In a meeting with the writers of Clone Wars, Lucas again emphasizes the need to suppress nature of the dark side and embracing the light. The balance is acknowledging two tendencies of the nature of the Force, and rejecting the destructive nature. He implies the suppression of the Dark Side was vital.
The Jedi were right, the Sith were wrong. We know there can’t be light without dark. That’s a fact. But George wasn’t saying the dark was needed, or necessary, but is a given. Balance always meant not to give in to the selfish tendencies of the Dark Side but embrace the light.
By the end of Return of the Jedi, everything is right in the world - until Luke fails to rebuild a meaningful Jedi order, The First Order reigns, and the Dark Side makes its presence known again.

Ironically Anakin pursued power and became a sith at least in part because he was seeking greater freedom-he felt restricted and inhibited by the Jedi, and he was haunted by his childhood experiences in slavery-and to free himself from fear of loss, another remnant from his troubled childhood. But by becoming a sith he found only slavery to the dark side and even greater loss.

That’s why in my opinion, count dooku was such a powerful character; he is able to use busted force abilities like more aggressive lightsaber forms and force lighting while having the discipline and control to not let himself get too corrupted by the dark side. I always found it funny that Plagueis and Sidious were so hung up on the idea that the Dark Side can be *Concentrated* , as if it was venom, by limiting the # of Dark Side practitioners.
Vitiate was *at least* as powerful as Tenebrous or Plagueis, yet the Sith Emperor lived and reigned at a time when powerful Dark Siders existed in the *thousands* !
Plagueis just comes out and states this rationale for the Rule of Two, but not even Bane offered anything resembling a factual basis for such a belief. His reasons for instituting the Rule of Two was simply a common-sense recognition that Dark Siders would always and invariably consider other Dark Siders rivals who threatened their own power.
Bane was just trying to prevent a repeat of the clusterfuck that was the Brotherhood of Darkness. (Ie: When the Sith become the enemy of good order throughout the galaxy in a *highly visible manner* , the Jedi are invariably given a mandate to direct the Reoublic’s resources against the Sith.)
The TLDR version? Bane’s Rule of Two was intended to ensure there wouldn’t be a horde of militant, highly competent/experienced Jedi Lords/Ladies to resist Sith aggression. All this “The Dark Side is more powerful when less people use it” is nothing but blind cultish mysticism.

    • @BlankEmporium
      @BlankEmporium Год назад +24

I think you misunderstood what Plagueis meant. I believe he wasn't so much speaking of an individual's power so much as one's knowledge. Knowledge in the Force in a very real way equates into greater power, and more Sith means the more spread out that knowledge will become, making each Sith far weaker than they could of been.

    • @shawnpanzegraf5642
      @shawnpanzegraf5642 Год назад +44

@@BlankEmporium How does that work? Less overall practitioners means less experimentation/innovation, and greater chances of a huge body of lore being lost at one time.
Plagueis knew such a loss of lore was possible, because Darth Gravid’s attempted return to the Light Side (And subsequent attempt to destroy all the Rule of Two-era’s accrued Dark Side lore) was passed down by Gravid’s apprentice (Who prevented a complete lore-blanking by killing her master.)
Plagueis was himself a researcher, so he should have understood all individuals doing “original” research are standing on the proverbial shoulders of their predecessors.
Even Caedus’s mistress, Lumiya, pointed out that the Sith are limited as much by their paranoia as any constraint of circumstances.
How do you reconcile all that with the idea the “Venom” is meant to represent lore, not overall power in the Dark Side?

    • @justinezekwelu3335
      @justinezekwelu3335 Год назад +7

I totally agree @shawn it only makes sense that the rule of two was made to limit the amount of craziness that would no doubt transpire like the brotherhood of darkness. All the venom talk is stupid, the force is the force. It’s not light or dark. Tbh I would even call the dark side “dark” I would call it the uncontrollable side of the force.
While the light side is the more explored controllable aspects (and mind you those controllable aspects are different for various ppls/species). That’s exactly why the Jedi aren’t even good. They just happen not to go to crazy vile every time the use the force, unlike the sith.

The Rule of Two has always been flawed it took 1000 years to gain 20 years of power, 130 years later Darth Krayt would cast aside the Rule Of Two rebuilding the Sith as One and proved arguably was as powerful as Palpatine, I mean he was the only Sith to literally escape and avoid death by WILLING himself back to life with Dark Transfer. The Rule Of Two is the legacy of a mad man who wished to never be forgotten atleast that's what I've come to view it as.
Arguably the force doesn't favor people based on numbers but devotion which is why I've always preferred Lord Momin's Philosophy on the Darkside of the Force.

More like an attempt to concentrate all knowledge and power in a single locus.
It's a way of forcing practicioners to strive for excellence and be the best they can be. The master owes his apprentice power and knowledge. The apprentice loyalty.
When either does not fulfill their side of the bargain they are executed. Thus the remainder gets stronger.

Wrong. Things as mindless as viruses, bacteria, fungi, plants, and insects still make choices - not simple reactions, but actual choices of what it interact with or avoid. When such thing are able to make decisions without a mind, it is proven that one especially does not need a "free"/enlightened mind to be able to make choices. One simply needs to be a living creature, and that only requires that you have a functioning body (not thoughts in that body's mind).
Living does not require concern. Regardless of whether or not you are concerned, you will still live. You have no choice in the matter, nor does any other living creature. Until you are killed (by yourself or someone else), you WILL live.
What you are referring (fight, fly, freeze, etc) to is not living - it is self-preservation, and self-preservation is optional. Preservation in general is optional. EVERYTHING one can do with their life and ability is optional. Only those who hold to concerns regarding their mind find their choices restricted. Giving up that freedom of mind/enlightenment gives up those restrictions as well, as one is not restricted by mental guardrails they have not put in place in the first place.

This is what Lucas has stated repeatedly too. Balance in the force is not balance between light and dark, it’s solely balance in the light.
The force IS the light. The ‘darkside’ is not a thing, an independent aspect of the force or a thing in itself. The darkside is the way one uses and explores the force. They embrace and encourage negative emotions, whereas the Jedi attempt to accept the darkness within them (and all other emotions), in order to process them out of the system (Lucas knows how the nervous system works in this way), and so are clear to be able to let the force flow through them,
The sith try and control and subdue the force - which the force itself tries to correct, it wants to stop people - like the sith - from corrupting the force, hence creating Anakin to oppose what Sidious and Plageuis were doing.
I know there’s lots of EU (or legends now) that interpret the force differently - which is great, and allows different philosophical ideas to be inserted into explanations/interpretations of the force.
But the force isn’t a concept that is really open to other interpretations other than it’s creator, if you want to look at it from the perspective of the person that created it.
So well this type of video, and others like it are great in bringing in various human philosophies into interpreting the force, ultimately it isn’t what Lucas intended when he came up with his creation.

You know I really want to have a canon version of the Je'daii. For over a thousand years this community existed, and it believed in balance, they were a symbol of hope, bravery, strength, and peace until its Order collapsed due to Extremists of the Light and the Dark growing in popularity leading to 25000 years of constant wars between the Jedi and the Sith. And now in the Ahsoka show, we have Ahsoka and Baylan, both who disapprove of Sith and Jedi traditions but lean towards an ideology. Baylan leans more towards the Sith ideology whereas Ahsoka leans more towards the Jedi ideology. We need more exploration of the motivation of the Sith from their perspective and the beliefs of the Father and his idea and perception of balance.

@@shubhnamdeo2865 I’m a big fan of all the EU stuff (or legends as it’s called now), but you have to remember that those books and comics were written by writers that had their own take on the force. And a-lot of those takes (like the je'daii), do not align with what George Lucas created; his view on the force, his explanation means that you cannot balance light and dark as they are such opposing ways of accessing and using the force that they can’t be used together.
Lucas states that balance in the force is the light. The darkside isn’t a thing in itself, isn’t an aspect of the force, but a way force users explore and use the force - they attempt to control and corrupt the force, bending it to their own will, and explore destructive powers fulled by concentrating and cultivating negative emotions when accessing the force.
The force has a will of its own though, and seeks to correct this corruption.
Essentially Lucas states that the force seeks balance by tying to rid those that try and control and corrupt it, as balance is balance in the light only.
Not digging you out at all, and it would be cool to see this type of interpretation on screen, but it would also confuse audiences by doing this (outside of books etc) as it is a view of the force that goes directly against what the creator intended - intended for audiences to understand the force itself, as well as George’s own personal views on life and how we process emotions. This is what informed his creation of the force and the Star Wars universe (it’s also tbf, why others interpret the force differently, as we all hold different outlooks on life, and people often draw from existing philosophy when coming up with their own interpretations.
This is cool, and part of why Star Wars, - and particularly the force - has different interpretations to it by fans. However, I do think it important to consider what the creator of it all states when consuming any canon material such as the films and these new Disney shows (let’s all ignore the sequel trilogy though as………well, has there ever been a bigger fuck up in movie history than that ! 😂🙌)

The flame in the void is a concept in the Wheel of Time novels.
There's a flame burning in a calm void in your mind. You feed your passions into this flame but contain it in the calm place. You fuel your focus with passions but through containment don't allow them to overcome you.
Sith and Jedi philosophies are the Yin and Yang, the active and passive which compliment each other.
Without their compliments, both paths lead to an end, whether ruin or stagnation.

Ahsoka was right to leave the Jedi order. This decision, in my opinion, demonstrated that there is a flaw in what the Jedi taught and believed. Ahsoka had the disadvantage (advantage?) of being Anakin's student. He was constantly emphasizing his desire to protect those he was close to. Ahsoka, in fact, was taught in the final finale episode of TCW, recently released, to defend against a massive clone attack. Anakin was making sure she had what she needed, because he already knew subconsciously, or through the force, what was going to happen, and he wanted to protect her.
Ahsoka, like Anakin, cared about her friends and had attachments, which was probably an error in training she inherited from Anakin. This was not allowed in the Jedi order. The Jedi were stoic, and attachment was not allowed.
However, Ahsoka had compassion for all life, AND she had deep attachment to her friends. That was the conflict with the Jedi teachings that drove her away. Anakin had attachment to his friends ABOVE the lives of others. He fell and became Vader because he was willing to sacrifice any other life to keep those he wanted to protect alive. This is an anachronism, and directly related to his desire to control (partly due to the lack of control he had as a slave).
Ahsoka, however, realized that all life was important, and to be valued. She did not have the traumatic upbringing that Anakin had. But she also cared about her friends and had attacents. In some ways, her views were more pure than those of the Jedi order. She had attachments, and love, but was able to see all life as valuable and not let her attachments take priority. Love, that's an important part of life. If you can't love, how can you truly value life.

Ahsoka is a copy of him in my view.
Luke's attachment for his friends and fear to lose them lead to fail Yoda's Test to stay passive (Empire strikes back).
He pursuits his dark side by saving his friends but he should have died fighting against Darth Vader.
Only Darth Vader's attachment and love for his son saved Luke.
Obi Wan, Yoda, Darth Vader and the Emporer maintained balance in the force.
      Luke was a disturbance.
Leia Organa's call for save triggered the failure and fall of Obi Wan.
Obi Wan has Sith in him like we all do.
He failed to train Anakin and lost his dear friend.
Yoda wouldn't go and save her.
      Stay passive.
I dont like the prequels, because a true Jedi like Yoda wouldn't go to war to save others.

Aggression is not bad trait, neither is selfishness just outright, there has to be a line drawn inorder to come to such a conclusion weither you were selfish or selfless.
The line is what people should hold at, is what I think the video is saying neither putting too much importance or too little importance on yourself.
The difficult part is where, when, and how should approach certain situations using these methods, weither it be by violence, Diplomacy, importance on yourself and putting importance elsewhere.

Correct. Jungian shadow integration revolves around confronting the worst aspects of yourself, "your shadow", and integrating them into your consciousness as a whole as a way of overcoming your ego. It's more about confronting the negative aspects of you, and successfully integrating them so that it serves the harmonious whole of your consciousness. He erred far more on the side of selflessness, balance, harmony, and humility before the Universal Consciousness/God/The All/whatever.

It may be in another dimension or galaxy, but it is still duality. Where there is duality, there is separation. When we become one with God, or the Force, or the Source, or whatever name each has for this, then we understand and feel that we are all ONE. When we finally feel and realize that each one is the Love that knows that is the Love already, the separation and the conflict ends.

Einzelganger, I may be too late, and I've no doubt that this will be both sappy and cringe, so apologies in advance for that. I merely wanted to thank you for this video, honestly and sincerely. I became fascinated with Sith philosophy during a period of self improvement in my life. It was Sith philosophy that led me to study Jungian psychology and real world philosophies, Nietzsche and Stoicism especially, in hopes of expanding upon it. Your videos were of particular interest to me at that time. It was also the Sith that made me change my goal of self improvement to self actualization. I fell off my path awhile ago, having entered a dark period of my life, and much of the knowledge I acquired has been forgotten, but I'm coming out of it and will find my way again soon. Like you said at 22:10, this path probably isn't the one that suits me, as my personal dark night revealed to me, but though the Sith, Jung and Nietzsche may no longer resonate with me, I think there's too much value in the knowledge they passed on to simply ignore. I don't intend to follow them dogmatically (I honestly believe that God, the divine, source or whatever word you have for it won't allow me to even if I wanted), nor do I believe it possible or have any desire to become a lighting wielding maniac, but I believe there are some aspects of their philosophy I can apply to better myself, and certain points brought up about master and slave morality to reflect on, though not believe entirely. Once again, sorry for the rant, but I've had to make due with links on the Sith Order reddit (don't judge me), and 2 videos on RUclips to feed my fascination of the Sith, a reuploaded video by Coterie, and an analysis on Kreia's philosophy. I never expected you to make a video like this, so this was nothing less than a very pleasant surprise and an absolute treat. 😁

Following the "jedi way" led me to stagnation and depression. I felt like I was spiritual, but there was a part of me I was repressing, the part that wants to express its will, to achieve, to gain confidence, grow, and become stronger. Repressing my desires, I realized, is repressing my humanity. Once I started to integrate this part of me, while always remembering compassion, love, and presence of mind, I started to progress. I firmly belief integrating both the "good " and "bad" part of ourselves is crucial. An example I always use is that for most of my life, I despised people who dressed well because I viewed them as vain and superficial. I thought clothes were simply functional. Turns out that not only do I like to dress well. I love it lol. I now see the value in expressing myself and standing out. I respect myself and want to look great. This is a much more nuanced view in my instead "you of dress good you vain". There really isn't anything wrong with dressing well. This applies to other things.

    Sith rules for life.
The strength to survive must come from within.
Dont count on others for help, they will always fail you.
The survivors are those who know how to look after themselves.
A sith doesn't concern himself with the opinions of lesser beings.
    As to emotions.
Use them. Dont suffer under them.
If something is getting you down, dont feel bad and retreat.
Get angry, then use that anger, draw strength drive and commitment from it, use the strength drive and commitment to achieve your goals.

Obviously they are both partially right. I struggled a lot mentally some time ago trying to understand how to reconcile these two apparent opposites of passion/rationality, risk/prudence and so on. How to choose between them, or how to reconcile such opposite things? Then it came into my mind that they aren't opposite at all, they are in fact complementary, and I thought of a simple metaphor: we just have to drive ourselves though the tortuous path of life, therefore we obviously need both the gas pedal and the breaks. We need passion to fuel our engine, or we won't go anywhere and just stand still, but we also need the breaks of reason and calmness for bending properly, for being cautious in difficult parts of the road and for ultimately not crashing. Who would be so crazy to drive a car without any fuel or without any breaks? Mastering this driving is the real indivual challenge I think, and it's what also Taoism ultimately tries to teach, but of course then socially and politically it becomes more complicated perhaps, even though democracy is also kind of based on the tension between these two forces in a way :)

George Lucas stated in “Empire of Dreams” that the Jedi Code was based upon the philosophical tenants of Buddhism and Stoicism. Also the Jedi/Sith are the Yin/Yang. Neither is all good nor bad. Extreme aestheticism leads to stagnation which is why the Jedi were so easily fooled. Their refusal to accept that they didn’t have all the answers led to their downfall. Mace Windu (when it’s suggested by Qui Gon Jinn that the individual he fought on Tattooine was a Sith) arrogantly states “I don’t believe that the Sith could have returned without our knowledge). Qui Gon Jinn on the other hand followed the living Force and not as Palpatine stated “the dogmatic ideals of the Jedi,” (when speaking to Anakin upon revealing his identity as Darth Sidious).
Eventually Luke Skywalker saw that neither of the two codes were balanced. The Jedi encouraged love while forbidding attachment, yet their attachment to their ideals is what caused their downfall. The Sith craved power for its own sake by any means necessary even if that means destroyed the psyche (as in Anakin’s actions at the Jedi Temple) and Palpatine’s patricide before becoming a Sith apprentice. In the now non-canon novels (specifically the Yuzon Vong war) Luke teaches his students both disciplines but warns them of extremes which will lead to their destruction. In the Clone Wars we meet the Father, Son and Daughter who epitomize the different sides of the Force and the balance that must be maintained between the two.

And the Universe presents its subjects with threats whether or not they rise with initiative to meet them. The Yodas of the Jedi order can sit and pontificate in their chamber on Coruscant about the “dangers of the passions” under a fabric of protection provided by an Empire whose leaders are Sith. Only one of the “two sides” of the force is proactive; the other is reactive. One comes first, always has and always will. The other must only ever live in its shadow. I’ll allow you to guess which one is which.
Don’t get me wrong, Palpatine _was_ cruel, manipulative, and maliciously evil: not just evil as in wilfully and potently destructive (passionately destructive for destruction’s sake), but _maliciously evil_ as in intentionally targeting creative and vital subjects for destruction simply to relish in their anguish (Anakin for one, Luke later on). The destruction of the good for the sake of the act itself while relishing in that very act- Palpatine was a sadist by definition. He was cunning, deceptive, ruthless, and delighted in using others to extend his own political and effective powers. He was a manipulator and an egoist, a “narcissist” of a kind, and insatiably evil. And yet, without him the Jedi would have nothing to do but to sit cross-legged in their throne room staring gormlessly into Coruscant’s cloud-scattered and sun-bleached vistas for ever more, or stealing bright young boys from the arms of their beloved mothers only to treat those boys with suspicion and derision, perhaps fulfilling the very prophecies they hypocritically lament?
The Jedi are pathetic nihilists without the Sith, yet destructive hypocrites when fighting them. The irony is Palpatine- I mean palpable!!
The only reason western audiences so blindly accept the Sith and Empire as the bad guys is because we’ve become so dispassionately nihilistic that we are already effectively monks- thus, only a “good guy” practicing a Buddhist’s ascetic life-denial appeals to our contemporary sensibilities.

The reason I think that is because both good and evil move the world, and sing a story together. The four dispositions after it are parasitic, and rely on the motions of Good and Evil. And parasites are the worst, because “if the host dies…”.

A mixture of the Light and Dark Side of the Force is needed. THAT is true balance in the Force. This is why both orders nearly died out. They both stubbornly refused to adapt and acknowledge the entirety of the Force. The Jedi of the Old Republic gave into their own beauracracy, contempt, and ego. The Sith gave into their insatiable hunger for power and their stubborn behavior. Both orders chose to deny the other side of the Force they followed. The Jedi suppressed all emotion and any personal happiness, which is eventually what drove Anakin Skywalker to turn to the Dark Side. The Sith, on the other hand, embraced all passions and emotions, let their emotions and passions consume them and use the Force and their abilities for entirely selfish or sinister reasons. In short, I believe both orders represented the Light and Dark Side, but to unwavering extremes. By acknowledging your emotions, but not letting them control you, could one truly find balance in the Force, and that trying to quantify the Force into a black-and-white reality is not really the true nature of the Force.

It's good to use your pain for growth, but personally I find that focusing too much on your pain can do more harm than good and make you miserable, ultimately taking you off your purpose. You should learn how to find peace when your pain isn't needed to push you forward, what's on your mind is what you'll eventually become.
I also have yet to do this, but I figure racking up experiences, good or bad will also propel you forward and give you more of a reason to pursue your purpose, whether it's talking to women, building your business, getting your dream job, etc, pain or happiness, guide your emotions toward what you really want to do.

I find I am a mix of both, case in point:
There is a ton of value in taking a more targeted approach to helping others. Instead of spreading yourself thin trying to help people in mass at the expense of your own well being, you should learn to draw your power from yourself & take care of yourself, doing so allows you to hone your skills to help others to the max & live a good life on top of it. You'd start by offering a lot of dedicated help to a smaller number of people that intrigue you, though you can eventually achieve mass influence using this approach as well. After all, the human mind can only function at its best if you aren't being weakened by self neglect & ceaseless busyness. The human mind operating at a high capacity is essential if you want to do more than simply stabilize things, you need your mind to be able to aim higher and change the sucky systems that nobody is really happy with. Similar applies for being able to take risks; you don't want to get greedy by taking the same foolish risks over and over again, but if you stay super inhibited & safe forever, not only will you be kept out of trouble, you will also be kept out of life.
Also remember that a victim expecting heroism at great expense to the hero is also a form of selfishness. Not to say that they are necessarily wrong for wanting it, but it could reasonably be argued to be dubiously moral. A good person wants others to live good lives, including their heroes. If everyone was giving everything they had to eachother Jesus style, you gotta wonder if that means nobody would get to enjoy the things being given, and how bad the cultural shame would be for those who want to keep something nice for themselves.
The Sith's take on passion being necessary & a component of power is a very wise one, passion is tied to potency/effectiveness, it helps your attacks pack a little more punch and aids you greatly in competition settings. Granted, some negative or super concentrated forms of passion serve as a distraction. Skill is something the jedi would value, skill can contribute to potency, but potency doesn't require skill.
The Sith are also right to rise above the control of others as much as possible, relying on other people's validation becomes near worthless past a certain point.
Their distain for the weak & desire to keep others down is a trait that they can easily shoot themselves in the foot with. People with this mindset tend to be bad at seeing how their attempts to sabotage others ends up undermining their own interests a lot of the time. Though if what they really desire the most is just to enslave others for the sake of powertripping, they may just give this a blank check & be fine with the increased risk of being taken out by their numerous enemies.

No such thing as a gray force user. It is ultimately a binary choice, you either follow the will of the Force or you disregard the will of the Force and follow to your own whims. To do both is to contradict the law of non-contradiction. In the words of the Islamic Philosopher Avicenna:
“Anyone who denies the law of non-contradiction should be beaten and burned until he admits that to be beaten is not the same as not to be beaten, and to be burned is not the same as not to be burned.”

@@epistemo3442 I know this isn't really part relevant to what your saying, but what if I was a force user in a wasteland where Evil and Unlawlessness exists as it is everywhere in the land and I give in to my own anger not out of bitterness but rather to Utilise it to protect the ones whom I love or those who can't protect themselves and to banish those who are the ones causing evil towards the Land?
What do you call that kind of force user does that align to anything light or dark?
I'm not trying to be a contrarian or anything I'm just curious.

"We Sith are an unseen opposition. A phantom menace. Where the Sith once wore armour, we now wear cloaks. But the force works through us all the more powerfully in our invisibility. For the present, the more covert we remain, the more influence we can have. Our revenge will be achieved not through subjugation but by contagion.”-Darth Tenebrous to Darth Plagueis.

At the same time eyes filled with rage can break lots of obstacles. Especially when this rage is controlled and used to do some action. I felt those rage flashes and this power is like feeling bloodlusted. If not controlled, it can have some negative consequences.

You are weakling that's why, you watch maybe just one Starwars video and don't even bother to doubt your knowledge and the Einzelgänger, Einzelgänger is a human just like you,but because he may be a RUclipsr, you foolishly believe that what he says is fact because it sounds logic but isn't logic in the context of Starwars.

It would be amazing if you analyze in the same way "Avatar: The Last Airbender". I guess this cartoon had the influence of Star Wars and, moreover, it considers the duality of owning a power and different aspects of ethics.

I really like this mix of stoicism and Buddhism. You did well in explaining this theory. Great job!
Ps. From this I’ve learned that ATLA did the same with fire and air bending. Fire needed emotions to drive it. Air bending needed a peaceful alertness to “go with the flow”. It’s also cool that it proved the sith point of working together vs. only one harnessing total power. It affects and distorts the natural balance. Ironically, I think Zaheer was the most neutral airbender in the entire story.

People really do not understand what evil is and if you don't understand something you can't fight it.
