I have a pair of KG 3.2 Klipsch that I bought way back in the 90's which are amazing speakers on their own, but my hearing is not what it use to be and I wanted voices to stand out a bit more in movies so I bought the R-41's. I feel they really did the trick. Later I added a 12 inch Klipsch sub to fatten up the base notes in my Jazz and man oh man this combo is just incredible! Good review Boomer, Us old guys need to stick together so I subbed.

I love my Klipsch speakers. I have a pair of R-28Fs in my main listening room with a Velodyne sub, a pair of Synergy B2s in my office and I had a pair of RSX-4s with a Yamaha sub in a modest living room system. Sadly, one of the RSX-4s started to distort so I replaced them with NHT C1s. The NHTs sound great but while the Klipsch speakers sound great at any volume, you really have to drive the C1s to sound good. I kinda wish I had bought the R-41Ms.

  • @KevinStriker

Why not both? I bought the R-41Ms based purely on their size (they were going into a tight space) and later the R-51Ms for another room since I liked the sound of the smaller ones so much. Since then I've got them working together in a lovely little throwback quadraphonic system.
R-51Ms in the front and R-41Ms in the back for movies or music, it's rather nice.

    • @kellynicklassen5896

R51's need to be connected to an amplifier. Mac to the Dac to Amp to the speaker. Unless you have R51PM which are self powered, then you can use a 3.5mm to RCA cable. In either connection the Dragonfly's volume needs to be set at max so it will enter DAC only mode.

I currently have a pair of klipsch RB -51 II passive speakers, paired with the fosi audio 2 channel 100 watt 8 ohm amp but I wanted to add a subwoofer and an audio interface to my set up.
I was looking at the focusrite scarlett solo but due to my speakers being passive I’m unable to pair the two and I know I would also need a subwoofer connection, so I started looking at buying a new amp. I’m looking for 2.1 - 8 ohm amp. (75W RMS to 300W peak) that I can connect to the focusrite

I have listened to the 51s extensively and am mighty impressed with one caveat. The bass is only correct when in +sub mode, regardless of whether a sub is used. The horn, crossover, and LF driver are just superb and very well balanced but not when the LF drivers are asked to cover the octave below 80Hz. I know that sounds like a big minus but it’s not to me.
To be so beautifully balanced from say 100Hz to 20kHz is way more than I expect from a speaker of this price. I could mix on them with a sub and I have several to choose from. Something is very wrong with the lowest octave of the 51’s driver. No big deal.
