When I was pregnant I craved cinnamon raisin bagel with tofu chive cream cheese. It was the most amazing thing I have ever tasted. After giving birth I made myself the same bagel, expecting I found a hidden magic recipe… it was disgusting. Pregnancy makes you crave weird things
Very much so. I craved dill pickles with whipped cream and olives with hot fudge. The doctor told me it was likely an iron deficiency making me crave salty/sweet. I hated the resulting iron pills with a passion. So metallic.🤢
that is how my wife got me addicted to Cashews, 9 months of cashews that I also acquired a taste for, then she gave birth and I couldn't even open a package of cashews in the same town as her. lol
I craved a Blueberry bagel with onion cream cheese, I still eat it it’s so good. You could go an onion bagel with blueberry cream cheese. I also craved blueberry scones and cowboy beans my brother makes ( anyone else’s were not good enough) a lot of banana and pumpkin. I’ve heard that women crave things their body is lacking in. That’s why a lot of women eat dirt because if the minerals.
I made this with medjool dates, peanuts, peanut butter, chocolate and LOTS of salt and it did taste like a snickers to me! I think it was the addition of the salt that did it, I haven’t looked at the nutrition label on a Snickers but I would assume there would be a surprising amount of salt in them (as with most highly processed foods).
I wonder if you could add a small amount of coconut oil to natural peanut butter, which I prefer to jif and Skippy, so that the peanut butter layer is more stable.
You're all welcome. I found that out a few years ago, when someone posted how to make magic shell at home, for any flavors. I don't know if it'll stabilize peanut butter though. Haven't tried it since I'm allergic. Let us know if it does though! I'm curious.
It amazes me how she takes her time to analyze the finished product and get a few close up shots of the food! When that piece fell, I thought she should just devour it! But she resisted and kept going! 😅
I was surprised at how much I loved these when I made them! I use almonds and almond butter and dark chocolate! So yummy during that time of the month!
As a young teenager I attended the Indio California Date Festival with my parents and sister. It was a really fun festival and I really enjoyed eating all of the date versions of foods they served there, I remember there were some weird items. I had a date milkshake there so I do know how yummy those are. When we lived in Southern California my mom ate so many dates, believing they were more healthy than candy, that she put on weight rapidly and had to join this women's dieting group called TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly to shed the pounds. She got to her goal weight and got a trophy and her picture in a newsletter. Lol Mom is 91 years old now and never buys dates. Lol
Ha ha my mother was in TOPS in Massachusetts! I'm glad your mom was recognized by the organization for her weight loss, they're a very good program for that!! My mom is 94. Maybe TOPS has something to do with longetivity as well😆
I always have these ingredients in the house, so the first time I heard this I tried it. Not even remotely close to tasting like a Snickers. It's good, but not even close. Also, there are tons of types of dates, all with their own flavors.
I've tried many different dates and using the medjool dates would get the best results. Also Snickers is made with low quality milk chocolate, if you used any sort of quality chocolate then your bark would taste far better. I will confess that while I prefer good quality dark chocolate, I will eat a snickers if there are no better options.
Yeah, it won't taste the same because the sugar content is far lower between n all ingredients aside from peanuts. Nougat is mostly sugar, cheap milk chocolate has a lot of sugar, and caramel is mostly sugar and butter. There lack of oil and high fructose corn syrup will definitely impact the flavor. Most highly priced snacks cannot be made at home with accuracy, so we just have to look for near matches in flavor profile. And matching both flavor and texture is impossible for some things 🤷♀️
I used organic natural peanut butter w/o any additives and it was perfect! I recommend trying it. You will not notice the difference, but you will have a higher quality, healthier treat. I also used raw almonds, raw pecans, and roasted, salted cashews, all chopped up together, some unsweetened shredded organic coconut, and dark chocolate. This is my new favorite treat, and it is almost completely healthy!
Love your content, so glad I found you! I make a date shake with milk of choice (I use almond) frozen banana, medjool dates that I have cut up and soaked in water, vanilla extract , and ice. This recipe comes from little booklet from Shields Date Farm. P.s. snickers is my second favorite candy bar…I will take a plain milk chocolate Hershey’s bar over anything else!
To me, dates taste more like brown sugar or molasses rather than caramel (And is occasionally used as a vegan replacement in terms of syrup), but I'd imagine it wouldn't be identical... but I'm happy to hear it turned out good. Honestly I'd be surprised if it tasted bad. Will have to try next time I buy dates.
I haven't seen the bark version. But I made a similar recipe last Christmas. I cut the dates in half and filled them with peanut butter then chilled them before covering in chocolate. They were a hit, but very time consuming to make. edit: and then you mention the type I made, lol. Clearly I commented too early. 😂
I make a similar turtle, but I stuff with half a roasted and salted pecan and cover in melted chocolate. It’s also not an exact snickers replacement, but just as satisfying when you are just craving a little something salty sweet.
@@mkenyon1978 Interesting! I make turtles with 4 pecan halves in an "X" pattern, then put a spoonful of melted caramel (or homemade, depending on what is on hand at the time). The caramel goes in the center to hold all the pecan halves together. Then either dunk in melted chocolate or drizzle thickly until the "legs" are covered, and let them set up until the chocolate hardens. Delicious!! They look and taste just like the Turtles candies.
Oh Medjool dates! I buy only them about once a year. They are so delicious - I always eat too many at a sitting. I want to try this with the dates, pecans, maybe almond butter and chocolate. Sounds like heaven to me.
Your snack is pretty much the same thing! I filled my dates w Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread (nougat sub), 2-3 peanuts, cooled in fridge & dipped each stuffed date into melted chocolate. I found this more satisfying than a Snickers! 😊
I literally just bought a huge box of medjool dates to make energy balls (nuts dates and cocoa - they taste like brownies!) and it looks like I’m going to have to make these as well!
These are one of my favorite snacks! I will say I get why you pulled back the peanut butter but when I make then I add about double the peanut butter you did. I keep them cold in the fridge and that cold thick layer of peanut butter with the date makes a more similar experience to the nougat that is so hard to recreate without extra sugar.
@EmmyMade, The one thing that makes our shared U.S. culture "better," in one way, than any other on Earth, is that we get to share in the world's food culture, creating things that would blow our Ancestors' minds, and enjoy it all, together. No matter how we all got here, we are here, together, and are able to enjoy the differences that prove Diversity is our Strength. #IDIC I am SO glad you are here! Domo arigato gozaimasu . (My parents lived 2 years in Japan, gifting me with a deep appreciation for the culture.)
oh a date shake sounds so good. I used to work at a library and someone brought in some dates to give to us because they weren't going to eat them as they were traveling back to their family's home, that was the first time I had one and none of my coworkers ate any because they were unfamiliar/afraid?? for some reason. they taste so good, v soft and caramel-y. I'm still at the beginning, I bet this recipe will taste kind of snickers-y. I love the snickers ice cream bars, I bet dates would go good in ice cream.
Just tried this flavour combination in porridge and it was lovely. Used medjool dates, smooth peanut butter, a little salt and dark chocolate with rolled oats and oat milk. So good!
If you want a shiney chocolate finish, melt half in the microwave, then when its melted and hot, stir in the rest of the chips. Stir vigorosly to melt the remaining chocolate. This tempers the chocolate making it shiney with a snap as it breaks.
I made them with the deglet noir dates and they were good, but Medjool would be the best. And the dates need to be fresh and soft. I LOVED the result and will definitely make this again. Thanks for making this Emmy!
Try figs dipped in chocolate. Not those weird pale dried ones, though. I use dark, soft dried figs, "Figlets" they were called. They came in a box, now a bag, I think. They had more moisture so they were softer. They were SO good!
I'm living in Saudi Arabia where i can get date paste if every kind. Im going to try this using date paste and good quality milk chocolate, since I've never heard of snickers with dark chocolate ❤❤
For me i would diced and press the dates into mushier texture. Then bottom layer will be the thin chocolate, then a layer of mushed digestive biscuit, then the soft dates mush, then smaller peanut bits, then the chocolates on top.
With figs in season if you have a tree you can probably dry some figs and use them instead of dates for a fancy version. Then use walnuts and no peanut butter. Maybe some chocolate spread instead, like nutella. You can even make individual portions by decorating dry flattened figs individually with the toppings. Would likely be easier to handle and quite pretty for this season and even a bit Christmas-sey.
awww I don't. If we were in California there are fresh mission figs at the markets during the season. I prefer the smaller LSU figs that grow in Louisiana!! Thanks for sharing that with me. Very kind.@@kaylafon9718
Re: filled dates, some other wonderful fillings are whole almonds or other nuts you like, or marzipan. Chocolate dipped or not, they're great at the holidays.
I just bought some dates a few days ago with no particular plans of how to use them. You just gave me my plans. Even though I also picked up some salted, dry-roast peanuts, too, I will likely just use my usual crunchy peanut butter, and add a bit more salt. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
Dates and peanut butter are two of my very favorite foods, so I might need to try making this. I make an assortment of date bars and cookies each year for the holidays, so maybe I’ll add this to my repertoire. I bet variations with different-flavored chips or candy melts could be very tasty. Perhaps butterscotch chips or even peanut butter chips would work. This one does seem infinitely variable.
It helps to not flatten it. leave the dates as round as possible. just fill it with nuts and peanut butter and dip it in chocolate. it’s that thick chew you’re looking for !
Emmy, most people would likely suggest that your peanut butter craving was for the fats and proteins. That is possible, however I find it fascinating that peanut butter is really high in B6 and Vitamin E. Thank you for making this recipe, I was curious about it.
Using almond butter and almonds make even better...in my opinion anyways. I used various nut butters with the corresponding nut and all are delicious but I'm partial to the almond. Also try topping it with salt flake salt....so delicious
Dates are sweet but blood sugar friendly. You can split dates, fill hollow with peanut butter, put together again and drizzle with dark chocolate (high cocoa content) for a RARE blood sugar friendly treat (in moderation).
Chocolate bark became really popular in the late 90's. Though the origins are now lost somewhere in the annals of history it actually came to the U.S. in the 60's.
Made this. More labor intensive than it seems, but worth it. Doesn't taste like a Snickers, it's 100 times better. Snickers wishes they were this good. Yum yum yum!
Made these and they were so delicious Emmy! I'll take these over Snickers anyday! Thank you for being a stress-buster and comfort-provider with your soothing and creative recipe videos
Stuff dates with peanut butter and roll in sugar. It’s delicious. I’d put those dates in a bender first and yes, a little coconut oil in the chocolate would help set it as well.
I prefer the individual date, fill with your choice of nut butter, nut of your choice and dip in chocolate or put a few chips in there. Definitely tastes like a snickers. I make these for cookie trays during the holiday.
I've never been able to like a date, people always say how nice they are, but, I can't stand them, also doesn't help that the most common ones look like something extracted from a cat litter tray....... :S
My mother used to make dates stuffed with cream cheese and chopped pecans around Christmas time. Very yummy. I remember helping her pit and stuff them.
You wouldn't happen to have a Minnesota State Fair video that you did this year? The one from 4 or so years ago was so fun to watch, I really hope you have another one. btw all of your videos are fun to watch!
Another variation of this that I’ve made is this. Put nut butter of choice INSIDE the date, along with a half of a pecan. Then close the date and coat the whole thing in chocolate. Very good!
For the past month I've been making this (no nuts, not a fan) with almond and cashew butter all the time and I loved it. Sadly, I had to stop buying dates...because with or without the nutbutter and chocolate I could eat dates all day long! 😢
I can't help but think...chocolate under and over..both...I gotta make this! Mebbe chocolate on the opposite paper after smooshing dates, then dates on the choco, then the PB and salty nuts, then choco top? I used to use Snickers to relieve motion sickness while flying in storms...just nibble the bar every couple of minutes. Never got sick.
Finally, someone I trust, trys this recipe 😄 P.s. try putting some chopped green onions and chili flakes on your peanut butter toast. You'll never see peanut butter in the same light again.
I love your channel, Emmy! You are such a great cook, presenter, and educator! You are also very calming. I’ve made these, and they are great! Only difference is that I coat the bottom, and cut them before refrigerating. I thought you said milk chocolate😬? On my screen, this looks like a lighter dark choc. There isn’t a thing wrong with dark chocolate, either. It’s just a bit less like a Snicker’s, to me. BTW: these taste better on day 2 or 3, if any are left! Great presentation, as usual!!!💜🩷
For anyone that wants to try this, a tip I learned a while back about peanut butter is, don't get the really cheap stuff that says peanut spread. It won't melt in the microwave. It'll burn and get a weird consistency.
I can't have peanut so I use a 50/50blend of sunflower and cashew butter. Tastes just like peanut butter. Also, I use Lily's sugar-free chocolate chips. Their caramel chips are yummy!
Peanuts have potassium, magnesium and B vitamins protein, fiber. And lots of other things that would be too long to mention 😅 But thought it might be helpful!
For those of us that are allergic to peanuts.. I guess you could use Almond butter or if you want to be decadent you could use cashew butter... I am sure either would be equally good..!
The Majhoul date variety is more of a brown colour when “fresh”. Dates will turn a very dark brown/black when it becomes overly oxidized. In Arabic it would be described as having turned.
8:06 how interesting ! With my first baby I didn’t like sandwiches anymore. With my second baby I went off noodles! I used to love instant ramen, or a chow mien from the local takeaway, and now I just cannot stand the texture! I do like bread sometimes now, but less than when I was a teen! And I still haven’t really found a way to enjoy noodles anymore, despite my youngest being 11 soon!
I used Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread as nougat & used real peanuts. For a twist, you could use Biscoff spread or for a neutral spread use almond butter. They were EXCELLENT & yes, tasted much like Snickers! 😊
im no fan of dates but maybe i would like those also would like to make them for my family i like any kind of baking no fan of cakes and such but i love to making them and is a very very few kinds of cake and confections i like but i always loved to make em
I didn't have my first "date" until I was old & waaaay beyond High School... 😋(HaHaHa) Seriously, I love adding dates to my morning oatmeal, chopped up in salads, & occasionally even in brownies & cookies, like peanut butter oatmeal cookies...YUM 🥰

The Medjool dates are sooooo much better than the Deglet Noir. There's a vast texture difference.

Watching this while eating a date square, not sure how common they are outside Canada but it’s quite delicious
Another variation of this that I’ve made is this. Put nut butter of choice INSIDE the date, along with a half of a pecan. Then close the date and coat the whole thing in chocolate. Very good!
Looks good, now try stuffing the dates with almonds (cut a slit in each one, and shove a whole almond in each date), then dust with cocoa
For the past month I've been making this (no nuts, not a fan) with almond and cashew butter all the time and I loved it. Sadly, I had to stop buying dates...because with or without the nutbutter and chocolate I could eat dates all day long! 😢
Your voice is VERY relaxing 😌 I watch you in the evening to escape the world 💗
I can't help but think...chocolate under and over..both...I gotta make this! Mebbe chocolate on the opposite paper after smooshing dates, then dates on the choco, then the PB and salty nuts, then choco top? I used to use Snickers to relieve motion sickness while flying in storms...just nibble the bar every couple of minutes. Never got sick.
Dates stuffed with almonds is my favorite “energy” snack.
Ive stuffed dates with pb and dipped them in chocolate, but this looks much easier to do more at a time and I be the peanuts add a nice crunch.
Finally, someone I trust, trys this recipe 😄
P.s. try putting some chopped green onions and chili flakes on your peanut butter toast. You'll never see peanut butter in the same light again.
Chili flakes? Please enlighten me. ???
I want to try this just for grins! 😊
@@wysteriacarlino1302 trust me, savory is the way to go (thanks for the spelling correction)
But chili flakes? Do you mean chili powder? Chili seeds? What are chili flakes?
If you're into savory PB sandwiches, I assumed you've the sandwich with peanut butter and pickles?
@@wysteriacarlino1302 nope. Chili flakes are crushed dried chilis (not ground to powder form). Google is better at explaining this than I am.
It’s so funny, I was the same way when I was younger and I didn’t start eating chocolate until I was like 13. My daughter is the exact same way!! Haha
For anyone that wants to try this, a tip I learned a while back about peanut butter is, don't get the really cheap stuff that says peanut spread. It won't melt in the microwave. It'll burn and get a weird consistency.
Your videos are very comforting to watch.
And so yummy too!
Watching her drizzle the chocolate on the confection made my mouth water even though I'd just eaten.
For those of us that are allergic to peanuts.. I guess you could use Almond butter or if you want to be decadent you could use cashew butter... I am sure either would be equally good..!
This is the earliest I've every been to one of your videos 😂 It happened to be exactly what I needed right now too 🥰
Me too!
The Majhoul date variety is more of a brown colour when “fresh”. Dates will turn a very dark brown/black when it becomes overly oxidized. In Arabic it would be described as having turned.
EMMY! I just made this date bark snickerish & it is wonderful! Easy to make, so tasty! I'll do this again! ❤ Thank you for your video!
You should try Kolaczki(polish date filled cookies), maamoul(middeleastern date filled cookies) or old fashion raisin filled cookies!
I madek maamoul in this video: ruclips.net/video/vAJrDHqjPp8/видео.html.
I didn’t know u could get Cinnamon Toast Crunch spread… 😋
@@jules3048Me either! Going to Amazon Canada right now to see if I can buy some 😂
@@jules3048
It’s...... freaking........AMAZING!
@@jules3048, May be limited. Being sold at Dollar Tree. But maybe Amazon. That's where I got mine. 😉
Snickers has come out with butterscotch scoop flavor now in the US too, so you could throw that in this too.
I love old fashioned Date Bars.. I'm not a big fan of dates but I love those.. my grandma used to make those all the time
Nothing could taste as good as a snickers
Next time add Skippy extra chunky to the peanut butter. You can eliminate the normal peanuts, or it's super chunky. I don't remember
Have you tried Smuckers PB? It’s more roasted than most brands. If you like dark roasted peanuts you should give it a try.
im no fan of dates but maybe i would like those also would like to make them for my family i like any kind of baking no fan of cakes and such but i love to making them and is a very very few kinds of cake and confections i like but i always loved to make em
Reminds me of a Larabar. I LOVE them.
They have a chocolate peanut caramel truffle bar yum 😋😋😋😋
You could always add some coconut oil to the chocolate to thin it out a little
I love medjool dates! Organic are best!
I hope you get very big checks from Stearns and Foster. All I ever get is the exact same mattress as from them every time I watch one of your videos.
just seen the intro and this has to be good. Already wondering, would a bit of salt flakes on top make it better or not? 😅
Omg. It does.
I think dates are a great natural sub for nougat! I wouldn't have thought about it!
The dates act more like the caramel & sweetness. 😊
No. They are not similar at all
@@napoleonfeanoran easy way to get a chewy texture though. Probably more sugar in the dates though.
I craved peanut butter on a big fluffy pancake with really buttery crispy edges and honey on top when I was pregnant with my youngest 😂
I’m grooving on your longer hair Emmy!! ❤
To smooth the date you also could have used the bottom of the other cookie sheet on top of the parchment paper.
We love Emmy!
Oh Emmy, I know that’s delicious. You are such a cool cook!
These would be so good with some chopped pretzel on top
I love the look of this, I’m gonna give it a go! 😋😋😋
My mom used to make it a Italian anise cookies with a date inside. They were good!
with candy bars costing up to 2 bucks a peace now.. this is a much better method
Thank you for making this video! I just LOOOOVE your channel even tho I am a raw vegan! I make a raw version with Hu Kitchen Chocolate Gems. The ingredients are super clean.
Ive planted the seeds from dates, abd they will grow, if anyone is interested in trying.
