Seriously idk why tf is it such a secret, ive been searching for some proper instructions on how to get to the timing tensioners for 2 years now with no luck
Thanks for sharing this video. Do you think it would have still been enough space to replace the chain guides with that access or removing the trans would be a must? Thanks again
@speedlinegarage just tensioners? Ok I would like to replace the tensioners on my A6 2012, chain rattle every morning, do I need to remove the supercharger and valve cover to replace the upper tensioners? Thanks
Oxygen sensors are in the way where the cover is covering the valve to get the 10mm bolt out by the oxygen sensor is it better to just pull the engine I have a 2014 s4
@@jrproductions9820 after some research as well as attempting myself it’s safe to say it’s impossible lol. You’ve gotta move the cats to remove the shields properly as well as the combi valves! Taking the opportunity to install test pipes while I’m in there.
You fooled me - there is a third bolt at the heatshield that is sooo unable to reach. And this bolt is so useless, they just put it in there so you have to pull the engine i guess.
@speedlinegarage Normal a6 c7 from 2011 but its the same engine. I mean, two bolts where enough for that shield. no reason for the third bolt at a place where you can’t reach it. Engine pull for one bolt. Edit: I was able to remove the screw (and will never put it back) by removing the wheel arch liner and accessing it from the side with an extension including a joint after I had previously viewed the screw with an endoscope. Now the sheet metal is loosened, but you cannot remove it. But you can now move it freely and you can now get to the last screws.
Great video that helps me to change my q5 upper timing covers
This is great. Will probably be my Saturday and Sunday. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, glad i found this video. I need this BAD. Shop is charging me $1000 for this job lol
Great video! I was debating on doing it but now that u were able to show me what the back side of the s4 looked like ima be good Togo!
Did you do this on a s4
Good way to get to the Cat as well! Thanks!!!
Would have been a good video if you actually show how to do it. Specially on the left side.

Thanks for sharing this video. Do you think it would have still been enough space to replace the chain guides with that access or removing the trans would be a must? Thanks again
Front rear upper covers you can change tensioners and thats about all. To do guides and chains you’d need to remove engine and separate it front trans
@@speedlinegarage Thanks for getting back to me on this. Much appreciated

What do you use to seal it? Also, do you remember the torque specs for the bolts? I can't seem to find it anywhere
How do u remove the combi 5:44 valve cover on passenger side i removed both bolts and the cover just moves side to side

Is it possible to remove the combi valve with cats still in place on B8 S4/C7 A6?
That’s a great question, I could not get that passenger side convi valve heat shield

Awesome video I think I need to do this on my s4 on passenger side(uk) what did you use to reseal the cover?
Regular RTV.. i will see about filming my reseal of these. (RTV- Black)
what silicone did you use and what was the the torque spec ?
Great tutorial ty
Do you recommend replacing timing covers or just reseal the old cover?
@@ivanpulido2368 if you’re careful pulling them then there is no need to replace them
@ I appreciate that, and also are the oem timing covers plastic or are they metal
I was told you had to pull the engine to replace the timing chain, would I still be able to do so using your method?
Unfortunately no. You have to pull engine to do chains but not if you’re just replacing tensioners which is what people mostly do.
@@speedlinegarage Thank you 👍
Is this applicable for the the A6 C7? My Passenger side is leaking
Is it possible to access and replace the covers on a b8 s4 in a similar way?
Everything is possibly but VERY difficult. Cats should be removed
Hwo did you reach the EGR valve to remove the bolts? I have a audi a6 c6 2.4 2007 and I find it hard to rech.
Ever had issue with CAT being way of removing the valve? Doing one and CAT is so close I cannot get tool on the torx screws for the valve.
Sorry, mine is 2012 A6.
I don’t this is possible with a b8 s4 since the combi valve bolts aren’t accessible without removing the cats
You are correct
Are the timing covers coming with a gasket or silicone needs to be used?
no gaskets. RTV thats oil safe
Thank you appreciate it.
Do you have the RTV part number by chance
how much did you charge for the reseal?
What car do you have?
On C6 A6 it took around 3-4hr for both sides
