Morgott, the Grace Given - Elden Ring Boss Lore Explained

- Morgott, the Grace Given, the Veiled Monarch, the King of Leyndell. He is one of the central figures of Elden Ring and major players of the Lands Between. Born cursed as on Omen, he rose above his graceless birth to become worthy in the eyes of the Order. I hope you enjoy this exploration of the story of Morgott.

Some addendums! I want to explore the Omen more. The ones in the sewers have their horns, so they should assume to be royalty. There's also evidence that their horns may not be a curse, at least before the Elden Ring/Erdtree came into play. Also, shoutouts to the artist who let me use their art for the thumbnail (twitter.com/Qostine)!
Another great video! keep it up.
It's rykard he's fighting not radhn, rykard is radhans twin, and the gilmir forces faced layndell in the shattering. And to date they stand in defense most heavily near the Mt gilmir crossing.

@@Logaterasou First off Godfrey's care for Morgott that we see in his cutscene suggests that they were close to each other before he was banished and Godfrey was banished after the War with the Giants was over and considering his care he wouldn't let Morgott stay in the sewers (he may have convinced Marika to release him and Mogh because they were his children).
Second. The hammer Morgott makes out of Light is actually based on Giant Crusher. A Hammer used in War with the Giants, suggesting that he partook in that war given his proficiency with that weapon.
And third. After Godwyn died he created Sentry's Torches for army of Leyndell to protect other Demigods from assassins. He definitely inherited his father’s unrelenting determination to succeed. Even as an Omen, he won’t let that stop him from protecting the golden order. He’s probably the demigod I respect the most.
He is quite tragic really. He is the last one keeping the very System going that treated him like trash out of a warped need of belonging.

@@thanquolrattenherz9665 of course, I am the LORD OF FRENZIED FLAME
The saddest part about Morgott is that he was legitimately blessed. Omen curse is no curse. It's a blessing of the Crucible which was later seen as a curse due to Golden Order. He may as well have been the most holy of all Demigods, but he was punished for it by being left for a time in the sewers and he hated HIMSELF for it. That is until he was released, most likely by the time Giants were still a threat since Godfrey knew and cares about him and he was banished after he beat the Giants and I don't think someone that seemingly cared for him so much would leave him in the sewers. And Morgott uses Giant Crusher as one of his Light Weapons. A weapon used in the War with Giants.
He thought no one loved him when it's clear his father did and maybe the only person that he knew that did care was Godwyn, but he was killed in night of the black knives. He tried to be a protector, he created Sentry's Torches to protect his other siblings and yet... they all betrayed him and destroyed everything he loved and even then when he shows up in the throne room and calls his siblings traitors he still seems to have some actual care for them after all of that (outside of Rykard who may have taken more public role in killing Godwyn as part of his deal with Ranni which could have been start of his Blasphemy).
Morgott was a good person that was betrayed by almost everyone around him. By his family that started destroying their life and breaking their world, by the Erdtree which wouldn't accept him due to his "curse" and by Golden Order which indoctrinated him into hating what he was blessed with.
Morgott is probably one of the saddest characters in the game, if not THE saddest. A bitter person who has nothing, but hatred for himself and his family and the only thing he cares about is the thing that made his life miserable in the first place. And the only people that loved him are either dead (Godwyn who given that he befriended Dragons most likely cared little about curse on Morgott) or he never got to know they loved him (Godfrey). At the end when we fight him he is legitimately left with nothing, but the crumbling city and his duty which is built on lies of the Greater Will.
Pray for Morgott The Omen King, The Grace-Given. The True King of Leyndell and only worthy successor of Godfrey. A true heir. The only Demigod left that is worthy of being called Golden. Morgott the Golden Omen.
This needs more attention
@@sexoamigo Morgott as a whole deserves FAR more attention. He is an ultimate tragic character in ER. Definitely my favorite one. It's said there were two seige on the capital one by godrick army and the other by radhans army morgott came out of sewers and defeated radhan(source: opening cutscene) and it seems since he was locked up in the sewers no one probably knew about him not even his other sibling
@@ineedname9963 Actually Morgott most likely was out of the sewers during War with the Giants. Here are the clues:
First off Godfrey's care for Morgott that we see in his cutscene suggests that they were close to each other before he was banished and Godfrey was banished after the War with the Giants was over and considering his care he wouldn't let Morgott stay in the sewers (he may have convinced Marika to release him and Mogh because they were his children).

You literally copy/pasted this from a reddit post, pretty sad, lmao
The lion on Godfrey’s back was meant to silence his emotions, especially his bloodlust of a warrior. However, probably other emotions as well. If that is so, then you can deduct that Godfrey seams just sad, but lion’s roar suggest that actually he is crying of despair inside. I doubt Morgott was never loved, rather he did not believe that anyone could love him.
This is a fire take tbh
He was not born into a society that wanted to love him. No amount he could do would overcome their hatred of his curse.
I dont know the care he shows when picking up morgott's body before his boss fight seems to suggest otherwise.
I imagine that even locked away, godfrey would often visit and tell tales of the erdtree and its might. Perhaps that's what drives morgott, the romantic tales of his father, mother, and the glory of the erdtree.
Edit: Also something I noticed in the cutscene before godfrey's fight. The lion serosch who has his sealed nature and perhaps emotions, is growling and screaming as if he were in anguish or mourning, while godfrey says "it's been a long while morgott".

I love the sheer contrast between Morgot and his twin brother, Mohg.
Morgot looks like an outcast wearing tattered clothing yet utilizes Holy incantations akin to the Golden Order. And his moveset seem much more fluid and agile, while also refusing the power of the omen curse. While his twin, who looks much more dignified and elegant, uses dark magic and bleed, which is a taboo to the order and fights extremely slowly and bombastically while fully embracing the omen curse and fucking grows satanic looking wings.
Morgot takes it upon himself to fight and defend the kingdom during the shattering, while his brother was lurking in the shadows away from anything related to the shattering, plotting, watching and waiting.
but i gotta give mohg some respect cause he's the one standing between you and the frenzied flame.
Not to mention mohg is a sexual predator / rapist
This game definitely loves having twins express opposite/parallel sides. Morgott and Mogh, Malenia and Miquella, and even Marika and Radagon. Even Ranni has some of this with the four arms and two faces. Then you have the Two Fingers and the Three Fingers, both with their yellow-themed powers but one obsessed with building and the other equally obsessed with destroying.
@@ladyabaxa you have the one finger as well

And kidnapping children
Morgott is very simular to Gwyndolin in the sense that they where both seen as the shame of the Family (Gwyndolin having snake legs and being born the "wrong" Gender, Morgott being an Omen) but have internalised the system harder then anyone else. Meaning that by the time the player meets them they are now the only ones keeping the broken System going, that abused them in the Past. While all the People that used to actully benifit from it had ether run of, gone insane or rebelled against it. Meaning that nobody benifits from them doing it regardless, making it quite tragic.
Came here to make a similar observation. The only difference I see is that while Gwyndolin is the guiding you towards the ending of the game Morgott tries to prevent you from ending everything.
@@MenjonMZL Probably because Gwyndolin wants you to succeed to be a sacrifise for the Age of Fire, while Morgott wants the world to remain as it is, period.
Also Gwyndolin was always fray and had to rely on tricks and Magic, while Morgott just goes ham.
@@plinfan6541 True that. The systems they are protecting are just different. But both have to hide their identity to succeed in their mission and be accepted in their role.
i would say at least in morgotts case you can say the people in the capital and around benefit from his efforts to ensure relativ piece. its at least better as when a goverment system collapes entirely you dont want to life in such "systems".
He's more similar to Genichiro. You fight both of them multiple times and theyre both selfless and dedicated to defending their clan/kingdom.
i've always wondered why Morgott lost his horns after his death.
It must have been his incredible sacrifice for the Greater Will that allowed him peace in death.
Truly a king :,)
you can still prevent his reincarnation by the earthtree when you pick the frenzied flame or probably the age of star ending.
I think he completely exhausted his gift from the crucible, thus he has no omen markers left. Omens are born with the crucibles gifts, the golden order is racist against the crucible.
@@golmoshy I believe the Omen Curse is more so linked to the Formless Mother, considering even Morgott's ties to her (bloodflame in his sword, which is her power), but there are also Crucible signifiers. So is it one? Or both? If both, why?
One of my favorite details of Morgott is the evidence that he excised his own horns on the left side of his face. You can see where horns once grew and have been cut off, and since the item description of the Omen Bairn specifies that Royal Omen babies don’t have their horns excised, it’s likely safe to assume that poor Morgott did that to himself, maybe in a sad effort to “fix” himself.
It’s also in the same spot that one of his brother’s horns has grown directly into his eye (which is something that can happen to animals irl, actually), and that shows such a sharp contrast between the two brothers and how they chose to react to their abuse and otherness in totally different ways. Morgott is self-hating and constantly trying to appease his “abuser,” seeking love and approval that he’ll never get, going so far as to mutilate himself in order to fix what he thinks is abhorrent about him. Mohg “accepts” and “loves” himself to such a degree that he doesn’t even care when it is literally, physically harming him. Any adjustment to the parts of him that were degraded and not accepted by the Greater Will, even if those parts are HURTING him in a very literal way, would be, to him, more painful than the physical wound itself. He will not “apologize” for who he is.
Mohg chose to completely reject his “abuser” and radically embrace his otherness to the point of it being dangerous and destructive. He almost turned into a bit of a clinical narcissist, when you think about it. He decided to RADICALLY love himself to the point that he began to lack insight, had delusions of grandeur, and was dangerously uncritical of his own actions and how they might hurt people. He acts extremely entitled. He also seems to base a large portion of his cult around “love,” which I think supports this point. He’s all about trying to give himself and take from others the love he never got during critical childhood years, and in several pieces of dialogue the concept of love is conspicuously mentioned in the context of Mohg’s cult.
That’s like…incredibly deep and nuanced lore for a story you mostly scrape together from tiny cutscenes and item descriptions. It’s very well handled and true to life. It emphasizes the good and bad aspects of each of these potential reactions to an abusive childhood, and it illustrates in the end…none of them are really healthy. The child shouldn’t have been abused in the first place, and it’s very hard to come out of a situation like that into a healthy adulthood. You can become a self-hating, low self-esteem people pleaser who destroys his spirit in search of love and approval you’ll never ever find where you’re looking for it, or you can give *yourself* the love you never got to such a degree that you become a clinical narcissist and potentially propagate that same cycle of abuse onto others (it seems like Varré is desperate for Mohg’s love, approval, and attention and Mohg doesn’t seem to be giving it to him-he’s doomed to continue that cycle of abuse and neglect because of his severe lack of insight. He likely has no idea he’s even doing it).
Also, I wish you had addressed WHY THE HELL DID MORGOTT DIE WITH NO HORNS AND TAIL??? Was that representative of the Greater Will/Erd Tree *finally* approving of him? That the sacrifice of his very life was finally enough to be granted what he was desperate for right before death? Is it because he finally “accepted” himself to a degree and used his curse as a shield and weapon to defend the Greater Will, and that poetry warranted such a reward? Is it to illustrate his purity of soul and was more of a metaphorical message to the player rather than a literal physical change? This has been driving me crazy and I have to know.
Great video btw! ER has such incredible lore. I really didn’t expect such a great story and great characters going into it. I’m really amazed that FS was able to tell a story about a sensitive subject with such nuance and complexity with so little direct material for the audience. Things like the horn contrast detail I just mentioned between Morgott and Mohg…such a weighty message in a tiny detail in their respective models that is very easily overlooked as just a cosmetic choice but goes deep as shit when you sit and thing about what it’s communicating. Their clothing choices also communicate this same exact message, self-hate and punishment vs radical self-love, indulgence, and narcissism…but I’ll stop word vomiting about it now.
Holy fucking shit I’ve never made that connection with Morgott’s horns and it blew my fucking mind
This is an amazing comment. And hell yes. Building deep, nuanced stories and characters with incredibly little actual content or dialogue is one thing that Miyazaki and From are masters of.
When you put it like that... we've all known a few Mohgs lol
Late af reply but while i do not know why Morgott loses his omen-ness on deathbed, i think the message was always to say that "look at this king now, finally free from his blessings that others blinded him, and even in death he was blinded of that blessing."
Is the timeline of when the twins were banished clear? I'm not understanding it. Morgott fought in the giant wars and gave the Lyndell troops the torches to see the black knives after Godwyns assassination, yeah? So was he only reviled sometime after Godwyns death? Not since birth? Were his family or at least his parents always loving towards him and it was just the broader world that was taught to despise the omen and anything associated with the crucible--the source of life before the Erdtree? To me it seems premature to root the twins' characters in childhood trauma. Not sure.
In Tolkien works there is character named Morgoth who have many simillarities with Morgott , but their stories are opposite , Morgoth was created as Champion of order, but he turned on it and created chaos. He even joined forces with Giantic spider and destroyed two trees that had simillar properties to Erd tree.

Morgott to me it’s truly worthy on becoming elden Lord or if not being called it demi god. Once Morgott is defeated and lying on the ground... it looks like all his horns are gone now?
Not even cut, it looks like he never even had them. Was he "cured" from being an Omen in his defeat? is that even possible?
Or it is his dying spirit ?
I wondered about that myself. I feel like when he starts throwing up in the second phase, he's literally releasing his primordial life energy. It's mostly golden with a slight tinge of red. This color is noted in the gilded greatshield item to be the primordial matter that predated the Erdtree. Omens were implied to have been once celebrated for their resemblance to primordial life. Morgott laments that the thrones have been stained by his curse, but nothing happens afterwards to indicate that the thrones were "cursed" at all.
My personal headcanon is that he drained himself of his own vitality by releasing his life energy/"cursed" blood somehow, and as a result he shrivels up and loses all of the marks of that primordial life. And if you look closely at his head, he has several holes like the toothlike knots on his brow literally fell out or disappeared.
Yeah there is a comment further up ahead that said " maybe he was given a peaceful death by removing his curse" tbh i felt sorry for this character in a world and society that judges you by your looks shuns you away. Instead of you becoming the villain you became a hero in their eyes, he still respects his siblings ( he calls Godrick the golden) even if they
Only cousins or uncle. But in the end he really did defend the capital with everything he had giving his life up, maybe the greater Will saw this and respected his choice by giving him a peaceful death. Removing the horns and having his father ( godfrey) hold him one last time.
@@one_nut_wonder6931 If you look deeper into the lore you will realise that Morgott and the Omens where never cursed. Morgott is for sure my favorite character in the game. "He loved not in return, for he was never loved. Nevertheless, love it he did."
Recently started wondering if the Omen's "defects" were the result of another outer god's influence like the scarlet rot. Or at the very least they could be biological in nature and the fear of a potential outer god's influence is why they're so persecuted.
its likely they are related to the dungeater and his curse. the scarlett rot doesnt removes you from the standard reincarnation circle. omens dont appear in rot areas, also the creatures spawned by the rot seem to be these insectiod folks. like the one in the shack who wants you to help milicent, or the fellows in the area after the rotlake underground.
if I'm not mistaken the omens are blessed by the crucible
My guess is that the Omen "curse" could be related to the crucible energies (i.e the source of all life), similar to the misbegotten and the Crucible Knights, who were all shunned in the era of the Golden Order and considered to be too chaotic.
They seem to be a throwback to the crucible. The original form of the Elden Ring's power before the golden order and the Erd Tree. So, in a sense they are in fact blessed by the greater will, but in a way that is no longer to be excepted.

@@sugoi9680 no need to mock him
@@Radahn767 Just lighthearted. You spelt Radahn incorrectly though.
I love that even without knowing any of this lore, fighting him alone tells you so much about him. He fights like such an incredible warrior.
Every time I started the Morgott fight (not the Margit fight) I bowed down to him out of respect. This guy is certainly the best boss fight in the game. Unlike his brothers and sisters, he stood to protect the Erdtree, even though it hated him back. This guy earns my utmost respect. Amazing character
Definitely feel bad for him after learning his story and fighting as he says "The thrones stained by my curse, such shame I cannot bear, thy part in this shall not be forgiven" that hits very hard
The self loathing is sad
"He loved not in return; for he was never loved."
Had to pause the video, somebody pulled up and put tears in my eyes.
I fucking loved this guy, from the finesse of his attacks as Margit, to just the sheer thrill and hype of the fight against Morgott, absolute unit and his voice actor absolutely stole the show. Wish I could forget this game and play it all over again. Amazing video!
Suprised he never mentioned the character losing all of his growths once defeated. His body is human we he speaks to you in the end.
Morgott is probably my favorite demigod. If it was Radahn he fought in the opening cutscene, he also probably is the most powerful
More like rykard....... radahan would wipe the floor with morgott
@@Cyrus-rodn45 well the one in the opening cinematic looks a lot more like Radahn. Maybe it was younger Radahn, since Morgott is most likely a lot older, and by that point Radahn wasnt yet at the power level we see in game
@@makoto1234 radahan was always powerful, he was the 2nd most powerful of the demigods.... after Miquella
@@Cyrus-rodn45 thats fair, maybe im just biased towards Morgott since hes my favorite lol
@@Cyrus-rodn45 we know he wasn't always as big as he is now since he used to ride his horse normally and learned gravity magic to keep riding it. And unlike Melania he isn't referred to by anyone as being undefeated. No reason he couldn't have been beat by Morgott in his youth and then not been able to get payback once he reached the power we see now because of Melania's scarlet rot eating his mind.
Have it writ upon thy meager grave, felled by king Morgott, last of all kings!
I thought Margit would return to fight again after the first time, but I had no idea he would be so important. I thought he was, like other Omen, simply forced to fight for the golden order. To see him revealed as the dutiful king of Leyndell was unexpected, and amazing
That's low key brutally cruel to be fighting Morgott with the full Omenkiller set, Omensmirk Mask and Great Omenkiller Cleaver. It must enrage Morgott even more. It would have been awesome if there was a couple lines of extra dialogue when you fight him wearing the full set and using the weapon.
It wouldn't enrage him. As king of Leyndell, he had the power to put a stop to it, but he chose not to. What does that say about him?
@@TheSuperRatt he Just couldn't let leyndell be without defense
He is the definition of a person who was hated by everyone but he never hate anyone else even though he could have but atleast he died for what he believed in and wanted to protect . He is the coolest and one of the best characters of the Elden ring
He hates the Tarnished, and other Omens.
Found this by complete accident, and thank the almighty RUclips algorithm for it. Keep up the graceful work, this was amazing!
Thanks so much!

Incredible job telling the story, you earned a subscriber I cannot wait to hear the rest of the characters.
Margit's monologue after defeat is pure poetry
The Nights Calvary was such a missed opportunity. I'm aware that FromSoft have tried many times to make an enemy that follows you thru ought your story before (such as The Pursuer), but the weight and revelation of Margit the Fell, Head of the Nights Calvary being secretly Morgott, the Veiled Lord of Leyndel, would have had been extremely impactful if he had more presence thruought the land.
This could have been done in a number of ways, but having the Nights Calvary be named "Hands of The Fell" would've helped make their connection more notable, and Margits prescence as a separate identity from Morgott much more impactful.
These lore videos are excellent and so well written, they really summarize the games tidbits of info well while presenting the emotion of the lore in a great way. Can't wait to see more, fantastic
At first, I hated him for utterly destroying my underleveled ass several times. Now, after realizing he selflessly did his duty despite being showed no love from the world, I honestly feel bad and respect the hell out of him.
Him and radaghan are my most favourite characters if I could spare them I would but alas; the story must go on.
Something I just noticed watching this video, is that after you defeat Morgott his body no longer has the Omen horns and tail. Not sure what the significance of that is but I thought it was pretty neat, finally being freed of his curse after death
He isn’t actually cursed tho just brainwashed to believe he was, he’s actually blessed with aspects of the crucible a primordial form of the erdtree. The greater will and therefore the golden order don’t like omens and see them as a curse.
Morgott’s personality and role in the plot make him seem like a more mythical Stannis Baratheon. Both are utterly pitiless and unbending determinators who are obsessed with fulfilling their duty to the realm even when everything is going to hell and all their compatriots have either died or abandoned their duties in pursuit of their own personal power grabs. Both are the black sheep of their respective families with very few people who actually like them. Both are incredibly capable war leaders who participated in pivotal battles for the capital city. And last but not least, both are stubborn as hell, to the point where it gets in the way of them actually accomplishing their ultimate goals.
ER's story WAS written by martin, of course there is gonna be a character as great as stannis in it.
The funny thing is when margit dies it has a gold mist instead of a gray one like everyone else, just thought that was kinda interesting, great video btw
Thank you for the video- Really couldn't understand other lore videos explaining Morgott and his alter ego but this one finally made it really clear to me what his role was in this story and his overall character.
I always look up bosses lore once i feel i completed 70% ish of the game. There should be much more nice on this, great job.
He's one of my favorite characters in the whole game. What an amazing story they tell with just pieces here and there.
Morgott could never change the perception of the Omen without revealing himself as one, and he grovelled at the foot of the order, his abusers, both Morgott and Mohg have unhealthy obsessions with their abusers, but Mohg tried to get revenge, which is at least more admirable than begging for forgiveness
Very good video, and great delivery, I love that the video never sounded gimmicky like many other loretubers.
Well done video!
Morgott is probably my favorite of the bosses I’ve fought so far. Really fun fight, but also I gained a ton of respect for him after he died and I learned his true nature.
He is one if my favorites. I felt really bad killing him
Our Tarnished said, “Step aside, or be mow down.”
Morgott replied, “Nay” and our Tarnish took it personally.
Dude, such an awesome explanation and an even more beautiful story. Thank you for creating such amazing content 🤘🏼
Damn I was looking for some Morgott (my favorite FS character) gameplay for fun to listen to his voicelines and then I see someone made a lore video 19 minutes ago so now I just have to watch it lol what are the chances
Betrayed of kin and of fate. He abided, and even though he hurt his place was found among nobles. Truly Graceful and is Grace Given.
Great job on this video you put a great amount of work into this thanks!
Thanks, I appreciate it!
i find your videos much more concise and easy to digest rather than Vaati's videos as of late
I thought it was strange his horns disappeared after he was defeated. Do you think the erdtree removed them so he could be reborn? Or something else happened? Normally the omen can't die like the tarnished and can't return to the erdtree to be reborn
I love the fact that Nasgul looking guys were led by Morgot, uh I mean Morgott
One thing I find interesting is that his Omen horns and growths seem to vanish once he is defeated…
Oh man I totally missed the second Margit fight. I heard the voice, and some lightning bolts shot by me, but I thought it was coming from the lord inside the castle mocking me from afar and just kept racing towards the entrance.
love this character but also feels sad for him, love the explanation, immediately subcribed to your channel
My boi inherits his father's gigachadness and warrior's blood.
When i first beat him as margit, i knew he will come back. I even thought he might be the end boss. I was really dissapointed that he wasnt lol. Sickest Boss in any game by far
I love it that morgott smoked everyone and he was still chillin my the erdtree
If they ever make a show or a movie within this universe, I hope they make it about Morgott's life and make him the main character. I could see it being a really cool story about a tragic hero.
i hope hollywood. netflix or disney dont get the productionrights for that.

In the starting Scene we even see Morgott besting Radahn which might be why he is the one who reigns over the Capital since he is truly the strongest Demigod as he is if the goldeb lineage.
This radahn was small and young
@@miimiibeschde4818 No this is the radahn from the Shattering the same that fought Malenia and he was in his prime
@@cyberwar5949 He was smaller than morgott when margit won
So He's weaker, probably didn't even know gravity magic
Honestly Morgott is the best boss on the game for me. He's a gigachad who beat (albeit younger) Radahn, defended Leyndell for who knows how long, is the most fun boss (Radahn's nerfs made him a lot easier and I don't like Malenia's lifesteal)
I love the detail that these giant bosses wither down to normal human size when they are killed and their power has left them.
It was utterly heartbreaking when i realized Godfrey was holding his dying son in his arms. We denied him reunification with his family.
you mean dead son.
Of all the Demigods, Morgott stands as the most worthy to succeed Godfrey and Radagon as Elden Lord.
His tireless devotion to that which spurned is very existence, and still stood for the protection of others, is the most selfless path to take in life.
The PEAK of virtue.
One of the most interesting characters in the game. While it'd be easy to call his actions foolish when you know his full story, I'd say they were instead selfless. He did what he felt needed to be done for the greater good, with no regard for his personal feelings or how it would affect him. That is the very definition of a selfless act. Certainly makes a lot of sense why some random old seemingly crippled bastard absolutely hands you your ass in the beginning of the game. But what I think is most neat about him is that his being the first real hurdle to overcome in the beginning of the game kind of just goes right along with what he was meaning to do anyway.
To keep the unworthy away. Be it to keep weak tarnished from further feeding into Godrick's grafting. Or be it to keep the unworthy away from obtaining Godrick's great rune. By beating him there it proves to him that you're not just some random scrub tarnished trying to act like a hot shot. He underestimates you, as he's slain so many countless would-be heroes before you. When you beat him and eventually finally confront him again he knows you're not a tarnished to be taken lightly. So he takes the fight seriously and has to actually unleash everything he's got.
What an interesting piece of lore here. The Omen is a topic I'd love to hear more about.
He was basically an Uncle Tom. He had the power to free his people, but subjugated himself instead to the Order that exiled, and enslaved them. He's "selfless" in that he does everything for an Order that spurns his kind, but it's not noble or heroic. It's sad and pitiable.
Excellent vid! The game is so vast that I miss (and quite often get bored by) stuff like this.
I thought Ranni’s story was my favorite. That has now changed, thank you for the video!
I like how at the end of his battle he seems to be cured of his horns/curse. Like he was forgiven for fighting and sacrificing so much for his beliefs
This is a crack theory but does anyone else think the "Fell Twins" boss might be a younger Mohg and Morgott? One uses blood attacks and the other a curse-flame sword, they guard the divine tower of their homeland, they only exist in a weird alternate reality (maybe an illusion), and there's not a whole lot of other "fell twins" in the lore.
Wow...never thought about that. I like your theory
Him wielding the Anchor of the Elden ring is fitting. He protected the Erdtree and acted as the king of the Capital hence acting as the anchor of the golden order so it will not crumble. What a nice writing.
My random guessing theory is Morgott is known as "Grace-Given" (which is an odd title considering most anything in the Lands of Grace has well... that) is he was specifically given the Grace of Godfrey, which led to Godfrey getting banished along with his warriors.
(Yeah, yeah, I know Marika "dialogue" indicates she probably just took it as part of her nebulously inexplicable master plan, but there you go)

I feel like we can see the influence of G.R.R. Martin with the story of Mogott and Mohg.
Morgott reminds me of Jon Snow, hated by the world, yet ready to sacrifice everything to save it.
Mohg reminds me of Stannis and Renley Baratheon at the same time, turning his worship to a new, bloodthirsty and foreign God, and using his newfound power to try to start a new dynasty. Also, the only openly explicitly gay character in a from-soft game.
wait which one's explicitly gay? morgott or mohg?
@@melmon6716 Mohg, he wanted Miquella to be his consort. Starting his own dynasty with the power of a different outer God. More importantly he's a pedophile and sexual predator. Given he wanted to kidnap the forever child Miquella

@@marksimon2085 to think he's the brother of morgott :/

I would literally serve margott to put him on the throne rather than the tarnished, if possible.
In the end Morgott still serves the Golden Order and with him on the throne he would probably long to continue it. The natural flow of the world would contine to be halted and even more problems would arise from his reign. As much as i like Morgott, he wouldn't be fitting to be the next Elden Lord.
@@Smeik2901 I think in his last moments he talks about not being able to enter the erdtree, with the help of the tarnished he could do this and get the gold mask ending. Although you’d have to burn the tree. I’m not sure he’d let the tarnished do that.
@@centenodyllan at least not without evacuate the entire city beforehand.
Fighting Margit with the omen killer cosplay is just disrespectful
The fight against Margit outside the Capitol does demonstrate something else, that when we fought Margit before, it wasn't really him but someone that was being possessed by him. This explains why he wasn't killed in the first fight and why he's so strong in the second: We were never fighting the real Margit, just a shadow of him.
It’s still him lol, this comment makes no sense he doesn’t possess anyone margit the fell omen is just an alias he goes by so he can leave the capital and kill anyone that’s trying to get to the erdtree, when you fight margit your still fighting morgott it’s the same person not someone possessed lol just that by the time you reach the thrones he knows that shits got real now and unleashes his full powers to try and stop you he recanted his omen blood a long time ago and likely never wanted to use it ever again hence the reason he doesn’t use any of those other powers until you reach the tree and he knows he has to.
still him dude. this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever
Thought he was just some arrogant better than thou type, but turns out he’s a tragic Shakespearean figure. Good video.
Since there's thousands of people giving likes to comments defending his actions, can someone explain to me why is it good to defend an order than enslaved and treated like literal shit people because of a birth condition they can't control?
How is that good in any way?
Just cause you are committed to something it doesn't mean your re doing something good.
He just loves the golden order
Apparently Margit's warning was a reference to Mounted Knight NPCs that would roam around the map hunting the player at night, but Fromsoft seemed to have trouble with the roaming mechanic so put them in fixed points, and they became the Night's cavalry.
I only found out about this recently form a youtuber called zullie the witch
