People who feel the need to nitpick about the calories of something out loud or publicly instead of just not eating it exhaust me. Nobody cares if you’re restricting calories. Continue doing that. But it’s giving eating disorder to bring it up when nobody asked.
It’s not about the calories themselves. It’s about how many calories it has compared to the amount of protein and then calling it a protein bar. This is just straight up a dessert. You might as well just eat a peanut butter cookie because this has the same amount of sugar and calories compared to the amount of protein.
@@CuriosityKilledThisCat it’s really easy to say “that’s not very much protein” (relevant to the actual video) instead of “Yikes! That’s so much sugar and calories”. Diet culture has rotted people’s brains. If we can read your comment, we can read a nutrition label or google search the information. Thanks.
@@GirlofpagesExactly I’m tired of seeing people say “omg wow this has so much calories it has no nutritional value” JUST SHUT UP. Not everyone is counting their calories. I just wanted to see someone do something popular and see if it’s good. Not know if it’s healthy or not. Plus, people commenting those type of comments brings diet culture back. As someone who had an eating disorder, it was one of the reasons I had an eating disorder. I felt that I was forced to count my calories like others.
Organic fruit also uses pesticides btw! The "dirty dozen" is basically made up. But also damn these comments are really rude today about sugar and protein and this and that. Having some protein in a dessert is better than having none, and this is absolutely going to be a healthier dessert option than many other options. Let other people live the lifestyle and eat the foods that fit into their lives and you can live yours.
The "Yeah it's been two days I've been wearing these pajamas ! What you gonna do, sue me ?" part was the best one ! Recently discovered you on goodful and I'm happy I found this channel !
Last year I went to a strawberry farm for the first time and discovered that I'd never had proper strawberries in my life. The season only lasts 6 to 8 weeks where I live.
Tbh the best of these fruit barks is the one made with dates as the base! Same process, dates first squished down, layer of pb and then melted chocolate. Tastes like a candy bar
There’s a strawberry festival here I’ve gone to a couple times in Florida when I was a kid and I always loved it because I made this homemade strawberry shortcake and there was all sorts of fun things to do it was like the sweetest and best strawberries 🍓
Fruit is hard to grow indoors, but possible! I don't know the economics of having grow lights on all the time but I have seen some people do it that way (It also takes up a lot of space). Herbs on the windowsill are pretty easy though, and you can do those pretty much anywhere! Where I am, I would need to do shade tolerant herbs, but that may be different in California!
Adding to this: strawberries have done really well for me in hanging baskets and window boxes. If there is space just outside the apartment that is accessible, like a balcony, strawberry baskets will absolutely work.
I've done strawberry picking where I live, I used to always pick all the good ones, but someone the other strawberry pickers would just pick all of them, I say do it yourself if you can
This looks great and probably tastes wonderful too, but I hate to break it to you: there is probably more sugar in this "high-protein" bark than protein, so if you wanna do a more healthy version, either use a mix of cocoa powder and oil as choclate and don't use bananas cuz they are packed with sugar (and yes it's fruit you might say, but fructose is just the same as glucose for our bodies soooo high sugar fruit isn't recommendable). The one with strawberries is good (with the no-sugar choclate) cuz berries are awsome :) And make sure to use peanut butter which is 100% peanuts
One of the things TikTok is great at is combining random stuff into a recipe. It’s like a library of munchies. One of the things it’s bad at is tunnel vision. Yah that looks great and would have an ok amount of protein in it but it would also have a ton of fat, sugar, carbs from sugar and sodium. So I’m not saying it’s bad because if you want to make a desert, this will be less processed than a doughnut from a store but if you want to make a healthy desert with less fat and sugar than a doughnut, this probably has as much if not more. It’s like when smoothies were popular and people were making them out of bananas and strawberries claiming how healthy they were when in fact there’s about 20g of sugar in a banana and 7g per strawberry, your daily intake shouldn’t be more than 40-60g, that’s 5 strawberries and a banana. I highly suggest to anyone that reading this and saying oh no I’m really healthy you don’t know what you’re talking about to try an app like MyFitnessPal or one of the other ones and just track your macros for one week and then come back and tell me how healthy you are and I say this not to be a dick but because I did this years ago to myself when I thought I was eating healthy, sodium especially, yikes. Track your food for one week, see the macros, it will change how you look at food, especially anything processed or microwaveable.
@@WeTheDylan But you ARE being a dick. As far as sugar goes: yesterday was valentines day. I ate more indulgent foods than usual. I had a bunch of berries, foods sweetened with maple syrup and even, GASP, some chocolate chips. That all totaled out at 31g of sugar. And my number one contributer for the day was actually some homemade saag chole, not the fruit, not the maple, not even the chocolate chips or the protein bar I ate. There is NO NEED to fear monger around fruit consumption. Sugar from fruit or other whole foods is not the same as sugar from a bag, since it's packaged with fiber and vitamins and antioxidants. A number in an app is not the end all be all of your health or of your diet, since there's more nuance to what goes into our body than a single number. A gram of sugar from a banana and a gram of sugar from a bag are metabolized differently.
This looks awesome!!! - the bananas, im allergic :( I would add some protein powder or hemp seeds to the peanut butter or chocolate to make it a bit more high protein
I feel like using freeze dried fruit will give you a better consistency and it won't fall apart as quickly. You could even mix it into the chocolate and peanut butter layers and then form it into bark.
Pro tip my mom taught me to waste as little fruit as possible with strawberries. Take the end of a potato peeler (the little thing you use to get the eyes out of potatoes) and use that to take out the step in the top. Then you aren't cutting a chunk of the top off.
I feel like you could mix a bit of protein powder into the peanut butter with some soy milk to up the protein, and top the chocolate with hemp and sunflower seeds :) Would be great
This was fun! I became a workout human too back in August and this is a fun channel for higher protein stuff that covers a lot of bases, super clean www.youtube.com/@epicmintleaves/videos PS: So jealous that you have composting where you are! Portland OR has it, but I'm right outside the city in a different town/county and they still haven't gotten on board yet haha
Try similar method but make little PB sandwiches with 2 banana slices, blob of PB in middle. Freeze. Melt chocolate and coconut oil. Dip frozen banana PB nuggets in melted chocolate. Chocolate will harden like magic shell but you can toss back in freezer. Easy grab and go snack!
Can you try the strawberry + yogurt bites? Or the blueberry clusters? Similar to this but it’s like clusters and don’t usually have peanut butter. Most people use dairy, but it can be veganized. I always wondered if it actually tastes good or not sweet at all.
This, of course, looks super yummy! Just know that this is a high calory, nutrition dense, sugar bomb. And making a whole tray will definitely require self-control not to devour the whole thing at once!

speaking of chocolate, ranking vegan chocolate?? 👀

Hhhhhhm unsweetened peanut butter and dark chocolate probably better
Yikes, the calories will out weigh the protein in this. The only "protein" is from the peanut butter, which doesn't have much. Skip
I was thinking the same thing…maybe if instead of vegan chocolate, she used vegan chocolate protein powder???
Not to mention the glucose spike 👀

The peanut butter I use has 10g per cup!
