Connor - advocating for the story in John Wick
Garnt - saying he just cares about the action
Oh how the turns have tabled
This entire episode is basically garnt makes controversial and bad takes.
I think he's just a contrarian as this point.
@@heroicxidiot Idk, the latter half had Connor catch up by straight up describing Oshi no Ko wrong. The show literally explained how Aqua found Akane. He's also complaining how the author is lazy with the details showing the realities of social media while also complaining how the author shoudn't have used a real case of online harassment as a point of reference. So does he want the author to do reasearch or not? It felt like gatekeeping just because he's an influencer.
I'm with him that the MC is dramatic as fuck but the show never exagerrated him being a genius. Like, how is brute forcing to unlock a phone for 3 years "genius"? He is more of a manipulator which is pretty realistic. There's tons of manipulative people irl tbf.
Garnt: I ONLY PLAY FOR STORY!
Also Garnt: I skipped the story
Isn’t the whole third movie just him losing a finger and talking to a guy? Nothing else major? Idk don’t remember much.
It's funny how the title is "We have no enemies" but the first thing this episodes presents us is Garnt's villain origin story

Garnt: Did John Wick really need story cutscnes?
Connor: YOU CAN'T SKIP THE CUTSCENES! YOU NEED THEM!
There is, indeed, some irony there.
I think the difference here is the medium. Like games have gameplay. Movies are just a passive watch.
@@DaUber30k Exactly, Connor plays games to PLAY THE GAME not watch a movie between playing the games.
@@DaUber30k Maybe. But the John Wick story is like filler between the action scenes.

I know it's been out for a month, but I just wanted to share Raul Julia's story as to why he took on the role of M bison and why he gave 110%. At the time, Julia knew he was dying of cancer. He had maybe one or two film roles left before sickness would take him, so he wanted to take on a role that a) his kids could see and b) his family could stay with him during filming. Street Fighter was a game his kids loved, so he knew his kids and their friends would see it, and it was filmed in Australia so he and his family got to do some snorkling and see sydney together as some of their last vacation memories. Plus, and this is from Raul himself, the script called for him to beat up Jean Claude Van Damme and he enjoyed that as it was a moment where he got to feel powerful again. A brief reprieve, to be sure, but one he enjoyed as he knew his time on this earth drew to a close.
He proceeded to chew on every piece of scenery when the cameras were rolling and made sure to deliver each line as if he was on stage in front of her majesty the Queen, so that each and every line would be memorable. I think that energy caught on and so everyone else had to bring some energy to match. And to this day, people don't look at Tuesday, or 5 british pounds, the same way....RIP Raul Julia....You made it a point to send it and by God did you ever.
Connor's reaction to Garnt not watching john wick 3 is gamers reaction to Connor skipping cutscenes.
Well he's not skipping anymore if you watch his recent gameplay
True gamers skip cutscenes. We don't care about the story, it's all about the gameplay.
@@waswat Depends on the price in my case. $60, no, $70 for a game that's basically just online multiplayer? Absolutely not, that's $15 at the most. People buy "gameplay" focused games because they know everyone else is buying it, so they know the multiplayer servers will be more populated than older games that actually have the exact same gameplay loop.
@@peacefulbystander847 I was gatekeeping as a joke but I've been gaming since the early 90s and in those days the story has always been secondary to gameplay. How much I'm willing to pay for it depends on multiple factors. I personally wouldn't pay more than 30 euros for a game in general unless it's one i've been anticipating like crazy. :)
These days that's mostly because we're spoiled for choice (especially on pc) and thank god for that tbh
@@waswat In the early 90's games were very basic. Even then there were story heavier games. Having been a hardcore gamer for 3 decades I always care about the story.
Playing games only for their gameplay got boring atleast a decade ago. I've just played too many games to care only about the gameplay.
It's funny that Connor is the one trying to defend plot in something like John wick, yet couldn't care less in games
well all the wick movies are monkey mode.
It's more funny that he complains Garnt didn't enjoy JW4 cuz he missed the subtleties from not watching JW3... then proceeds to complain about Oshi no Ko and displays that he clearly did not understand the plot (just like with 86) and proceed to say it was weird and bad lol...
For those interested, he states that the MC stalks the girl and saves her and that was weird, it was specifically stated that that only happened because there was a storm and one of their friends told their group that she had left her house and didn't hasn't gone home. Girl hasn't left her house in weeks, the MC couldn't give two shits about her normally, let alone stalk her.
As for the "editing makes her not depressed" take, in this case it was editing that made her depressed in the first place, that's why it could fix it. The reason she was getting flak from the internet was because the director of the show only decided to edit in the flame-baiting parts of the characters' relationship, so the group comes up with the counter method of editing and showing how the cast is like outside of the screen to show that the narrative was actually not at all how the directors/producers portrayed it.
With 86, Connor's monke brain took the show to be "racism bad, I get it," whereas the entire point was about a girl who knew "racism bad," "tried" to fight it, and got called out for her half-assed sympathy. The point of 86 was never about racism, it was a story about a post apocalyptic world where racism was only a very small part of one section of the story, and as realistic as it is, that specific issue was never magically resolved with anime magic logic like it did in One Piece.
Man, this, along with the recent Connor canvas mod nuke shenanigans, outside of the Mouse stuff, he's been making L takes and L moves all around lately.
@@kunfupandarofl stfu it is not that serious to write an essay over it
it's because he likes John Wick BECAUSE it doesn't have much of a plot, yet he likes it so much that he will defend it from all criticism, even the criticism that points out the very things he likes, it's kind of like shrodinger's taste, he simultaneously likes dumb media but hates it when people call it dumb so he will argue they are actually smart, even though he hates overly smart media

1:07:45 Boxing is actually far worse than MMA typically for fatal injuries because unlike what Conor said boxing goes longer because of the standing 8 counts and such, you can be knocked down multiple times and still continue to fight while in MMA if you get knocked down the fight is likely going to end soon. Obviously there are exceptions in both, as for the inhaler if they were legal most fighters would probably use them.
I'm glad you commented this, it's quite a misconception with how dangerous UFC is, when in reality it's pretty safe compared to other sports. Most fights are stopped pretty quickly and there has never been any deaths inside the octagon, while there has been loads in the boxing ring.
Boxing gloves make it look safer, if you don't know any better. In reality they just make it easier to tenderize the other guy's brain without breaking your hands. Not a great trade off for the long term health of anyone involved.
boxing also causes longterm brain trauma
The safety gloves aspect ironically makes boxing worse for the fighters long-term. There's a similar pattern with making American Football helmets safer for the head: it ultimately allows players to tackle harder and take more insane risks.
@@blammmed yeah in boxing it's pretty much head or body, and most fighters aim for the head while MMA you have more targets

I wish I could have seen that because he is so mysterious. They did specify that he is a warrior of Mikalgard which wasn't specified (only hinted at) in the manga. Damn it, If they have the storyboards I hope it can be included as an OVA or something
As a long time MMA fan, just wanted to address a few things the boys got wrong. While their are certainly risks involved in MMA fights that don't in boxing, such as hyperextensions from joint locks, or fractures from kicks, the long term health of the athletes is actually much better than boxing. It looks a lot more brutal because the smaller gloves are more likely to localize damage, making more cuts, breaking bones, etc. However, the gloves weigh SIGNIFICANTLY less than boxing gloves. This means that the hits are actually less powerful, and transfer less energy into the brain, which is what causes long term brain damage in fighters.
Which brings me to the next big thing they got wrong- fight stoppage is way faster, and way more common in MMA than boxing. If you get knocked down in MMA, that's usually a fight ender, whereas in boxing you get a ten count. That ultimately means better long term health implications for fighters.
Lastly, the inhaler bit. While life saving medicine shouldn't ever be prevented for a fight, a medicated inhaler *absolutely* provides an advantage in sports, not just fighting sports. It opens up your bronchioles and improves oxygen uptake, which is the whole point of the medicine. As you might imagine, that would be a pretty decent advantage for any athlete to have.
It is a difficult situation though, like if a fighter needs it should they still be denied their inhaler? There needs to be some kind of quick process in place to determine this when a fighter is on the stool. Also Greg Hardy is a piece of shit so there’s that.
What do you do when you have an asthma attack? Throw the fight?
Was looking for this comment 🤝
i agree with everyting accept the inhaler part, it just takes away a debuff that the other fighter doesnt have, returning it to a level playing feild, you stilll have to catch your breath the only now you are ABLE to catch your breath like a regular person in your situation would

It's quite funny how Garnt said that almost no one has heard about 'The Climber', when it is literally one the most critically acclaimed mangas of all time. I guess we manga readers will have another opportunity to come out of our bunkers when it finally gets an Anime adaptation.
I don't want to be rude to trash taste as I can tell that they are obviously misinformed on the UFC so hope I can clarify some of the comments. For one, the whole fact that MMA is more gruesome then boxing and less technical is actually the opposite. The level of technique that fighters have to learn in various different martial arts is much more skillful than boxing, as well as being able to mix it all up, and expose weaknesses. Secondly, when Connor says that he doesn't like to see when somebody is knocked out cold, FC and major organisations stop the fight as soon as a fighter has tapped or it is clear to see they have been knocked out, whereas in boxing, even if a fighter has been knocked down, they only get a ten second count until they are back into the fight, and as a result, there are around 14 deaths in boxing a year, whereas in MMA it's much less. Finally, about the inhaler situation, this is not an MMA thing. Inhalers are considered to be something that can boost performance in all sports, and the fighter that did it was an American Football player before that. As well as this, he did not use the inhaler in prior fights, as fighters are expected to know what they are consuming or putting into their body is approved by the governing body, which the fighter (his name is Greg Hardy) must know about, which is why Dana White wasn't happy with him. Overall, I like your guys' content but please do not make takes on stuff that has come from clips, and try and educate yourself on a topic before you bring it up. Thanks for the podcast, looking forward to next week's one
every take in this video is a new enemy
I totally get what Garnt meant about feeling a connection to the creator when reading a manga, personally I felt that when reading Chainsaw Man. When reading about Asa's loneliness and struggle to connect with people in part 2 I could relate so much, to the point it made me wonder if Tatsuki Fujimoto struggles with loneliness in that way too. The way her character and Denji's longing for intimacy was written felt so on point and relatable to me that I thought he must have felt something similar to them to write something that emotionally resonates so much.
As someone who’s incredibly shy, I love board games 😅 I enjoy having a starting point that opens up the conversation.
Connor’s take on Oshi no Ko is my nomination for worst Trash Taste take 2023 (no bias)
It's not just the take but his inability to give a good review to save his life
Not watching John wick 3 before 4 is pretty bad as well
Agreed
I don't understand why Oshi no ko is so much appreciated. I found it a really bad show and this is not how u should portrait the idol industry
@@Zero-eb7tlyeah, I don't like it too!
Hey lads love your videos! Just wanted to leave this comment here as a memorial. Back in 2020 I discovered the first episode of the trash taste podcast while housesitting for some friends. I’ve been listening for the last three years and I’m finishing housesitting for the fourth time in a row while listening to this podcast episode. Thanks for seeing me through the last three years as well as my pursuit of a bachelors degree in software development. Can’t wait for many more episodes in the years to come!
I’d love to see you make an episode with Takashii from Japan. I’d be very interested in hearing your conversations with them.
Bro Joey’s “but you’re out of a house” was the funniest shut ever
The boys seemed to be in a great mood this episode
Garnt sounds like he would love Outer Wilds since he's big on story and world building. I think the setting is easy to get into but very interesting and immersive
YES
I love the irony behind Connor being the one explaining the importance of plot to Garnt😅
Ps: no mentioning of Ong Bak with Tony Jaa?😮
My friend group is already fairly close so we don’t have that like breaking the ice issue, but something we always do every time we hang out irl is just draw.
We all always have some sort of art supply on our person so we just draw and talk.
It’s always a fun time and if we’re not doing that then we’re just talking and shit, thankfully we bounce off one another really well so it’s really easy for us to carry convos.
While they may not have any enemies atm, they can certainly create some with their takes xD
Maybe I could overlook their insufferable arrogance and stupid ugly mugs ifbthey weren't such hypocrites
Connor just did LMAO. OnK diehard-core fans clearly became his enemy after that. I like the anime but goddamn, you do need to turn off your brain for some scenes that are really questionable and requires you to just have a suspension of disbelief.
@@buffmon1038 anime fault, manga pretty much explains every thing, still a solid adaptation tho
Calling Garnt in its thai correct form is actually makes it more American. Giving his "bang bang bang" meme much more context.
Great podcast as always!!
Now I want to read The Climber but I can't find an English version anywhere. Am I just missing it?
About Blanca: From a Brazilian's perspective, that character has all the energy and Rng from our country. The sheer amount of weird, chaotic and somewhat random things that happens on a daily basis is represented by Blanca.
I don't know if we grew to be like that ,or if the creators of street fight were lucky to assign a character that truly represents our "Goblin energy".
For all the shit Garnt gave Connor for skipping cutscenes in video games, he sure has the nerve to skip an ENTIRE MOVIE in a 4 movie quadrilogy.
Not just that he skipped the best movie of the quadrillogy by FAR.. and im not saying 1,2 and 4 are not great movies but 3 had Halle Barry, John beating the shit out of guys with axes and breaking necks with books.. Using horses to kick dudes in the face and some of the best set pieces including that awesome dog attack.. I'm sorry but if im only watching one John wick movie the choice will be 3 every time
@@mullaoslo in what universe is 3 by far the best. 4 is the best received among fans and critics ur in the minority
@@whorod8895 well yeah it's my opinion.. I never said it was a fact.. But also my option NEVER has anything to do with what the majority or critics are saying.. I make up my own mind.. Seems like you just look at review scored
Man Garnt talking about Koukou no Hito gave me goosebumps while I was remembering the scenes when he was selling it to Conner and Joey.
The dichotomy of Trash Taste
Talking about games:
Connor: I just skip the story
Garnt: BUT THE STORY
Talking about movies:
Garnt: Yeah, I skipped John Wick 3
Connor: BUT THE STORY
This episode has some of the most INTERESTING takes in a while
The climber is truly a manga that hits you like a k-2 snow avalanche. It is in those life and death moments where you fear it and get so immersed you forget that you are just reading a manga.
Yes! Finally someone talking about The Climber! Its such an amazing manga, great story and art
Connor getting mad at Garnt for skipping cutscenes (aka all of John Wick 3) because he missed the story. What a world.
1:08:30 the referees can stop the fight if they think they have seen enough, even in the UFC. Its called a TKO.
And ultimately end up in the with less damage than boxing.
It honestly sounds like they've watched clips from the older era of the UFC. I wouldn't blame them for those opinions if that's their frame of reference. Refs tend to stop it a lot earlier now.
Also the main reasons why I watch it are:
A. The technique and learning from the best
B. The fighters and their stories
C. It's just more entertaining to watch than boxing
Vinland Saga hit different this season, and I was on board for it.
Lmao, in the span of 5 seconds
Garnt: Yeah, yea, yeh, yeah, yea
This was a good episode. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it 😂😂😂
I am so glad Garnt read and talked about The Climber. It's so underpopular and really desetves more love. Even better is that the chapters have newspaper articles of actual events regarding rock climbing irl. The only other manga I can think of that does something similar is "Holyland".
Garn has a superior sense of humour that he can't handle other people's bad jokes
His take on the game just shows that he's the unfunniest in a group
This man has used the word “vibe” every chance he has gotten since it started being trendy, his opinion is IRRELEVANT
@@HUMANSALAd666The man was a monk for a while, he only uses the word vibe so people understand what he's talking about. The energy of the room does indeed shift when everyone all of a sudden focuses on a comedy simulator.
@@balabanasiretiedgy jokes aren't his thing so you cant really call him unfunny
@@HUMANSALAd666 when did vibe become trendy??? it has been here for years now
49:00 Connors reaction to garnt watch JW4 before 3, was like my reaction when connor said he played hades but ignored the story 😂
Connor not liking mma but liking john wick is the greatest enigma.
Where's a huge difference between a real fight where pro athletes beat the shit out of each other and John wick where every fight scene is directed and no one gets hurt
It took a lot of balls from Connor to make that analogy about dressing up nicely if you're leaving the house bruh
garnt not appreciating clique driven insider humor during quiplash is my spirit animal
Garnt doesn't under stand 'John wick'
"John wick is a feeling"
So glad Garnt's found The Climber! Read it and some of those panels gave me actual goosebumps
The romance reality show drama in oshi no ko was not rushed in the anime
The anime did a perfect adaptation of 3 chapters per episode and that episode, episode 6 where akane gets cancelled was one of the best episodes in the show
Also aqua literally said mem told him that akane had went out during the typhoon so he went looking for her, and so did the other members of the cast after that. Connor needs to pay attention to dialog
I mean isn't it painfully obvious to search for someone when they are not responding to msgs and are at the most vulnerable stage of their life ?
It was a tiny bit rushed.
On the asthma attack part. The fighter's name is Greg Hardy and he did not have an asthma attack, he used that to gain advantage during the fight. If the fighter would truly suffer from asthma attacks that would endanger him he would've not been cleared to fight. Also this is why they are banned: "Inhalers are prohibited because they contain an active ingredient known as vilanterol. The substance is used to dilate the bronchial passages to treat asthma. According to USADA, it is a form of Beta-2 agonists which is a prohibited substance (even by inhalation).". In more simple terms, yes they treat asthma but also give you a boost of oxygen which comes in handy when you are tired.
I've been wanting to read The Climber SO badly, but I'm trying to hold out for a potential official translation. Glad to hear Garnt talk about it. ❤️
the most charming thing about these guys is they all have gamer dark circles under their eyes that no makeup can hide
