  • This is a short and favourite Chopin piece in a minor key evoking much emotion and harmonic color. It's so inventive because the melody is static, mostly a repeated note with shifting harmonies in the left hand. Each shift places the meaning of the repeated RH note in a new light. As with life, sometimes the smallest shift when you are in a dark place, can bring lightness. The climax of the piece rings out an energetic mountain of hope, with the final measures sounding a peaceful resignation to the prevailing dolor.
