    Wow, I just replaced my Brother 1034D with the Singer ProFinish this week. I dropped my Brother from moving it and broke the sliding cover door and the plastic thread looper. Couldn’t get it fixed because repair shops are closed due to covid so I had to purchase another machine. I had my Brother well over 10 years and never had any problems with it other then replacing the bulb. Didn’t want to purchase the same machine so I went with the ProFinish and from your video it appears they are quite similar. Happy with my purchase, I hope this machine has a problem free life like my Brother. Thanks for the review it was very helpful.

    Thank you so much Roxanne. I am sitting in front of my singer pro- finish, just took it out of the box and tried it. It did a great job. I was trying to open the free arm and thought that it didn't work and then I fiddled with the thread and it broke and then I thought, back in the box it goes😂. And surprisingly I open You Tube and there you appeared like a magician. Phew! You made everything so easy. Thanks for that video. You saved my night.

    Thank you so much for this unbiased , feature by feature comparison. When I was buying my first sewing machine I got so tired of everyone "downing" one specific brand , but not just giving solid comparisons and reasoning. Luckily, I went with my gut and not the advice and I have been happy from day 1. Sergers are trickier though and I really appreciate this great review to take away so many questions and the need to ask others.

      Hi Patricia. I've owned my SPF for many many years. It's exactly the same model they still sell now. I use it mainly for constructing knits and have always found it to be a very reliable, affordable machine. The Brother seems to be a nice machine too, but I really don't use it very often. Most issues people have with the SPF is that they don't take the time to learn to use it and blame the machine. I also read alot about the the Brother's needle plate breaking but that seems to be from user error. You seem to have your heart set on the Brother so maybe wait for that to come back into stock? Make sure to take the time to really learn how to use it. 99% of issues are user error. Good luck.

      Hi Andre. I've owned the SPF for many many years with no issues at all. I'd say it's very reliable and affordable. The Brother was purchased shortly before that video to do the comparison. It's been a good machine as well. No issues at all. I was concerned about all the broken needle plates I read about with this model, but haven't found it to be inferior to the Singer. These are both good entry level machines. If you take your time to learn threading, maintenance, and create good habits, both will last a long long time.

      @@RoxanneStitches Thank you Roxanne for taking time to reply. Based on your research and local product availability (scarcity due to covid) as well as other reviewers, I feel comfortable making a purchasing decision now. 👍

    I have the singer profinish and it gets a lot of use. My only issue is that it won't cleanly cut and overlock through more than 2 layers of knit. I really really need it to sew through 3 layers and over the seams in those 3 layers. Any suggestions?

      Hi Barb. I'd try increasing needle size and presser foot pressure. Just add a little at a time and see if it improves.

      Roxanne! Thank you! I'm back in business! Pressor Foot adjustment, larger needles along with the new knife blades and it's cooking like a champ!

    Hi , could you please tell me which one is best for roling heam for bottom of the dresses? Thank you very much

    • @RoxanneStitches

      Hi florentin. Both machines do a rolled hem. For best results, use wooly nylon in the upper looper for a heavier covered stitch.

    I got the brother I was thing of returning it for the singer or janome the feet don’t snap on at all I’ve tried and I couldn’t do it so that is something I really don’t like

      @RoxanneStitches  3 года назад

      Hi Krystle. I understand. There are likes and dislike for me with both these machines. Personally, I've never changed the foot on my Singer probably because it only comes with one foot. The Brother comes with addition feet, so that's a plus, but haven't used them though.

    What about singer heavy duty serger? Is it comparable with Singer pro finish?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  3 года назад

      Hi youuni, Sorry, but I don't own that serger. The SPF has always sewn through many layers very well for me.

    Do you know if I would be able to sew heavy weight denim or heavy neoprene on these machines?

      Hi Chvz, I'm not really sure how many layers you mean? I would suggest purchasing a heavy duty serger instead.

    Very interesting video. Singer also can sew with only 2 threads, Brother can do only 3 threads

      These machines are sergers or overlockers. They sew and cut at the same time and finish edges as they sew. Yes, you can construct with these machines with perfection.

    My presser lifting lever has some slight play in it on my new brother. Is it supposed to have?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  3 года назад

      Hi Anne. Yes. When lifting the lever, it raises about 1/2" before the presser foot actually lifts. I think this is normal.

    Hi, I wanted to buy a over lock machine but I didn’t know which one I wanted to buy Because I’m gonna use it a lot I go to a fashion design school and sew clothes at home and in school I’m used to a industrial over lock machine ( a Juki ) but I don’t know what I need to look in for a machine so if you could help me it would be awesome 🤍

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  4 года назад

      Either one of these would be fine especially for sewing knits. Just make sure to really learn how to use them. Juki also has a home sewing model that looks nice.

    why is it so noisy?

    • @RoxanneStitches
      @RoxanneStitches  Месяц назад

      Sergers tend to be more noisy than a conventional straight stitch machine because all of the exposed moving parts. They also need to be oiled more often.
