'm using a single line Spider c-series cable

can i connect my phone to the RCA using split rca cable?
Yes, if your phone has a mini plug stereo out, you just need an adapter like you refer to. Thanks for watching
Will there be a sound delay by Bluetooth, if hooked up to tv?
I haven’t had any delay yet but I recommend plugging Optical or RCA wire for better sound but thats just my opinion
I don’t wanna sound dumb but is their volume control on the speakers?
Yes. Behind the right speaker back panel, there is a master volume knob. Also it comes with a remote controller
Is it possible to add the R-41M speakers to the R-51PM?
Hey David, you can't connect them together but if you are interested in multi-channel listening, we recommend a receiver and passive speakers.
But can you add a soundbar and subwoofer?
how do you set up the speakers Klipsch r 51 pm!????
Kanto YU6 or Klipsch R-41PM for Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Pro?
We would suggest you get something better speaker wise. That is an outstanding turntable that should be paired with a separate amp and speakers.
cant get these to connect to my macbook and google like 20 minutes and consulting theire website did not produce with me a manual nor did I find any hint on how to do it. phone connects.but does not even show on the mbp

soy de Peru, mi pregunta es si recibe corriente de 220v
I’m thinking of getting these but I got a small room would these be to much ?
You will just need to play around with how close they are to the walls. The 41 is probably best for a small room
@@AudioAdvice if I had a turntable with an external pre amp could I connect it to theses powered speakers

2:52 As a Dutchman I was surprised to see a Dutch (Netherlands) adress on the speakers.
Only for the taxes they've established an "office" (read postadress without further purpose) there
Get the fives instead (when they are on sale which they will eventually always be)
We would agree with that. Thanks for watching
51 s with my Pioneer 518 perfect for bonus room
Thanks for sharing, glad you like them
I watched the whole video hoping to actually hear them making some sound. Great review of the marketing brochure, but I’d have loved to hear them in action.
Ummm, you wouldn't be listening to them - you would be listening to the sound from your computer speakers....
What's up with this bronze accent... whatever happened to black or dark gray??
Saddly these speakers do not even come close to comparison to my promedia 2.1 THX speakers that I still have from the late '90s. Lol For real those speakers from the '90s blow the 41PM straight out of the water with no remorse.
Thanks for sharing!
At 0:16 when he's looking off in the distance, it looks weird, in that it's totally obvious he's reading a script. Probably better to keep him looking directly at the camera or cut to a sweep/scene/source with voiceover, then back to him looking at the camera.
I think that's just another camera angle while he keeps talking to the camera in front of him🤷🏼♂️
To bad thy use dac max is 16bit 44khz and stil do in R-40PM and R-50PM
Good points. Thanks for sharing.
This sps can really rock, but u wont let them...
this is really just an advertisement rather than an actual review smh
Not impressed with inaccessible mode input controls at the rear. Keeps self-switching into analog as well. Sound only just better than okay. No way audiophile. My remote arrived either dead or temperamental, but would not eventually switch from analog. Oh well..
Weird. My pair of R-41pms are awesome. You may want to see if there is a firmware updated. If I remember, there is a usb-a port in the back that you can use to connect to a PC to update firmware.
...and do not put your speakers on the same surface as your turntable, Christ AA you should know better.
Where's the thunderbolt 4 port? Jk

speakers that dont sound....only senseless conversation
I wonder why the Klipsch R-51pm is so much less expensive than the R-41PM.
It’s not
In 1946 he just made a speaker as average...the acoustic suspension became the fad because amplifiers got better and Klipsh never got the memo,Terrible advice. This video is NOT helpful...enjoy being monetized.
A pair of powered speakers with no XLR input that cost more than $50?
These currently cost $300 to $400 a pair.
At that price, it's pretty pathetic to not have XLR inputs. This is 2018, not 1968.
i dont need an xlr
I can buy it for 217 euro/pair. Or 245,10 dollars.. Due to a mix up in the store I can buy these at some lower price. This vid convinced me they are better than the 15 I originally wanted to buy.
@@Holiday_Ringo
You should want balanced inputs.
They aren't noisy like unbalanced inputs.
Balanced may sound better but the electronics are much more expensive and the vast majority of home users don't need them.
If I'm not mistaken, more advanced users could buy the passive version with a balanced amp.

Can I connect these 2 speakers together to my tv throught aux?
yes
100%. That's how I have it. And when I want to listen to music, I just hit the bluetooth button on the controller, and it switches. I know it's small, but lots of speakers will default to the aux if it is plugged in, and won't let you have access to bluetooth.
