Great video that helps me to change my q5 upper timing covers
(2014 Audi Q5 2.0T 160K miles) Interesting stop gap rig. I had a similar issue, running rough with the P2187 code, so I spent the hour and replaced my PCV Valve, car ran smooth upon installation of the new part, but the next morning when I cleared the code, the car ran terrible, bucking, cutting out, (until the reached normal operating temperature, then it leveled out and ran fine), also got the P0300 misfire codes, took it to the dealer for an analysis, they said blown out rear main seal, similar that what you're talking about. Instead of the rear main seal sucking in air, mine appears to be doing the opposite, the air or "exhaust type" gas is escaping from the seal, does this make sense to you? Would your temp repair stop this issue? As a side note, there was a comment about taking care of your vehicle with regular service visits. This is my wife's car and It got regular premium dealer service by the numbers until it's warranties expired @ 138K miles. The PCV valve is a critical part, (since it's failure will take out your rear main seal) and was never part of a service change interval, nor were ever informed about what could happen if we didn't just swap it out with a new part within a certain mileage, and Audi had to know about this issue. I was taken by surprise by this part failure and collateral damage, AUDI should have warned customers, this could have been prevented by a $100 part swap, now the dealer wants $8000 for the repair.
@@brettkramer so yes as idle PCV system creates suction (vacuum) so if your RMS has failed then it would suck unmetered air through it. Once you start driving vacuum turns into crankcase pressure and will potentially leak oil as well as crank pressure through RMS. With this (hack) i made youre not going to suck in unmetered air at idle therefor not causing your car to run rough or throw check engine light. This is NOT a fix but rather patch to help you pass smog / inspection. I did it on my dads car and going 2 years strong now.
@@speedlinegarage Wow, interesting stuff, thank you again for your help and the informative original post !
I just did this to my Q5. How many miles did you put into it before removing engine? Hopefully no downside to this besides a little oil residue or smell
My man! Thank you!!! I'm leaking oil somewhere I don't think it's the rear main seal I think it's coming from the timing cover case. I have a 2011 Audi A4 with the same engine, and what would happen is when the car was very cold it would run and misfire and feel like it's want to stall out but the minute the car was warmed up it would run great I did your method I blocked the tube and I have had zero issues and no flashing check engine light.
what's the part called?
At 00:52 what is the cable you touched that is resting on top of the engine that rests near the t30 bolt for the ignition rail. ???
@@blakelarsen636 outlet for PCV?
Is that the pcv where the valve is basically a regulator, meaning it can only draw in so much air regardless of where it pulls it from. So opening up a leak at the rear main shouldn't have any effect on how much air the pcv can draw since it's regulated by a valve and not the amount of available air. Just asking. But if there isn't a "valve" then disregard my question because it's no longer valid.
My 2012 q5 2.0 camera and sensors just stopped all of a sudden . Parking button light flashes like yours. Would be the same cause as yours? Thank you
I just wanted to update my comment for everyone else and say there are two speakers if you front and rear sensors. The rear sensor is on passenger side right behind the small side window in hatch. You’ll be able to tell which one is bad by going to your settings and adjusting volume for front and rear . Which ever one does t work is bad one .
Unfortunately bad oil quality... Only with good quality oil can save the damage of balance shafts.. Motul 300v 5w40 Red line 5w40 Ravenol rup 5w40
Is running it on 100% bad? Do these DRL lights go out bad after a while or?
Did you have to replace all aluminum bolts?
@@narrinderjhawar3891 i didnt but you can. Mine were not aluminum. Standard hard bolts
Thanks very much!
I have a 2006 Nissan frontier with original rims and they need some cleaning. Tried orange degreaser, jay Leno tire cleaner, armor all etc. cleaned up very little. Wanted to try easy off like you but afraid it'll strip off the shiny coat. Any feedback appreciated and thanks for the video
Most wheel cleaner has sodium hydroxide as its main active surfactant, which is the same active ingredient that is in Easy Off, although easy off definitely dilutes it. Just get a really concentrated wheel cleaner with sodium hydroxide that actually works, and doesn’t have ingredients that will cook your wheels finish. Iron remover can also help, it is very safe on surfaces because it only reacts with rusted metal, freeing it from a surface. In this case, the “dirt” you see is rotor and pad material that is essentially baked into the surface. Since it is primarily iron, a good iron remover will do wonders.
so i can’t remove my combi and the heat shield because 1 bolt the cat is in the way. i have to do mine on the drivers side
I was lucky to be able to remove it with 2 bead buster bars at the end of the balance shaft. Great video guys. Thanks!
Don’t do this! Just don’t.
The other problem with the drains over time the hoses shrink on length and pull out of the rubber where they pass into the body to go out to drain. I'm currently dealing with short hoses leaking water into the body at the bottom connection.
Great video! Just needed this to see where the hoses are on mine. Unfortunately looks like someone has tried to do a repair on mine previously and used some sort of silicone to stop the leak which has obviously failed.
How do u remove the combi 5:44 valve cover on passenger side i removed both bolts and the cover just moves side to side
Thank you. I’ve got to look at my friends one next week that’s got a mouldy roof liner where it’s been leaving so long. When you drive it, you can hear the water splashing about in the roof 😮
Do you recommend replacing timing covers or just reseal the old cover?
@@ivanpulido2368 if you’re careful pulling them then there is no need to replace them
@ I appreciate that, and also are the oem timing covers plastic or are they metal
You helped me a lot. Thanks m8
2011 Audi Q5, prestige. OK, I found that the speaker is very difficult to access and originally thought that it couldn't be replaced. The key word in this procedure regarding removal of the buzzer is 'pry'. So instead of unscrewing the two fasteners that held the defective buzzer, I used a flat blade screw driver to 'pry' the buzzer off. The plastic screw inserts and Torx screws came out intact allowing the cable connector to be removed and installed on the replacement buzzer. Problem fixed, the backup camera works. Allow about 60 to 90 mins for this procedure.
Can someone with experience on this issue please respond. I have a VW Tiguan 2012. The 2 rear drain tubes were disconnected at the bottom at the spider trap without my knowing. They overflowed and water was creeping into the boot. I've fixed the drain tubes but here is the question. Where exactly has this overflowed water gone?? When I take a turn I can clearly hear from the ear a sloshing sound left and right turns. I have stripped the rear down to the floor. No idea. There appear to be these plugs, 4 of them in a diamond pattern. I pulled one out (it was silliconed shut) and I do think it's wet down there, the left one. The one closest to the bumper it goes straight through to the ground. Anyway, can anyone shed line on where this trapped water is and how to get out. Nobody seems to know!!
@speedlinegarage Do you have a video on how to properly align the exhaust and intake balance shaft that you removed? Im having issues with my harmonic balancer it has a wobble. Im afraid that some how i spun the intake balance shaft when i installed my water pump and maybe is why i have a wobbly harmonic balancer pulley
Did anyone else eventually get a P0299 low turbo under boost when doing this? Engine misfire codes went away immediately but got a P0299 after a few drive cycles
Yes, I do
P0299 is usually caused by a bad DV. I had the same thing happen.
Can you get new bearings for the balancer shafts.
You fooled me - there is a third bolt at the heatshield that is sooo unable to reach. And this bolt is so useless, they just put it in there so you have to pull the engine i guess.
@@svengoj you must have S4 ?
@speedlinegarage Normal a6 c7 from 2011 but its the same engine. I mean, two bolts where enough for that shield. no reason for the third bolt at a place where you can’t reach it. Engine pull for one bolt. Edit: I was able to remove the screw (and will never put it back) by removing the wheel arch liner and accessing it from the side with an extension including a joint after I had previously viewed the screw with an endoscope. Now the sheet metal is loosened, but you cannot remove it. But you can now move it freely and you can now get to the last screws.
Is there anyway ambient air temperature could affect these? I have a 2010 gti that was leaking at the water pump, replaced the pump and all seemed fine all summer until the outside temperature dropped below -5c (23f) at what time the engine would over heat, and the heater would blow cold air. I replaced the thermostat (cause that makes sense) but had the exact same issue with the new thermostat. Then once spring hit the car worked perfect from April until now (October) but I’m assuming next month I will run into the same issue. I REALLY can’t imagine that air temperature could affect this, but it also seems unlikely that 2 new, and different companies thermostats would both be defective.
@@ryansteele6422 what coolant are you using? Only thing I can assume is that your mixture was poor and somehow it slushed and did not have good flow.
@@ryansteele6422 we just replaced clients thermostat on 2010 VW CC because one we installed little over a year ago started sticking so we ended up going with OEM from Audi. Supposed to open up at 95*C and his was not reaching that temp at full temp
Easy Off's active ingredient (if you look up the SDS) is sodium hydroxide - a highly corrosive base! If you have anything that's zinc plates it will totally ruin it!!! Zinc is amphoteric and reacts with both acids and bases - so if you put it on anything zinc plates it forms sodium zincate after reacting with sodium hydroxide :(( Not the right stuff to be using on automotive parts! It will likely also ruin any clearcoat. Not the right stuff to be using IMO.
Hey, I’ve got a 2015 q5, my backup camera shows black, my parking sensors still chime and the graphic shows. This is the fault code I’m getting (02283 - Video connection to end unit: Open circuit)any suggestions? It’s a Japanese model so it has a camera in the passenger mirror too which also shows black so I’m guessing they both work on the same cables.
What do you use to seal it? Also, do you remember the torque specs for the bolts? I can't seem to find it anywhere
Do you have a simple method for changing the oil pan for this engine? It's dripping oil in my case but I don't want to take off the rack and pinion off.
Please post part number Mate 🙏😎🙏🦛 thanks for great video
Still wont open with the key for me, what can i do now?

my key won’t turn to unlock the door even and the locksmith is too expensive for me rn
@@CohwynLaRue Hey, Yes I did. Had someone open the door they had like a little balloon at the side of the window which they pumped with air and opened the car from within, otherwise im afraid theres no other option.

What led uto the buzzer, did u get a code or anything ( my 2017 Q5, no codes, nothing)

Great video! I just did mines and ended up with a white/ dull residue that isn’t going away… How can I neutralize the acid (maybe it is the cause), any idea what next step would be, thanks.
Usually bicarbonate neutralizes acidic stuff..then rinse with water.
@ I actually tried some Spray Nine and it took care of it right away. Happy with the results, thanks for sharing ;)
For the record, the brace extends under the kick panel by your right knee. If you don’t put it back then the 8mm bolt by your right knee will not screw into anything. Ask me how I know lol😂

For some reason, no matter how hard I push, that cover refuses to come off. I tried doing it at different angles, twisting it, that thing just will not come off. Am I going to have to pry it off with a screwdriver?
have you gotten it to work? i’m in the same dilemma
@@mrmann5053 I did! I hope I can articulate the technique I used well enough - What I did was I push the key into that little slot, and while pushing upwards I tilt the tip of the key downwards, so like a see-saw where the end your holding is up, and that did get that piece off without too much force. I hope that made sense, and good luck!
@@humanconvertile it did thx, but i gave up i grabbed a flat head n shoved it in there n just yanked it 😭
@@mrmann5053 Dang. Did it damage the cover or the car in any way?
@@humanconvertile nah it was really simple actually, i thought the key was supposed to insert all the way, i didn’t know it was use to pry it open,, besides i had plastic key so it woulda broken off easily

HI, i have a3 8p 2.0 tfsi 2010 i let car run until operating temperature and on channel 93 phase position bank 1 intake says -4,38 degrees. So what do you think its time for timing chain replacment ?
@@igortomasevic5550 i usually tell clients if its above 5.5 then its time. At 4.3 you still have a year approximately if you keep up on oil changes and keep eye out on stretch. A lot of factors can play in chain stretch so keep your eye on it
