      Good, clear review stating pros and possible cons. Especially like the clarification that not everyone will have the same room dimensions. Comparing open floor plans, apartments, houses or even basement areas all will be totally different. And the point about the importance of what you put the speakers on mattering alot, something that doesn't get touched on that much, very important point you all brought out. Thanks. Me and the wife were planning on the Fives, but now that we are moving from our apartment to a much larger Condo we plan to go with the Seven's. Sweet Spot all the way.

      I guess i should have watch the complete video here before asking my question. So i take it you have to set the TV to stereo and not DD for movies. I do 50/50 so it's a hard decision on what to do. I have one more soundbar to test which is the NEW Polk Magnifi Max AX SR sound bar set up. Just got down with the new JBL bar 1000 with terrible results.

    Just got a pair of The Nines. They’re pretty fantastic. Without any adjustments in the app and in my room I think I hear the “cabinet resonance” they are referring to. To my ears it’s more of a congestion in the low mids.
    I quickly resolved it and even think I’ve found the secret sauce for amazing separation and depth.
    I actually turned ON the Dynamic Bass EQ, then I set the room config to “corner” which drops the low end 6db. And then did very slight EQ adjustments to taste.
    Added lots of frequency separation and depth. Almost like a high pass filter in a way.

    I have owned the fives for a month and was so blown away by them that i bought the nines. My intent with them was to build small stands for them and mimic a smaller version of the heresy iv (in appearance). I have listened to them for about a week now and haven't noticed what you are hearing with them but i will admit this video has made me want to tune in a lot more to see if i notice these things. I enjoy your reviews and look forward to more.

    Andrew and Kristi, thank you so much for this review. I purchased the Nines when they came out and experienced the 'chestiness' you described, despite playing with the speaker placement, and EQ. I wasn't experiencing the same level of excitement many other reviewers were having with the Nines. I even paired with a sub, which slightly improved things (like you said). But it just wasn't right. After your review I returned the Nines for the Sevens and it has been almost a day and night difference. I love them. Cheers to you both!

  • @JukeboxAlley
    @JukeboxAlley Год назад +11

    Nines all day, NO SUB needed, ordered them factory direct, no complaints, they can be the "endgame" speaker. I haven't heard another powered bookshelf that's even close. The low end is insane for their size and can dig lower than most woofers twice their size, if you don't want the low end, dial it back on the eq, or take boost off, that's what it's there for, but the boost and eq is perfect for listening at 30-50 db because they sound full at any volume level, they don't have to be cranked to throw low end, even in a larger room. If you want to spend extra dough, go ahead and buy the sub, but you most likely won't need one with the nine depending on the room. Hes just trying to help push Klipsch subs (because it makes Klipsch happy) to sale more because nobody needs the subs really at this point when the bookies dig plenty low as they are, unless a very very big room and want to get in the 15-20hz region for movies.

      100% agree. while its not super loud these can play 23hz-30hz clean without distortion. If anyone can find me another active speaker that can do that ill be impressed. My phantom 2 can play down to 22hz however its not clean below 30hz and its only in specific locations in my room.

    Sooo, I pulled the trigger on the Sevens, they arrived two days ago all the way down under. You are right, the clarity is superb. I am hearing detail I never heard with the smaller Audioengine 5+ (with 8” sub). The “immersion” in the sound stage is wonderful and I reaction you would have to go thousands of dollars higher in a separate system to make noticeable gains on the sevens. You are also correct in that all the way up to full volume they don’t distort at all, something the 5+ s would do depending on the recording. Whilst I thought full power would be louder than it is, and despite being quite loud, being realistic even sitting in front of them isn’t fatiguing to the ears (or head!). I hear them very adequately in other parts of the house, way more so that the 5+ s. But of course if you are listening the the sound quality, you are sitting in front of them anyway. I’ll probably upgrade the 8” Audioengine sub for a 10” reference from Klipsch but the bass is really, really good, I’d prefer to sell off the Audioengine as a complete package to mostly fund a Klipsch sub. Unless you think there is a better, similarly priced sub to match the sevens. Thanks for your review, I am glad I took your advice.

    I have The Nines in a 16x14 living room and they sound fantastic, they do hit pretty hard but since I don't have The Sevens I am not hearing the differences but I also don't hear that resonance or the impacting on voices you both state in this review. I also am not using dynamic bass, my room is mostly empty as we move back in so we'll have to see how they sound next weekend when we have more furniture and drapes in the windows. All I know is right now, they sound incredible, I have the Klipsch stands coming as well which should help.

      You need to choose the ,,good,, and well engineered actives out there (Neumann, Genelec, ATC, ME Geithain etc) and not this Klipsch - Passives are not in general better or have more performance, most people just didnt know Actives and think a big Amplifier & Gear Rack sound better than inbuild Amplifiers. Good Actives are not like this Klipsch where they bought 0815 China Amplifier and put it in a Box. People like to stick to the known stuff, i understand that, but specially a Genelec or Neumann Setup is such an powerful product with their room correction. Cant compare a Klipsch to that

    I have had the Fives since they came out and adore them. I was not a fan of Klipsch in the past (never owned any), but their sound and convenience has really won me over and made me a huge fan. The Fives are a smart buy right now since they are only about $500, which is a great value for what you get. But I had a feeling the Sevens would be worth the upgrade and you seem to have confirmed that. Just a lot more of a good thing that my room could benefit from and I know I would appreciate. I think Klipsch engineers have hit a home run with this line. I already was thinking that the Nines are just too big for my basement man cave. (Their massive height won't fit under my cabinets.) I think they need a big space. The fact that you concluded that the Sevens have a more balanced sound just adds to my conclusion. Thanks Andrew 😃. I had 100% planned to buy the “THE NINES” and I’m so glad I fought myself and decided to be patient and wait for your review! And I’ve said it before and I’m sure I’ll say it again in the future… I truly don’t understand how your channel doesn’t have AT LEAST a million (if not more) subscribers! I am a very critical person and I’m legit OCD and I can’t make it thru most people’s videos for more than a few minutes because they either just get on my nerves or the room is a mess they are filming in or the video itself is chopped up and doesn’t flow etc.. And many times they just repeat what they’ve read or heard from other reviewers or they are paid by the brand and give a kiss a$$ untruthful review! You are the absolute polar opposite of any of that and I genuinely enjoy your videos and watch them even when it’s a product I’m not interested in because I want to support you guys and just enjoy your delivery so much in all capacities! And the fact that your wonderful intelligent wife Kristi enjoys your hobby with you and has such incredible feedback/opinions also is just the icing on the already decadent cake! I'm so glad i saw this, as I'm going to audition the Nines next week, and hadn't even thought to compare them to the 7's as I really do belomng to the Big is Better old school of audio - however i will truly compare the 2 and hopefully update here with my opinions. I mostly listen to classical and jazz music so its mostly acoustic instruments that interest me. I've never heard a Klipsch speaker before, but what interests me to audition them is, as a front row audience concert attender from the reviews I've read it sounds like Klipsch might be able to reproduce that front row dynamic better, where you can almost feel the vibes of the music - so i'm hoping that the very dynamic transient response might recreate the feel of live music in a concert hall. Previously I had thought that Magnepan or an electrostatic speaker might be best for classical - but i just have a feeling if you want a concert hall feel in your listening room you need a dynamically exciting speaker rather than a refined one - im reall excited to find out!

    Connecting a WiFi streamer on one of the digital input it would be interesting to know if the speakers wake up and auto-sense the signal and switches the input automatically. Doing so it would make them an airplay 2 enabled solution without having to switch on and select the source. With vinyl it’s less an issue as you have to come around and manually place the disc. Switching input can be part of the ritual and even make the knobs somewhat useful. For streaming that would be essential as far as I’m concerned.

    I am so happy you made this as I’m getting ready to buy something for a medium sized room . Music is first, then TV just for intelligibility.
    I had a feeling the sevens would be better, Klipsch can’t help themselves. With an 8” driver they had an opportunity to make something really special, but they just use the potential to make a frat party speaker. I was afraid Klipsch wouldn’t high pass the speaker with a sub but Klipsch finally sent me a response explaining they do. I don’t know why they would not advertise that as it’s a really big deal.
    ANDREW!!!!!
    Would you use a SVE sealed sub or the new Klipsch subs that are slot ported? As I said Klipsch can’t help themselves and I’m afraid the Klipsch would be boomy , more HT worthy instead of fast and musical.

    A couple weeks ago I was hunting an in-store demo of The Nines and managed to "only" score one with The Fives... Well needless to say, compared to my current old stereo (too embarrassing to mention) they absolutely blew my mind and they didn't even have a sub connected! I was shocked at how much more clean & lower the bass was I heard from such a small speaker compared to mine. Based off of that demo I was instantly sold on wanting The Nines. Not only was I sold on The Nines but I was originally only hunting them as my "first real mid-fi system". A bridge, if you will, until I can afford something traditionally "end game" special in a passive with good separate components. But I think based on The Fives performance I could be looking at my "good enough for endgame" system in these and a half decent turntable. I am by no means an "audiophile", chasing every ounce of detail. What I heard was more than enough to keep me happy. Now... based on your video, I think I'm going to play it safe and get The Sevens instead and hunt a little sub too. I've had enough of hearing sloppy, boomy bass, muffled details and no soundstage with this crappy thing in front of me and I'm going to be treating my room first, as best I can given it's a rental. Thanks for all your advice, both of you. My only question is what subs should I consider given I don't need concert levels of bass? I have elderly people living all around me and I too am more about accuracy than maximum SPL. I was thinking maybe something like a Rythmik powered servo sub, for their speed of woofer control? My room is roughly 23(L) x 16.5(W) x 8ft(H) if that helps in determining sub size.

      The nines for the win, I ordered them Klipsch direct, for your size room, definitely the nine, the low end doesn't even make any sense, it's bonkers, and you can dial it back if you decide to with the eq. They can dig low and throw into a big room just fine, no sub needed, he's just pushing the sub setup to help push to Klipsch sale more subs.

    • @SpirallingOut
      @SpirallingOut Год назад +2

      @@JukeboxAlley Hmm.... OK, yeah you make a good point. I did also hear Klipsch are selling quite a few more Nines pairs than they are Sevens, so they might have asked reviewers to "influence" (god I hate that word now) people more toward The Sevens. I'm going to have to organize that demo in-store of The Nines after all, I think. I want to know for myself, whether I can hear the cabinet resonance. Plus, the idea of not needing a sub really appeals to me. The only problem is the sales guy who demoed The Fives told me Klipsch are only importing 60 pairs of The Nines into my country. He may have meant the limited McLaren edition, of which is $1100 more than the standard Nines and i'm not interested in paying that much for an ugly paint job anyway. Thanks.

      @@andrewrobinsonreviews not mainly just the sevens, but pushing the subs along with the seven. Come on, we both know their not selling subs like they used to with REL and SVS running at the top of the sub market nowadays. When in reality there's honestly no sub needed with the nine in most rooms, and not just "boom boom" as you put it, you just dial the bass on the eq down, or up as needed, it's there if you need it. When people go to resale then (if they decide to for whatever reason), which will most likely sale best and for more dough, the flagship, or the middle of the series? Almost always the flagship of the series tends to bring more and hold value better, exactly why the fives can be had for the $400 range now. All that aside, the channels growing and your doing fine, keep doing what your doing, people like it just fine. Their very pretty videos.

    I understand why the seven's might be better than the nines. Real world example. In my experience, the Rp500MII are superior to the rp600MII in everything above the bass. I feel as though the smaller woofer is more responsive and integrates better with the tweeter. I'm getting a cleaner mid/midtreble in the 500MII. However, if you room is very small, I would get the Fives over the Q900B. Don't get the Bose 900 without the Sub, it sounds very hollow. I had the Bose 900 before returning it for the Q900B. The Bose 900 ( ran through 2 sets) had constant disconnecting issues with the Bose surround speakers. Anyway, the Q990B sounds better than the Bose 900 with 2 bose surrounds and the sub that costs way more than the Q990B. The drivers on the Q990B/C are small, but they sound absolutely amazing. I won't buy any of the three, but the Sevens surely sound like the Goldilocks pick!
    I'm sure I could be proved wrong of course, but in my mind you really can track the transition from desktop to room-filling sound in a 2-way design as the woofer size increases from 4in to 5in to 6/6.5in and larger. And, even before your review, I would have been tempted but also wary of the Nines. For some reason an 8in woofer is hard to pull off in a stand mount speaker. And those physical dimensions! 20in tall, 13in deep, and 28.4/27.0lbs... That's not a shelf-of-any-kind speaker!
    Yep, even before your review I would have wondered if the Sevens would be the 'just right' choice and easier to live with.

    I have an older pair of R-51PM's and I think I know exactly what kind of "boxiness" or "boominess" you're referring to. The midrange gets a bit boomy and muddy especially with Dynamic Bass EQ on (let's face it, that function should simply be called "Bass on/off" because that's what I hear, haha). If you have the option for more nuanced EQ I highly recommend just lifting the entire mid-treble range (midrange and up) just a HAIR, 1dB is honestly enough sometimes. Then you really strike up that incredible presence and detail, but I theorize that Klipsch are truly designed to be set up AWAY from you (had mine way too close at first), and you are expected to crank the sound WAY up, preferably for action movies and rock music. That's when their "signature" sound comes alive and they're much easier to forgive, but there are more nuanced and "musical" options out there for sure. In short, they are a fist with details on the knuckles, not a silk glove with some power to it. 😂

    These would make for a great simple system for many.
    An HDMI cable from you TV, and the use of the built in music apps that come with tge TV and there you go. A nice simple 2.1 ch movie system, and a fun 2.0 stereo system.
    Interesting.

    Hey guys. I have been watching you guys for a long time now. You guys are my first channel I've subscribed too. I really enjoy your no non sense approach. If you like it then enjoy it. I own a pair of klipsch rf7 ii. I was just wondering if you have ever reviewed these towers or not. Just curious on your take. I doubt I'll get a reply. I imagine you guys are insanely busy with everything you need to keep us entertained. Lol. Just know I appreciate you guys and what you are doing.

    No love for the Six's?! A pair of the Six's have lived at my house, my mom and dad's house and now my brother's house and we have all enjoyed the O.G. powered heritage platform.

    Yeah I like to get them for my other room. I like to see Klipsch, or for that matter any company come out with a POWERED CENTER channel, not a soundbar, a real center channel, so you can connect your active speakers together for a 5.1/5.2 system, all wired of course, no WIFI or wireless or WISA connection.
