    The conservative book-banners broadly consider any LGBTQ content "pornographic", and any books that discuss the struggles of minorities as "racist, or damaging to white people". Explaining it objectively, because Jessica didn't mention this. These are the most common reasons why they want these bans.
    This is christo-fascism and discriminatory in my opinion.

    • @CatCaretakerID
      @CatCaretakerID 14 дней назад +8

      This is true. In the library I worked in we would find the objectionable books, everything from LGBTQ books, to books about Trump that they objected too (not favorable to the man), to books on climate change, etc. hidden around the library or missing all together - because some prejudiced yahoo would hide or steal them. Causing staff to waste a ton of time trying to locate the book for a patron who put the book on hold or just wanted help finding it on the shelf. These are also the people who object to Winnie the Pooh because the animals spoke as if human. Some people really need to get a grip!

    *Their claim about pornography in these books is a LIE!* It's about time that publishers made this move. I worked in a public library for nearly 10 years in a state where library workers can be arrested for providing "inappropriate books" to children. The library I worked in left those decisions to the parents, which is where this belongs, not in the courts, and not by banning books. Parents can object to as many books as they want - just don't check them out. But public libraries serve the entire community - so why should other patrons be restricted by the choices of these narrowminded, lazy parents who don't want to take the time to explain things to their child but would rather keep them in some imaginary cocoon where their children are only exposed to the limited things their parent wants them to see. I can't help but wonder how those children are going to function in a world that will leave them behind, because they have no understanding of how others might live. Can you say CULT mentality?

    There are plenty of books that are pulled for "social content", i.e.: Duval County, Florida, has banned 176 books from their schools. This includes picture books [k-3gr] about Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Jim Thorpe, and Roberto Clemente . Most of the Banned Books present a non-white or"ethnic" cultural narrative, show a historical perspective or tell a story about someone in history [ Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman]. If a parent doesn't want their OWN child to read a certain book it has always been the case to let the librarian know.....no one forces any child to read any book. But, don't decide what MY kids can read. It is censorship plain & simple. It is all over FL & other states.

    That law is a direct effort agains against freedom of thought which should be in constitution. An action against freedom of thought is even more serious crime than limiting freedom of speech as it enables attacks directly against basic rights like freedom of voting which is a subset of freedom of thought. There is something very dodgy going on with that medieval book ban. How those book burners like their children to start get information about sex when they come in to that age? That age is long before they are supposed to get married. It should be well defined well meaning educational route instead of every individual being left alone with their rapidly changing self image. And not to make thing too easy each person's sexual substance is unique.
    Those books are very good way to get grasp what it is about and what humans think and feel about it.
    Now instead of that extremely crucial true and decent information affecting for rest of their lifes children are thrown into hands of criminals operating for example in social media. Or pornographic content in internet. And without any tools to deal with it.
    How can you think that parents could be any better than the law makers who are supposed to be high professionals making things happen?
    That is quite a crime of neglience right there by Florida law makers which they pass to parents.
    It sounds like they don't have the guts to deal with the issue in a proper way to create an education program to help children to meet the tsunami and the easiest way to deal with this nuisance is to make a law that bans everything and outsources the "problem" to random group of people who have no qualifications whatsoever to act on it.
    But those lawmakers are themselves products of that taboo, so how could they speak constructively about it? They lack jargon and the easiest thing to do is stick your head in the bush i.e. ban the blue sky.
