Garrett AT Max vs AT Pro & AT Gold - Hot Mineralized Soil Deep Depth Test Review

  • Опубликовано: 3 окт 2024
  • What is the deepest Garrett All Terrain metal detector?
    The test was conducted in extremely hot soil.
    AT Pro ground balance: 93
    AT Gold ground balance: 85
    AT Max ground balance: 95
    AT Max w/ NEL Storm Coil: 97
    The AT Max was designed to operate in both Conductive environments (saltwater beach) and Highly mineralized soil. The AT Gold is not recommended to saltwater environments.
    The AT Gold is designed to recover small targets (gold) in high mineralized soil (gold field). I wanted to know if the AT Max can hang with the Gold in hot soil.
    There's a white golf tee marking each signal. We operated each machine in the same manner. We swung the coils over the targets from the same orientation.

      @@thehooverboys Got my new max in and for 2 weeks have been watching every tutorial youtube I can find on it. I am having problems getting the chatter and VDI to tame down. I have tried it on custom mode, Iron descrim 25-35 and knocked back 2-3 bars on sensitivity yet it still shows crazy VDI #'s on almost every hit. No EMI, cellphone nearby. Cable wrapped over top and snug. GB often & Plugged in good. It will jump from 20's,30,70 sometimes even 90's on the same hole. I tried everything. Can you help with video on settings? I love my new AT and the depth jsut want to get the signals lined out better. Thanks for any help you can give. :)

      @linr2870 5 лет назад

      Well the Max was a total failure sadly. Even 2x back to garrett repair crew (great folks BTW) Could not get it to shut up and settle down on jumpy VDI even a 6" depth. Oh well.

    I’ve owned my AT Max with factory and the smaller Garrett coil for almost 2 years and I have never brought the machine outside/never used. I have watched all the instructional videos and still have no idea what to do. I can take a motor out of a car and replace it with no issues, or rebuild a computer, but for some reason this thing either confuses or scares the crap out of me on proper use. Idk blame it on my OCD!!
    Great video👍🏻👍🏻

    Fantastic job of comparing them Kurt thanks if nothing else you made me feel a whole lot better about buying the AT Gold instead of the Pro. This is the first time I have seen a true head to head between the Pro & Gold. I think most of us really appreciate the fact that you are not being directed by Garrett, simply giving your honest opinion, for this thank you very much.
    I know the Max is going to be an awesome addition to my arsenal. When and if you have time could you entertain us with a follow up to this video with one on what they do with the trash and more common targets. Thanks again GL&HH

      Leon, What is it that you knew all along? That the AT Gold is excellent? or not as good as you thought? I need to know what you mean because I am about to buy an AT Gold, or should I get the Max? I intend to go for the small Gold nuggets in the Golden Triangle here in Australia. I'm not a coin or relic searcher.

    • @corvusmoonpottery
      @corvusmoonpottery 7 лет назад +1

      That the AT Gold only 'LOOKS' like the AT Pro - In operation and recovery speed it's a much better machine. That's not saying it goes much deeper than the pro (except in all-metal) but In dirty / iron-infested home sites, it's crispness and speed kind of makes the AT Pro look like a sad cousin....Just my 2¢ worth... I'm looking forward to the Max but it'll be a year or so before I can get into one. At least all the bugs will be worked out by then ;-) - From everything I've seen the AT Max edges out the AT Gold just enough that I would wait for it if I were you...

    Much better test than the last one , even tho as detectorists we all know fresh buried tests are different results than original dropped depths, but still gives a good comparison amongst the other series, the max seems like it will hang with the big boys sort of speak , they are rugged machines and light weight and reasonably priced , good job on testing each one , maybe should do a nail or pulltab at the same depths along with the coins you buried, would make for a more interesting comparison

      I have volume control on my AT Pro...It's in the headphones, LOL!, which I almost never take off. When I'm beaching it and around people, I always wear the headphones to pretend I don't hear, "If you find a gold ring, it's mine," or "Did you find anything good, ?" for the ten thousandth time. Sometimes I will stop and chat with people who are serious in order to promote the hobby, but for times that I'm not around people, I skip the headphones and like the loudness to overcome wind noise.

    I was told by Garrett that every time you change coils or batteries on the pro that you should reset to factory settings. Hold the coil away from any metal and turn the machine on holding the power button until you hear two beeps. This is not in the owners manual but from one of the techs.

    Comparing "Within" the brand.... All in all, none of the machines get put in the attic. Stability in the bad soil, ya, there was plenty of that and makes it very tough. Freshly buried targets, impressive, separation seemed good. Audio modulation (different than the Whites) for sure. Kurt you make it tough for a "Other brand user" to stay away from the Garrett AT pro series.
    Great video, you and the HB's, The friends you have make on the east coast have done a lot for Kellyco, Garrett's and I expect all the dealers. The time and effort you have put into the hobby is great. I'd hope with your honest evaluations your compensated, even if that wasn't the intention.

      I agree Don and I believe Kurt is being very helpful which is much appreciated. These days with the Internet/ RUclips the hobby has exploded. The honesty, the talent in the video's sells detectors, can't help that. I hope the hobby and promotion don't get to close together. Hard to do, Isn't it? I'm sure you tested each one fairly, but in the video I'd like to have seen you wave across each target while raising the gold until it wouldn't signal. On the video it seemed as if you raised it 2 inches and stopped at that point. I'm getting the gold because of where I live but I like the max sound better then the gold. It sounded crisper while the gold had a squeak sound. I appreciate the test and I'm sticking with the ATGold. Thanks.

      Agree. When I call Garrett and get transferred to talk to someone about when it will be released and I will get my order, I get the run around. This is unlike Garrett! I work in manufacturing, so they should just speak my language or put it in layman's terms for all to see. What's the harm in telling people exactly what they're doing? Tweaking the Z-Lynk system? Cool. Making PCB adjustments? Ok. Held by subtier parts suppliers? I get it. Just tell us what the H is going on. I'm prepared to hang on until SEP, but then I am going to lose my patience.

    • @thehooverboys
      @thehooverboys  7 лет назад

    • @celticmandoplayer

      That works for me when others bail outta their orders....just puts me that much higher on the list. To me, it goes back to that old adage of do you want it fast or do you want it good? I'm glad that they pulled it back from the original release to do some more improvements. I had to wait almost 6 months for my 4Runner TRD PRO (and with that, not knowing for sure if my dealership would actually get one...you can't order one, only put in a request because it's so limited). I'm bouncing off the walls waiting for my MAX, but I know that I will actually get mine. And hey, that'll be a worth the wait.

I had a really good day today digging two Silver Quarters 1940 and a 1953 four clad dimes, 7 clad quarters and 9 clad pennies. I didn't use the AT Pro today, I used my White's DFX 300. The 3030 is fun for coin shooting. Heavy unit though. The Deus is King of weight. I love it in the woods and open fields. The Max just fits my style for all around Detecting. I prefer the sounds of the Max over the ctx & Deus. The Max with the 5x8 Coil feels like swinging a broom stick. All great machines

    Great video good info I started metal detecting 4 years ago my first metal detector was the ace 250 and bought a 9/12 coil and found a lot of silver coins and 18 rings and a 14k rope chain 24inch long .well as I really love metal detecting I went and bought the ace 400 and used it just for the summer as it's a new metal detector and yes it's a good metal detector for people that are new ..anyway so holidays pass and my girlfriend that I love dearly bought me the AT max yup I can't wait to use it as I live in Massachusetts so still cold I do have a open window for Saturday as it will be 50 degrees on February so yup I think am taking the bad boy out for a run to see how it works I love the wireless earphones no wire is a plus and led light a nother plus and I bought the battery pack so 40 hours or so and I have a battery charger pack that I'll carry in my Garrett back pack that I got for free when I bought the ace 400 as I love it I also have both pinpointer the black Garrett and my newer AT pinpointer and man I love that orange carrot pinpointer but what I really love is I have both pinpointer and at max for lakes water proof and now if I am metal detecting and it rains I don't have to worry about my metal detector getting wet ..what do u think about the AT max with a upgraded coil like a 10x14 nel or the 13x14 coil on the max or should I leave it with the stock coil I use my metal detector more on parks school grounds and some time beach and lakes ? Thanks for making a good video as I don't believe in air test ground test is better I think air testing a metal detector is a waste of time but that is just me ..

    • @thehooverboys
      @thehooverboys  6 лет назад

      The stock coil is great on the Max. Everyone should have a small 5x8 Coil for separation at those iron infested old home sites and a bigger coil for surface coverage/depth for big fields. I run the NEL Tornado Coil. The Thunder in another great option. Good luck

    The AT Max chatter is horrible! Even after you ground balanced it still chattered over quiet ground. It seems to be just a AT Pro with higher gain. I’ll take a few less inches for the quieter AT Pro anyway.

  • @livewithnick
    @livewithnick 7 лет назад +3

    Is it me or is there not much depth difference at all between the three? I didn't see a better response on the real coin piece by the Gold or the over the Pro and not a lot better from the Max. The silver quarter I did see more of a difference but not a big difference. They both appeared to be hitting it the same. I've got both the Gold and the Pro and in my ground one is as deep as the other. I'll still get the max because of adjustable volume and I love Garrett machines. Not because of the depth difference though.Love the channel and appreciate the comparison.

    Kurt I know you said forget the display listen to the sounds. I have never used a machine with a all metal mode before and my question is under normal or average hunting conditions in the all metal mode does the VDI give you some idea what kind of a target you might be over. The sounds in all metal mode to me anyway sounded the same for everything just a bit louder for some of the targets. I know your motto is dig it all and it looks like in all metal that might be what a person will have to do. I have a Ace 250 and a A T Pro and plan to get a A T Max whenever Garrett releases it. Thanks for the great videos

    • @thehooverboys
      @thehooverboys  7 лет назад

      All metal mode doesn't have a high tone. Mid tone for every target. You can run iron discrimination with the Max in all metal. You will have TDI numbers. Of course the deeper the target the less accurate the numbers will be. If it's deep and you question a signal. I dig it. HH

      The Max is 13.6 khz. The Pro is 15 khz. The Gold is 18khz. I've hunted with the Max in iron. The Gold was my iron machine. I haven't put them head to head. The Max handles iron without a problem so far.
